Excellent video and thorough description. Was able to use this to get the lock of a recently acquired used Saris roof rack to match my Saris key. Left out one of the four wafers as suggested to get things to line-up for my key...for the high, medium and low spots on the key. Now have two Saris roof racks (pre 2007) working on the same key.
Thanks, worked like a charm :) Had to ditch one of the wafers, since I needed medium height, and the others were marching already, but other than that worked perfectly. Just need some luck with matching wafers, or multiple cores to play with.
So I did this a few years ago to match a cargo carrier and rack system together - and I tried to do this again today and realized that while maybe we can get lucky getting all of the correct wafer heights from key to key (rearranging them properly), it isn't a given! I have a set that has too many of one height and not enough to complete the match to the key. So it didn't work! Just be aware that it may happen to you where they don't all match.
Yes that’s true won’t always work, but if it’s too long then my next suggestion is to file the wafer down to the correct height. If it’s too short though then yeah gonna have to either remove it completely or replace it with a different one
Dude, I rarely comment on videos but this was brilliant. I wonder if there’s some sort of binary code going on here or a formula that translates the wafer thickness to the key code.
Yeah good question. I’m sure there’s some sort of rhyme or reason to their designs and locking coding but if I were the manufacturer I wouldn’t necessarily want that to be public 😅. Glad it helped!
brillant video has just saved me a fortune re cored 12 locks to the one key took me some time to figure it out but no more then half hour
So glad to hear it brother! Thanks for commenting
