Lucía, every time I watch this video (only on the 4th time now--the last time taking 40 minutes to watch), I notice something that I've missed and I learn something new! If I watch 4 more times (at least), I will be speaking like Ricardo Montalban! The sign of a good teacher is knowing the subject material well. The sign of a great teacher is knowing how to present the subject material well. Lucía...the GREAT teacher!
Thanks for the great summary video. English: walk / walked / will walk / going to walk / could walk / used to walk / hope to walk Spanish: Here’s a spreadsheet with 600 conjugations 😂 and I’m still refusing to learn the subjunctive.
There are also: am walking / was walking / have walked / have been walking / had walked / had been walking / will be walking / will have walked / will have been walking
it is all explained very clearly and well. that doesn’t make it easy. imagine 20 tenses for each verb, times the number of verbs, then add in the irregular verbs. the numbers are impressive. yes, there are commonalities but to be proficient is a daunting task. and then add a few thousand vocabulary words….and then, the difference between literal language and the language that is actually spoken, uish
I think learning full sentences will help a lot! So you already know phrases to use in each situation and you'll learn the tenses and the vocabulary in context 😊 When you get more used to Spanish, learning more tenses and more vocabulary will get easier 😄
Learning each verb tense one at a time helps a lot. Brute force learning all the tenses for one verb at a time won't work. Learning one tense at a time lets you focus on the pattern and absorb it. I can use the simple present and the present continuous as I focused my time on picking up those. Since Spanish also is a pronoun-drop language, learning those tenses is crucial.
I don't think it's necessary to learn every tense in detail, especially when just beginning to learn Spanish. There are only a few that are used in everyday speech. In a Spanish learning video on another channel the commentator recommended concentrating on only 5 specific tenses when starting out; the present, the subjunctive, the preterite, the imperfect, and the conditional.
Estupenda! Bravo! Is the progressive considered a separate tense? Presente Progresivo: Estamos Hablando Pasado Progresivo: Estaba Hablando Perfecto Presente Progresivo: He Estado Hablando Pasado Presente Progresivo: Había Estado Hablando
¡Hola! En español, el "progresivo" no es un tiempo verbal. En sintaxis, lo analizamos como "perífrasis verbal", pero no pertenece a ningún tiempo. Es simplemente "Estar + gerundio".
In Sevilla a native said that my Castillano is good, thanks to you. Even if I could only speak in present tense... This is a rather heavy load to process, but your work is invaluable!
Ooh that's great!! I'm very glad my videos could help 😍 keep working on that 👏🏼👏🏼 Thanks for watching my videos 😄😄😄 Little by little you will get used to speak with the different tenses 😊
Thank you so much!! I'm taking Spanish 4 right now and I had no idea how to conjugate because my Spanish 3 teacher taught me nothing about subjunctive, imperfect, etc.
The only time I have ever encountered the future subjunctive is when I was looking into my family history and I would read the wills of my ancestors in central America: “ en este mío testamento, dejo mi vaca Cleotilde junto con cualquier prole que llegare a producir a mi hijo Antonio.” Outside of that, I have never heard it being used in speech nor have I ever used it in all of my life either. How strange. You would think we would make use of it. We don’t though.
¡Lucía! Muchísimas gracias. He aprendido casi todas los tiempos de verbos pero los ejemplos son requete útiles y me han ayudado mucho. 👍🏻😊 ¡Tú eres una crack!
How are you always able to jam such intense and meaningful knowledge in such short videos? It takes my college Spanish professors weeks to relay that much information...where do I sign up for your classes???
Hola your breakdown of Spanish verb tenses was super helpful! The clear examples made everything click, and the free PDF you mentioned is a fantastic bonus. Thanks for making Spanish grammar so much easier to grasp! Looking forward to more of your videos. Keep it up! 🚀📚
In Latinamerican countries, "Pretérito Perfecto Compuesto" is used as "Present Perfect" in English. I mean, it uses to describe events without a specific time.
