"Are they twins?"
No, but both bald and constantly miserable.
And phil now looks like an old man scrotum
Everyone gets served their divorce papers in Albert Square on Christmas day
Alan Taylor it’s Santa’s side business. He brings gifts to kids and divorce papers to Walford
And of course in the pub!
Yep or get kicked to The Curb. Also keep in mind this was one of the "Original" Familes. The Blond Lady is Pauline Fowler, Her Husband is Arthur, and The Lady is Arthur's Mother Louise Beale. Pauline's Fraternal Twin Brother is Pete who is married to a Woman named Kathy who had their Son Ian at 16. The Little Boy is Martin, a Late In Life Baby and she has another Son named Mark who died of AIDS, and a Daughter named Michelle. UK Soaps are very Blue Collar.
Just like Sharon's parents Angie & Den
The actor who plays Grant, Ross Kemp has really good documentaries. They are actually worth watching.
Really...........
@@iSuRRendeReDuK yeah! He nearly got himself killed in Afghanistan
Like Ross Kemp on Gangs...
@@katsuakira2724 the one in Jamaica definitely wasn't faked
His rendition of jingle bells was definitely a SMASH hit
EastEnders and Happy Christmas do not go together....😅😅
But Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a visit to Albert Square on Christmas day.
“Back at the legion of doom” honestly that should be the Queen Vics nickname, so much has gone on in there 🤣
Julia Smith (the co-creator of EastEnders) directed two Doctor Who stories back in the 1960's having directed the first Doctor (William Hartnell) story The Smugglers in 1966 and the second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) story The Underwater Menace in 1967 for the shows fourth season.
The UK did a show called “TV’s Top Hardest Men”. Out of a total of fifty, Ross Kemp who played Grant had two spots on there. One as Grant Mitchell, and the other as himself because of a documentary show he did called “Ross Kemp on Street Gangs” where he travelled around the world, to interview the worst gangs there are while literally putting himself in possible mortal danger should things go south. Apparently though, in order to be granted an audience with a Russian mafia type one, he had to go through an initiation where he would have a jacket placed over his head and set on fire. Which he did.
This show was always far too joyous for my liking, a little more misery, despondency and despair wouldn't have gone amiss...
It mean it's set on Christmas.
Are you mad? Hahaha it’s like the most depressing show on earth
@@stevesteve5785 pretty sure she was joking / being sarcastic
Can we talk about the most shocking part of EastEnders in the 90s?
The Jacksons' kitchen.
Thing was Sharon married Grant's brother Phil years later and she cheated on him too and got pregnant! When he found out the truth Phil chucked her out and that was this Christmas.
Cheated on him with his own apprentice!
@@BALLOTELLIAGUER nah keanu already had his aprentership mate
There have been 2 live episodes (I think). One of the actresses during a live episode messed up and called the character by the actors name by accident. The end is usually the best part with the 'doof doof' drums because it means the character got a cliffhanger. The actors have said before how difficult it is to hold a doof doof face because it needs to be a dramatic pause
How's Adam?😃😃😃
The did the same thing again in the 2019 Christmas day Ep. Sharon cheated on Phil and got kicked out.
You'd think after this sharon would go on holidays over Xmas. She's had divorce papers on Xmas day, told her family she's in an incestuous relationship with her brother on Xmas day and this year revealed she's cheated on current husband(her original husbands brother) and is pregnant. She might consider hibernation during the festive season.
Aww, you didn’t get to see Ethel’s little willy!
They've been putting older episodes of Eastenders like this on during the day and I've been watching them.....I really need to get a job.
Nigel the best character I'd love to see return. He was a school friend of Grant and Phil but very soft himself although had their respect. He was the only one who could criticise them without being hit lol.
Soaps are very popular in the uk, on most if not all tv guides have soap characters on the front covers with headlines about the upcoming episodes. Top 4 popular soaps: Eastenders, Coronation street, Emmerdale & Hollyoaks (from 6pm-9pm weekday nights).
I like the Xmas episode where a character, Dot Cotton, was hosting a Christmas dinner and invited all and sundry to join her. Most of them said yes, not intending to turn up. until the adults found out whilst they were all eating their own dinners. So as punishment, they made all the kids finish dinner then go round to Dot's and make them eat her dinner too.
