I was lucky enough to see him beat Djokovic in Perth in December. He seemed to be on a completely different level than what I'd seen of him on TV. Playing positively, coming forward to receive at the baseline. It was easy to see he was on the rise
there are MANY club players that can look to De Min for guidance on how to win points and "not have a big weapon"!! so what doesn't make him outstanding - his speed aside - he is a GREAT player to watch and Learn!!! Derinately one of my faves!!!
Not really a coincidence that both made the final in Canada which has had a weak field the last 4 years (see odd final matchups) and first hardcourt masters after a 5 month break. Definitely the one to do it at when Alcaraz skipped it this year and Djokovic hasn't bothered with it for many years (1 appearance in the last 8 years). Sinner going out early this year a big plus for Popyrin.

Totally agree with his consistent team, they make a huge difference! When he gets better and if he continues to improve like he has and continues to expand his game he will get to a top 10 again.

I think its more to do with the guys who want to be No 1. They have to play so many tournaments to get enough ranking points. If the made the big 4 more points and the lesser tournaments alot less points they wouldnt have to play so much to keep their ranking.
My first inkling of De Minaur’s upside came at the Queen’s Club tournament last year. I was really impressed with his transition game and net play; and how much they had improved. I also have noticed how he’s been using his speed to allow himself to be more offensive instead of just for retrieving; which he still does extremely well.
I´ve seen Alex de Miñaur (that's the way to spell his surname, he is Aussie but his father is from Uruguay and his mother is from Spain) since he was 11 or 12 years old. I used to play where he trains in Alicante, Spain and I know Adolfo, his coach. And you're right, because maybe six or seven years ago, he told me that Alex only needed to gain more body mass to be a top ten player.

Absolutely. And Steve Smith, etc. Australia drills an ice cold competitive mindset into its elite athletes. Just take it one moment at a time, and make that moment the best it can be.
I always was in the second camp on De Minuar. Loved his speed and knew he could grow into a better player. I think he is a lot of fun to watch. A lot of that has to do with my style of play being similar. I tend to shock my opponents with my speed on the court if they don’t know me prior to playing. I hope he recovers fully and does well at the USO.
His best game , puts him firmly in the top ten in my opinion. Surprisingly, his skills and strengths are very similar to his coach / mentor LH . Good luck to him
Forehand and serve quality in the last year has a lot to do with change of strings! He stopped using a full poly string setup of Luxilon 4G rough and now uses natural gut on the main string which makes a huge difference!

The demon lacks the big shots so he needs to be very mentally engaged when he plays. He doesn't have any lee way which will make it tough to stay in the top 15
Man honestly I saw him against sinner last year in the Davis cup in tv and this year I saw in person his match against tsitsipas at the Italian Open, it felt like looking two different categories of players going against each other. I can’t understand how guys like fritz, tsitsipas, rune etc are behind him on the rankings.

But is incredible that for example if you compare to rune I would never take not even one aspect of his game , not even his speed and physicality but still de minaur is up on the rankings. Truly the creation of an environment based on work and improvement can make this incredible difference.

I said years ago that this kid would be a problem and was laughed at. Two words: work ethic. Demon is a monster when it comes to outworking MOST (not all) on the tour. Will he ever be at the absolute top of the sport? Probably not, unfortunately there’s just certain aspects of the modern game that the whims of genetics determine, you either have them or you don’t. But is he a problem now? Absolutely, even the top guys don’t have the luxury of assuming they can steamroll him, you know you’re in for a tough match when facing Alex across the net. As an Aussie fan I can only dream of what a player with Demon’s work habits and Krygios’s natural gifts would be capable of doing, hopefully the AIS have a youngster in the lab right now with both! It’s been a LONG time between drinks for us tennis heads down under 😂. Popyrin, it has to be said, is coming along nicely but the lad needs more confidence, especially after Shelton absolutely blew him away at the AO a couple of years back. Perhaps beating him, and getting a Master’s title under his belt in the same week will help give him more belief. Very interested to see how he goes at the US Open this year…
The UNITED Cup? That's not even a proper ATP event. Come on, even an absolute nobody like Nardi has beaten Djokovic this year in a masters. Djokovic only gets it up for slams now or like we saw in the Olympics Final where he pulled a masterclass just weeks after getting easily beat at Wimbledon being fully motivated on his No. 1 goal of the year (and a few weeks more giving better movement on his joint). We saw fully motivated Djokovic on his 2023 Australian Open revenge tour and he made ADM look like a schoolboy player in that "because I wanted to" match.

