Ladies...I'm 58. Been an LFC fan since childhood.. and am STILL trying to figure it all out!
Its just very tribal thats all you need to know from the very top leagues all the way down the myriad of leagues professional, semi professional and amateur, Derbies are between local teams usually in the same city or very close by. Most very fiesty some more so.
Hi natasha m debbie he hasnt said much bout scotland am a celtic fan there a glasgow club formed by an irish man there the largest club in scotland my dad was a galway man he supported celtic thats my reason for supporting them there the only uk club to have achieved a quadruple treble 🤗🍀biggest fan base and stadium in scotland
Celtic also sing you'll never walk alone 🍀😊
🙄 Rangers are the most hated 😄
There are 40,000 football clubs in England, there are a few welsh clubs included that were formed at the start of the sport who play in the english system because they were the only opposition available, this would include Wrexham. The FA Cup is the longest running football cup competition. The teams that compete for it are the top 300 teams in England plus some of the next 700 teams based upon how they did in other cup competitions the previous season.
40,000 is way too high.
A quick Google search says there are 1,100 leagues, with about 18,500 teams in England.
@@jk844100 There are 40,000 clubs registered with the football association. The number you quote probably doesn't include clubs that only play friendlies, school and childrens clubs, beach football, 5 a side football, futsal, walking football, disability football. There are probably more children who play football in the UK than there are adults. There are 60 million people living in England, there are villages with 500 inhabitants that have more than one club.
@@paulmidsussex3409 what, so now we’re counting kids who play football on the street as “football teams”?
@@jk844100 We are counting sports clubs as defined by law which have registered with the FA as playing any of the types of football that the FA promotes.
@@paulmidsussex3409 Bro children's clubs ain't on the pyramid. If you count only clubs on the pyramid, there's about 5,000
A Derby is a game between 2 teams that are close together geographically, usually in the same City.
You forgot to mention THEY HATE EACH OTHER lol.
Yeah. And it's pronounced "daaarby". Not "diiirby" 🤤
So sad seeing the English vanish from football TV & Streets
Not always, Norwich v Ipswich being an obvious example, whilst some teams like Stockport County - despite having close neighbours in Cheshire and Manchester - don’t really have a derby.
So does Derby have a Derby against anyone?
Football leagues in England are broken down into different tiers of football; professional, semi-professional and amateur leagues, the top of which is the Premier League. After that, the Championship, League One and League Two are the remaining professional leagues.
After League Two, there is the National League, which is the first of the semi-pro leagues. There are two steps in the National League: The National League and the second step, the National League North/South, which cover the two halves of the country.
Next is step seven, which is made up of leagues covering the four regional corners of the country
The Northern Premier League
Southern League Central Division
Southern League South Division
Isthmian League Premier Division
After step seven, there are semi-pro and countless amateur leagues that span the entire country.
Virtually every town in the UK has multiple teams however he is talking here about the Professional football teams and mostly, only the ones that play in the top divisions, a Derby is when two local rival teams meet,I should also point out that Wales is overwhelmingly a Rugby country not a Football/soccer country and the the fact he didn't mention any of the London Teams is a big omission
Not really regarding Wales, perception is a fine thing, but quantifiably more people play and watch football in Wales than rugby, the six nations is huge ,but its not Wales.
Sorry but u r wrong with saying two local teams in a derby wat bout northeast northwest Yorkshire Midlands n Southern ones there's more than two teams in a local derbys there only two teams can verse each other in a derby ye of course but surely u kno this surely
that mite rite or wrong in Wales bout football but 6 nation's tho France or Italy sudnt b init cos they not British they sud b only 4 nations England Scotland Wales n northern Ireland n ye I kno they only have Ireland in rugby but it's sud b called northern Ireland cos republican r European but anyway that's y only 4
@@carllynn4264 nah mate, you can still have derbies with multiple teams. In the west midlands for example, Villa, Birmingham, West Brom, Wolves and Walsall. Each game between them would technically be a local derby but I think the original comment was just saying that a derby game can only be played between 2 teams because only two teams can play in the game I guess? Compared to a horse race where 30 horses can compete in the derby I guess?
