I totally agree. Most of my life I watched people follow their “passion, purpose” in life and I had no clue what mine was. I fell into a pretty bad depression partly because of that lack of knowing what my purpose was. Now I understand that the only so called purpose in life is to live, to experience life, to love, travel, grow and just be. Just be happy.

@Tyler Gibson I think a lot of peoples in their twenties (or even younger) struggle with that same thing. Makes us all feel less lonely to know we are not crazy for feeling that way. That there are other people with the same struggle.

Most of us feel the same way. Society and social media tells us one thing, but what we value in life should be an internal thing, not come from external sources. Personally, I've become a nihilists over the years. There is no purpose, just a sense of enjoyment, fulfilment, and passing on your DNA to the next generation. Finding a life purpose puts such pressure on (mostly) young people. For me, when somebody asks me what I want to do in life and why I not just do any job (without getting any value from it) just to be financially secure, I get really overwhelmed and sad. I know society tells us there has to be some stabilization in life... a job, a partner, a dream, an idea... anything... But for most people (as I'm speaking for myself and people I know really well) sometimes simply living is really hard. We just want to breathe and try to reconnect with ourselves and the world to find stabilization within us (as cheesy as it sounds). So I guess my purpose in life is going to find myself by trying to be more conscious about what is happening around me. And simply...breathe.... Thanks Lana, for this great video. Having studied "science" in neuroscience, psychology, sociology and medical sciences for over46 years, I would say that the thoughts and insights of Lana Blakely are just as useful and valid as any published "scientific" study. Your mind and heart are tuned in to the nature of being human. That is your gift to humanity. Indeed, I would say that, once you realize how insightful you are, it is at that point, when you will "discover" your purpose in life. I have suggested that you study for an advanced degree in the social sciences, or pedagogy: a masters, and if you reach higher, a PhD. Regardless of your pursuit of higher education, I would say that you should take a topic of interest to you, like "finding purpose in life" and write a book sharing your ideas and feelings. This will be beneficial for you and for so many people who will read your book. I think you will put a smile on the face of so many thousands of people who follow your you tube--blog posts. Lana you are terrific. Just keep doing what you are doing, sharing your heart and mind with all of us.

"Instead of living my life thinking that there is this one big thing I'm supposed to discover called 'purpose,' I believe it is the many purposes, smaller ones and bigger ones, that bring fulfillment." This is really clarifying for me. I too value this mindset and your video really helps to solidify just why it's a useful perspective. Try new things. Be vulnerable, creative, and embrace that which brings you joy. But before any of that, be grateful for every waking hour and restful night. Thanks Lana for the insights!

I strongly resonate with your take on Lana's message by commenting, "before any of that, be grateful for every waking hour and restful night." To me, search of purpose is in a way a proof of your dissatisfaction with the given situation. But your comment, "to be grateful," is a way to counter this purposive search. If you are grateful for every waking moment, you are satisfied every moment, so there will be no necessity to search something outside a given moment. This is in a way, an application of gratitude as a way of finding purposes not only somewhere but actually everywhere. Gratitude leads to a fulfillment of each moment of our lives. Thanks for letting me express my reflection based on your comment.

I really found this video relatable Lana. I too spend a lot of time trying to figure out this purpose thing. But after some self reflection I noticed that instead of trying to find happiness in purpose and a reason to get up in the morning, I should do it in reverse instead. Why not be happy to begin with? Why not get up in the morning simply because of the joy of being. I know this sounds idealistic, which is why almost immediately many people will look at the negative things in life. How can I be happy if I have bills to pay? How can I be happy if I am not where I want to be? etc. But the reality is that the inner joy of being is within everyone's reach. How beautiful is it to just see the colours? If you are blind, how beautiful is it to hear? If you are deaf how beautiful is it to feel? And ultimately, how beautiful is it to just be?