Can you explain why De Minaur suffers so much Sinner? I’m pretty sure the on the head to head the Italian is actually unbeaten and he got some good wins always on finals: Next Gen 2019- Toronto 2023 - Davis Cup final (he lost the 2nd set 6-0…) - Rotterdam 2024
Because Sinner absolutely murders him from the baseline where De Minaur plays the majority of his tennis from. In Canada 2023 ADM had ONE baseline winner in 105 points vs Sinner in a match basically played from the baseline. Sinner is very consistent from the baseline, has good movement and hits much harder than ADM.
Interesting re de Minaur height.. ....maybe just under 6ft but not by much. Certainly taller than Lleyton's 5'10". Personally I've always thought if Diego Schwartzman could make #8, then de Minaur certainly could too. A FAR BETTER player!! He made #6 👍😊👍
He'll get even better...gets the most unluckiest injury on match point but he'll stay in the top 10 since Tsitsipas lost early in Montreal and Cincinnati and those behind Stefanos also lost

Personally I find it very 'inconclusive' when people say height is not 'good enough'. This is not Boxing where arms 'reach' is going to make a difference. Isner is 2m , haven't won a single grand slam while Alcaraz at shorter than 6 ft won 4 already. What about Japanese Nishikori? Alex struggles with technique and being inconsistent. His games are erratic to say the least.
United Cup is up there with the Olympics Gold for Djokovic 😂 nobodies like Nardi have beaten Djokovic this year. He's not really motivated unless it's a slam or something else that he really wants like the Olympics.
Djokovic is faster than Murray and was faster as well during the 2010s. I think just about everyone would agree with this opinion. If you include his sliding ability Djokovic was probably "faster" than Monfils as well as far as court coverage is concerned.
What really marks out Djokovic is how "centred" on the shot he still can be in the corners. That's why he's the most consistent on getting a good shot back from that part of the court.

Injury is a serious problem in tennis. The season is too long and its physically demanding.
Not for prime Nadal or Novak.

Compared with other OZ capable players, Alex has maxed out his talent, just as you beautifully summed up!

Alex De Minaur is like a Lleyton Hewitt 2.0 If he continues to grind and improve he will go far.

Alcaraz > Chang > Monfils. Djokovic underated because his flexibility allows him to be centred even in the corners so the most consistent from there.

Can you explain why De Minaur suffers so much Sinner? I’m pretty sure the on the head to head the Italian is actually unbeaten and he got some good wins always on finals: Next Gen 2019- Toronto 2023 - Davis Cup final (he lost the 2nd set 6-0…) - Rotterdam 2024
Because Sinner absolutely murders him from the baseline where De Minaur plays the majority of his tennis from. In Canada 2023 ADM had ONE baseline winner in 105 points vs Sinner in a match basically played from the baseline. Sinner is very consistent from the baseline, has good movement and hits much harder than ADM.

Djokovic is faster than Murray and was faster as well during the 2010s. I think just about everyone would agree with this opinion. If you include his sliding ability Djokovic was probably "faster" than Monfils as well as far as court coverage is concerned.
What really marks out Djokovic is how "centred" on the shot he still can be in the corners. That's why he's the most consistent on getting a good shot back from that part of the court.

been a de minaur fan for a while and i think its well deserved his slow consistent progress and his never give up attitude make tennis a more enjoyable watch for me