@@carllynn4264 Can you repeat that in English please! What has happened to the beautiful language of great poets and authors. The Six Nations is now almost a European competition, a long way from the four home nations it started out as, Ireland being one country back then, pre Irish Free State, it was an extension of the Calcutta Cup competition (England V Scotland), still awarded. The Netherlands and other European countries are up for joining if allowed to. Hopefully Italy might start to win some matches. They've won the most wooden spoons in the history of it. The Irish team is an Island of Ireland team. Also select players for the British and Irish Lions international competition team.
A derby is two rival teams from the same city.
For example Celtic and Rangers are the two most sucessfull clubs in Glasgow and the derby is called the Old Firm Derby.
Liverpool and Everton is the Merseyside Derby, Manchester United and Manchester City is the Manchester Derby ect.

A derby is a game between two teams close to each other geographically, teams who’s fans hate each other, such as United v City, Liverpool v Everton, arsenal v Tottenham, Newcastle v Sunderland, Cardiff v Swansea, Sheffield Wednesday v Sheffield United etc The fans have the bragging rights on a Monday morning in work after a derby win.
Don't do a list like this without including the Bristol Derby! The Gas v The Teds
Massive Liverpool fan here, since 1978 YNWA
Did I miss something cos I didn't even hear him talk about any London teams? I am from North London and the two major teams in North London are Arsenal (Gunners) and Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs), Arsenal has a long history originally starting out in Woolwich Arsenal in South East London but moved to North London in 1913 but Arsenal and Tottenham have a huge rivalry, when I say they hate each other I mean they really hate each other and thats just the fans lol. There is a video by COPA90 Stories called "I Hate Everything About Them" - North London Derby | Derby Days" you will see how serious the fans are. My cousin was a professional footballer he started his career out at Celtic but spent most of his football career at Coventry City then went on loan to Leeds United before moving to Sheffield United, then over to Portsmouth, back to Coventry City and then last of all before he retired as a footballer to Notts County where he actually scored a blinding goal from the half way line right at the end of his career he only retired this year, but he is now assistant head coach at Forest Green Rovers, his name is Michael Doyle.
I think that might be the part 2 they mentioned they couldn’t find
Unless Yr a fan of Spurs or the SCUM, you wouldn't understand the deep, deep hatred that is felt.
As a Coventry supporter I can confirm Doyle is a legend for us. Helped carry the club through some very dark years
He really skimmed over Everton (my team) failing to mention that Everton holds the record for competing in top flight football: "The club was a founder member of the Football League in 1888 and has competed in the top division for a record 118 seasons, having missed only four top-flight seasons (1930-31, 1951-52, 1952-53 and 1953-54)."

Football is so ingrained in our culture, whether we like it or not but it’s so interesting watching you both delving in and giving it a go. Much respect to you both. ❤
The football league was founded in 1888 with 12 teams
Portsmouth FC (or Pompey as its known) has the oldest football chant. The Pompey Chimes dates back to the 19th century. "Play up Pompey, Pompey play up " is chanted to the sound of the chimes of Portsmouth Guildhall Clock ( the same as the Westminster Quarters). Pompey may be in only the 3rd tier of English football but are well known for their passionate and noisy fans.
A derby is a game between 2 teams form the same city. like Liverpool vs Everton , "you will never walk alone"

If you want to see some LFC passion I suggest you watch 2005 Champions league final against AC Milan, BT sports Liverpool v Barcelona semi final 2019, and fans singing YNWA in Australia. I think it’s called greatest YNWA version or something like that. Enjoy!
Ipswich are my home town team. They are currently second place in league one. I remember them winning the FA cup in 1978 and UEFA cup in 1981. Great video as always Natasha and Debbie ❤

Ladies, I would recommend looking into the history of the Rivalry between Sunderland and Newcastle, two cities separated by only 14 miles, but the rivalry dates way back before football to at least the English Civil War. These days it is mostly friendly banter between the fans of both clubs... but can get heated from time to time
That's an understatement marra. Although my grandad was Sunderland through and through he would go to Newcastle home games when the Lads were away just to watch footie. But he still called em Takkems....
