It never occurred to me before but I suppose entire ad breaks were telecined live at that time. Is that gate weave or just loss of sync in the Southern ident? I suppose it would make sense if that too was telecined to air.
@@rotonda4068 Filmed material used to be televised direct from film by pointing a TV camera at a projected image Telecine is what you call that. It was far cheaper (at the time) and better quality than copying the film to videotape and then broadcasting from the tape. The Southern logo wobbles about at the beginning of each ad break and I'm wondering if that's a fault if video syncing or the film being projected weaving about in the protector gate.
@@martoto77 Simple answer. The sync pulse for the VCRs servos during recording takes its sync pulse from the incoming CVBS broadcast signal. If the video is cut on broadcast, to another signal. The VCR servos would loose lock and produce the effect seen on playback.

It's not that bad provided you don't swallow it. If you don't dilute it though, the throat does get a bit raw. I've never found it that useful though anyway. Tend to get better results from other things.
@@80ssynthfan48still don’t fancy it, TCP was for cut knees. You could always tell if someone had fell in school when you smelled TCP, does anyone still use it these days?

Lovely times and only 3 channels.

Could you explain that in layman's terms?

@@martinpotter8139 Incidentally. I can't ever remember seeing a film break or a picture fault during an ad break. Only ever during a programme.
@@martoto77 Only shows on a VCR recording. The TV's of the era would not show any problem.

4:11 I have never gargled with TCP, it sounds bloody disgusting! 🤢
10:56 adverts just aren’t as glamorous as that anymore.
