every time i hear Clarence White sing, I start to grieve all over again. This is a classic tale of a man who's candle was way to short, but how bright it burned!!! We love you Clarence.

Now that Tony has passed...It amplifies my grief for my guitar hero who influenced me so much with my playing. Tony gave me great pleasure as he continued the thread that Clarence so wonderfully started. ❤️🖖🏻

What a treasure. The guitar crossfire between Clarence & Ry Cooder is fantastic. Clarence was brilliant... he could make a Telecaster guitar sound just like a pedal steel guitar.

I love Mickey Newbury's writing. Clarence is one of my guitar heroes. Right next to Don Rich! Both lives cut way too short. They're making some Purdy music up in heaven now!

This is totally delightful. Both Ry Cooder and Tony Rice were said to have been students of Clarence's.
They have both done him proud.

Brilliant! If you want another good example of Clarence and Ry playing together, try listening to the wonderful backing they provide for Arlo Guthrie on Dylan's "Gates of Eden" from "Last of the Brooklyn Cowboys"

  • @chbartle

Completely awesome song and performance. Clarence was turning into a better and better singer. Ry's contribution is strong and un-fancy, and it's so cool that Clarence plays such a "right", complementary part.

Every time it rains Lord I run to my window
All I do is just wring my hands and moan
And listen to that thunder, Lord
Can't you hear that lonesome wind moan?
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
You've been gone so long now
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
A wolf is scratching at my door, Lord, Lord
And I can hear that lonesome wind moan
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
Somebody said they thought they saw you roaring down in Reno
With a big ol' man from San Anton
They tell me I'm a fool, fine for you but what do they know?
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
You've been gone so long now
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
A wolf is scratching at my door, Lord, Lord
And I can hear that lonesome wind moan
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
Ain't nothin' I wanna do Lord, so I guess I could get stoned
And let the past paint pictures in my head
And kill a fifth of a thunderbird Lord and try to write a sad, sad song
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
You've been gone so long now
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
A wolf is scratching at my door, Lord, Lord
And I can hear that lonesome wind moan
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
Tell me baby now why you've been gone so long?
