- After much blood, sweat, tears, and replacement parts, we finally got to hear the 3 speed shifting!
And what a BEAUTIFUL sound it is!
This was the 6th tank with the 3 speed working properly. as you'll see at the end of the video, we had a surprise issue but nothing to do with the transmission this time.

To avoid all movement you could add a little lock tite. Under the engine support before the two parts So as to stick them one to the other a bit on the screws as well this is a long pilot chaft There is a lot of pressure in this place kyosho should have added a support to the front of the engine with a ball bearing

Awesome truck. It also comes as an electric version but I have not seen many videos of them. I love how the nitro sound and preforms but my neighbors would probably complain if I ran it in my cul-de-sac. Having a 3 speed would be nice but that and dealing with the nitro tuning would probably be difficult for me.

Yeah 30% is all I use. Hi ain’t got the USA one, but I have the med force cruiser and I have the crusher, And The X fox. The crusher my favorite battery and go yeah appreciate you sharing, specially the video Taking a three speed apart and back together I haven’t never messed with mine yet have a head to. I’ll be following you for more.
Will have another shorter rebuild video soon - my second USA 1 stripped 3rd gear so will post a video on the repair and maintenance of that one. Other than that it's working great 👍

I've always wanted a T Maxx ever since I was about 10 years old. I ended up getting a Revo just due to availability at the time, but I don't regret it! They're practically identical aside from the suspension geometry. Will probably get a t Maxx one day just so I can say I fulfilled a childhood dream
Get the tmaxx if its your 1st nitro,they are waay easier to work on vs revo

Its a great rig but after all the gearing problems on the nitro version, seeing from your vids and other vloggers, considering now the HPI Savage 4.6. Hope Kyosho sort this out. Thanks for the upload. Waiting on the metal gears if it would make a difference. 👍.
I got this primarily for the 3 speed transmission since there aren't many others out there. If I'm not mistaken the HPI Savage XL had a 3 speed but they don't make it anymore? I'd have probably gotten that otherwise.
The Kyosho is a fabulous machine when it works. Mines been running good since the rebuild and today's stripped gear teeth was due to loose mesh which I've now fixed. So will see how it holds up....I'll be sure to keep you all posted 😎
@LocoNitro It's reliable now, it seems there was a bad batch of bearings.
There aren't any other 3 speeds out there and honestly that's what I enjoy about this - hearing it shift twice
@LocoNitro Yeah I was confused with all the issues because this 3 speed design has been out for years with the mad crusher etc. Once I got it working it's been incredibly joyful to drive. I wish more companies made 3 speeds
I've got a Traxxas Revo 3.3, a TRX6, and an X-Maxx lol. So far they've treated me very well. Never had any issues with my Revo in the roughly 2 gallons I've ran through it (knock on wood)
@LocoNitro yeah that sucks! Sounds like my experience with the Kyosho at first lol. All these nitro problems are why I got the x-maxx, for those days I don't feel like tinkering with a nitro 😆

The first gear housing is my main problem with my Kyosho mad crusher GP. Seems to slip when accelerating. I cleaned it out, re-lubricated but after about a tank it starts slipping here and there
Hey turok, love the three speed shiftin.g I really like this truck, and the mad crusher even more than that. Just not sure if i should get this or the hpi savage. Have you an opinion on this? Cheers

Yeah seems like some quality issues on these new ones. After replacing a couple of the trouble parts it works flawlessly

Cool to hear/see that 3 speed working for you! Is there a way to tighten the chain too? Looks like now that you have some time on it, it's flopping around a lot.
I used to buy byron 20 and 30, then mixed it 50/50 in a couple empty jugs to get closer to 25%. I haven't bought nitro in 3-4 years, byron closed up shop, but I still have a gallon of their 25%, should last me another 3-4 years... lol! I miss nitro some days, but brushless is so much fun!
The KE25 engine definitely seems to be running so much better with the 30% versus the 25%!
Nitro is great fun but like you said, for trouble free fun a brushless is the way to go....I love my 8S X-Maxx ;)
@@TurokRC I ran nitro for 15+ years, almost always 20% until I got my first LRP 28 S3. The manual for that recommended 25%, so then I just ran 25% in all 5 or 6 of my trucks at the time so I didn't have to keep 2 flavors of fuel around. When bashing with friends, I ran out of fuel and ran a buddies 20% in it. After retuning, it was pretty noticeable that I wasn't running 25% anymore. Didn't run as well or idle as nice.

Both have their unique qualities, can't compare the 2-speed to the 3-speed! I just love hearing this thing shift

Dont set the set screw on your clutches to tight there is a spring In there .

I even got to the point where I ordered 3 new transmission parts I’ve spent an absolute fortune
Still no luck but I will try your way to get them going.
But I really want the steel gears it will be fantastic

I've forgotten off the top of my head but it's the same part # as the stock ones, just add "steel gears" to the search. They're on aliexpress and ebay

Hey dude I am currently breaking in my usa 1 on my 2nd tank and it won’t move when I give it throttle the truck won’t move and sometimes it will move a little bit I am breaking it in with the break in ring also when I was on my first tank it full throttled it self for like 5 seconds so I replaced the receiver batteries and it worked but now it won’t move I think it might be stuck in 3rd gear or it has a slipper clutch if u know what’s wrong it would be a good help
Congrats on the truck. Yeah it won't move much with that break in ring..the manual makes it seem like you'll be able to but mine wouldn't move because it was running so rich from the break in ring. I just let it idle break in for two tanks with the ring in, then I took it off and did quarter throttle pulls for the next tank, half throttle pulls for the 4th tank, and full throttle pulls for the 5th tank
