Great list Mazzy! Kim Deal album is truly fantastic. When the horns section kicks in on the title track, I was surprised and happy at the same time. Also, one of the last projects that Steve Albini worked on.
Great list. I also quite like The Smile Cutouts after not being captured by the first two. Also love the Wings of Desire mention regarding Nick Cave. It's one of my favourite movies on so many levels. Shout out to the band Crime and the City Solution also in that movie. Very underrated!
Saw St Vincent with her incredible band last Tuesday 26th Nov at a small beautifully refurbished theatre in Ballarat, central Victoria, Australia. For what ever reason it wasn't a sell out and so we were all encouraged to leave our ticketed seats and move to the front. Like a miniature Palais Theatre Melbourne, Her Majesty’s Theatre in Ballarat was dubbed “a Shetland pony” by Annie Clark as it is small and perfectly formed. Brilliant concert. Great support from Bec Sandridge. Saw my favourite drummer-Mark Guiliana- who is in her superb band. Agree about the Bondesque Violent Times. To see a performance by such top of their game musicians in such a perfect venue was pure luck. Easily the best rock musical performance I've seen. Astonishingly good. Concur with Beyonce-Cave-The Smile and Deal.
With you on The Lemon Twigs and The Smile releases .. Thanks for putting this together, always a highlight at year end. Already looking forward to casting an eye over the reissue list when it drops. Given the volume of boxsets and archival goodies this past 12 months, it should be a good one. Music Books .. Now there's another list worthy of consideration. Keep up the good work Mazzy. 👍🏼
My Top 5: 1. The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Ecstasy 2. Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubelee 3. The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World 4. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Wild God 5. Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
My top 5 are: 1. People Who aren’t there anymore - Future Islands 2. Only God Was Above Us - Vampire Weekend 3. Carrot on Strings - Man Man 4. Where we’ve been where we go from here - Friko 5. I love you so f-ing much - Glass Animals
Saw Adrienne Lenker at Big Ears Fedtval in Knoxville,TN last year. One of my daughter's who lives in Los Angeles insisted we check her out. Or to be more precise "Dad, if I had known she was playing here that would have been all I needed to justify the trip ". It was an amazing performance and she totally deserves all the recognition coming her way.
hey mazzy..cool list..and i dont own a single one of them... (it's been that kind of year...) but always great to hear about them..and i love that dark, moody sound as well.. hope you're staying well..keep warm my friend..peace..rocky

Interesting. I'm not really sure how my top-10 or whatever top would look like, but Kim Deal, Black Keys and Beth Gibbons would be close to it. So far, the only one that is set in stone is Billy Strings Highway Prayers (would be Live, Vol. 1, if I would include live albums). I only listened to the Kim Deal album cause there wasn't something else that night, didn't know about it, expected nothing, listened to it twice. Overall, a really solid year, I'm still discovering 2024 albums that I haven't heard yet, by artists that I didn't even know of. There were also a bunch of really solid debut records, the Grace Bowers album is a really a fun listen.
Dear Mazzy. love your album reviews. i wonder if you were aware of the passing of Peter Sinfield of Crimso? one of my hockeyteamates/bandmate told me that he died at age 80 on either October 14th or 15th. i have yet to see any coverage of his passing, so i'm not sure if this was true. i believe that if anyone knew about it, you would be the person in the know. Cheers from SpoCanada, inthe inland north waist, in the soon to be; U$$@
Unsurprisingly, none of my 2024 faves are on your list. I'm waiting till the end of December to do my 2024 choices on The Electrical Radio Program (is that a plug for my radio show?). Right now, it's looking like Public Service Broadcasting's *The Last Flight* & English Teacher's *This Could Be Texas* will top the list. (All hail progressive music!) In the pop-rock area, The Beth's *Expert in a Dying Field* is hard to beat.
Here goes.........Wilco- Cousin, Eels-Time!, Grandaddy-Blu Wav, Iron And Wine-Light Verse, Pixies-Night The Zombies Came, Richard Thompson-Ship To Shore, Teenage Fanclub-Nothing Lasts Forever, Sufjan Stevens -Javelin, Tindersticks- Soft Tissue, Nick Lowe-Indoor Safari, Lemon Twigs- A Dream Is All We Know, Mercury Rev- Born Horses, Robyn Hitchcock- Vacations In The Past, Linda Thompson- Proxy Music.....The Decemberists -As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again.......Phew!!!

Oh man...Beyonce's dime a dozen pop😅. Is the new Judas Priest album that unwiothy of appra8sal for musical value? Halford has been singing his ass off with melodies over 5 decades,....your generation.
Great list Mazzy! Kim Deal album is truly fantastic. When the horns section kicks in on the title track, I was surprised and happy at the same time. Also, one of the last projects that Steve Albini worked on.

Check out the Spanish version of St Vincent's album
David Rawlings and Gillian Welch (Woodland). Can Live in Paris, The Dirty Three.
I really like the new Amyl and the sniffers album, ‘cartoon darkness’. Haven’t even listened to the new Nick cave or the cure yet
father john misty mahashmashana è bellissimo😍
You’re so dark and mysterious 🤠
I’ve heard this before. 🤠😵💫
Can't vote for a "cover" album. ✌️
Just guessing you might pick David Gilmore for his “Love and Strange”!
Just ordered my 3rd vinyl copy of ‘Luck and Strange’ as both previous ‘sea copies purchased were returned as they were badly warped. Fingers crossed 🤞
Black keys’ Ohio player is perhaps their worst album they’ve put out.
Nope 🤣
Can you say WANKERS.
I didnt watch your video but if you put Beyonce on your list your really kissing up this time..
My guess is you haven’t listen to it through several times. I include what I like. Kissing up to who? Crazy comment.
