Just returned from my FAA airman medical. Your recommendations have lowered my blood pressure by at least 20 points. Both diastolic and systolic. Many thanks.
Here’s the recipe that made beets work for me: boil and cut the ORANGE beets so they look like orange slices/ put on a bed of arugula and baby spinach/ add crumbled blue cheese/ add walnuts and my favorite dressing is Paul Newman raspberry walnut. Delicious!
feta is good too
And the beet goes on…and on…and on
😂🤣
Thank you.
I am on a blood pressure roller coaster and have found so much info from your videos. Especially how to take bp at home.
Seeing results and thankfully I love beets and have not developed a kidney stone.
Cayenne Pepper lowers BP!
Love your channel❣️
Yes and easy
Which brand?
@@nicholasgroves1820 use whatever brand you like
I love beets as is no spices needed. I have afib and the med has also lowered my BP. It's been normal for 8 yrs. Enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the tip!
I grow my own beetroot. Peel and slice thinly. Sun dry and blitz to make powder.
P.S. It is entertainment, you're hilarious, I'm thinking of calling it THE ADAM COMEDY SHOW. Just kidding, thanks for the info.
No worries!
Just a possibility to share with everyone that happened to me. My bp was stubbornly high despite drinking beetroot juice almost everyday. I found out it was probably because my blood was thick so the juice didn't have much effect on me. After i took fish oil omega 3 supplements, the juice works like it should 👍
Excellent. Congratulations on finding a solution.
I used to increase the fresh tomatoes I gave my mother when her bloods showed that her INR was high and her blood needed thinning (ie higher Warfarin dose). Drs initially wondered why she never needed a higher dose for long and soon reverted to the lower dose! lol
As she was regularly monitored and Drs knew she had tomatoes in her diet it was not an issue.
@@malaika2940 A low INR indicates need for higher dose of warfarin. A high INR indicates need to reduce warfarin dose. INR is a measure of how quickly the blood coagulates. Warfarin is an anticoagulant. Usually Dr's consider a therapeutic INR to be in the 2-3 range for persons on warfarin with a history of clotting issues, ie. blood clots, Afib, mechanical heart valves, or a genetic clotting factor defect.
@@marytee3963
Exactly…..sorry if I wasn’t clear. When her INR came back higher than normal her Warfarin had to be increased. Hence the reason I would increase the tomatoes, which helped “thin” the blood. The coagulation was due to AF, which was why we had to monitor quite closely. Ordinarily she would have been on double the amount of Warfarin, but thankfully due to her enjoying the tomatoes she managed to maintain a lower dosage. However, once she was reviewed after a week or so and her INR had reduced to her usual levels, we would resume our usual routine.
Being on Warfarin was a nightmare whenever she accidentally cut herself!
Hi what brand fish oil omega supplements did you take?
@@nicoisthomas3802 I bought cheap ones because I am unemployed and wanted to save some. You should buy the ones sponsoring Doc's video because I know a person as responsible as him will only let good products sponsor his videos.
Edit: Buy the correct fish oil, Omega-3 is for blood thinning.
Iirc, Omega -6 is for blood clotting.
There are also yellow beets. i believe they are just as nutritious. I also boil the the beet tops and eat them like spinach. Pure celery juice also helps lower BP. I drink a 16 ounce glass first thing in the morning. Thanks Dr. Story. Have a great day!
Beet greens are my fav greens.
Just put celery in a juicer?
Quick suggestion for juicing: Put all the pulp / fiber back in the juice. Once it’s liquid, it stays liquid. Alternatively, you can put the pulp on salads or other foods, or eat it buy itself.
For that matter, just use a blender instead of a juicer!
Magnesium and Potassium supplements. Take sufficient amount for your profile. I take them in the morning and about 2 hours before bed.
I occasionally juice beets with carrots, apples, ginger and sometimes pineapple, but I juice them raw. Is it better/healthier not to juice them raw?🤔
Fresh cook d beetroot sandwich with whole grain bread. Now that’s a delicacy!
some places sell boil eggs soaked in beetroot juice, i buy as many as I can
Great information here. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
In France we can buy huge baked beetroot .. absolutely delicious and tender with all the juice retained in the skin.
Wonderful. I love beets and I’m moving to France!!
Could you juice them but on the side eat something high in fiber to keep the blood sugar stable ?
Great video Doc 👍
Glad you liked it!
Does canned beetroot count? I love eating canned beetroot :)
I know I've posted this before, but... I can't stand the taste of beetroot, so I prefer Arugula (or Rocket in the UK) which has more nitrates than beets.
Use that then. The research used the juice of beets because it's hard to juice arugula.
I bake beets. I put them in salads
How about raw beets in a green smoothie? It does seem to be working for me, along with a little light cardio each day.. Thanks again Dr. Story!
Sounds great!
Can we just eat beets. I love beets.
I do just that. I peel and chop beets into small bites, about the size of a half a grape or smaller, season with healthy salt and enjoy. I like the crunch. The juice IMO is not so good for your blood sugar. Further, if you boil them then I suspect they loose some of their potency in the process. NOTE: Eating beets can change your urine color to pink or red, but this is harmless and temporary in general.

