This short lesson clarified a language point that I was struggling to remember by focusing on the two most common forms of the verb.
That's great!! Gracias por decirme 😊
In Spain we will said “la fiesta estuvo bien” o “la fiesta fue buena/buenísima”. We won’t said “la fiesta estuvo buena/buenísima”. Meaning the adjective “bueno/a” is always after the verb “ser”, whereas the adverb “bien” is place after the verb “estar”. That’s a key difference between the Spanish from Spain and Latinamerican Spanish.
Great note, thanks!
what is the big difference in Fue or Estuvo when talking about events in the past?
Yeh surely you could say ‘el festival fue brilliante’ why would this be ‘estuvo ?
I’m surely confused now 😊
@johnmiller3970 Fue means went, estuvo means was. It's the difference between saying the party "went" well, vs that the party "was" good.
Love your channel. Your explanations are very easy to follow. I just wanted to point out one thing (as an English teacher, sorry!). In two videos you said "it's necessary to know which part plays each of these tenses", but it should be "it's necessary to know which part each of these tenses plays". Just so you know for when your channel blows up!
Thank you Bryan
Very good, clear and concise: subscribed!
Thank you! You just took my Spanish to another level
I loved that lesson. So clear with great examples
PROFE, what is the difference in, como fue la fiesta, o como estuvo la fiesta? I'm confused because I'm from gringolandia.
Hola Maria, you did a great job at simplifying it but I would need to look at the video again a few times to really get it !!! Muchas gracias por esta leccion.
Hola Luc! Mira el video cuantas veces lo necesites. We learn through repetition :)
Muchas gracias! Siempre he odiado estuvo jaja
Un gran trabajo Maria 💯👍🏼👍🏼
Gracias
este tema es muy bien. No sabi la diferencia ante este leccion. Muchas gracias
Me alegra mucho que te guste!
La casa estaba muy vieja - this is a characteristics. To me it should be La casa fue vieja, same like for the present tense: La casa es vieja.
If I accidentally said "El carro estaba en el parqueadera por dos horas", what would it be understood to mean? Would it change the meaning, or would it just be a grammatical error and be understood the same as if estuvo was used?
It seems like there's no difference in Fue or Estuvo when talking about events in the past. I know that one is Ser and one is estar but both are preterite past. I Don't see specific time frames either???
Hey John! I have another video on Era vs Fue that you might find useful. ua-cam.com/video/oTv82QsIMmU/v-deo.html
Even as a German i could follow your explanations as there are only a few German teachers here who can do this in a short and understandable way.
Really good video, explained very clear. Thank you
Gracias por tu comentario, Vicky. Lo aprecio mucho ♥
Thank you
A helpful review. Thanks.
De nada! :)
Muchas gracias, aprendí mucho.
Excellent help
I came across your shorts a few weeks ago and found them super helpful even though they were brief! I love how much you explain and how thoroughly in such a short amount of time - 8 minutes instead of 20!
Definitely subscribing. Thank you for all you do!
Hey Josiah! I really appreciate that you took the time to let me know this. Thank you so much!
Very clear, thank you.
Thank you for watching :)
Hola, gracias. He visto tu video, pero tengo una pregunta. En mi libro ´gramática de uso del español´ para el DELE C1, tengo la siguiente duda:. - ¿Por qué no viniste ayer? - Estuvé o estaba (?) mala. Me dolía mucho la cabeza. Yo había escrito 'estuvé' porque es un pasado terminado, pero la respuesta correcta es 'estaba'. ¿Ambos pueden ser correctos? Gracias de antemano. :)
Hola Mariá, Cómo está Ud. A question please: Both the below sentences means same: 1. La fiesta fue buena ; 2. La fiesta estuve buena? Por favor ayudarme......
You're the best!
Thank you!!
At 0:01 "La fiesta fue buena."
At 2:48 "La casa era vieja."
In mí opinión sería mejor hacer estos videos en español para que gente vaya acostumbradandose más a escucharlo.
Estoy un poco confundido. Cual es la diferencia de significado entre estas frases y cual usarias para expresar lo que quieres decir?....La fiesta ayer fue buena vs La fiesta ayer estuvo beuna? o La fiesta era buena vs La fiesta estaba buena?
I need help understanding the difference between habia, hubo, era, fue, estaba, estuvo. Don't they mean was or were. Very confused.
You can find videos for all these verbs in our channel! ♥
Just watched he era/fue also video so my head is spinning. Don't understand yet the difference between fue and estuvo for an event. But these videos are very useful and clear, other than that :).
I was told that when describing things, we use era.
La casa era muy viejo..
