    Video idea:
Use two ballistic dummies and see what rounds would stop if they were a foot or more apart. The purpose is to mimic if you were standing behind someone and they happened to be shot. If you were at the wrong place at the wrong time for someone being shot in front of you. If it does pass through, what calibers would be fatal?

My hypothesis is that at higher calibers like 7.62x39, .308 will hit the next person behind but 5.56 and lower maybe? Probably not because of yawing.

@@1stCallipostle muscle is very dense, so it would have a similair effect (probably a fair bit better for the equal amount of volume) but it's way harder to pack on a significant amount of muscle compared to packing on fat. And the muscles over the abdomen just can't get super big. Someone with Schwarzenneger esque pecs (seriously go look at him when he was at his peak as a bodybuilder, he dropped a lot of muscle mass when he became an actor. Those pecs where like watermelons sitting on his ribcage) might have a chest shot stop, depending on the caliber but a gut shot even then would be unlikely.
There's a story I've seen going around a few times before- I could never find a source so it probably isn't true, but you may find it interesting regardless- about Sergio oliva (another bodybuilder, similair to arnold in size) getting shot in the chest with either a 38 special or 357 magnum depending on who's telling the story and it being stopped by his pec.
Personally, My thoughts are if it happened at all it was probably a dud shot where only the primer went off, or maybe a light 38 load. No way I would believe a full power magnum would be stopped by just his pec, impressive as it may be.

They were all hollow points except for the 577. I think you might have had some different results if you had some FMJ or hardcast etc. However if you were trying to replicate the average gun owner with people stoppers, I guess hollowpoints would be most likely carried. The bullets that mushroomed good are the ones that didn't quite cut it for penetration, that's not a bad thing as the wound would be much larger with their fat spilling out lol. Nice vid man.

I would love to see you shoot headstones. In the movies they often have shootouts in graveyards (I think the old movie Next of Kin had a scene like that but its been probably been close to 30 years since I have seen that so I am not sure). It would make an interesting video concept. Graveyard Shootout!

I never heard about extra body fat protecting the victim from a gun shot. I read about a few cases where extra body fat allegedly saved the victim from fatal knife wounds. It makes sense, a thrust/stab from a knife can 'only' go as deep as the length of the blade

I feel like here it helped more that all of the fat was concentrated on the front, as this much fat i think even 500/600 pound person doesn't have.
Also I am not sure but i think that dead fat is more resistant and it was layerd.
Like 200 pund person would have like 10% of this protection if not less.

  • @AZ-Patriot

I haven't even watched the video yet, but I am here to say yes. Body fat absolutely can save your life. I got retired from my career of driving truck in 2004 when I shut down I-75 in Dayton, Ohio for half a day. I turned my head for a split second and that was the end. Ended up getting crushed in the mangled mess of what used to be the cab of my truck.
My steering wheel was bent around my midsection and my seat was bent in the same plane behind me. Had I been a skinny guy, that energy would, very likely, have destroyed organs and fractured my spine. But, my body fat absolutely saved my innards and spine. ER docs and EMTs said as much.
Only time in my life I was thankful to be fat.

Next time you are shooting a "loose" target like this one, try buying a roll of contractor grade trash bags. Then after every shot, roll it off the table into a new bag to contain it. By doing this, you're not really adding material to stop the projects, and you're giving a clean surface every time to hit, so you don't confuse previous hits. Additionally, if you brought a vacuum with you, you could re-vacuum it to re-secure it into a good shape, and just seal the bags with duct tape at the top. Hope this helps! 👍
