6 Guidelines of Life
1. When you are alone, mind your thoughts
2. When you are with friends, mind your tongue
3. When you are angry, mind your temper
4. When you are with a group, mind your behavior
5. When you are in trouble, mind your emotions
6. When God starts blessing you, mind your ego

My personal advice, don't waste time trying to find what you want to do with your life, instead find and do what it is you want to right now, whether it be taking a certain job, starting a business, or working on a passion project. Put all your energy and attention towards what you want to do right now and you won't have to worry about the longterm. As long as you keep doing this, that will make up your lifetime
Thanks for the genuine advice

Notes for myself:
Passions are formed, not found
▪find passions by actually doing things!
▪clarity comes from doing
Success fuels passion more than passion fuels success
▪if you define passion as a feeling then you risk failure if/when that feeling changes
▪think about what you would suffer for.
Suffer for something you actually care about

Yes, definitely well said. Passion comes from doing, not thinking.

Classic quote, I love this❤️ the funny thing is that sometimes we confuse “liking what we’re doing” with “wasting time,” or at least I do. I guess it comes down to how some of us were raised.
I used to also work in a job that I'm not so happy about. I ended up quitting that job to pursue my hobby at that time which was blogging. Eventually I switched to vlogging as I find it more appealing and enjoyed it a lot. That's when I thought I finally "found" my passion. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we also form our passion by doing different things which spark our interests. And then devoting our time to that which we think we can actually do whether we are in the mood for it or not. 😊
Can you make a living out of your hobby? (I hope so of course 💕)
@@juliaz9843 of course! My hobby (doing UA-cam fitness videos) is already my main source of income right now. 😊 I think it has become possible because of the demands for it. What I find helps is to dedicate your time to your interest which you think others would spend money or time for. It would eventually become your passion.
That’s awesome, I hope the very best!
Happy for you but you need to realize vlogging is a lot more open to young, pretty women than other people.
@@penultimateh766 there are a lot of other profitable hobbies out there like baking, cooking, sewing, crafting, dance, etc. 💓
I think it’s okay to make a living off of something other than your passion. Oftentimes, putting that pressure on your passion can make the excitement and joy of it all to fall away.
Many times we are suffering for a greater cause, family, the pride of work or just taking good care of ourselves financially. Passion can't always be in the work life. Maybe on the side at times.
I 100% agree. Especially if you’re still working for a cause you believe in
I think at some point it all comes together ✨✨
Your purpose is not what you love doing.
*Your purpose is what you can't live without doing.*

*"You are one desicion away from a totally diffrent life."*
During my nihilistic days in college, I always asked myself what the meaning of life was? Not too long ago I got an answer(don't remember the source), is simply to give life meaning. Do what fulfills you, and practice gratitude often. Those were game changers for me.
Searching for a single grand passion can often be linked to perfectionism - we want to get everything just right and be 100% certain something will be *perfect* for us. But life is messy and malleable, and so are the things we love. It's best to simply enjoy the exploration.
I feel the romanticizing part too much. When I had to decide what to study after school I was only focusing on finding the perfect course. In the end I learned that no matter what I will choose there will be regrets and a feeling of missing out as well as a lot of beautiful things to discover. Understanding that helped me a lot with making all kinds of decisions.
ps.: I just get excited everytime I see a new video of yours. Thanks so much for the inspirational content every time :)
@@eu9ne Hii, when I was in your position I decided to just take a break after school. I started working in many different mini jobs and I went abroad for a year. I dont think this is really necessary but for me even just meeting so many new people outside my usual bubble and also distancing myself a bit from those who I noticed held me back in some ways was super helpful. I really got to know myself better and learned what was actually important in life for me.
I met some super inspiring people that showed me different ways of making decisions and going about life. Still in the end the most important thing was actually figuring out what gives me the most joy and fulfils me. Regularly writing down what was going on in my head and properly listening to my thoughts and feelings helped me the most I would say. I know this is all kinda vague but I hope its somewhat helpful :)
I tried to write down what I want to do, and why I'm here every week.
And I realized it always change.
That makes me wonder how many selves actually inside of me.
❤
Your point on romanticising passion was such a good one. For me, "passions" are a labour of love: a love, but no doubt laborious. Maintaining them isn't always easy, but they're absolutely necessary to making you feel alive and enthralled in the world.