Years later Sharon marries Grant's brother Phil and cheats on him too. XD
I've just discovered your channel Taffe these past two or three months, and wow it's trippy for me to see you react to this stuff, this episode was from 1994 I think, when I was just a kid of 9 years old, and watching it back now is very strange, in a good way. Thanks for this!
Obviously you're not interested in this now but as soap operas are continued both characters came back and there were repercussions, in one way or the other it was literally decades, but we love a soap opera and we have long memories, so we remember their stories 2 decades down the line.
You have to react to Phil Mitchell on crack. Some of the finest television ever screened.
Nigel, played by Paul Bradley was in the first Episode of Red Dwarf which you reacted to. He also played a burglar in an episode of Bottom called "Burglary". Ritchie and Eddie tie him up and torture him.
Well that Christmas episode was tame by Eastenders standards. Even though it's not Christmas you should react to more Eastenders Christmas specials because nobody has a nice Christmas in the square
Almost nobody has a nice day, Any time of year , on the square lol
@@jean-lucpicard5510 lol true
Just incase nobody has said yet. Grant was once in prison on a charge of armed robbery, I think. It was during that time Sharon slept with his brother Phil. When Sharon confided with a friend over what she did, that said friend recorded the whole discussion. And as was inevitable, Grant stumbled upon the recording. After playing it in the pub for everyone to hear, Phil would confront him in an Auto Repair shop he ran and urge Grant to beat the crap out of him, which Grant did after being rattled and provoked. He would end up throwing Phil down the garage's maintenance pit and putting him in hospital. Grant though would secretly harbour a grudge against Phil all the way in to the early noughties and pay him back by ruining his own marriage.
Oh this is a blast from the past. The faces that are still on "The Square" Those that have left. Those that have left and come back again. The ones that are no longer with us. I stopped watching over 10 years ago because it wasn't the same any more. On reflection... Oh my god it was always bad lol 🤣🤣🤣
@ghostgaming I watched from the mid 80's. Some good storylines over the years, some of which you mentioned. But there came a time when I just couldn't buy into the storylines any more. (Not to mention that it was depressing the shit out of me and good to form, Christmas gave absolutely no reprieve lol.
I do remember the exact point I changed channel and never went back. It was when it was revealed that Heather Trott had had a one night stand with Darren Miller. Just seemed to make absolutely no sense and was done solely for the surprise twist factor. I have seen the odd bit every now and then but seemed to be the same nonsensical drivel. The 2017 Ronnie and Roxy death springs to mind. 🙄
The queen Vic might actually be the legion of doom....
The person who played Pauline played the young Miss Brahms in "Are you being served"
From saucy Miss Brahms to a battle axe Mrs Slocombe lookalike during 40 years of TV acting, and we are unanimous in that.
Yup and RIP Wendy Richard and some of the other cast in that episode
Jesus Christ!! I didn’t realise that Grant handing divorce papers to Sharon was a 2nd rate repeat of the Xmas 1986 episode where Den handed papers to Angie
Me and my mum actually met dirty Dan when I was a baby.
@@aminyamumsminge it's den
The episode on Screenwipe was the 1986 episode with Dirty Den. I can see why you got confused, they recycle their storylines every 10 years 🙄
in never ever imaginedan americanwatching eastenders, i used to watch this as a kid in like 2000s
Need to watch the one where everyone finds out that Max has been sleeping with Stacey (His Sons girlfriend) 😂 You wanna talk about awkward, that's most awkward scene in soap history.
i was 4 months old when this aired, and my mum used to watch eastenders every night, so i was likely in the room when this was broadcast for the first time
I loved your reaction to my favourite soap opera. Lots of love from the UK
A lot more crazy shit happens nowadays in Eastenders Christmas day episodes. I still remember this episode though. I was 8 years old.
There was a divorce in the soap back in 1986 ....
30.1 million viewers tuned in on Christmas Day in 1986, to witness Den handing Angie her divorce papers, giving the soap its highest ever episode rating, which has yet to be beaten by any other plotline from any other soap in the UK.
I know I'm rather late commenting on this video but did you know Ross Kemp, who played Grant Mitchell actually starred in a modern day adaptation of A Christmas Carol where he played the character of Scrooge? But his name was 'Eddie Scrooge' instead of Ebenezer!
I was born in London's East End.My father worked on the docks and the markets.I can assure you the East End shown in this soap opera is NOT how we were bought up or live!!!
The Mitchel brothers are the best
Great reaction.
Grant is definitely a psychopath and takes no crap from anybody.
