The older I've gotten, the more I am realizing the _gravity_ of the situation as Eggman is actively trying to make Sonic fall to the center of the Earth. In Unleashed, Sonic has the odds impossibly stacked up against him, on a platform plummeting at terminal velocity towards the earth's blistering core, with Eggman coming down with him to ensure that Sonic goes down and _only_ down, to remove any sliver of a chance for him to survive the same way he survived falling from space. To ensure this, he actively ensures Sonic's doom by _repeatedly_ destroying the platform Sonic stands on giving him that sliver of a chance to survive. Not only that, but Sonic is in his Werehog form, a form that he has only gotten the chance to use during a few days! He cannot use the boost, nor his speed, not that it would've helped him as the platform(s) he is standing on is only a few metres in radius (which is interesting to note since the first platform probably was that small on purpose by Eggman, which means he might've planned it). No, Sonic has to use the immense power that comes with the form to figure out a way to find any weak points in Eggmans newest mech: the Ultra-Hyper-Prototype-1, or the Egg Dragoon as the rest of us have called it, a mech created using years of research on Sonic to be able to counter him in every possible way and finally kill him. This scenario is just so cool damn it!
And in the final QTE, Eggman is audibly panicked in a way we _never_ hear from him elsewhere. Not simply anger at his destroyed machine, but utter _terror_ at the primal rage being unleashed
*Always remember!* If you're skydiving and your parachute won't work, try to listen to/imagine this song... You will feel confident and will be ready to impact with the ground
I've always loved the intensity of this song. Because not only this is the only boss in the game where you get to fight Eggman as the Werehog, but it also kinda symbolizes his desperation in anger as if he's saying: "I've had it loosing to you everytime, I'm going to kill you."
It’s also the final boss before the true final boss Dark Gaia shows up. Unlike Dark Gaia spawns, similar to Sonic The Werehog vs Eggman, this is the only time where Sonic fights Dark Gaia in his normal form.
This is probably why Unleashed is my favorite Sonic game. Jason Griffith in my opinion was the perfect voice. He's able to give off a friendly vibe but honestly I think he's the only one who is able to yell with a sonic voice. Probably my favorite part is when eggman has enough of sonic and destroys the falling platform. Sonic goes into a free fall after the egg dragoon while saying "j-jeez eggman! Simmer down" Not once has sonic told eggman to ever calm. He is usually a cocky smartass but that line as well as eggmans threats make the situation movie quality.
Considering you're both fighting on a large rock plummeting to the center of the earth at high speed all whilst both are throwing everything they have at each other. Yeah, Eggman ain't fucking around this time.
And what makes this fight cool is that Sonic could have finished that fight off just as easily with his speed. But since he was in his Werehog form where his speed stat was pretty much a dumpstat and his strength was the shining star, he had to not only rely on brute force but he also had to use his quick wits to keep up with Dr. Eggman or he would have been done for.
@@kylepalmer3251 The right joycon on the Nintendo switch has an unhealthy habit to drift sometimes, fortunately there some guides online that can resolve this.

"Blast you, Sonic!" "Grrh! Out of my sight!" "Wing units, deploy!" "You were lucky, Sonic. But luck can't last forever." "W-Wha- Lost control *again?!* Don't fall apart on me now!"
I still can't get over how amazing and badass this fight is. The music, the fact that you're falling to the center of the earth's core while fighting your biggest rival. In all the Sonic games I've played, this is the most determinded I've ever seen Eggman to kill Sonic, and the closest he's ever gotten to putting him down for good. The stakes are so high and it makes this fight so good. overall this game is honestly one of my favorites that I've played.
@@prayingkabutops1392 Anger doesn't mean more dangerous. He was always calm and collected in SA2, and came the closest to eliminating Sonic once and for all. If anything, his anger in Unleashed is from sitting on his ass the majority of the game and expecting things to proceed as planned instead of actually doing them. It's why in Star Wars the Empire is considered a force to be reckoned with while the First Order just looks like a bunch of kids mad about their toys getting stolen.
Happens after this fight but I think this game is the only time Sonic ever felt the need to tell someone to run away cause he thought he couldn't win. Hits different when the cockiest person seems scared
Remember when egg man litteraly pointed a gun at amy’s Head and threatened to kill her if sonic didn’t give him the emerald while tricking him by making sonic think that fake emerald was actually the real emerald but tricking him into a pod, launching him into space,AND BLOWING HIM UP!
@@gotovyse9433 Heres how I think it could happen. He enters it the same way he entered it in Sonic Forces and the Sonic Unleashed version of the theme plays. He attacks with rocks from his Forces fight, ice from his Generations fight, summoning robots from his Unleashed fight, shooting bullets from all of his fights, shoots a drill from all of his fights, and uses some new attacks like shooting lasers out of the green weak point, shooting a black hole, turning his cannon into an arm to grab you like in the opening to Sonic Unleashed(Except this time he crushes you and makes you dizzy), uses a wrecking ball from his first fight with Sonic, and throws bombs at you. If you decrease his health by half, he breaks the arena your standing on and you have to jump on falling platforms. But his drill can destroy platforms and some platforms have something unique. Either they could break 5 seconds after you land on one, immediately break, shoot projectiles at you, and just be a normal platform.