Funnily enough Liverpool and Manchester also supported different sides in the English Civil War. Liverpool was Royalist and Manchester Parliamentarian.
WHO??????? LOOOOOOOL.
I’m happy girls, you are wearing the shirt from my football club, Liverpool, someone has good taste 👌👌
Traditionally in Liverpool your family is either Liverpool or Everton; you don't have a choice, unless you want to leave home (and your mates as well).
A Derby is when two teams that are close to each other play a match. In East Anglia the local derby is Ipswich vs the other lot (Norwich, sorry that was hard to type. Need to lie down now)
yea we don't like the other lot love and best wishes from NORWICH 😉
Good win against the MIGHTY Cambridge your new local derby.Won't see you anytime soon history loving oddballs. Love again from Norwich.
Every club has a rival I’m a Norwich supporter and I grew up hating Ipswich they are 45 miles away some people think it’s some friendly game but it’s pure hatred
No greast dislike of Norwich...........always remember beating them 7-1 at Carrow Road! :) Ipswich are another thing.......so are Cambridge & Southend......traditional "enemies". Up the U's - Colchester United FC!
@@raydowsett9770 good god that day goes down in Norwich history but we've turned things round over the years. I like col u when I was in the forces I watched them a few times.
It's got to be Portsmouth! I have been a Portsmouth fan for nearly 65 years(by the way, the city of Portsmouth is known all across the Uk as Pompey, it's a navy city, the main base of the Royal Navy is here in Pompey and we have one of the world's largest collections of historic warships on display) and we have some of the country's noisiest fans and most dedicated fans.......
and hasn't it been an awesome season so far. I think this could be our season

@@evorock oh yes, Play up, Pompey...Pompey till I die!!!
The Premier League is the top tier with 20 clubs, then below is The English Football League system (EFL) which comprises The Championship, League 1 and League 2, these 3 leagues make up tiers 2 to 4 and each have 24 clubs, so 72 clubs in total, so the top 4 tiers total 92 clubs, below that is the national league and so on, and so on. Wrexham AFC are a Welsh team currently in the national league, they've recently been bought by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney and a Disney+ documentary is currently running following their progress in attempting to gain promotion to League 2 (so from the 5th tier to the 4th tier), financially this promotion into the 4th tier is massive as teams in League 2 receive much more financial assistance. Wrexham AFC has an amazing history considering it's such a small town, they've played as high up as Tier 2 in the past and were the best team in Wales for many years, they are the third oldest professional football team in the world, and their home ground 'The Racecourse' is the oldest stadium in the world that hosts international football matches, having hosted their first international match in 1877, I'd strongly advise watching the TV show as it would be a great introduction to how football works over here, the show breaks it all down for people who are complete newbies to the sport, love your reactions!
Hi, I’m pleased you have been watching Welcome to Wrexham, they are my closest team; I don’t go to matches any more, but my Dad used to take me when I was younger, it’s nice to see them getting some attention and investment after all these years.
Would love to see you react to Liverpool FC videos - especially those featuring the late, great Bill Shankly & You’ll Never Walk Alone!! Best football club in the world ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Found this really interesting, l like football but don’t know lots about it ,so this was great for me and l would like more football reactions 👍
Well done Natasha on guessing one of the North East Teams - being from Newcastle I feel a bit "showy offy" that you knew this.... Love The Natasha & Debbie Show.
As a fellow Burnley fan I would just like to say that Viz has put together an interesting video. It must be mind boggling for you Americans. The history of Association Football would be worth looking at. For instance Burnley were founded in 1882 and were original members of the Football League for many years in the 1950/60 and 70s we had a chairman called Bob Lord who was a real character. And although a small town team and never particularly popular there have been over 80 books written about the mighty Clarets.
A fellow Burnley fan! Only two points from the top now
Great shirt our moto is YNWA You Never Walk Alone. That is the best shirt you can wear. Liverpool Football Club.