Thank you so much for your video! I have been studying Spanish for 3 years and still struggle with some of the tenses. But this video has been super helpful! ❤
Hola Lucia, really appreciate this lesson, you explained these tenses in a way that makes sense! Just one I thing you might have missed is the negative imperative - such as ‘don’t speak to me’; isn’t that done using ‘no’ + ‘subjective present’, for example: ¡Habla español! ¡No hables inglés! for tu? Some of the tenses are really confusing for English people learning Spanish, but thanks for the examples 😊
I am a french speaker and i eeally notice that these 2 languages are a lot alike!!!! In french there are also these tenses. Its much easier for french speakers to learn spanish. Thank you so much what a great teacher i love your channel please continue❤❤❤
I think there is mistake on 22:45 [preterito perfecto compuesto] because you had said "haya hablado" is "have spoken" but in this part you have written and translate as a "had spoken" normally I think should be "have spoken" thank you ıt is great video!!
This video is one to watch several times, not only is there a lot of information to take in , pero ¡ tu hermosa sonrisa y tus ojos brillantes son muy llamativos! De la mejor manera posible . 😁
Wow! More information and better structure than my college classes. Now that I have a roadmap, I can try to make sense of all the lesser used tenses...and that past timeline was amazing!! One PDF coming m way right now!
Thank you so much this is great! Can you tell me what "Preterito perfecto compuesto del subjuntivo" is used for? That's the only one you didn't say how it's used. How is it different to "Preterito imperfecto del subjuntivo"? Thank you 😁
¡Hola! 👋 Muchas gracias por él vídeo. On the famous (or infamous?) owl app you also see for example: Ella va a viajar a México Is this a latin american thing? Is it even a tense form? Gracias y lindos saludos desde Austria
"Ir a + infinitivo" is not really a verb tense, but a formula made by the verb IR plus the preposition A plus the infinitive of a verb. In Spain we use it a lot 😄👍🏼👍🏼 Voy a ir, vamos a cantar, van a dormir...
🥲 Little by little! 💪🏼 Just learn the basic ones first (Presente, Pretérito perfecto simple, pretérito imperfecto y futuro, de indicativo) and add more when you feel you're ready 😊👍🏼
Cual seria la diferencia práctica entre "Ya he comido" y "Ya comí" si la pregunta es "Comiste hoy?". Cuando los españoles usan más la forma "haber", en latinoamerica tendemos a usar más el pasado simple. Cual es la diferencia entonces?
Future tense is used in Argentina. Ir + a + infinitive is simply more common in everyday speech. Majority of Latin American dialects show that preference. Your comment on Argentine punctuality is relatable though 😂
For a pity I dont understand the advanced english tenses and use the basic because in my native russian language we are haven`t tenses more then past, present and future. I understand more tenses in Eglish intuitively but not use them. Thus I dont understand your explanation when it compared with english. I should ask ai pararellely with reading your pdf
I feel you bro even tho i understand English tenses now (still find it hard to use some of them) i still find them very weired, why all these tenses in arabic we have past, present, future (a present tense with a prefix) and imperative mood thats it, if we want to convey deeper meaning we add some context and use facial expressions. And they say Arabic is hard😬
You never have to be “perfect” at verb conjugation (unless you plan on teaching the Spanish language or being a translator). Many native speakers struggle with the subtleties of various aspects of choosing between tenses. Just focus on conjugating correctly (even if you pick the wrong tense), and make sure you differentiate between past/present/future (even if you accidentally select the wrong version of past/present/future) and you will be easily understood. Spend lots of time listening to native speakers and you’ll develop an “instinct”.
…also, from personal experience living in a Spanish speaking country and learning by immersion, if your priority is speaking with people focus on your pronunciation. When I was learning I was in a program with other students of three different levels of Spanish. I started in the lowest level, but the locals all told me I spoke “better Spanish” than most of the advanced because my pronunciation was clear to them making me easily understood.
I know a little Spanish and I don't think there is a word for "we" in Spanish that does not involve gender. Use "nosotros" for a group of males or a mixed group of males and females, and "nosotras" for a group of all females.
Please change the background. Aside from the taste issue, it also interferes with comprehension. Bright and spots..just get a white of pastel monotone background, wo people could focus on material 😮 ah ..never mind...the content itself is just a salad from a book and helps with nothing at all

Indeed, but we've got 600+ irregular verbs in English so you couldnt spreadsheet that if you wanted to.
There are also:
am walking / was walking / have walked / have been walking / had walked / had been walking / will be walking / will have walked / will have been walking
