I have dove with the Great Barracuda countless times my whole life. Only once did a coda intimidate me into saying “ok, it’s your territory”. And yeah, he was BIG. And right in my face and wouldn’t back down. They usually do. Ha ha. Human attacks on divers other than their speared fish is extremely rare. And they certainly aren’t “man eaters

I saw one when visiting Key West. It was just right there in the shallow water right off the beach. It didn't move. Just floated there. My mind didn't perceive it as real. It looked like something you'd see hanging on a wall. I watched for a few moments, knew I'd likely not make it back in time, but ran to get my camera. Yeah, it was gone. But I will never forget that...maybe 4 - 5 foot barracuda right there in front of me.

Okay my friend I don't mean to sound argumentative! But I grew up in the Florida Keys and the backcountry in the early sixties until 69! My mother caught a seven and a half but male barracuda was tail waited on blood at 214 lb in 1967! And to this day there are still reports of huge silver barracuda lurking around as I have friends that still live in the Keys! I assure you these are not tails! As I commented on another video that's the only fish that scares The Living Daylights out of me! I have an attack of multiple times by the time I left the area in 69 so is my father and my mother they are a frightening fish and they don't care what they beat on! Divers beware!!! Thank you for the trip down memory lane as scary as it was

Back in 2015 i was spearfishing mainly for the barracuda..I was wearing a Champion dive glass.. you know those with the round face with the shiny strip of metal around it.. a great barracuda rushed me unexpectedly out of nowhere and grab the mask on my face.. it's teeth dug my forehead, cheeks and chin.. i tried grabbing it in the gills.. when it let go I fired my speargun wildly and shot it in it's sides. I was already bleeding a lot. Good thing it happened in shallow waters. My buddy who saw what happened grab my backline and we headed for the shore and he dragged in the Cuda. We ate him a week later 😅

Indeed an Interesting as well as Potentially a Very Dangerous fish
In 1992 off coasted Nassau Island and less then 65 feet down
    I with another..an 6.5 to 7 foot long Barracuda
    Swam unQuicly on me..
At time i thought it funny..
Mistakenly thinking it Only hunted in schools ( which apparently is perhaps only done as a juvenilals )
Quickly raised my disposable underwater camra..taking a picture
( flash went off..barracuda not liking the intense light..and it just as quickly swam away)
Years later..a friend confirmed how it's under belly brown stripe changing markings was in fact Predatory attack mode ( with me in its sites)
Well my friend thought me crazy upon our getting to the surface again
    Though
I have a decent story and picture from it all

Never caught a Barracuda, but the most aggressive and violent fish I've ever caught was the fresh water Chain Pike....go to just about any lake in late fall in NC, wait for the water to calm to glass just at dusk, and toss a floating lure out. Just let it sit a few minutes until the water calms again, and give a few very slight twitches......
The adrenaline rush is incredible as the water explodes, and you're in for a fight as this fish has to be a close cousin of the Barracuda....ugly nasty looking alien fish!!

A barracuda, unlike man, just hunts to feed itself as it was designed to do, like a cheetah or leopard. But I suppose many really stupid people like to place human monikers on animals, especially those who have a slim outside chance of actually biting a human. Just the way it is