Great reaction. I'm not really a footie (football) fan myself but some top teams in the country were mentioned. Londoners will probably be upset as no London teams were mentioned. For example, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Crystal Palace. My local side is Coventry City in the midlands, just east of Birmingham. Weve won the FA Cup once in 1987 which was a massive thing for us. I remember it well. The city went nuts! Sadly, atm, were not in the top flight as we used to be in the 70's and 80's, but Coventry city fans are always hopeful because we have to be! Cov city are known as the Sky Blues after the colour of the strip. Different teams have nicknames too. Everton are the Toffees because Everton was a big, sweet making area. Newcastle are The Magpies because they wear black and white like the bird. Likewise, Norwich are called the canaries because they wear Yellow. Apparently, Southampton are called the Saints because it was formed from a church side called Saint Marys. There is local history contained even in the nicknames of football teams.
Love that your wearing the Liverpool shirt & England shirt. Both sown into my heart since a little boy. Liverpool to me is the greatest club in the world. Check out there greatest comebacks ladies 😘
Weirdly enough alot of Liverpool fans don't like England
Good on you Natasha - Portsmouth is the right choice. Chuck Culpepper, a US sports writer, also made the sensible choice (but out of all the teams in the UK a few years ago. I'll treat you to the book as it's nearly your birthday.
Also, Pompey, as your club is known by as a nickname, has held the FA Cup longer than any other team in the competition, at 7 years. This was from 1939 through to 1946. Some jealous supporters of lesser clubs say this was because of something called World War II, but that's just sour grapes :)
Just to confuse you ladies even more, most of the teams have nicknames as well.
The Liverpool shirt you were wearing was their kit for playing home matches, but the clubs play in different colours for away matches, which change often, as clubs make alot of money selling replica shirts, scarves, hats, etc.
I've Subscribed just because you're wearing an LFC shirt. YNWA Coolio 🧙♂️
Liverpool are pretty cool. Used to be huge, then weren't for a while and are now pretty good again. Fans all over the world.
to get an idea of who's the best based on league titles in history then you get: 1/Manchester United (20), 2/ Liverpool (19), 3/ Arsenal (13), 4/ Everton (9), 5/Manchester City (8) that is based over most points from 38 matches in the season (3 for a win 1 each for a draw). The FA Cup on the other hand is a straight knockout between all the league teams (and some from subsidiary smaller leagues) these are not seeded so you could have a minor side playing Liverpool for instance , this results in the occasional shock result over the years. The League Cup is the other knockout trophy (very much the lesser trophy) played between sides that play in the main league only.
A derby is when two rival teams play each other and each one has their own identifiable title ie Liverpool Vs Everton is "The Mersyside Derby".
Stoke City are my home team also known as the Potters and I support them massively, we're currently in the Championship trying get back into the Premier league after we were last in the Premier league for 10 years and finding it very difficult to get back into the Premier league at present. In Stoke on Trent we have 2 teams which are Stoke City in the Championship and Port Vale in league one, when 2 local teams who come against each to play we call that a local derby but for that to happen both teams have be in the same league or the odd occasion you can meet up in cup games. There's football teams in every City and most Towns, football is massive in the UK.
The English cup competitions are annual knockout tournaments, with the League Cup’s competitor teams being from all the 4 football league divisions i.e. the top 4 leagues/divisions. The F.A. Cup includes all professional and even non-professional clubs, so there are many more rounds of matches/random draws to see who plays who. In addition to these cup competitions, there are matches where clubs play around 24 other teams from the same division, with league winners also receiving trophies. In each league, top 3 or 4 teams get promoted to the next tier, whereas bottom teams get relegated and drop down to the next tier. Some Welsh teams play in the English system, but also have Welsh Cup (similar to the English F.A. cup) competition. Winners of these various competitions qualify to play against the winners of European Cup Competitions.
Bitter blue? 🧐
In England we have the Premier League Championship: 20 teams play each other twice ( home and away) each season. 3 points for a win' 1 point for a draw. Team with most points at end of the season are crowned Premier League champions.
Then there are 2 knockout cup competitions to play for. The FA cup and the League Cup.
Top Premiership teams qualify for the European Champions League and the Europa League cups.
