When Queen first wrote Bohemian Rhapsody their producers initially did not think it would be popular and didn't want to release it. So Freddie sent a demo copy to Kenny Everett for an opinion, with instructions not to play it on the air. Of course he loved it and being Kenny, he played it about 20 times over the next 24 hours - I was one of those first listeners and I remember it well!
Loved this brave and very talented guy. His shows were the stuff legends are made of and still are. Miss you still old mate and rest with the knowledge you set amazing new heights in music and comedy.
I miss Kenny's comedy very much. Compared to so many comedians today he was imaginative, unique, very creative, ahead of his time, hilariously funny and likeable.
As a gay guy, what amazes me, is that Kenny had so many people, friends and work colleagues, who just didnt care he was gay in an era when he wouldve been bashed-up and they wouldve been disowned by society as well. KENNY is, and always will be a legend. And even when i realised i was gay, his work helped me continue on living to see more of him :)
Loved Kenny he was brilliant.Saddened by his passing and even today in 2018 whilst revisiting his memory I still have tears to shed.RIP Kenny and thank you for zany laughs and giggles.Always cherished.❤️
I could care less whether Kenny was gay, straight or bi. I adored that man's humour and I've laughed through this and shed a few tears. There are many comedians out there but Kenny was one of a kind and I miss that madman. He was an absolute nutter and I seriously doubt that he ever knew how much he was loved. Hope he knows by now.. By the way, I was fully expecting him to pop out of his coffin as well! lol
I sadly did not know about Kenny when he passed, I was 14 at the time and into different things I suppose. However, in recent times, I've (quite by accident) come across Ev's material and seen firsthand how manic, hilarious and utterly adorable he was. And a genius.:)
Well thanks to UA-cam etc we don't have to wait to get dvds or wait for BBC or UKGold to show anything he did, we can now watch and listen to him anytime. Its also true to think that if he was still around now he'd likely have his own online radio station and he'd be recording his own vids for UA-cam as well as being on Facebook and Twitter.
Absolute lunatic and so sorely missed - him and Billy Connolly are my all-time comedy heroes. The sketches they did together on Kenny’s show still crack me up to this day.
He was a legend and an outrageous talent. Miss him to bits....What a personality, genius and a human. No ill in him at all.We need more of this calibre of humanity........... C
of all things they could repeat they have never repeated this series why oh why not!. Kenny Everett was a genuine genius. A sad loss. thanks for posting this
So did I!!! =) My brother and I used to laugh ourselves into fits to his show. I loved this part of my childhood. As a kid I didn't know he was gay... it didn't matter because kids don't care. I love him as he was, with all his zany gayness 😄❤
Kenny show on Thames TV, was all I knew of him. The show, was a must see, for freinds & me. Pleased to have found some of the shows, and this program. Kenny Everett ; Rest in Peace.
I was a DJ in 79 club called Sinatras in park street Bristol.. down the road was the unicorn hotel the boys and girls came to the club and we'd chat about the Kenny Everett video show.. He was so loved that man, still is and always be... goodbye darling sleep well.....
I still find it so hard to believe he has been gone for 20 years! Wouldn't it be so great, and just like him, if he were to suddenly reappear and tell us it was all just a joke? Sadly it won't happen but wouldn't it just be so great, if only ................ A truly funny man and a genuine comic genius, keep resting in peace dear Kenny.
I miss this guy so much. Thanks to some kindred souls at PBS12 I got to watch really silly funny shows like Kenny’s, The Pythons, the Goodies and others that totally went contrary to public tvs image up to then. They were run late night long enough to become hits before the powers that be became aware of what was going on. So this is the kind of sense of humor I grew into, in my tweens.
I could not give a fuck if Kenny was gay. He was a human being, a funny dude and a quality DJ. Long live and rest in piece the memory of the wonderful Kenny Everett 👍
Kenny had acting talent, timing and a wonderful ear for sound. A natural entertainer who for me, leaves only funny, happy memories. RIP Maurice Cole xx
Kenny Everett is my hero , he brings the funny into silly, a kind rebel with lots of hot gossip dancers, in Australia when Kenny was on tv we all sat down to watch , missed and loved.
A breath of fresh air and a moment of light during some very dark times. A man who taught me to always look on the bright side of life and to make sure that I had a laugh, or made somebody else laugh, at least once every day. The way the world turned against him was heartbreaking and it upsets me that, to this day, his shows remain in a dark dark dungeon somewhere decaying, they need complete restoration for admiration and, dare I say it, titillation. titivation etc. etc...
One of my heroes when I was a young kid. Kenny's TV and Radio shows were totally unmissable. One of the greatest DJs, one of the greatest comedians there ever was. RIP Ken. XXXX
I was born in 1968 and the ABC in Australia screened (and then repeated and repeated) his TV programs from around 1980 so I grew up watcing them. It was great, they often ran in a block with programs like The Goodies and Doctor Who. He became very popular in Australia and I think later the Seven Network even bought and screened the shows previously seen on the ABC as well. He was obviously very camp in his delivery. I was gay and always felt the "naughty bits" were funny as they were mainly women (gorgeous women!) but in campy 'constructed' and overblown 'sexy' lingerie and suspenders. A very 'safe', comic, and not very challenging type of naughty. It took me a while, but I gradually figured-out that all the funny voices like Carla and the 'Commercial Time!' jingles were all Kenny's voice. After that press confirmation that he was gay wasn't really a surprise.
Fair-Play... Australia eh.👍. Can't fault the (unique) genius who's 'naughtiness' is nothing compared to the stuff shown nowadays! Nobody's perfect, but used to have me, fam' & mates LOL'ing every damn time/sketch the legend.. Just gutted never heard him on Radio much, didn't live on strong & that had such a sad ending.😳 (Bless) ✌
An original and a one off. I was upset when I heard he had died. I grew up watching him as a child of about 8. I don't care what his sexual preference was. He was a funny guy who who with his characters like sid snot made comedy enjoyable and not like the PC rubbish of today.
Remind's me when I was young :) I would also take things to pieces especially clocks, but there were always some spare pieces left! so can identify with Kenny on that one :). The man was hugely talented /Unique/ well ahead of his time/Pure genius!. Kenny was himself. :)
I used to listen to Kenny on Radio London in the mid-sixties, he was mates with The Beatles, he used to play demo tracks from their singles & albums long before they were released..

I have to say that I draw a line between hilarious (straight[?]) Everett and the self-confessed homosexual. I reckon this intolerance is a product of the environment I was raised in. He was a very fine entertainer.
I can vaguely remember his stints on R1 & scared the crap out of the Beeb. The Thames TV onto his BBC TV era was fantastic,as was he. We used to disappear indoors from playing footie in the backyard on Monday nights from about 7 to 7.30pm just to watch him!
He was the best and along with Benny Hill, their talents caused jealousy, so they got hounded out. With no chance of a replacement. Looked through all the comments and was hoping that someone had done a list of the DJ's at 3:37.
