Hi, Nice explanation but u forgot to leave down stream ECV open while u were doing stabilisation and tightening test. For every other part, u are good.
In the 70s/80s in Scotland medium pressure services (75mb to 2 Bar) were used by Scottish Gas with a Slam-Shut Governor being fitted prior to the ECV. These were fitted as part of the service pipe coming from the main and were fitted by the then Distribution department (Main/service layers) and now known as National Grid. If the pressure on the outlet side of the governor exceeded a certain level first an internal vent would vent off the gas through a small vent hose and if the pressure continued to rise a secondary governor diaphragm would lift and allow the SLAM-SHUT plunger to spring forward and cut off the gas supply all together. These could only be used with an outside meter box or outside meter bar. With this system you only had your regular 20/25mb or so at the ECV. I`m wondering if this is what Ian MacDonald is talking about in the comments below as I`m sure they were fitted in the Cumbernauld area??
Hi Allen, I'm currently getting ready to do my gas and appreciate all of these videos you have shared. Can I ask you a question? Is it possible for a gas engineer to be fully qualified and not know how to do a tightness test? I.e, turning off the main inlet valve, doing a tightness test on the whole house, without isolating the gas meter, and then condemning the main isolator? I had an Albanian guy who was gas safe and made serious bad mistakes during his time at that company. I think he fudged his portfolio, but how would it be possible? Are you able to scam your way through your gas? This is not something I would do. I did my gas in Holland and installed plenty of gas pipes, boilers and a massive gas meter in a school. I'm doing it properly because I am responsible and accountable as an English tradesman, However, something isn't quite right here.
There's a lot in cumbernauld with older upso valves that don't have the release lever on it, would be handy if there was a video that explains the different / older medium pressure meter set ups
Recently my neighbour had an appointment to fit smart meters,we are median pressure. The installer could not fit the gas meter.I did a bit of digging and it turned out there are only certain smart meter installers can fit new smart meters to median pressure rigs.If you turned the older ones on too fast they slammed shut and had to be reset by removing the cover nut and pulling the valve open again .
I don't think you remove the anaconda on a mp rig, if you suspect letby never remove the anaconda....if it's letting by then it's at elevated pressure...it might be blowing
Best explanation I've seen on medium pressure. Great thanks!
Wow, thanks!
Great explanation! Im doin my gas course just now so your videos are a great help!
Great recap! First one in 4.5 years so yes not at the front of my mind! Cheers!
Brilliant I’m yet to come across a medium pressure meter in wales but was nice to refresh the memory.

in Ireland it's 2 minutes for existing pipework Natural gas with your u gauge levelled at 0 .
5 minutes for new installs on both .
Great video cleared MP up for me. Thanks
Nice explanation but u forgot turn down stream ECV.
Great recap 🤩 so that’s a single stage MP set up 👍🏻

Working on the GDN in the North East we have loads of this

Hi Ian, I have put a comment re the Medium Pressure Services on the main post. Cheers eddie
@eddiestafford3313 I have a picture of one, but it doesn't let me attach the photo on UA-cam comments
Great vid thanks guys
Thank you so much

It's not the meter, it's the regulator. A medium pressure regulator will need to be commissioned that's why
What about of testing a Miv valve?
Great to hear it explained like that! Better than any amount of swottin' 😀
In the states we put 10 psi for 10 minutes and then it holds it’s good.
Thank You
Why is it 18 to 19 millbar and not 20 to 21 is it because of the valve

What’s the thread on the ECVs for MP?
Did you operate the ecv to reach 7 to 10 mb or was there enough pressure in the regular to reach it
Thank You
Your gas valve wrong way round! Close down
Fail ! Gas valve should always close down ! Known fact