@@idk-mk2pj No joke, you reminded me of "When I feel the ground shaking under my feet and see plumes of dust rising and rubble tumbling and aliens running for their lives, yeah, I get a bad feeling"
I think this game was only the second time Eggman actually tried to thoughtfully kill Sonic. Adventure 2, he sent Sonic out in a capsule to implode in space and this one... well he brings you down to the core of the planet
Let this song remind you that in the past, Eggman was hellbent on destroying Sonic by any means necessary and taking over the planet, consequences (sometimes) be damned. He woke up a millennial God destined to end the world when awakened just to fulfill those purposes. This mech was a "prototype" to fight Sonic with that needed that power. Of course, Werehog or no, Sonic is still the embodiment of chaos. So it's unlikely he would have lost to Eggman if he were back in his normal form then.
Tbf his entire plan was in Jeapordy and he just about had enough of sonics interference. He probably just completed off what he could on the machine got up of his fat disco chair and went "fuck it lets kill the bastard.
@@infinite6339 I mean, he couldn't really _wait_ for Sonic to fix the world. Sonic was mere minutes away from putting the last continent in place, so he kinda had to deal with Sonic now, whether he was ready or not.
I had no major issues playing and finishing Unleashed, but lag was unforgiving in such stages like Eggmanland. I just wish PS4 was backwards compatible with PS3 games. Alternatively, I'd wish for a Unleashed remaster on the PS4. It was a good game - one I'm willing to play again. Also, I am playing the Wii version.
Imagine this: Eggman in Smash The new music added includes Egg Dragoon (Unleashed version fucking please) and his stage is literally the platform from this boss fight, and you fight your opponent all while falling all the way to the earth's core.
I wish that would happen. I can see Eggman as a likely DLC but I don't think they will use this place as a stage (even if I would freaking love it). It still bothers me that they included the Generations version of Rooftop Run instead of the (superior) Unleashed version.
The unironic fact that people call the Generations version better than this one despite the Generations version missing a few instruments, notes, and all around sounding more dull astounds me :V
0:03 Sonic:That lit up part on the bottom looks fishy, I'll try aiming for that. Dr. Eggman: Ugh he knows my weak spot so quickly, Jesus he's fast at thinking.
I feel this track didn’t get the proper use it deserves, this track is by far one of the best boss themes in sonic history and the setting sets the track up perfectly, but then the boss is....ehhh? Your opinion may vary but I think the awesomeness was somewhat gimped by the boss. THEN sonic generations comes along with a (in my opinion) much more appropriate boss fight but the track is watered down immensely but I guess you can’t have it all, still a phenomenal track regardless
This song was intense because of the situation. Eggman and Sonic are both on a platform falling to the Earth's core. Generations version was watered down because the situation wasn't as intense.
@@dumblittleidiot1301 not only that, eggman was completely focused on killing sonic in this one, with his leftover sanity dwindling and his options fading. in generations, he still had the time eater left, and was thus not quite so desperate.
The song is a banger although the boss is pretty easy. An explanation I have for it being easy is that Eggman built the Egg Dragoon to be the ultimate mech against Sonic and kill him once and for all so he probably built the weapons and defence mechanisms to work against regular Sonic, however, because of the events of the final act, he confronts Werehog Sonic instead, whose abilities are vastly different from regular Sonic's, so he loses fairly easy because the robot wasn't built for that situation. I don't think the developers actually went that far in the lore of the Egg Dragoon while designing the boss fight but it's cool to see it this way.
God song makes me want to set up my 360 again just to play Unleashed. I played the disc to death and then bought a digital version, but I didn't get that far into it. Might be time to remedy that.
I thought when I was younger, that Eggman was also possessed with the hatred and despair from the Dark Gaia energy... But then again, he has always been this wicked when it comes to what he wants in the past...
The violins screeching implies that he is finally *unreachable.* He is at the verge of losing his humanity, and tearing apart the Earth is only the beginning of what he'd do to get rid of Sonic. It's more sinister than Dark Gaia itself. At this point, *Sonic should've stopped this cycle of hatred and chaos.* He played around with Eggman too much, letting get away time and time again... Toying with Eggman's emotions and motivations. Now, He is the reason why the Earth was split apart, and if you think about it... places that were caught in the middle of the split plates probably caused millions of fatalities.... Sonic lives on the edge, and to keep this feeling of adventure and excitement, he uses Eggman like a puppet for his strings. Still to this day, Sonic doesn't care about what his feelings, inner demons or issues to make him do these kinds of horrible acts of evil. In the end, he doesn't think of Eggman as a human, with thoughts, personal conflicts and pain. *He is the true villain for the danger he put the world in.*
This boss fight was a joke compared to the stage this boss lived in the stage was a nightmare but the true horror that took me SO many attempts was the Dark Gaia...it was like something so much different from this Eggman robot it was hilarious! Its been years since I played this game but I STILL remember Eggmanland and how wicked that stage was TO THIS DAY!
My opinion on the egg dragoon.... Hell ya! It’s a solid 10 outta 10! Reason being 1. The music, and 2. How it works, it’s starts out with you beating the green circle like your parents beat you when you were 8. And then you jump around on that mech! Fun I have to say.

