- Shingo Yabuki, A.K.A the goof ball of the King Of Fighters franchise, was originally designed to tone down a little bit the serious and dark mood of the game where he was first introduced, KOF 97. But unexpectedly, he ended up being loved so much by many of the fans, that he became a requiring character and an essential fighter within the KOF roster.
In this video, we'll expose everything we know about Shingo, and we'll know if he is just a comic foil to Kyo Kusanagi, or if there is more to him that we didn't know before.

My favorite Shingo factoid is that he is the only character who doesn't get a sound effect when he activates his desperation move. He actually makes the sound effect himself with his voice.

If he forgot about flames and focused to create his own fighting style using the Kusanagi's as base other fighters would take him more seriously, his potential is inmense. With only one year of training he became able to compete in the KOF tournament, other fighters probably had to train for years.

@Hektols In the Gaiden manga, it was stated by Magai that Shingo's regular stance doesn't work with his type of body, even if Shingo knows the basics of the Kusanagi Ryu. 😶
This goofball really needs to come back in KOF XV. The past 2 games felt something missing to lighten up the serious but cool swagger feel to it, TBH.

King Of Fighters Destiny showed promise if they continued to a 2nd season. But I guess it was too mediocre.

Kof destiny was not bad but most of the characters there looks like they're from sims.
He might be seen as a goofball for some but as it well known a person who appears to be on one extreme, usually have an equal heavily opposite side. I remember his intro on 97 where he exhale anxiously before any match and trys to believe in himself. I see him as a man who has a purpose and fights to prove that he is capable!
The nicest part of this, is from all the characters, two of them have a strong faith on Shingo which is Saisyu[Kyo's father] and Chizuru Kagura.
Speaking of the latter one, I love how she acts like a second mother for Shingo, they would make a nice team in KOF XV.

Actually Jiro The shadow slasher, he is stronger than Kyo, significantly even...... but due to he lacks experiences (alot of experiences), _F L A M E_ and training, he would always be be weaker than Kyo in a different way...... but...... who knows? We have multiple flame users, Shingo having flames would be a possibility...... maybe.....

@@CombatSportsNerd He was trained by Saisyu in kof 2001, and as far as physical strength goes he might very well be the strongest in the series. Shingo with flames might not beat kyo as far as skill goes, but Shingo would still give Kyo a run for his money.

The level of the quality of storytelling on one is not just perfectly amazing but it's completely satisfying,and fun in a hilarious way, as always, i really enjoyed watching your lore videos, especially this is one since it's all about Shingo which is originally intended to be a joke character but he ends up being fan favorite, even for me who is a Fatal Fury player but to be honest, Shingo has a lot unique moves that i can really utilize in my team way back during KOF 99 onwards, and i was surprised you mentioned the lighter in KOF 03, where only little knew about it which really amazes me on your efforts to put up this video and make it a really light hearted content since it's a "LORE OF SHINGO YABUKI" of course, man, all i can say is that you didn't just made a good job, but you made a better job and please never stop make these stuff cause is completely satisfying, you didn't just made the best Shingo Yabuki lore video but you also give enough justice to this character despite constantly being set aside on every KOF story and also being belittled by everyone, you did an undeniable perfect job and can't be argued because THIS IS THE BEST LORE VIDEO OF SHINGO YABUKI I HEARD WITNESSED...!, AND PLEASE KEEP IT COMING, KUDOS TO VERY SATISFYING JOB YOU DID HERE...! 🙌🙌🙌

@@yunase I'm new to the whole kof series, but judging by how shingo is very popular and how he's still able to compete against other fighters despite being a regular human being I'd say he's doing really good for a character that was meant for some comedy relief.
@@nuttypotatoe1210 he actually requires a lot of skill to play. I never felt he was that much interesting until his later iteration. His biggest strength was raw damage and the fact you could do another move if the "critical" word appeared (like a "counter" hit). He's popular because he embodies the average kof player who was mostly school boys (like myself). He appeared during 97 which was the beginning of the KOF peak. Everyone in asia knew about the game. You either knew how to play or you were out of it. KOF then became even more popular during the 98' era peaking until 2000 (where later 2001 was under playmore since SNK went bankrupt).
Basically, you can say people grew up with this character. Getting love from players, but hate from the game (where he's mostly ridiculed, until the later KOF where he gained respect from his team mate and acknowledgement from Kyo, his master).
He's the potential to turn into a very mature, strong and cool character. Let's hope they explore this option.
@@yunase Matured ok, even more skilled, it's ok too... as long as he still a joke char. Otherwise it wont be fun anymore. There is a difference between that and being strong in the game. Like, he was never a weak char. In that sense he is different from Sf's Dan, for example.

