It reminds me of the era back around 1980 when exceptional female athletes were subjected to chromosome testing to possibly find chromosome variations that 'skewed' their biology/physiology towards that of a male athlete. It proved to be kind of ridiculous as most of the athletes subjected to it were OK, but those few were suspected of doping to improve performance anyway.

IOC deferred to federations so this ban also applies to athletics at the Olympics.