Phil is a little more laid back, but when something goes wrong? He gets angry and tends to fight them.
Pauline,Arthur and Auntie Nellie,Nellie had a cat called Mandu.Sharon is still in EastEnders to this day.Nigel was married to Debbie, the woman you see there but she died tragically...
For a good eastenders storyline you should watch Stacey bipolar storyline
Lacey turner who plays her is a great actress
Do more Eastenders
Wow, 1994. I was 3 when this was aired. As an avid soap fan, it feels strange watching these older episodes seeing how young everyone looks. Kinda like watching classic corrie
"Have you ever though about why I did it?" Dude he literally asked you 10 minutes ago. He even gave you multiple choice
4:50 - Taffe316 "Heard of him I have...... Why am I speaking like Yoda"
Probably you are remembering Inbetweeners S2 Ep1 and Will McKenzie's impression "Fiesty one you are" 🤣
Bloody hell I remember this episode
Edit, I know it can be complicated with UA-cam but it would be interesting to see a reaction and comparison to a current EastEnders.
Btw I stopped watching EastEnders about 15 years ago because it was too depressing
Sharon, the blonde cheater, eventually ended up with the brother, Phil, but history has sort of repeated itself as most recently she had an affair and is pregnant with someone else's baby.
I was really little during this era but I still remember a majority of the characters. A few are still around, including people originally presumed dead.
Memories the good old days life was nothing like they showed in this show where in the world would you find a place were everybody dies on a weekly basis
Over the decades I've seen snatches of the show and each time it looked like this. Slanging matches, people constantly drinking and a general air of despondency around the place.
Christmas episodes are usually bleak...
Well this defiantly fit that bill
@@taffe316 Actaully despite the divorce this was one of the happier Christmas episodes. Nowdays all the characters have to be misrable or it just isn't Christmas.
EastEnders is always bleak.
Please do a part 2!!!!
I think the one you saw on Charlie Brooker was when Den wanted a divorce from Angie on Christmas day. Eastenders has a habit of repeating stroylines.
EastEnders also had some great gangsters that the Mitchell brothers got mixed up with. Dalton was my favourite villain who had issues with Phil.
@taffee316 I am English. I have been watching Eastenders for almost 30 years. (yes I know I'm sad lol!!) You have only watched it a few times with it not being broadcast in the States and you have worked it out in the first 5 minutes of this really old Christmas episode. As for the Queen Victoria pub being the legion of doom you have no idea how right you are. Also for someone that doesn't watch Eastenders you have got Grant Mitchell summed up so right. The Mitchell's rule Albert Square. You are a really funny guy. You are also the only person that has ever made Eastenders funny. This is the first video of yours that I have watched and just from this video you have gained a new subscriber.
love this soap
"No, Graham isn't your fault, but it's your fault"… the logic? Is it his fault or not that Sharon placed two huge horns on his head?
Angie and Den's marriage ended in much the same way and much the same location
I would rather take this Christmas episode over the stupid newer Christmas episodes like the death of Abbie who fell off the pub roof due to her crazy dad Max at the time. She died but her unborn baby was completely fine.
Some say it is a Christmas miracle, but I don't buy that for a second.
do more eastenders yeah especially from the 90s and early 90 that was the most peaceful and quiet Christmas episode
The queen Vic pub was were Sharon grew up why she didn't want to leave grant and his brother bought the Vic when grant and Sharon got married. She comes back though later on.
That was Christmas 1994? Seems a lot can happen in two years. I'm currently watching Classic EastEnders 1992 on the Drama channel, where Gill Fowler recently died from an AID's related brain tumour, Pat Butcher is about to launch Pat Cabs, Ricky is married to Samantha (Grant and Phil's little sister) and living in a squat, Ian has a thing for escorts (not the car) and Arthur is doing landscape gardening with Mrs Hewitt.
now is Nov-Dec 1993
The one that came second, "Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads" is well worth a reaction. (or the initial series, "The Likely Lads"). Situation comedy about two young Newcastle -upon-Tyne guys which is very funny.
Dun Dun Dun Dun Dun Duun Dun, Dun Dun Dun Dada Dun Dun Dun Dun Dun Dun, Dun Dun Dun Dun Dun Da Da, Dun Dun Dun Dun, Daaaa Duuu Da Dun Dun Daaaaaaaa
Your welcome 😂
Back when EastEnders was good.
Now it's a load of crap
You should react to an Emmerdale episode...The plane crash was pretty good.