Of all the pupil joke characters I see in fighting games, Shingo is my favorite one. His martial arts are not perfect, but you can see that he tries hard. He is pretty significant in the story as well and is also a hero in a way. If Kyo chooses to remain with Beinmaru and Daimon in XV, then maybe Shingo can team up with Chizuru for helping him with his medical bills.
Doing a vote on which character you should do next huh...I did say the Bernstein family in a previous video. However, after playing through some KoF games and watching KoF Destiny, there is one character who is relevant in every KoF who I think deserves some much needed attention. In terms of design, gameplay, lore, and the many connections he has with various characters in the series, my one favorite KoF character that I would like you to make a video about would be none other than the Ikari commander himself: Heidern.
Definitely agree about Shingo making a team with Chizuru. She's one of the very few characters who really believes in his potential and have genuine faith at him. Also she acts like a second mother for Shingo after the all shit both of them has suffered during 2003 and further events

I don't know if Shoryugame has ever mentioned this but... KOF does have plenty of references to JoJo's bizarre adventure. This is the biggest. Shingo Yabuki is voiced by Takehito Koyasu aka DIO. That to me is the biggest of all references. A man responsible for voicing a nearly immortal vampire with a stand voices a kid that wants to be like Kyo Kusanagi. Honestly, I want Shingo in KOFXV. #Justice4Shingo

I think Shingo have a lot of potential, and he should just give up on creating flames from his hands and just accept that he himself is unique and tries to train hard to improvise the skills that Kyo and Saisyu taught him.

I relate to Shingo so much because I have great aspirations, but my lack of talent gets me nowhere, always sucking up to the most popular celebrities hoping that doing it would get my big break, but the total opposite of that happens, and I'm often the laughing stock despite my good intentions. Despite those downsides I'm currently facing I accept myself for who I am and strive to be as great as my idols.

I tell ya man, I really really dig these videos. Not just because they're super informative (SNK bosses can be merciless and I can't buy every game) but also because your own passion for these characters clearly show in these videos. Though that's also why I dig the SNK fighting verse, the characters are so compelling and the stories tend to be better than most other fighters.

Honestly, Shingo's moves could be implemented in KOF XV, and it would make sense if a few of his moves changed, because he may have been studying Kyo's moves while resting. Most of Shingo's super special moves have evolved. Case in point, Burning Shingo(Moero Shingo). At first, it was a mix of Shingo's Aragami and Gettchu move, along with a few strong attacks, until becoming more and more of a Final Showdown-esque move, as shown in KOF 2003 as well as KOF 2002 Unlimited Match. The Desperation move version could be the version with just a mix of Aragamis and Dokugamis. The Super Deperation move version could be the one in 2001 and Unlimited match. The MAX Special move could be a spinoff of Kyo's special in XIV, but there are multiple candidates for this spot. They are as follows:
The "Shingo's My Way Maimer"(KOF 2003-KOF XI;double qcf + BD): this is a super version of Shingo's reverse dragon punch move. In some circumstances, you may be able to get the hitbox of Shingo falling for some MAJOR damage.
Shingo Style God's Duster or Shingo Kinsei Oreshiki Kamichiri(KOF 2002 UM;double hcb + AC): this is Shingo's version of Kyo's Kamichiri... or Kamakura. I'm not quite sure of the name, but it sure does a lot of damage. It also has a bit of humor, considering Shingo pauses halfway through the move to check for any more moves. I hope a running gag like that is in XV somewhere if they put in Shingo.
I love the fact that Shingo gradually worked on his poor aerial spin kicks in 97 until it became his strongest super move in 03 and XI

I would love for Shingo to come back soon, and actually gain a power. I almost feel like it would be funny if he does figure out some ability, but it ends up not being fire, something else completely, but he still tries desperately to make it fire instead, or makes it mimic fire in some way. I like characters like him, because while he's comic relief, he's not made bad by any means, and managed to find some real potential despite being a goof.

