I live here. I hate it here. The downtown is run down and beaten to death. West end businesses are failing and I am sure my shop job will not last another 2 years. The people are overall terrible in most cases. Snow isn't that hard to drive in. The sub zero sucks with 30MPH winds. If you drive around you will see several homes that are being lived in but should been torn down. We only got Mediacom, Century Link, Metronet is slowly rolling out they are not in more private areas. Century Link top speed is about 1.5 mbps. There is nothing fun to do here.

All you said is so true. The immigrants is slowly moving in and will be taking over. If John Deere close down it will be a shit house in the quad cities. I drove a Semi delivery truck in quad cities and delivered to every company's and homes here. A lot of areas around here are shit holes. The east side of 53rd street and upper part of Bettendorf is really nice tho.

@@thecarcleaner8364 I heard the Rockingham Hyvee that closed this year will become a homeless shelter. I already seen people sleeping outside on 3rd street at the Kings Harvest place. Which used to be a Salvation Army. My job is at a tire shop on Rockingham and the customer's are becoming more undesirable type. Been thinking of packing my stuff up and leaving soon to somewhere else. Already had a guy walk right into the shop and grab someone's $4,000 scantool to check his crap out without permission.

Davenport does suck now Bettendorf which is utterly different. The city leaders here isn't going with that ghetto atmosphere.

@@Ronniejamesleo I was originally from Bettendorf from the Age of 0 to 7. Lived on 23rd street near the intersection of Central and 23rd st. I had some good memories of it. I would prefer to be back in Bettendorf. The Davenport School system is terrible. You can come from 11th grade in Bettendorf and graduate in Davenport and not even have a senior year. Bettendorf is so far ahead in that area. The homes look far better no matter where you go. The people are generally nicer in Bettendorf. They take care of their street lights and upgrade the buildings. Middle pool looked great back in the day and they are rebuilding that to something better than before. I was there at the pool when it was still the L shape pool and went there in 2012. I will try it out when its done with the remodeling they are doing now. Their parks are much more nicer. I can go on and on.

@@Jim-ks1dt I use to Deliver tires to that tire shop on Rockingham. I haven't been over that way in many years. I always thought that area was kinda crappy. I use to love the big breakfast at Hyvee too.

I’m across the river in Rock Island but work in Davenport. Getting close to finally getting to move away from here. It’s not a horrible area but I’m definitely over all of the sameness. It’s been a pretty great place to raise our kids but now that they are grown it’s time to move on.

Every week end during the summer there is five things to do. There is always something to do in every little town around us.
Worst part of Davenport is all of the Illinois people moving here to get away from high taxes.
Internet is T-Mobile to get. $50 a month and it great.
Davenport is a dirt old river town just like every town along the Mississippi River. Most that come to visit us here beings we spend six months a year in Florida is don't you ever stay home because of all the things that are going on around the Quad Cities and other small towns. Our Camping in our county park is very cheap compared to other areas of the country.

Here are the reasons I left Davenport after 50 years of living there. 1-The city government doesn't work to improve the infrastructure. The streets are horrible, the sewer pipes haven't been replaced in 50+ years in some areas and the downtown is littered with abandoned or derelict buildings. 2- The disaster of the Davenport Hotel Apartments collapse and how the elected officials refused to acknowledge their failure in preventing it. 3- The violent crimes and the gangs are out of control. The police aren't quick to respond unless the problems are in the nicer areas or at the mall. Areas that are south of Locust Street hear gunshots a lot of the time, but the police rarely respond. 4- Homelessness and panhandling are problems throughout the city. I understand that every city has its share of homeless communities, but I don't see the panhandling in the other cities the way that I see in Davenport. My advice would be to look at the surrounding cities and towns if you're moving to the QCA.

I'm a black male and to be honest I never go to Rock Island or the lower part of Davenport. It be the black kids that be doing the shooting and gang banging around here. 11th street and lower part of Davenport is shit holes and crime feasted and I stay far way from them.

Yeah the gun shots South of Locust street is a regular thing. Gaines Street area very dangerous and so is Harrison and Ripley st. it gets worse the more you head down towards the river. It's been like that for years now. There was a building on 3rd and Division that was hit with a flatbed truck cause an F150 slammed into it. That building was compromised and they had to knock it down. The Walmart on Kimberly is full of panhandlers.

They do if you live in a prominent area. If you live down beneath locust don't expect much because that's not where the bulk of the taxes comes from. Here in bettendorf which although smaller the roads even in the lower middle class have up kept roads. It's just smaller and better managed. But the cost is somewhat higher over here.

It's not the snow. It's the brutal two or three weeks of subzero temps with 30 mph winds. Twenty eight degrees and 12" of snow is easy.

Davenport is run by the very same that runs most of Illinois. Democrats. Folks think it's a red state and tech is but the bigger cities are mostly democrat and davenport is definitely democrat. We're talking judges county auditor and mayor.

Why do the people of Davenport keep electing and reelecting fiscally irresponsible people? The city is run by a good ole boy program; the city council and mayor are a joke. Taxes and fees are ridiculous. The condition of the streets is disgraceful. The city could be so much more dynamic, too bad the leadership isn't. We prefer living outside of Davenport, a city where we were born and raised. For us, smaller town, rural , is a better deal. Love the baseball in summer and the hockey in the winter.

Sounds like big city problems in a small city, with similar solutions: move to the burbs. But the city then just gets worse.

    • @Ronniejamesleo
      @Ronniejamesleo 4 місяці тому +1

Like even most larger cities here in Iowa they seem to elect democrats to the higher positions. The police chief most times are Republicans. There is a saying about davenport and it's police force And that is you have to be utterly stupid or speeding while drunk at 3 am to get noticed by them. Here in bettendorf if you are out past 9 pm you might gain the police attention right away.