Bruhh didn't she just say passion is not "found"
As someone who grew up with a lot of interests, choosing what you want to do, I think, is just as difficult. But you're right, perhaps it really just comes from doing things that eventually help form a path that you could thrive in. I've been doing mental analysis and frameworks of which path to take based on quantified experiences, which at this point is stressing me out. Now I'm realizing the only way to find out is not through micro-analyzing, but through experiencing. "Clarity comes from doing" !!!
My observation is that oftentimes we feel somewhat entitled to solutions presenting themselves out of nowhere... Forgetting that it takes time and effort to find what we truly enjoy. It's a lifelong journey! We're constantly evolving. No surprise that we're persistently searching for something, let it be passion or purpose. Finding anything worth having in life comes from trial and error though, and that requires action, not just guesswork.
This is such a great reflection.
Yes, so true!
This is so profound
I think maybe it’s easier for people who are lucky enough to grow up with parents or other role models around them who encourage, compliment, validate and therefore reinforce what you are good at, to find their ‘passion’. And even ‘picks’ a passion for you as you tend to do what you see around you. As Lana says, success fuels passion and by actually doing something who is seen by others we form an identity around that. For people who lack that validation it’s harder, and they must do the work to validate themselves (both as a person and what they do/accomplish) and find a community who can fuel that. A lot comes down to feeling seen, worthy and validated by others as well as yourself. Remember that you are worthy to feel good. 💞
One purpose n passion we’ve been born with but always forget is “to live”

I really love the quote you said about suffering for what you care about versus suffering for what you don't care about. That really puts a lot of things into perspective for me! This includes work, hobbies, but also relationships as well as self-esteem. I adore your content, Lana! And feel blessed to have you in my feed every week.

I remeber talking with my father and he told one thing that changed my life. " I try to enjoy and love my job independent of what job i take".The people think that they gonna find a dream job and be happly ever after, but the truth is that we have to find happiness in any situation that we can, only accepting our reality and trying to be happy the way life is now until we can "change our lives", thats what i think.

Passion has always been a tricky one. What we tend to think is that there's some hobby, career, activity etc. out there that's the key to living our most fulfilling life, one that'll make us happy and keep us satisfied for the rest of our lives. But there's nothing like that.
No matter what you want in life, or how you choose to do it, you won't always find it fun or thrilling, you'll have your ups and downs and that's part of life.
Yes there are things in life that just won't work out for us, but that doesn't mean you'll come across something and the stars will align and it'll be perfect. Sometimes you start something and realize that while it may have not been something you ever thought of in the past, it ends up becoming something you do for the long-term.
"Passion is ABOUT, but Purpose is TO and FOR (I was put here to accomplish)" The more I watch your videos, the more I fall in love with your content!

Her voice itself is enough for me to define what is life... Doesn't matter what she speaks
what i loved the most about this video is that it made me compare passions (job, hobby) to passion in relationships, and that's when every point actually made sense. we can't depend on passion only to feel fulfilled and happy, how it starts with interest and develops when put effort and time into it, it's not as romantic as it's portrayed nor is it suppposed to be intense and crazy. Great video, you inspire me a lot!
I want to thank you, so so much for this video.
I've lived all of my life desperate to find a 'passion', just because everyone around me already had one and required me to have one as well. I've changed so many paths, changed schools because I was constantly searching for that something. I even ended up crying many times because of that pressure. I am 24 and I am still searching for it, but I decided to just live life, put myself out there and see what will happen, even if it's not easy.
So thank you this really calmed me.
'Passions are formed, not found'. Amen Lana! Passions and hobbies come through experiencing things. There is nothing more powerful than trying things, doing things, practicing good habits and not being afraid of experiencing new habits if needs be, to find what truly motivates you and truly soothes you.
You are your own self healer and you are your greatest coach in life. Juts believe in yourself and do what you want to do, your purpose in life will come from that.
I recently started writing on my blog and you're right. If I don't work on it, it won't become my passion. I have to keep moving and put all my heart and soul into what I'm doing. I am enjoying the process and hopefully, I can be someone as inspiring as you. Thank you Lana for being such an angel!

Really love your thoughtful reflections and self-awareness here... and totally agree that you find your passions by DOING. Taking that first step tends to hold people back for whatever fears or apathy they might have... "what if I make the wrong decision"... but there's never a 'wrong' decision, as it's all a learning experience. You'll discover what you actually DO or DON'T enjoy. We are all such multi-passionate, multi-dimensional beings - and it's great to spend time just exploring into all the depths of it. Thanks, Lana!
Your voice is exceptionally calming.
I totally agree with you that no activity we take up is going to be enjoyable all the time. Lately, I've been debating in my head whether or not I should continue to write because I often feel like I'm "suffering" rather than enjoying myself when I write. However, I feel like, at the end of the day, writing is still worth it because it gives me a sense of contentment after having spilled all my thoughts out. Love the insight, Lana. Keep up the great work!

