I think another reason he is picked online is customisability. Having 9 different colours to choose from (without a giant bow) will make Yoshi more popular as you feel more free with your options than the princesses' biker outfits. Also LEAVE PEACHETTE ALONE SHE IS GORGEOUS
I am not sure how to put this, I pick Yoshi because he's my favorite, and my opinion about the meta, it is just a suggestion by pro players, like no one is stopping you from picking Bowser or Toad. Character and car combo is a minor impact on gameplay, only your skill and luck matters while racing. Like in Mario Kart Wii, Daisy and Funky Kong are meta, I still pick Yoshi with Dolphin Dasher to take shortcuts without losing a lot of speed.
@QuintenGaming05 I totally understand that and respect you for it, but I think a lot of people don’t realize that and feel the need to over-optimize everything such as by picking Yoshi and that’s what I was trying to address at the end of the video
sure, if you are playing at a low vr it doesnt seem to make much of an impact, but once you get to a certain vr, everyone will be using the meta combo, and you will be at a complete disadvantage if you dont pick it as well, sure you could pick bowser, but everyone else will be able to drive way faster than you, and sure you could pick toad if you find it fun to be launched into the offroad everytime someone collides with you, but if you were playing yoshi teddy buggy, none of this would have happened, you also have to take into account how everytime you lose a race you will think "see this wouldn't have happened if i was playing yoshi", which discourages improvement and places your skill outside of your control. look yoshi isnt my main either, and i dont mind sacrficing stats to play with a slightly less optimal character, but to say that "character and car combo has a minor impact on racing" is blatantly wrong,
