I never thought adding more protein to my diet was gonna make a difference on my body but I was wrong. After 2-3 months on the high protein diet I immediately noticed that my muscles were more defined and bigger. And for some reason my body is loosing more fat while gaining more muscle mass. Before, I always try to cut down on carbs and sweets since I gain body fat fast , then hard for me to burn all that off even with intense cardio. But now that I added more protein to my diet, my body reacts different. All I can say is that it really made a difference. I feel and see the results and continues to surprise me every day.

Low impact cardio is best for losing fat. When we intensely exercise our body uses carbs as energy. When we do low impact cardio like walking/incline walking and make sure we are in a calorie deficit, you'll see the weight fall off you.

@@jaythemachine3845 It would indeed, a low carb, high protein diet while being in a calorie deficit is the best way to lose fat and build muscle at the same time. You need to aim for at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight you are.

It took me 40 days to lose my first 10lbs. After 6 months of Keto/Intermittent Fasting (I.F.) I've lost 65 lbs. My waist has gone down from a tight fitting size 52" to a lose fitting 44".
I love this guy, but try to limit protein to around 20-25% of your calories. Your body can convert excess protein into carbs (Glucose Neo Genesis).
      Patience will be your reward!

    • @oldtymer9106
      @oldtymer9106 3 роки тому +1

Your awesome Doc, but please educate your viewers about Glucose Neo Genesis - too much protein and your body will convert it into carbs! That's why the Atkins diet only works the first one or two times you try it. By the third attempt your body gets wise to what's going on and not wanting to lose weight (to protect you from starvation) it will convert excess protein into glucose and you won't lose weight anymore (experience speaking here!). Better to train it to run mostly on Ketones thru a high fat diet. 70% calories from fat, 25% from protein, 5% from carbohydrates.

Im a type one diabetic as of 16 years now. Ive recently taken on a high protein low carb/sugar diet. Ive implemented keto protein shakes, with a keto protein coffee in the mornings or before work. I walk to work, a mile one way. Higher protein meats, low bread/carb/starch/fatty foods for my meals. My hemoglobin A1C is currently 11.2. My blood sugar averaging around 350. Recently, after starting this new diet, my sugars are now more commonly in the low 100s range. High Protein is a deceptive term. The western diet is less than 15% of calories per protein. So anything over 15% is high by the common reference point.
Rabbit Starvation occurs when protein % is in the 90's. So anything less than rabbit starvation is by definition low protein since rabbit starvation is high protein. You have to eat the leanest of animal flesh to get to 90%. It also takes time to get the sympy symptoms.
Most people will not like prolonged eating of 90% Protein. So it is virtually impossible to eat a high protein diet unless you force yourself. Eat a variety of Animal flesh from surf or turf.

Dr. Eric Westman learned his measures from Dr. Atkins and meats are unlimited and fats are upto 6 tablespoons per day only. Dr. Westman does not have electrolyte in his list, but as I feel lightheaded and have headaches even after 5 months on this diet, I have been using Dr. Eric Berg’s electrolyte to keep me going on keto, dont know the answer but if the Stevia also can cause intense sugar cravings? Been Pretty frustrating as I badly want to eat a donut or something supet sweet, despite strictly doing carnivore /keto for 5 straight months. Is it hormones or any deficiency? Please advise.

Recent studies seem to point to high-protein diets as contributing to plaque burden in soft arterial plaques (the soft, unstable plaques are unstable and are prone to rupture, which results in a potentially deadly blood clot). I haven't read these studies myself - I've just seen other UA-cam doctors discuss them. What are your thoughts on this?

I do know that it’s important to opt for leaner sources when increasing protein. Also increasing fiber intake (fruits, veggies) & low impact cardio such as walking & cycling will significantly lower risk of accumulating plaques in the arteries. Hope this helps ☺️

Maybe throw a banana in, or will that throw things off? Tentatively, I'm thinking bacon and eggs for breakfast, the aforementioned shake for lunch, and steak/chicken/salmon for dinner. Also, what about nuts? For a snack here and there?

When you first go Keto, and in the first few months you really need to assist the transition from sugar-burner to fat-burner. After you‘ve stabilized your Ketosis, depending on how much weight (external or visceral fat) you need to lose. We are still talking healthy fats, but just enough protein too. The reason behind this, is that most people generally don‘t eat enough protein. Then they start losing bone and muscle mass. I sometimes think lots if people change from Keto to Ketovore or Carnivore at some point. Unless of course you‘re on a Vegitarian-Keto plan. The more the merrier I say 🤓

According to David Sinclair, and Wellness Messiah and others, high protein diets will turn on mTor, and if we want to live as long as possible we need to keep mTor turned off. We can keep it turned off by eating a maximum of about 50 grams of protein a day. It's a pretty tough balance to stay on keto and keep protein that low.

...I can understand the confusion about protein, when opinions from experts vary so much. Although a lower-protein diet may potentially increase lifespan slightly (and that isn't certain), the tradeoff is likely to be loss of muscle, bone, increased risk of falls, and poor healing. Most research demonstrates that eating more protein, rather than less, helps us maintain strength and vitality as we age. I'd rather have a long, healthy, independent life rather than a slightly longer one where I may be frail and dependent on others."

@@dietdoctor Let's say you eat a low-fat meal. You're going to spike insulin more than a meal with more fat. People need to understand that, and selling them on lean meat is a disservice unless they understand that, and the purpose of choosing lean meat.
I eat lean meat at exactly one time: my first meal after resistance training. This is because I'm deliberately spiking my insulin at that moment only, so my muscles absorb the protein. I'm back into ketosis that same evening (if I actually wasn't in ketosis for a short period.)
PS: I also do resistance training fasted so I'm highly insulin sensitive at the time and I have the lean meat with more carbs than usual (like zoodles, from a starchy vegetable), to enhance the insulin spike. Thus, the fat would not get metabolized in that meal, and there's no point in that. It's implicit that most people who are watching are trying to figure out how to lower their insulin, so telling them to eat lean meat is a disservice. At best, they should eat the lean meat with a considerable amount of healthy fat, in most cases. Actually, in most cases, they're better off eating the meat with its natural fat.

Perhaps saying you get 30g of protein in 100g of chicken would be better, even for USA, as it gives a direct % to work to. Also, why use chicken as an example? Tends to be inferior to red meat as far as protein quantity and meat quality goes (what they are fed and the resultant nutrients). And finally, we are accidentally getting a low-fat message (eg eat low fat yoghurt!!!). While that does have a higher percentage of protein, it's better to recommend full-fat dairy, surely?