Love the Jerome Bruner reference! He has a book called Making Stories that's great, and useful for anyone interested in what it means to tell stories
Thank you fort your videos. I want to share a little bit on this subject. Younger, I thought that I had only one passion, it was a big one, and I followed it, it became my job... And I was loosing passion, I wasn't happy. Having this passion as a job was making me sick and unhappy, not because it's not a passion, but because I had to make so many sacrifices that was to much for me to be happy. It wasn't working with who I am and what I need to be happy and healthy. It wasn't the right way to live for me. What I didn't know, is that I have so many other passions, I didn't know because I had never tried before. Sometimes, trying new things is really a good thing. And my first passion, became a passion again, I just need it to not be my only job, to do it less, and appreciate it more when I do it. As I try new things, I am learning about myself more and more. Passions can change, we can have more than one passion, and it's not because something is a passion that we would be happy having it as a job. That's what I learned!
you are so incredibly wise. thank you for this

I used to think the same thing about interests and finding them, but then I realized that passions come naturally and with time. Thank you for another insightful video ♥️
To me the perceived necessity of studying everything in college that is out there that interests me puts a lot of pressure on myself
To be honest... I'm held back by fear and so are many more. We need to try to let that go and live our life as happy as possible!!! There is so much to see! THANK YOU so so much for making this video!
The clarity comming from doing instead of thinking hits home really hard for me. Nowdays almost every time I want to start something new I just bash my head into it without thinking too much, and as time goes by, the clarity of vision of how to actually do it properly starts to come.
Powerful video! I struggle with this really hard right now and although I feel like I know what I like and what I don't like, it's still incredibly hard to turn these feelings into action because it would mean a big and uncertain change. I'm confident that I will find my way eventually but getting there is really not easy.
Also the moment you mentioned Mark Manson made my heart warm. I adore his books!
@LanaBlakely, I love the way you are opening each layer of your internal thoughts. I tend to see passion somehow different from what to do with our lives. Passion is something that brings joy to our hearts, what we want to do with our lives is a kind of a life’s mission. Thank you Lana for the video, always among the best here on UA-cam!
You're a philosopher Lana... a philosopher. 😊
Exactly.
I love that quote from Jerome Bruner. This idea is something that my therapist has taught me and I try to remember it every time I lack motivation - it probably won't come out of nowhere, but rather by me doing something and feeling good about it, nine times out of ten that's what's going to help me. I've also heard a TED talk by Terry Trespacio (sorry if I misspelled her name) that quote you mentioned comes from - one of the most meaningful TED talks for me. Changed my perception of passion, and this quote still pops into my head from time to time. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, you're such a sweet person.

The information in this video is absolutely invaluable. Thank you so much for sharing your thought process and creating this video. I am at a sort of crossroads in my life about what I want to do in the future and this video has given me some much needed food for thought and clarity about my options 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you Lana, i really needed to hear this today ❤
I know this video is about a year old, but as I just watched it today, I would like to mention my personal experiences with this topic. Figuring out what to do with your life is not that easy. I have been struggling with that in the past and I am still struggling today. To me, it is not about that one passion. As a hyperactive person my brain is alway thinking about ten ideas at a time. It is just to much to do at the same time. So I just do what comes to my mind. I go with the flow of my thinking. My close friends understand and know that with me there will never be a plan and you can never really tell what is happening next. I feel like its also passion when you just navigate through your life while listening to your gut. Anyone who kinda feels the same?
Yes, I feel the exact same! Im the happiest when I go with the flow of life and get stressed when I try to plan everything.. I think that not everyone is meant to have a plan.. for example, my father is in his 60s and he's told me he still doesn't know what he wants sometimes or what he's doing! Still, he's a pretty happy man lol

Thanks Lana, from your video I took away the thought, that passion comes by doing, not thinking...Thank you!
This was such an encouraging video that really shines a light on the idea that passion is not something to have or to hold but instead something to create and cultivate. I personally have been one to wait for it to come to me. Now, I’m beginning to think that action brings about movement and movement can bring about alignment and feeling and sometimes that’s all we need - is to choose, instead of waiting to be chosen. Thank you Lana, for your insight and for sharing with us such profound and meaningful words!
