This game actually does have a limited amount of continues before you have to start over from the beginning. I think it's only three. The life count was set higher than the default so we wouldn't use them up as quickly.

I always liked the visuals in the arcade version, the NES version did it's best in capturing the game play but it is still better in the arcade