I've always loved the intensity of this song. Because not only this is the only boss in the game where you get to fight Eggman as the Werehog, but it also kinda symbolizes his desperation in anger as if he's saying:
"I've had it loosing to you everytime, I'm going to kill you."
Simmer down"
Not once has sonic told eggman to ever calm. He is usually a cocky smartass but that line as well as eggmans threats make the situation movie quality.
Considering you're both fighting on a large rock plummeting to the center of the earth at high speed all whilst both are throwing everything they have at each other.
Yeah, Eggman ain't fucking around this time.
eggman actually wanted to kill sonic this is the only the only boss fight which shows the true intensity of there rivavally

In all the Sonic games I've played, this is the most determinded I've ever seen Eggman to kill Sonic, and the closest he's ever gotten to putting him down for good. The stakes are so high and it makes this fight so good. overall this game is honestly one of my favorites that I've played.

@@AkameGaKillfan777 Yeah, but in this one he's enraged and bloodthirsty compared to adventure 2 where he was calm.

NO THE CONTROLS WON'T RESPOND!

Or Free Riders
Let this song remind you that in the past, Eggman was hellbent on destroying Sonic by any means necessary and taking over the planet, consequences (sometimes) be damned. He woke up a millennial God destined to end the world when awakened just to fulfill those purposes. This mech was a "prototype" to fight Sonic with that needed that power.
Of course, Werehog or no, Sonic is still the embodiment of chaos. So it's unlikely he would have lost to Eggman if he were back in his normal form then.
Actually, from what I heard, the Egg Dragoon was designed to be invincible to Sonic's attacks. Of course though, that backfired on him.

An absolute IDIOT ps now is so trash! I got kicked out of sonic generations three times in a row while fighting the egg dragoon there ironically
Imagine this: Eggman in Smash
The new music added includes Egg Dragoon (Unleashed version fucking please)
and his stage is literally the platform from this boss fight, and you fight your opponent all while falling all the way to the earth's core.
That is so bad ass
I wish that would happen. I can see Eggman as a likely DLC but I don't think they will use this place as a stage (even if I would freaking love it). It still bothers me that they included the Generations version of Rooftop Run instead of the (superior) Unleashed version.
wouldn't have minded a stage where you still had to dodge egg dragoon attacks every now and then as a stage hazard.

The generations track is missing the backing violins that add a /lot/ of menace to the song.
1.25x speed sounds like tea kettles whistling

@@Shantae1188 yea, kinda