He forgot about the East Midlands, Derby, Nottingham Forest and Leicester. Derby and Forest have rich football history with plenty of honours and it is a great derby game. He would’ve probably opted for Forest as they have won the European Cup twice and are now in the Premier League whilst my Derby have had some rotten luck with owners and were relegated to League One 😢 Leicester won the Premier League recently with an amazing underdog story, worth looking into. So the East Midlands has some very healthy football history.
Leeds is the most hated team in the UK, they had a reputation for being overly aggressive and nasty from years back that they can’t shake.
Happy anniversary girls ❤ My late dad was a Manchester City fan and my late mum was a Manchester United fan. Dad got to me first so I’ve supported City for 52 years. In my immediate family it’s a 50/50 split - 3 blues and 3 reds

League Cup is open to all 92 member teams.
F.A. Cup is an annual knockout competition and is eligible to teams as far down as the 9th level of the Football League.
The League Title is won by the team that has the most points at the end of the season.
UEFA Cup. Teams are placed into each round depending on their previous season's domestic league ranking.

Cups are knock out competitions, open to all professional clubs in a country.
The European Champions League, is also a knock out competition between the top 4 teams in each European country.
To win this is the holy grail for many clubs, and attracts world wide TV audience.
A Derby is a bit like some College Bowl games, college sports in some ways are closer to how sports work in Europe as sports teams aren’t franchises, cities and even smaller towns can and do have multiple teams - so they have closer links to the local community than say NFL teams sometimes can (in the sense that say the only professional team for the whole PNW is the Seahawks) and teams *very* rarely move locations

I used to like Liverpool although I didn't support them as I'm from Leeds, but if they were playing someone else I was rooting for them. However sometime this year Liverpool fans booed the national anthem and when listening to their fans explanation, they said that they don't feel British because Liverpool is supposed to be poor and everyone is against them, I revised my opinion. Liverpool have an attitude that they're special and better than everybody else, so as far as I'm concerned they can sink or swim. Having said that they are currently doing well in the League. Leeds, my town, started off as Leeds City but they went bust and Leeds United emerged a few years later. We've won domestically and in Europe but that was 30 years or so ago. I think we were all blown away when Leicester won the league. I put it down to divine intervention, because they only started winning after they found King Richard III. Maybe I'm mad, but I don't think so, as that can't be a coincidence, or can it?..
Football is big here, I was a Tomboy so played non stop as a kid and later played for my University, Leeds Utd Ladies and various pub teams. Some people travel thousands of miles a year following their team. That may not sound far to an American, but the UK is tiny compared to the US. British teams have done really well in Europe over the last few years and we came second in the Euro's. Role on the World Cup.
The most policed derby in England is West Bromwich Albion v Wolverhampton Wanderers, it isn't so bad these days, but 20 years ago it was really something.
But, at the end of the day, the biggest derbies are those against your closest rivals, if that is say Gresley Rovers v Burton Albion, it doesn't matter if 2,000 turn up or 200,000; that's the big game for the supporters.
Leeds United all the way but I'm biased. Loving the ol England Tee too Debbie 👌🏼🏴🦁
Every town and village has a football team. My son plays for our village team. Also there are youth teams for each age group in every town and village.

There's about 130 professional teams in an area 1/3rd the size of Texas. Almost all grew organically from people in the local area, the only exception is a team from South London relocated to a 'new town' 50 miles or so north of London. (Arsenal also moved from south to north London, but we ignore that)
Localism is very important in English football. The team that moved, MK Dons, is still hated to this day for moving out of London to a town 50 miles north. However, the place it left (Wimbledon) wanted a local football team so the fans created a new one from scratch and it has worked its way back into the 3rd or 4th tier where it has played against, and beaten....MK Dons!
Leeds United has got a big connection to the USA at the moment and the fan base is massive with lot's of History!

The FA Cup is the equivalent of the Super Bowl or World Series here in the States. The biggest difference is that over 300 teams get to participate and who plays who is done by random drawing, unlike the way the play-offs in the NFL are organized. As a result, the FA Cup play-off games always have surprises where an underdog team will beat a higher ranked team. The League Cup is a secondary competition, organized in the same way as the FA Cup. The League Cup Final is played early in the New Year, whereas the FA Cup Final is always played after the season finishes.