Hi, Doc from uk. Love your channel as wonderful advice as always. I have a question. I have high blood pressure 190/110 and a kidney stone (don't know which type of Stone). You advice not to have beetroot juice because of having kidney stones. But can I take beetroot supplements instead of juice to lower Blood pressure as beetroot supplements might not worsen the stones?
Thank you x
Sugarless diet, limited carbs, no pastry, carbs from vegetables and fruits, exercise also helps in lowering blood pressure.
Beet juice definitely is lowering mine after just a week. Went from 149 to 117😂😊😊
So doctor how is one to take beets even I have a past history of kidney stones? Plus I like beets
New here… Thanks Doc❤
Welcome!
I like eating raw beetroot. Would that also lower my blood pressure, or do I really need to cook them?
For any pregnant mamas who have elevated BP- eat a whole rotisserie chicken in 24 hours and it helps lower your BP. Or just eat chicken as often as you can/increase your protein intake.
My midwife actually recommended it and it worked.
And take a toke of the special weed to make
sure you eat the entire chicken including the bag.
I might of missed it-how many beets do you have to eat? I don’t have a juicer right now. Thank you
What about, pickled beets? I love sliced pickled beets
Good question
Any way you can get the beets or its juice into your body I’d just fine!
Niacin and magnesium, as citrate, or glycine...
I have drank beet drinks made with beet crystals. I used up two large jars. And, NOTHING!
Hi Adam, what about just taking Nitric Oxide Flow which NPB also make ?
@@garthf9609 I take that myself.
What about "canned" beet slices is that just as good ? Anybody please answer.
Please, I would love to know also
I would like to know too.
Not as good as the juice because you just can't eat that many. It's better than no beets.
@@AdamJStoryDC thanks 😊
I'd love to do this every day. However, my kidneys had problems processing them. My urine started turning red. I had to stop
So long as that is harmless, why stop? My nephrologist just mentioned this happening and it does not concern him.
Pretty sure it's normal for beets to turn urine red. Maybe try the "golden" beets instead?
Dr,does this include pickled canned beets .?
How does canned beet rate?
I get migraines. Beet root extract, yeast extract Monosodium glutamate all trigger them. If they do for you I would not recommend boiling beets and using it.

Can you give some info on labile hypertension? Is it ALL stress?

The problem with beetroot is that it has high oxalate content
@@pakmail135 yes. We know that.
LOL. So what.
So you ought mention is there a way to meaningfully check oxalate levels. Waiting till you get kidney stones is like waiting till you have a heart attack before you engage in preventive behaviour. Also there is another very credible scientist on yt with far more nuance about all this who would argue that beet juice is not the best solution for many for NO production and that it does not last 24 hours but he has his own products so who knows….
@@georgecav oh… he knows.
Been there done that and it doesn’t work
It does for many people, in fact read the research. I works for most people. It just didn't work for you likely because of other factors.
Same it it not work
BEET IT! lol
Does beet root powder affect anyone or make you feel weird? 🤔
Grapefruit
Friend of mine works at a print shop and said you guys are already printing a balance to beat Trump young or so
He says: you can lower bp with beets or beet juice, but then he adds salt!!!😂😂😂
salt doesn't affect blood pressure for everyone.
Why Beetroot juice better than th actual beet. I have been eating shredded beet for years, not everyday but at least 3/4 days a week and still on medication.
@@Diane53M because you probably aren’t eating enough to make a difference. 6-8 ounces of beetroot juice is not the same as shredded beets. Just like taking not enough antibiotic to kill an infection, the dosage matters.
@@AdamJStoryDC Thank you for replying, forgot to mention that I was diganosed with T2D recently so can't have juice, which is why I asked why the juice is better? I am in UK and you have given me more info and advice than any medic here for 20 years which is how long I have been living with HBP.

Also check out breathing in through the nose and eat leafy greens. Make sure the beet and leafy greens touch the tongue where a positive reaction occurs.
Except breathing through my nose is extremely hard because of high levels of dry mucus plugging my nose up.
What about canned beets, no sugar added
Extra virgin olive oil. 2tb spoon daily. Works great.
How long does it take 🤔
Check out Ornish and Esselstyn. Also a recent study from July saying EVOO does more harm than good. Given their are many other excellent ways to get nitrates.

Wonder what Dr. Story thinks about an arugula smoothie to lower blood pressure?
Does it matter whether you eat red beet root vs gold beet roots?
Heart Beet. Go right it, lol
“Give me the beets, doc, to free my soul” …. Would love some advice on beet chews, are they as effective?
Thanks doc! I have three questions.
1. Do the "golden" beets have the same nutritional value as the red ones? (I like 'em bc they're a bit less messy for me.)
2. If using red beets, it's totally normal for the urine to turn red, correct?
3. I thought I'd heard that cooking the beets reduces the oxalate content. True or no?
I’m not sure about the first question but it’s yes to the second and third. He explained that in one of his many videos. If I find it I’ll share the link with you.
