Since I've seen a lot of comments about it, as the runner I'd like to say something in regards to the audience (the part you might not know). In the video it might seem like a lot are uninterested or not paying attention. This is normal. The room you see is the only event-hall (since UKSG is a relatively small event) and as such it functions as both the stream room and the place were people chill. Most of the people joining these events (myself included) mostly attend for the people, y'know, meeting with friends and making new ones. Because of this the focus isn't as much on the runs. After all, watching runs can be done from home and you only get a couple hours together like that. Due to the limited space you see this more clearly at this event then with some others. As a runner I'm aware of this and as such it doesn't bother me. It might look weird, but I've seen this at almost all on-site events and most runners are aware of it. Having had the chance to run at UKSG has helped me make several new friends I wouldn't otherwise have and I can say that a lot of the people there were fantastic.
No worries man. This was a seriously entertaining run and even though the monster house at the end essentially killed it, I think it ended up being even better because we got to see some of the quick save, RNG manip strats.
"This is NOT the team we'll be using since it's a TERRIBLE team to use" Haha, hahahaha, yeah. I know all about that. It's the exact team I used in my first playthrough.
it's not a horrible team overall since pikachu gets quick attack, agility and discharge which are incredible moves (at least I think it does, it might not in Rescue Team Blue), and charmander has access to smokescreen, flamethrower and heat wave. But there are some glaring weaknesses of the team during some dungeons when it's player+partner only for a while since they both are weak to ground and rock types could be an issue, but the team does have some potential. From a speedrun perspective through, they probably are pretty bad since they don't have stuff like attract, double slap, etc.
Necro-ing this to shoot off about how good Charmander's Metal Claw/Scratch link combo is for dealing with those pesky rock types and if you get the proc on the Metal Claw scratch hits even harder :D Team eXeeBé ♂️'s in Blue lead by Charizard named Moe-Ma and a Pikachu named BeenXé :)
Great run, great runner. He's got great knowledge on the game (I like how he can name the Pokemon by the sprites alone before he even runs into them) and great commentary. I found myself a new favorite streamer to follow.
When I was young I didn't really understand the game very well, owing to the fact I could barely read English as it was. But Linked Moves were so unbelievably OP even young me figured out that the devs done goofed
I love these kinds of speedruns where you have to react to the RNG. Obviously it makes wr much harder, but I find it very entertaining and I believe it's why minecraft has become such a popular speed game. Of course, that's coming from a speedcuber, where every single "run" is 100% RNG.
Actually kinda interesting. Charmander+Pikachu tends to be a really strong pairing in PMD (Smokescreen, Flamethrower, Agility, and from Explorers onwards, Discharge), good at almost all parts of the game. It's just not fast from a speedrunning perspective.
I discovered this game back when I used to emulate a lot of Nintendo DS games. I can't remember who was my partner but I got a Bulbasaur as my main, who is my favorite gen 1 starter Pokemon. I never finished the game though.
Not sure if the woman in the red/black sweater wanted to cry at the end of the run there - but if she did, I felt that in my soul. The ending of RRT/BRT makes me cry my eyes out every single time. I don't know why, but I have an emotional attachment to all the characters in the game. Plus the music in addition...
God damn, this was a great speedrun and drew me in. I love this game even though I had Red Rescue Team instead. But now I remember all the monster houses, traps, and other good stuff with the post-game. .... I still need to get Kygore though. Also, I don't blame the speedrunner for the quicksave stuff, that monster house was a nightmare from hell. I would have shit my pants even as a kid if that happened to me. So good job on overcoming the aftermath. But now I need to watch some more of the runner's Pokemon runs, as I'm horribly interested now.
Also, the name of Squirtle is the French name for the water Pokemon starter of gen 2, which eludes me in English. His evolution is Feraligator, that much I know.
If it's worth anything, I run Explorers of Time (any%, beat darkrai and recruit 'em all) and am soon going to be picking up Gates to Infinity and Super Mystery Dungeon (as well as PMD DX) in the next couple of months. I stream them on twitch, mixed in with just about every other Pokémon game out there.
1:40:20 Just like the Northeners (or Norse, if you don't have much time), they explore! they go north, from the North, to the northern North! And discover land!
XxILikePie03 I can’t believe he didn’t mention the possibility of getting infinite golden seeds if he preset the missions with a generator when mentioning wm :/
Okay Crrool, you are a fine speedrunner, a very good one even! But you are telling me that you didn't see the utility of using multiple moves in a row during a turn when you played the game casually? What the hell, man! Loving the race so far.
I was 12 when I first played it, and I was pretty bad at strategies. I used to try and avoid using any PP so that Id have it for when I needed it. Safe to say that wasnt a great strat 🙃
So the game came out in a time when the general gamer mentality was "Better safe up any type of limited thing for the worst case scenario". I for example up to a point used moves themselves already sparingly and mostly attacked with the normal base attack. Linking moves together and thus using up several moves in a singular use, when I might not even need several attacks seemed like a bad play.
Angelofexecution the strats for the switch version are wildly different since the game plays very different mechanically. Different starters, different items we look for, different combat strats on bosses. The 2 games are hard to compare on a speedrun level
@@Crrool I'm actually surprised to hear. Granted I only saw the one hour demo so far but it did look quite similar to the Nintendo DS version. I'll have to have a better gander at it then.
I just thought I'd ask but, why not just start the run after putting in the partner's name? Wouldn't that get rid of that terrible quiz? Also Pika/Mander man myself, what's your alls teams in PMD?
The first save is after first dungeon so significantly after first input, if you were to start at name input then you would only be allowing emulated runs where you could use save states and disallowing every run on actual hardware.
Omg the people in the background are not even just not watching, they are also getting rudely loud, disturbing the run. So annoying. But I like the run very much anyways, thank you!
It would in actual speedrun attempts, this is a marathon so it is important to keep track of the run length including resets (if the run was valid and a world record or PB was possible they would have retimed after the stream before submitting to the leaderboard)
as a runner its not something you tend to pay attention to. As an attendee the main reason for joining is the social aspect, not the runs themselves. Most runners know that and as a result dont pay much attention to what happens behind them
in this game multi hit attacks hit just a little less damage wise then most other attacks but can hit up to 5 times, while a bit inaccurate the fact it can do around 5x that of a normal attack makes them super good
Fury Attack and Double Slap, along with moves like it deal 5 hits at about 80% power. They deal astronomical amounts of damage, combined with Linked skills, as you see you can one shot a lot of enemies.
WM stands for Wondermail (the ability to "code" in missions with set requirements and rewards). QS stands for QuickSave which would allow us to manipulate floors (basically what I do in the 2nd Sky Tower round in order to be able to finish the run)
As someone who only ever played Explorers, I'm shocked at how everything in Rescue Team has a deam/child logic about it. Like, who writes that newspaper? Why is the story so fast-paced as to feel abbreviated? Why do rescue teams even exist? What the heck is up with Gengar at the end there? It's like the writers were intentionally going for as little worldbuilding as possible.
Blake Underwood It was no quick saves, but due to the unfortunate death in sky tower at the end I did a quick save manipulation to ensure the run could finish. This run would be invalid as a result of this
Sorry you failed the run on the first minute, /crool. How about you switch to Pokemon Rescue Team DX? In that game the personality quiz is moot, you can choose your main character to a Skitty even if you got a Pikachu. ;)
