Brings back memories of my Father. Of his 4 kids, I was the only one that would eat sardines straight out of the van with him. I’m still the only one that eats them and I’ve had a wife that asked me to eat them outside. Not the main reason for our divorce, but it sure made it easier for me. I now enjoy them in the comfort of my own home and I plan on making this sandwich!! Thanks, Sam!
Yes, they should get a microphone because they are an integral part of the show having repartee with Sam. They’re like costars and they need to be heard. That’s what sets your show apart from others.
Yes the boys should get a mic. Aa a Portuguese that is an amazing sandwich, I used to eat them straight from the can with homemade sourdough bread. Thank you guys. Another great video.
Portuguese guy here. Canned sardines, tunna, and octopus/giant squid its a "must have at home always" type of foods. I love it for some quick munchies, salads and apetizers. For sardines i prefer the spice tomato ones, i love them for some simple, eazy and quick tasty sandwish. For tunna in oil, preferably olive oil, or natural for a tunna scrambled eggs and fried potato cubes salad. The octopus/giant squid in oil with garlic canned ones. Open the cann and put everything into a bowl. Then add small diced garlic and onion (red or challots for me), finnely choped parsley, a pinch of salt (and pepper if you like) and a drizle of vinnegar to taste. Have it for, at least, 10 minutes in the fridge and eat it. The more time the more it will ennance the flavours and its very nice o eat it in those really hot days with some bread. Have them a go, at least the 3rd one. I'm positive you will love that one and you'll skip the process of pressure cooking an entire octopus. I only use fresh, and then cooked, octopus for this type of salad/apetizer if i'm also going to make some portuguese octopus rice (it's a "must have" portuguese recipe). Cheers from Portugal
Hi Sam born and raised in Point Loma. Tommy's fish market has been around for years. Being Portuguese my family comes from a long line of Commercial Fisherman. Thank you for promoting Portuguese Sardines. They are the absolute best, something everyone should know. Thanks!
I LOVE sardines! I’ve eaten them ever since I was a little kid. I usually put them in a tossed salad or simply eat them right out of the can. I will definitely be making this sandwich-looks delicious!
Wow! This takes me back to my childhood as my Dad would always make these, not as fancy, for lunch when we would go camping, fishing, or hunting.....I'm definitely trying this! Thanks Guys!
My favorites are actually the sardines in mustard. I might make something like this. Roasting peppers is too much effort for me though, so I keep a jar of roasted red peppers on hand. Some pickled red onions might go good with that sandwich as well.
In the 1960's (yeah, last century), my family lived in Europe. We would travel in our VW camper bus and stop at small family-owned bakeries in France. My parents would buy a large baguette, split it down the middle, smear butter on both halves, then dump a can of sardine fillets in olive oil on it. They would then cut the whole baguette into sandwiches that we would eat for lunch. Great memories of that. I still love those simple sandwiches.
they arent just camera men they are part of the show, its what makes you guys unique is the family banter, its not just some dude running through a recipe at lightning speed, its a good old school cooking show with a modern twist . so yes get the boys a couple mics pls
I often do a breakfast sardine sandwich where you fry some onions, sliced garlic, and egg( scrambled or sunny side up) in the excess sardine oil first. Serve on toast with the sardines and lots of fresh parsley.
This is great!I am from Greece and this is something that i make quite often.Especially with leftover mackerel...the other ingredients more or less are very similar...❤
Yes! Yes to mic, yes to sardines. Definitely a top 10 sandwich. I like them with thinly sliced tomatoes, arugula and pickled red onion slivers. been liking moroccan sardines lately
My dad would take cheap biscuits and make a dough in a cake pan. Drizzle good olive oil on top. Chop 3 to 4 cans of sardines in oil along with a whole onion and garlic. Mix together then spread on dough. Little more olive oil if needed and season and bake. Wow freaking fantastic.
As a kid, my mom would make me sardines on toast with lemon squeezed on top. It was delicious! I’ll definitely try this one. On another note, will you be getting your carving set back in stock soon? I really want and need it! Love you guys❤
Sam, this is just up my street!! I love a sardine sandwich. But that sandwich you made look so delicious! I'm definitely making this one! Thanks for the recipe😋👨🏼🍳😋
Great video!! I love a good Sardine sammy. I make mine on a lightly toasted and lightly buttered pretzel roll with baby arugula, thin red onion, tomato and Kosciusko lager mustard. Sometimes get the sardines packed in mustard, skip the lager mustard and add a few capers. Cheers!!
I'm almost 60. My mum made pizzas with sardines when I was a kid, we used to 'help' by eating the sardines and champignons before they ever saw the base. I can't believe sardines on pizza isn't more common, it's bloody beautiful.
Hooray Sam! Amazing looking sandwich. I eat a can or 2 of sardines in olive oil each week from the can with some crackers. My wife nearly up-swallows just watching me, and makes me sleep in another room because she says I stink like fish. You are correct, there is literally nothing more healthy for our brain & heart than canned sardines. March on, Sam! And yes, get the boys their own microphones so we can hear their comments. STCG is a team, and we need to hear y'all!
Sardines on toast was a healthy budget meal I'd get frequently as a kid in Scotland in the 80s. I always think it's weird when it grosses people out- it's amazing and so much nicer than tuna. Though I love that, too!
sardine is incredably fishy in taste thats why its so off puting to people me included. tuna is super impresonable among fish so you dont have that fishy after taste. most people against fish didnt grow up eating a lot of it so they didnt get used to the after taste. its just my personal opinion on why its disliked vs tuna
LOVE sardines and most canned fish. smoked kippers on saltines with hot sauce =YUM! The queen ate smoked kippers for breakfast nearly every day of her life and she lived into her late 90's......
Sam - thanks for reminding us how good a sardine sandwich! Did a grocery run this morning and had one for lunch, including the roasted sweet pepper. Great!
Went to Lisbon the Capitol of Portugal this summer and tinned fish is everywhere including a restaurant that only serves meals using tinned fish/seafood it was really delicious, thanks for spreading the word…super healthy.
I’ve been eating sardines since I was 5. LOVE canned fish, sushi, Scandinavian & Dutch food. All fish heavy. Sam needs to go to Amsterdam during herring season. Little herring stands EVERYWHERE!!!
Absolutely yes on the mics...I guess my question is are they gutted and cleaned before canning, or are the heads and tails just cut off? I always thought they would be gross because they were just whole fish.
I recently tried sardines for the first time and LOVE THEM. Apparently there has been a wave of new people loving them as well. Would love to see some other recipes using them!
Just made this sandwich - wow! My family has been buying those Spanish/Portuguese canned sardines forever. This sandwich is a rich, delicious, full flavored use of them. Thanks!
I love sardines and sardine sandwiches. Try this one, pumpernickel bread covered generously with cream cheese on the inside of each slice. Place one can bristling sardines on slice #1. Top sardines with 1/2 a jar of Romanoff black or red caviar and top with slice #2. Delicious!
Being half Portuguese, I grew up eating Sardines, Anchovies, octopus and squid and lots of Bacalhau (cod). Even as kids we had sandwiches with sardines or anchovies for lunch. Seafood stews and soups were almost every night for dinner.
Tommy Gomes is a legend. I was privileged to attend the “San Diego Chefs Salute Tommy Gomes” years ago. I also did the artwork for advertising the event.
Considering they're an important part of the show, they absolutely need microphones. The banter will be legendary. EDIT- And I do love sardines. King Oscar brand. From Norway.
So happy to see you make a sardine sandwich instead of tuna like everyone else. My dad introduced me to sardine sandwiches and now I'm making them for my son.
Sam… I’m with you Max and Chance need mics!!! This will add so much to the videos because Max and Chance have a great voice that you always call out to. They are your backbone in the production but also with the content. Love all you guys and love the videos I watch you guys all the time! If you need a donation I’ll get mics for Max and Chance lol
Just putting it out there, top the sardine layer with a fried egg before you close the sandwich up.... You're welcome! Great vid Sam. Here in the Edmonton area we have the italian center shops that sell all sorts of european canned fish, abd thanks to you, I'm going to broaden my horizons!
Get them boys a mic ! As for sardines... I love em ! I have been on a diet for the past 3 months & sardines have been a big part of it. Gonna have to have a cheat day & try them w/ that toast. Looks awesome.
It’s like this was made for me. Just the last few days I’ve been looking at sardine recipes and stumbled on your old video of your mom’s sardine sandwich. The way you constantly shoo away Max 😂
Truthfully not big on Sardines.. but my brother has been eating Sardines out of the can for 60+ years !! After this video and everything you made the sandwich with... I'm trying them for the first time ever !! And I'm 60+ also !! Go Sammy go Sammy !! Who da man ? You da man !! Haha 😅
Yes, the boys definitely need to get their own microphones. And I’ll take a sardine sandwich…hold the sardines. Just can’t do it, but enjoyed watching Sam make it.
As soon as I watched this, I had to make one. It turned out AMAZING! I thought I bought capers, but they turned out to be green peppercorns. I used them anyway... still amazing! Now I need to try it with capers.
Yes to the mics, I hit like to this episode, not because of the sardines but because how amazing and awesome this show is, I absolutely love it