I thought finding a job that serves others would give me that sense of fulfillment, but I realised that I was wrong, when last week I received a different job offer that I accepted because it would give me more freedom and the possibility to have more free time for my hobbies. So now I believe my "purpose" is to do the things I love and enjoy life in every moment and every single aspect. Some people feel empty and don't know what's their purpose in life.
Let me tell you this, you need Jesus in your life. Only Him can fulfill that void in your heart.
      YOU ARE LOVED! ♥
Do you know Jesus loves you and wants to have a relationship with you? Yes, YOU!
Not because He needs you, but because He wants you. His very nature is LOVE.
God wants you to know Him and enjoy His magnificence. Take a few minutes now to discover
how you can begin a personal relationship with Him.
God LOVES YOU SO MUCH that He GAVE His ONLY begotten Son
(Jesus Christ) to DIE for your sins.
John 3:16 says: For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
      everlasting life. ; John 14:6 - Jesus
said, "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
      except through Me".
Salvation is God's GIFT to us. Jesus paid it ALL at the
cross. Accepting Jesus Christ as your
LORD and PERSONAL SAVIOR is the greatest gift you can ever receive TODAY.
(Ephesians 2:8-9 says: For by grace you have been saved through faith and that
not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of good works, lest any man
      should boast.
      The simple plan of SALVATION:
ADMIT THAT YOU ARE A SINNER.
      Romans 3:10
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.
      Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
      BE AWARE AND BELIEVE.
Be aware of the penalty of sin and believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose
      again for your salvation.
      Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death..” this pertains not just to physical death but
eternal death of our souls in the lake of fire. But the verse doesn’t end
there. And because God is a loving and just God - a God of kindness and justice
      - it goes on in Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God
is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
      Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners,
      Christ died for us.
We all know this and yet it is not enough for us to just know about this great sacrifice.
We have to ACCEPT Jesus Christ as our Saviour - the Lord and Saviour of our
      lives.
      REPENT AND RECEIVE.
Repent of your sin and receive Jesus Christ in your heart as personal Savior and Lord.
      John 1:12
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
      Romans 10:9
“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has
raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” That means that you must acknowledge
that Jesus is GOD and that God raised Him from the dead, which means that Jesus is
the Man who died and resurrected. Put your faith in Jesus Christ.
      PRAYER:
“Heavenly Father, I admit that I am a SINNER and I need
Jesus Christ as my SAVIOUR. Please FORGIVE me for my sins. I BELIEVE that your
Son Jesus Christ DIED on the CROSS for me and that you raised Him from the
dead. At this very moment, I accept and proclaim JESUS CHRIST as my LORD and
personal SAVIOUR to live in my heart and life from this day forward. Right now,
I turn from my sins and put my faith in your Son. In Jesus' name, I pray,
      Amen.”
If you pray that from your heart, God heard you. If you
accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, CONGRATS! HEAVEN IS REJOICING!
If you have any questions or clarifications please don't
hesitate to message me. I am willing to help :)

To say that the purpose of life is to be happy is very over-simplified and superficial.

Purpose has to be deeper than that 😁

@@judylloyd7901 I think what the Dalai Lams meant was that happiness is in living every moment. It is in waking up and being grateful for that. In cherishing life, we cherish our companions and friends and neighbors and strangers we meet. It is not easy to do this if we focus on what is wrong in life. So cherishing the positive leads to a life of positive purpose like compassion and empathy.
Anyway, that’s my interpretation and gives me peace and purpose 🙂

This is honestly such a soothing idea, especially if you’re in a transitional limbo stage in life like in between jobs, it’s so important to cultivate your own definition of purpose because if you put it into a “thing” and that thing disappears (like a job, relationship, materials), what happens to you then? Maybe I’m not going to be a famous actress or Instagram model. But then I thought, that’s okay. It doesn’t matter if the world knows my name because in the end they’re not going to remember me. They’re going to take their own memories and feelings and I’ll take mine. I have my own purpose, and it’s okay if I’m just going to lead a quiet, peaceful and stable life.

Long story short, that's no longer the situation. My mentality just shifted so tremendously in 2020 and I can 100% say I'm the happiest I've ever been. I made a video talking about why I dropped out and other reflections if you'd like to check it out :)
In my opinion, we don't exist for one sole purpose, life is so much more than a career or an accomplishment. Life is made up of relationships, beauty, growth, and so much more. It's so important to move the focus away from fulfilling your "purpose" and instead just recognize and find fulfilment in each little part of life itself.

@@Celeste21yt What I'm trying to say is that there is no real purpose it's more that people think there has to be a purpose, but there is not. The purpose of living and having something to live for are two different things. You need to focus on what makes you happy and get out of your bed every morning instead of finding a purpose in live. You don't have to seek for career goals if that doesn't make you happy. You don't have to go out and party if thats not your thing. Just do what you love and try not to get influenced by other people because you're scared that you will lower there expactations of you. When you find your true self and except who you are and what you want in life, trust me you have something to live for.

I think this really ties well into the power of “presence,” as well. When we get stuck in the future (like finding our purpose) or stuck in the past (like ruminating on all our missed opportunities), we lose sight of what’s right in front of us. By living each day in the present, with mindfulness and curiosity like an infant discovering the world for the first time, we sort of unlock that missing piece of the puzzle in living a meaningful life. I like how you worded about focusing the mindset of thinking that there’s one “big” thing that I’m supposed to be doing that’s called my purpose to instead having the mindset that I am doing the act of my purpose when I just align to what I value and believe in and doing that everyday. If you’re a Christian, I learned today in an event that being successful (which I personally tie to finding my purpose) was as simple as being in the presence of God. Seeking him daily and his word, that we can be successful. And doing this daily just as you’ve mentioned is me acting out my purpose daily. Thank you so much for your perspective. Well researched and thoughtfully portrayed. ❤ More power to you.