The fact that Shingo got Kyo and Iori to work together is amazing! Especially when you realize that Shingo is the only person to never bribe Iori to fight Kyo.

Shingo is my fav character in kof, alongside Yashiro (normal Yashiro not orochi) and Sie Kensou. I really like character with raw strength without projectile power. Shingo kick is my fav moves, easy to connect with serious damage.

The moment I did his super and he fell face first into the concrete I was interested, when I noticed that faceplant can also connect? I got hooked into becoming a Shingo main.
I could imagine if Shingo and Sakura met some day and actually fell in love with each other and got married and had a kid that would be one of the greatest fighters ever of the next generation. If it was a boy, I’d bet they’d name him Kyoryu or Ryu Kusanagi, and just imagine him being a bad ass new fighter that has Hadokens, Shoryukens, Spin Kicks, Bodega Flame Punches, the anti air flame. The kid would have insane combos I’d bet. That would be pretty cool.

@@jerrym1218 kyo I could definitely see, but Ryu is a more complicated matter since he wouldn't even train Sakura. They would have better luck asking Ken to train them.

@@jerrym1218 They would definitely have the motivation, but success is unlikely given ryu's outlook on trainning others( that being he doesn't think he should at the moment). If Akuma is still trying to get Ryu to give into the dark hado, that would give him more reason not take a student at the time. Iori also seems like he wouldn't want a student until he's worked through his issues.
As Kyo, Chizuru, and Iori just defeated Orochi again (resurrected bcoz of Verse), they decided to team up and look into this Verse Matter together this year.
Meanwhile, after "recovering", Shingo is ready to participate as well. So, he sets off to find his teammates.

Somewhere in South Town:
Rock is miserable, fighting with the leader of local weapon dealer Alexandrite, trying to get Geese Howard's location. He knows his father is not dead, and participated in last tournament... but still hiding from him.
Rock is not at his best shape, taking beat down as his mind is not at right place.
Shingo breaks the fight. Alexandrite says to them that they stopped working with the crime boss long time ago, and knows nothing about Geese's current affairs.
Adelheid arrives, he was notified previously about the fight. Seeing Alexandrite beaten, he started attacking Shingo & Rock...
During the fight, something unexpected happens... Shingo strikes and knocks out Adelheid with FIRE. He is both excited and little bit confused.

After a while:
Shingo: Look, we aren't after you...
Rock: I'm looking for Geese Howrad.
Adelheid: Right, your father!
Rock: Don't pretend now you know us!!
Adelheid: Well, you aren't the only one with daddy issue, in fact most of us are trying to recover from our former self, or shadow of forefathers...
Shingo: I never knew my father... for all I know, what have I learned from my life, fathers don't define sons...
Adelheid: It's our Action which defines us!
Shingo: Yea! See how life turns out... Kyo, the man I looked up to, teaming up with his rival, the man who wanted to kill him, who almost killed me for trying to save him, Iori... Father, Master no matter what, no one is worth your attention more than yourself.
Rock: Anyways guys, thanks for the talk.
Adelheid: Hey, have you found your team for KOF XV yet?
Shingo: no!
Adelheid: how about us?!
Rock: sure, Geese is bound to be their like the last time!
Adelheid: I have a feeling someone might be resurrected too!
Shingo: Orochi?! He's already defeated by those double timing teams.
Rock: No, he's looking for his father... Rugal!

Appreciate the fact that you incorporated the fact that Shingo was supposed to be the body Orochi manifested in the development of 97', and made that as an excuse to throw fire, but I'd rather have Shingo as the "regular" guy in KOF, it's what made him special in the first place
also if Shingo = Orochi then he'd have met a truly unjust fate (death)

Love you for this video! Being a newbie to KOF I never met Shingo in-game, but from what I got from other sources I always liked him from the beginning. Would love to see him in KOF XV!

Can Ryo Sakazaki teach Shingo to cast fire? It sounds like an exclusive technique but the other cast members can do it such as King, Mai, and Ash