Now I’m confused haha
Now confused again after watching fue/era and now estaba/estuvo. You used events like a partido de fútbol and a película in both videos. So which is it? La fiesta fue buenísima. Or La fiesta estuvo buenísima. Same event indefinido but what's the difference in meaning? Estoy confundido 😢
"Ayer esa casa estaba arruinada", aquí es específica la palabra 'ayer' y por eso el Español es difícil, ¿cómo se puede explicar eso? 😭
I am an Indian and i am learning Spanish. Your videos really help me to learn it .
Lots of love to you 💞💞
I think you’re a great teacher and I love your videos and I trust you obviously know what you’re talking about and I’m trying to study this lesson now on my own by making practice sentences and I like to use Google translate to check my answers but when I put in the party was fun, the concert was incredible, etc, it uses fue for all of them and I was wondering if you could tell me why? Is it wrong?
Este video es muy útil. Gracias!
La casa ESTABA vieja? Not "era vieja"?
Just like Russian verb cases that I'm currently learning, interesting. 😀
That's very interesting!
I'm confused. I just watched your video on fue vs era and you have the exact same description, and examples, of using fue to describe events as estuvo....what is the difference, or did I just not get it 😊... thx
Hi Jonathan! Estaba and estuvo are the past and preterite of (Estar) and Era/Fue are the past and preterite of (Ser)
Remember they're both verb TO BE in English, it's just that we have two, and the two are used in different situations and NOT interchengeably.
I'd recommend go back to basics - Ser VS Estar :) hope this helped!
When you want to say the meal was good, would you say estaba delicioso, or estuvo delicioso? Which is more common in spain? in méxico?
I only know from my experience with Colombians, but recently after finishing the meal (within a few hours of, or even within the same 24 hours in some cases) it’s more common to use estuvo… but if you ask someone for example, how their food was at a restaurant on the weekend, and it’s now Wednesday, they use estaba… but also I think in Spain they just use estaba for this type of situation, no matter how much time has passed since finishing… I’m not native though so don’t take my word as gospel 😂
This is great!! Yes!!
@@danwhiffenfs gracias!
So in sentence "yo estaba molesta" could change to estuvo if I put the time?
Sí! Sería "Yo estuve molesta --- "
¡Aye Dios Mio! No hemos tocado evento fui
Great lesson… learning usage rules really helps… gracias
De nada! Me alegra que lo encuentres útil.
Hola Maria! i like this episode about estaba and estuve. i really like to master when to use fue vs era and estuve and estaba. sometimes i missue fue and estuve since they are both pretirite and same goes with estaba and era. im trying to look for a technique or quick guide to remember so i can be confident which one to use.hope you get to read my comment and give me more tips :)
muchas gracias!
Hey Aaron! Thank you for watching our video. My tip would be to not overthink it too much and just use it as much as possible. You will get use to them eventually :)
I also have a video on Era vs Fue for explanations! -ua-cam.com/video/oTv82QsIMmU/v-deo.html
Hello mam...i watched your last video of era and fue...in that you told we use fue for events...and in this video you have told,we can use estuve for events...can we use both interchangeably.... could you plz clear my doubt...
Thank in advance 😊
Hello Aakash!
Estaba and Estuvo are two forms in past for the verb "Estar"
Era and Fue are two forms in the past for the verb "Ser".
Both "Ser" and "Estar" are the verb "to be" in Spanish.
You can use both "Fue" and "Estuvo" to talk about events :)
@@LingoMasterySpanish muchas gracias por esta hermosa respuesta😊
Thank you whatever your name is
Your lesson really clarified for me my past confusion on the use of estaba and estuvo. I really appreciated this lesson.
I have always learned fue for events
You're great. The lessons are logical and on-topic. I love the editing, too.
Buena leccion ❤
Muchas gracias, las palabras no pueden describir lo maravillosa que eres como un maestra

🤩🤩🤩
Very precise and excellent presentation, I love it.....
Thank you 🥺
I have just watched you for thr first time on your lesson on Estaba and estuvo I found it very helpful so thank you but I found it a little hard to keep up with as with most spanish you told a little to fast for us elderly english , but thank you
Hi Stuart. I’m elderly and find that slowing the video down is very helpful. Just go to that symbol on the top right of your screen ( the crinkly tyre icon) and you can easily change the speed of the presentation. Perfecto!
This helped me better than spanish class did, thank you
Glad I could help, thanks for your comment ♥
Loved your clear comments, very helpful. Gracias
Me alegra que te gustara!
Do you have a video on fue and era?

Why does every video you share to give example in this particular video all have negative views when a Black person is in it? "His shirt was dirty" "I wasn't single when I met you" "I was mad at him for 2 days" but the White people have positive connotations?
Hey! I would have to re-watch all of our videos to check, but I’ll take your word for it. Not intentional at all, I’ll keep an eye on it 🤍☀️
