+Spaniel Yes it was delightful and interesting and slightly sad at the same time. I love people like him, as they say what they like but mean no harm. They live life in an honest and warm hearted way, and most importantly.....they do not conform to what society demands them to be. I wish there were more like him today, but society tends to want to punish or lock people like him up. :-(

+EgoShredder People like Kenny should be the role models of our society and should be idolised by the youth today! Forget all these pop celebrities who fight for the front page by going from scandal to statement all the time.. If people were happy for their own talents and appreciated others more, the world would be a better place 😊

His comedic thought process was definitely on a higher level then most; very similar to Robin Williams.

The really sad thing was that the real reason for him dropping television was almost certainly because he knew the journey he was on with AIDS and that he didn't want that journey to be seen on TV. He was a truly wonderful man and a great loss to a shitty disease.

I love Kenny, a liberal thinker but not a lefty, a gay but not a lisping whoospsy, a part of the 'establishment' but not hive-minded, a true individual, taught my generation to think outside the box and now we're all grown up in a world that only thinks in boxes

Thanks for sharing this. We live in his house in Wales and it's lovely to see him talk about his life here. His recording studio is still above the cow shed, I must look under the floorboards and see if we can find that valve. Such a great talent, taken too soon.

He's so much more assured here than in the interview in his country home. Mavis really draws him out of himself, he's really honest and vulnerable here. And he's so right about Sessions. I'm sure his diagnosis this year knocked him for six, AIDs took far too many wonderful people, famous, and not famous.

what a gem this is. I lived in London when this was on and missed seeing it, probably on night shift. He was such a great wit. and its so sad he died the way he did but that was his lifestyle at a time when AIDS treatment was in its infancy.

What a wonderful interviewer Mavis was. She let her interviewees talk on but would always come back at them with a pertinent question, to prove she had been listening all along. Kenny was wonderful too; he deserved better from 'the press'.

Totally agree. She did her research, asked a sensible question and listened to the answer. Miles better than Parky, Frost or any of the other more well known interviewers.
She almost comes across like a psychiatrist, analyst or even priest in a confessional. LoL

What a beautiful talent full of self doubt. You can hear he's on the same level of some of the top tier comedians and impressionists, he can just break into anything at a moment. Such a sweet and creative man. He's in the same tier as Cooke and Moore, Chapman and Cleese, Sellars and Milligan. And Kenneth fucking Williams. And he had the enthusiasm and smarts to take advantage of technology, (Cook was experimenting with tape based things) all good artists push the boundaries and find new and interesting ways to express themselves. Bowie did it too. Good artists never give up and never fail. Even aging Groucho Marx could utterly destroy people with razor sharp, clever stuff that wasn't nasty. Kenny is a lost talent. And you can see his neverousness here, he's got to the point some of us do, where it's simply dealing with things. I'm farily fucking rock and roll, but even I've noticed he's drinking scotch or something the interview is not that long. He's noticeably "relaxed." And I"m not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but you can identify it. You see it with Cook a bit. Doesn't slow him down at all. He's sharp as fuck, but still, why? IT's for some reason. He's dealing with shit. A complex and beautiful man, very missed.

I listened to him on Capitol in the late 70s when I was 9, 10, 11, 12. He added levity to the day. Typical bit: "Henry the 8th was buried 500 years ago today....I bet he niffs."

His radio days up until the early 1970s were pure gold, tailed off a little after that. What shame he squandered so much of his time on TV work, the pictures were far better on his radio shows! IMO his TV stuff was simply doing more extreme versions of Dick Emery, Monty Pyhthon and Benny Hill - almost nothing original about it.

Do you regret coming out? ... do you think the papers treated you badly? It's an interesting approach to questioning. Of course they treated him badly.