I think it’s really simple: if you’re not feeling fulfilled and happy, it means you don’t have found your purpose.
If you’re feeling fulfilled by something, you already have found it.
the answer is already in ourselves, in our heart. if the heart says it’s happy and all, you don,t need to look any further.
just make sure you,re not lying to yourself, ask the question and look for an honest anwser. don’t pretend you’re happy, or say it’s not that bad. if there is something missing, your heart will tell you.

This is the first video in your channel that I watch. Its amazing to me that you play or played chess. I spent many years wasting away at my career. I made what I consider to be a lot of money and was very successful but I was empty inside. In my mid 30s I decided to reinvent myself. I went back to college, quit my job and got my degree. Since I graduated I've taken on hobbies that I wish I did since I was young but allowed my career to derail them. I've learned Italian and gone from a novice chess player to an expert chess player. I haven't decided to what degree I want to improve my chess skills but that's not as important to me as enjoying the game and learning other skills outside of chess. There is much more I want to do but I think as I've gotten older is more important for me to live in the moment than anything else. I don't want to spend my elder years stuck in an office day in and day out but I believe that hard work and being goal oriented is important for those of us who aren't wealthy. I don't need to have a 20 year plan or even a 5 year plan. But I need to have goals so I don't get stuck in static or oppressed way of life. 2020 was particularly challenging for traveling purposes but I used most of my spare time for self growth and I'm fairly happy with the results. Sometimes it takes a while for many of us to realize that life is short and we need to enjoy it as much as possible. I look forward to your future videos. Cheers!

This is so helpful! Especially the idea that having only one purpose that we came here to do undermines the experience of just being human.

Your video came in time. I was watching the movie ''Soul'', it's a disney animation and it talks about purpose too, strongly recommend to you, the movie shows that ''purpose'' does not matter, what only matters is the moment, the present.

For myself, it's not about finding my purpose, it's about allowing things to unfold as they do, as they will. All in divine timing, all in the higher order of all that is. This happens in the present moment.

Amazing insight! I 100°% agree with what she says. And I am very thankful for the reminder. I'am 20 years old, I left University and now I live alone, having lots of time to create something. Somehow in the past few years I felt so stuck. You just pointed out what the reason was. The whole society around me including my family, wants me to "suceed", to do something. Isn't it enough that I'm alive? Like look around. As I look around I see madness. Ain't it enough success that I am doing what I think is right for me while trying to heal myself from the wounds that I got while I was growing up in a madhouse? Of course there are many kind people and everybody deserves love but our society is sick...so you who's reading this: You are enough. Let go of your ideas what other people think of you or your choices and do what's best for YOU.

Love this, it's such a great point! One of our favorite quotes is "Being yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment you can achieve". This is a message we are trying to push a lot on our channel as well as we have taken a less traditional path and have definitely felt pressure from society and family to conform! Keep being you, hope the healing brings much happiness into your life ☺️💛

Purpose should be able to live every moment fully and with time things will fall into place. Sometimes we are not able to see bigger picture so love every single moment completely. 🤗

Very beautiful put! When we ask how we can be present right here right now, the responsibility is ours... in the present moment, not somewhere in the future✨

I love love love this video. Totally went into a spiral after graduating and felt like nothing was “good enough”. Later on, I’d come to learn about the 6 basic human needs, and often those who are struggling with the concept of purpose are lacking in Significance, and further, a sense of self identity. And that question of “what is the purpose of finding my purpose?” was brilliant! Something to really think about.

This has been running inside my head ever since I was 14. Just a few days ago I told myself that this is worrying is really meaningless and instead I’ve decided to try things that I’m interested in, work through my life and it has definitely brought me a lot of solace and peace. Thanks for sharing your insight Lana! I finally feel like I’m not alone on this journey of acceptance and growth :)

Wise words, Lana! We are such multi-dimensional beings and I think being stuck on “finding your purpose” is too focused on the end result. I’ve come to realise the journey or the process of discovery IS actually the purpose in and of itself. And enjoying that process of discovery actually brings so much joy. Not needing to know where life will take me but opening myself to the adventures and lessons that present themselves to me... and understanding myself through that process... there’s so much freedom in that too. 🙌