Great to see your allegiance to Portsmouth, I'm a die hard Portsmouth fan (Pompey) and have been for years. However, what he failed to mention is that we only dropped as far as we did due to mismanagement and the club being half an hour from being wiped out of existence due to massive debt. Basically if you get into financial trouble you get relegated and lose points before you start the next season.

There are 92 league teams in England 20 in Premier league, and 24 teams in the championship (think second division) 24 in league One(think 3rd division) and 24 teams in League Two(think 4th Division). At the end of each season, bottom teams in each division get relegated to the league below them, and the top teams in the lower league get promoted to take their place in the league above. There are two major cup competitions as well, the League cup, which is open to all 92 league teams, played on a knockout basis with a final at the national stadium at Wembley. The FA Cup, which incidentally is the oldest knockout cup competition in world football, is open to every football team in the entire country, which is usually somewhere in the region of 750.......the tournament begins in October/November, with the most junior teams playing in preliminary rounds...the league one and two professional clubs enter the tournament in the first round proper, and the top two divisions enter in round three proper in early January......its a straight knockout tournament, winner of each game proceeds on to the next round, loser is eliminated. There is no seeding, a draw is made for each round of the tournament, and anyone can play anyone..so if a lower league team (say a local village team)get drawn against Manchester United, they might get to go and play at Old Trafford in front of a crowd of 70,000, or alternatively, if Liverpool were to get drawn against our local village team, they could get to go and play on what amounts to a local park in front of 400 people and a dog........(ok I exaggerate bit there, but you get the idea...) the tournament is no respecter of persons, and many's the time the little guys have beaten the big guys....(we British love a spot of Giant-killing, and we always support the underdog!!!) The FA cup itself is considered the most important trophy to win after the Premier league title....The ultimate achievement was always seen as being the team who wins both the premier league title AND the FA Cup in the same season(known as doing the double).........
He left out one team in the South East that has come on big time since having American Express as a sponsor, the team is in the Town, oops, now a City that they have their UK HQ. The team is the 'Seagulls' - Brighton and Hove Albion. I hope you understood more than I did, he didn't even pause to breath, he spoke almost as fast as the T&C's are said at the end of a radio commercial. He needs some elocution lessons, pronto.
Congratulations on the 19 years, I've forgotten what that anniversary is. Hear's to the next🍾🥂
The World Cup is a competition between National teams - eg. England, Scotland, USA, Germany, Brazil etc. It is played every 4 years and this year is the year where it will be played in Qatar from November 10th thru December 18th.
League Cup and FA Cup are knockout annual trophies. First Division (Tier 1) is representative of the top league, out of 4, names have changed over the years, currently the top division is now called the Premier League, this is the league tables where each team plays all other teams twice a year, home and away. European trophies are a combination of mini leagues and knockouts, but entry to them is only possible by being highly placed the previous year in that country's domestic top tier. Over the years the Euro competitions have had many names, but the biggest on is currently the European Champion's League, formerly known as the European Cup. Both England and Scotland have a separate domestic set up, of 4 divisions, names have changed, and Scotland, like England currently Tier 1 is called the Premier League. So, Tier 1 to 4 competitions are league tables, like conferences in the NFL. Cups are knockout competitions totally separate from the Tiers, so you can be good in one and not the other. The nearest to NFL in this situation would be as if the Play Offs were a thing separate to Conference standings. European Cup competitions are a level above the domestic cups, and I do not think the NFL has anything to compare, but it would be like having the best international American Football teams competing against each other, but unlike "soccer", US Football isn't of a high enough standard outside of the US, not even Canada, which is as close as it gets, so such a competition would be lacking competitiveness. A Derby game is a local rivalry, where 2 or more teams have a close and long-standing rivalry, in the NFL you could look at Dallas Cowboys and NY Giants, although not local, are conference rivals who have a deep dislike of each other. Some derbys are not local, such as Crystal Palace (London) and Brighton and Hove Albion (South Coast), but most are.