The 'assault' with the papers is tame compared to Grants other antics. He has smashed up his pub, beaten his wives, driven a car with his brother in it into the river and pushed his second wife down the stairs, after a long campaign of terrorising her, and then chased her into the road where she was killed by a driver. And these are just the incidences of violence that I remember. He was a jerk.
Super, super late to make this comment but I'm 34 and this storyline between Grant and his wife went on for literally months and this was the climax. I know it seems like a trivial thing, but as a viewer that saw the entire story stretching back a year, with her cheating etc, this was a big deal. Like finally, let him get his revenge
Used to love watching eastenders as a kid in the 90s, watched it as a family. good times!
As someone else has said ross kemp (guy that plays grant) does some great documentaries that are well worth reacting too. And i just thought of another uk documentary guy that I can't believe I didn't think of suggesting...- louis theroux!
This program needs to die, not one normal relationship in it, it demeans women (any new person on the show and they form a cue) utter misery and not a backbone in any of the men
There's always a row at chrostmas dinner. Generally in the Queen Vic
Against my better judgement, I'm going to watch this.
Wow merry Christmas lol, this was great I hope you do more please
😂 enjoyed that way too much. Good work 👍
After watching this you need to do a reaction to the 2019 Christmas episode
You Should definitely react to 2020 Christmas episode
Do 80s East Enders please.
You should definitely watch the Special from 1998
The Mitchell’s naked truth is free to watch on UA-cam and is really good and is a really good follow up to the one in terms of events and followup
I'm not really fussed about newer or older episodes of this show, I think anything will be great and it is the best soap opera in the UK. It has won more "Best soap" awards at the British Soap Awards ceremony than any other of the shows there (Coronation street, Emmerdale, Doctors and Hollyoaks). The award show is kind of like the British soap opera equivalent of the Oscars and the award for "Best soap" is just like the Oscar for "Best film"
Baldy psychos brother is the main character of the work by twitter god @Coldwar_Steve
You sound definitely react to 2020 Christmas episode
It was always depressing as shit. Bet I've not seen it in 15 years.
Oh I was on Phils side, Saron totally fucked him over in the larger story!
Although I met the actress letticia once and she was lovely.
Didn't realize that Arfur Fowler was still in it in 1994...
plz plz plz the day today the best show ever
Would you please react to “Best Of Eastenders (2018)” the video is over 2 hours long but could do it in parts? It has the most memorable moments from the show
So can we expect to see the other 6000+episodes 🤣🤣 keep you busy for a while.
I knew the allure of misery porn would prove too great in the end! I do not envy you just now.
Christmas in Albert Square... who dies?
Well eventually Sharon married the brother named Phil that she slept with and in 2019 she slept around again with the boyfriend of Phil's daughter and had a baby and phil thinking all the time the baby was his when he found out she's been sleeping around he blew his top and went out and wanted to kill every person till he found out who it was and got him sent away to be killed now did he really get killed ...thats for you to reaction to the episode 😂
If u can using a vpn I urge u to watch nowadays eastenders. Preferably 2011-2018
Sign those papers 📃
Omg I haven't seen extenders sincederek died. These at classic gold eastenders.
correction: bruvver
I warned you. Eastenders is shouty and depressive. Never changed over the decades
Get him to react to Neighbours.Maybe the very first episode...
Never saw this episode before (wasn't a fan of Eastenders after the 1980s) but the divorce papers scene mirrors the one from the Christmas Day 1986 special where Sharon's adoptive parents do the same thing, with her father Den handing a letter to her mother saying that he is suing her for divorce, and ends with the immortal line ... Happy Christmas Ange! ua-cam.com/video/CcqqJc4xYxQ/v-deo.html ... This was the most watched episode of Eastenders ever with every other person in the country watching it! Incidently, I have both that (DOUBLE) episode and the original pilot ep from February 1985 on my media server if you would like a copy to review and comment on.
He has seen the Angie episode. It is the one he mentions at the start where he did classic corrie and classic eastenders in a video and the eastenders clip had to be removed for copyright.
You need to see the dirty den and angie watt episode
Jesus, in 34 years I've never ever sat through a whole episode of that drivel. Until now 🤦♂️.
You should definitely check out Ross Kemp on Gangs, dude. It's that guy but doing documentaries in dangerous situations. The guy is truly fearless.
I think you should crossover your reactions/reviews, by reviewing every carry on film....