You their union rep 😂
@@SnuupSantana I hear some mumbling, but that’s about it

Spanish sardines😊
From the Cantabrico... just the best in Santander😍
Thanks for the idea! I can handle that.

Pickled Red Onions. Nice touch! 😋
Sardines with green tobasco peppers a pretty darn tasty if you can find them.
I love the idea of pickled red onions in there!
Definitely sardines in mustard, been eating them for a long time.
I adore Sardines 🥰
Thank you for this recipe 👏👏👏
Sardines are THE BOMB, as is this amazing looking sandwich! Thanks for the idea of adding paprika to the butter for toasting.
Definitely up my alley! I love sardine sandwiches. Try it on toast with Avocado.

Yes sardines and eggs, yes 👍🏻
THANK YOU for finally addressing the microphone issue, it's exactly what I've been commenting about forever. Either mic them up or use captions.

Yes! Yes to mic, yes to sardines. Definitely a top 10 sandwich. I like them with thinly sliced tomatoes, arugula and pickled red onion slivers. been liking moroccan sardines lately
For those a little hesitant, try mixing the sardines into the aioli to make a “sardine salad” sandwich 🥪
That's how I started, I made sardine salad sandwich. And then I realized sardines don't taste much different than tuna.
🇵🇹 sardines 😊
Love Sardines in or on anything!! The best! Thank you for everything that you do!
They should have their own mics. Max & Chase commentary is the bomb.
An excellent episode. Sardines rock and that sandwich can only enhance their flavor.
The most offensive part of this video is how Sam never cuts his sandwiches diagonally. The clearly superior cut.

Sam, this is just up my street!! I love a sardine sandwich. But that sandwich you made look so delicious! I'm definitely making this one! Thanks for the recipe😋👨🏼🍳😋
Where is the recipe? Tried the website and it just churns , useless. An ingredient list in the “more” section would be more useful!!!