Your commentator said that there were 2 teams in Birmingham, actually in th earea are Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) and West Bromwich Albion (the 'Baggies'). These two along with Aston Villa were among the twelve founding members of the Football League which is the basic structural organisation of the game in England along with the FA (Football Association). The League system is the structure of all contries who playu the game but the number of divisions may vary.. Originally in England there were 4 divisions of approximately 24 teams in each. However the top 22 teams broke away in the 1990s and formed the Premier league, but still as part of the structure, The second division became the 'Championship' and the others became Div. 1 and Div. 2. and there is still relegation and promotion between all divisions.
As a Sunderland fan though. I would say our fans are the best.
Just want to say that the pinnacle trophy for any club to win (outside of their own country's top league) is the Champions league (there are other European club trophies but this is the big one) This takes usually the top 4 or 5 teams from select top divisions in Europe at the end of their season, pits them against each other in a tournament and whichever team comes out on top are the CLUB Champions of Europe (it's actually a lot more complicated than that but that's the gist lol) When it comes to countries the World cup tournament is obviously the pinnacle and countries have to qualify for the World cup it's not open to all. Just like to add that previously, if a club wins 5 Champions league trophies they get to keep the trophy permanently as oppose to handing it back. Now the trophy is permanently the property of Uefa and a club winning 5 Champions leagues get a badge. The last club to get to keep the trophy permanently?......Liverpool 😁
Newcastle United have won a European Trophy, the Fairs Cup, this became the UEFA Cup and then the UEFA Europa League.
Yes, you need to watch that video.
A derby is a game played between two teams from the same city or from the same geographical region/area. These games are very important for clubs and fanbases because of the huge rivalries they host. I am not exaggerating when I say that the atmosphere and the importance in these matches are just like the ones at the Superbowl. We say that a win in the derby can heal a season of hell.
I am an Inter fan, one of the two big team of Milan, Italy (many foreigners call us Inter Milan but we in Italy just say Inter whilst Milan is how we call AC Milan) and you can feel derby's atmosphere building up since 2 or 3 weeks prior to the match itself even if it's comparable to a normal American "regular season" game, even more if it's a huge event like a Champions League game, for example in the last decade we experienced two Champions League finals Between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid and a Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate (the two teams of Buenos Aires) which were huge events.
We can say that a derby is the peak of the rivalry between two sides of a city, one of the greatest things you can experience in derbies are tifos that fans display when the players enter the pitch, however there would be so many things to talk about speaking of derbies, especially because every city and team has different social, political and cultural backgrounds and because European's but also South American's concept of football is more like a religion.
I suggest you to watch this two videos to get a glimpse of the atmosphere you have in games like these:

Yep no mention of any of the 12 London teams ⚒
Looking good in Liverpool top. Season ticket holder here. YNWA!!!!
League titles is winning top division.
League cup and FA cup are knockout competitions where your opponants are drawn out of a bag so you could play a big team in top division or a lower league team.
European cup is comp between all the qualifying teams from most of the leagues in europe (pinacle of success)
Europa league/UEFA cup is a second level european comp with similar structure to european cup.
Forgot to mention, to play in these big european competitions, you have to finish in the top so many positions in the top league or win one of the knockout comps (League cup/FA cup)
Hi Ladies, the World Cup is for National teams only, the European competitions enable top club teams from each countries top leagues, to compete. The F.A. Cup, League Cup & Charity Shield are top trophy`s for club teams who participate in the English Leagues. There are other Trophy`s for teams from Non-League to compete in. Although they are also allowed to compete against the Top teams, in the F.A. Cup through extended qualification.
For professional leagues here is the Premier League, the Championship, League 1, league 2, and the the National league in descending order. Wrexham are in the national league. They have a large number of supported for a fifth tier team, but not overall.
My mother was born near Wrexham and supported them. My father was born in Oldham who established an unfortunate record last year by becoming the first former premier league team to drop into the fifth tier.
Manchester United have the highest average attendance - over 72k in 2021-22. No one else is abover 60k.
As a Welshman, I like to see all the Welsh clubs do well. I have more of an affinity for Swansea than Cardiff, even though I live closer to Cardiff. This is for, reasons.
A derby is game between two teams that are close together generally in the same city, I’m a Liverpool fan and our derby is Everton but we also have rivalry's against the likes of Man Utd.
