The Seekers have no right to make such a brilliant cover of this massive Bee Gees classic, but that's exactly what they do ..... this is absolutely superb, what a stunning voice she has .

The Bee Gees initially wanted The Seekers to record this song before they recorded it. The Seekers recorded this as a tribute to Robin after his death. Yes they have a right.

Just an amazing voice, RIP Judith. Maurice Gibb wrote this with The Seekers in mind, but couldn't get it to them before the Bee Gees recorded it, so after Maurice passed The Seekers recorded it in tribute.

I met a few Aussie soldiers in Vietnam in 1969 when I was with the U.S. Army, and they were really cool guys. Take care mate! BTW, did you people in Australia watch 'Crocodile Hunter', with Aussie, Steve Irwin? I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Y'know, the first time I had ANY inkling of Steve Irwin was watching an episode of South Park. It was a piss-take and although it was obvious to me that they were taking the piss out of an Aussie, I genuinely had no idea who it was.
It turns out that Steve Irwin found fame in the USA well before he gained any real profile here in Oz. When I eventually learned exactly who he was, I thought Irwin was an absolute dickhead.@@felixmadison5736

I have listened to the sweet voice of Judith, and the great harmony of The Boys, for more than 45 years and I have never tired of their magical music. I find myself saying a brief prayer that they remain with us, and continue singing together, for another thousand years. Thanks to Judith Durham for making the memories of my life so sweet.

"(The Lights Went Out In) Massachusetts" is a song by the Bee Gees, written by Barry, Robin & Maurice Gibb and released in 1967. Robin Gibb sang lead vocals on this song and it would become one of his staple songs to perform during both Bee Gees concerts and his solo appearances.

Not true. Massachusetts was written, recorded and released in 1967. The Seekers broke up in 68. Research the history behind this song on Wikipedia.
Read Judith Durham's book as well.
The Beatles wrote a song for Helen Shapiro, but the song was turned down on her behalf by her manager without ever informing her about it.
According to Judith Durham, this was not how it happened in their case.
The Bee Gees thought Tom Springfield had some sort of lock on writing songs for The Seekers, but they were mistaken. Paul Simon wrote a song for them and met them in person in England to tell them about it and to give it to them. Someday One Day is the name of the song and it is one of my absolute favorites performed by them.
Check it out on UA-cam. Watch the version where they are at the Sydney Opera House while it is still under construction.

This song was written in 1967 when the Bee Gees first came to the U.S. AND especially for the Seekers to perform and record, but the members of the band never knew about the offering until many years later. What a shame. This mega hit would have put the Seekers on the map in America and may have prevented the group from breaking up. Their four-year EMI contract was soon to end. They now had maximum leverage for a far more fair and far more lucrative contract.

This song was written specifically for them to record in 1967, but the members of the group never found out. Their manager and/or an incompetent staff member turned down the offer. Good grief!

They are still and shall be a Great Band, even though they only did a few years as the Seekers, they will forever have a graceful following for Judith and the Seekers! Whenever Im down, I come back to You Tube and watch and listen to these great tunes; Massachusettes being one of them, just is amazing!
