People don't love the look of the GX but I think it really is the perfect SUV. Hardcore body on frame construction, silky smooth V8, unmatched reliability in a size that you can drive in the city too. Beautiful truck.
Thanks for the video, I just traded my Durango for a 2014 GX. I love the air-ride suspension. If the price is to high, wait a year or two and get a "Certified Pre-Owned".
8 years later and I am watching this video in 2023! I got a 2023 Lexus GX 460 Luxury with Sport Design Package and this truck still looks sexy! When at first look the GX is not that attractive but after a while you will like it. I think it looks good and will age very well. The infortainment redesign in 2022-2023 make the GX looks more modern. This last breed of bullet proof V8 will age well and retain their resale value and highly sought after years to come. I did not wait to buy the newer 2024 GX 550 due to reliability concerns with the newer engine. Plus the GX is only 1 MPG higher.
I have driven the 2016 GX460 and it is impressively smooth and comfortable. Might be on my short list of vehicles in the coming months. I did drive a 2016 X5 which I also really liked but that vehicle starts at $56k and options up quickly. The one I drove had the M package and a few other options and MSRP'd at $71k. Not sure I'd take an X5 off-roading though. Thanks for the awesome review!
Thank you for the kind words, Jules D. We agree that the GX has a very nice ride and is very capable off-road. And while an X5 can be an entertaining vehicle to drive, we wouldn't recommend taking it off-road, either, if it had the M package with the 20- or 21-inch wheels and tires. LOL Thanks, again, for sharing and for watching, too!
+J High Believe it or not, they are 18-in wheels, J High, but as you observed, 20's would fit with no problem. Those 18's with a proper set of tires would probably work better for off-roading, though, which was still a major trait for the vehicle in our review. Thank you for your comments and thanks for watching, too!
This has normal lockers. Same suspension and lockers as a euro land cruiser so its very off road capable... I drove one last year and it was dead even with an LR3
+RazorFX Thank you for sharing, RazorFX. While we did not take it off-road (Lexus PR frowns upon things like that), the GX definitely appears to be a very capable SUV -- more capable than what most owners would be willing to attempt in their own vehicles, so it's nice to hear some real-world experience from people like you. Thanks for watching!
***** Its a shame because people take their RR's and LR's off road but not their lexus.. We have this great off road course here in central europe and we test even SUV on hard stuff. Q7 is decent if we compare it to the hardcore stuff. Another great 7 seater, just lacks the reliability.
RazorFX That's just a testament to the demographic of Lexus buyers. Land Rovers were off-road vehicles before they became luxury vehicles. Lexus SUVs have always been just luxury vehicles, so buyers' mindsets are a little different with those. Either way, it sounds like you guys have the opportunity to enjoy some good off-roading fun! And are able to do it in some pretty nice vehicles, too. Enjoy and be safe!
its a luxury prado actually but i really like it even though not go off-road. lexus is always decent.worth to say is the rear light is ugly!! ps:where are u? canada?
Yeah, they're not made for hardcore off-roading, lee michael, but the LX does have some decent capability for where most owners will take them, due to their locking diffs and decent enough ground clearance. We're located in Georgia, USA. Thanks for watching!
Just bought one the same color, same premium package. 38k miles. Love it

It's actually the best looking

The GX is quite the luxurious, go-anywhere vehicle. Enjoy your new ride, jolawil! Thanks for watching.
I clicked "Like" before I watched the video...because Chris NEVER lets us down. Great review!!
Ha! Thank you very much, The_Notorious_9! Your comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks for watching!
@@AutoAcademics You are welcome! From the former Carlo Garcia
@@The_Notorious_CRG I thought that was your new alias. LOL The picture is small on my phone tho so it was hard to tell.

I want a GX470, but they are becoming too hard to find in good condition so I may have to go with one of these.
This Lexus will probably outlive the owner with proper maintenance, baby Landcruiser.
For some reason, these wheels and tires seem too small for this vehicle.

When you tasted VW Atlas?
Unfortunately, VW hasn't sent us one yet. As soon as they do, you be among the first to know (if you're subscribed). Thanks for watching!