The name derby for a local game started when lord Stanley the earl of derby who sponsored horse racing wanted to branch out and sponsor a football game . As lord Stanley lived in a place called knowsley at knowsley hall he sponsored his biggest local game for maximum exposure. That game was Everton v Liverpool since then all local football matches have become known as a derby .
That is good too know Chris. I am a blue nose and I live not too far from Lord Derby's estate. Stanley Park is named after Lord Derby's family name.
@@anthonyscott4270 And if you know your history 😄
@@chrissanders1027 As a blue I can say that even though trophy wise other teams have left us behind one thing we can be proud of is this. Of all the football teams in all countries Everton were among the 12 teams that formed the first League in world. Now that's History. COYBs.
Ice hockey's Stanley Cup is named for the same family.
@@billspencer9430 Thanks Bill.
There are football teams in practically every town. Where I live there's Brentwood Town and 4 or 5 miles away Billericay Town. They are something like a dozen levels below the Champions League with teams like Liverpool and Manchester United.
There’s also a lot of local football teams. There’s a football pitch and regular games at the “stadium” up my road (it’s actually a big football pitch with a small attached pub for people that are watching matches) these usually consist of the general area they’re from. So for example if you’re from Ashton-under-lyne there’s probably a team called Ashton F.C and even small local teams for the places in that town
There are 92 Teams in the top 4 divisions of the Football League - 20 Premier League & 24 each in the Championship, League 1 & League 2
The Domestic Cups.
League Cup: When you win your division, like being the AFC or NFC champs
FA Cup: A competition that is a knockout format that involves every club in England and Wales.
There are other domestic competitions but i'm to removed to know what they're called
The international Cups:
World Cup: Held every four years in different locations around the world. This is a Country level comp, ie: England vs France oe USA vs Mexico. A very big deal to decide which country is the best in the world.
UEFA and European Cups: Comps that are played on a home and away knockout basis between the top ranked clubs from every country in Europe.
Champions? League: The league (the highest level one) winners from each country in Europe play in a separate league (like a normal domestic league) to detemine the best club team in Europe.
All of these comps are played concurrently
Also, each country has it's own leagues and comps, I just have some knowledge of Englands - fun Royal fact, Prince William is head of the England and Wales Football Association (The FA)
Yay girls, Liverpool FC have a great history - even tragedy - and are one of the most successful English teams! Good team to pick; even though our local rivals (Everton) - the teams always come together in times of trouble - totally reflecting the personality of the city! My team since the 80s; great team, legendary players! P.S. Love your shows for your enthusiasm, humility and generosity - real fan of you too! 🤟⚽
Charlton Athletic!!! We currently play in league one (3rd level) but we have been in the Premier league as recently as the mid 2000s and we once had the biggest club stadium in the country, we also are the only set of fans to have formed a political party, this was to campaign to get our stadium back after we had to leave it for 7 years.
I heard a rumour Charlton had a fan, never thought I'd meet him though.
Happy meeting anniversary ❤ Liverpool are my team in the last couple of years we’ve won everything its possible to win FA Cup, League Cup, PL and Charmpions League, Super cup and World Club Cup.
Premier League is the top British league, championship, league 1, 2 3 then 1,000’s of non league clubs.
In Ted Lasso, Richmond started season 1 in the PL, got relegated to the Championship in the season 2. By the end, they got promoted . The upcoming Season 3 is back into the premier league.
Hi to you both. My team is Chelsea, in London (although I live in Scotland now). We are currently the world club champions, but it doesn’t make us the best team in the world, only that we won that competition. As you may have seen from some of the comments, some local rivalries (or derbies, when they play each other) are fiercely contested by fans and teams alike! I think the most hated team would probably be at a more local level. You msy find out much more about Premier League teams in the US now as more clubs get American owners. Chelsea were taken over by Todd Boehly (LA Dodgers and others) this last summer.
The teams with the biggest attendances are Manchester United , Arsenal , Liverpool, West Ham , Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Chelsea, etc which are all Premier League teams.
Man Utd regularly have 75, 000 spectators for home matches.
Clubs in the bottom tier about 6,000.
