Blimey! First time I've rewatched a full episode of Basil Brush since, well, since they were first broadcast. Perhaps not quite as funny as I remember them, but then I was about 8 years old at the time. Thanks for sharing.
I used to watch this with parents, I would have been 8 when this one went out. Still funny. Has to be the TV puppet with the most personality by miles. Good voice actor, brilliant. Happy simple days.
I speak very clear Received Pronunciation, and I'm convinced that this is down to the acres of time I spent in my formative years watching Basil Brush.
Thank you so much for uploading this. I used to watch this when I was a little girl with my parents. Basil brush was massive here in Australia and I loved him so much. It's obvious now that most of the humour went over my head because I was so young. I'm so glad I got to watch this is an adult and I have never laughed harder
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha BOOM BOOM Love 🦊 Basils laugh Thank God for the BBC I’m across the pond in the states and I’m hooked on the programming from the BBC great programs especially the old shows 😊
Well I'm English & I was 10 when this was broadcast & I agree with half of what you said. They *DID* create marvelous TV programs but now it's unwatchable woke shite IMHO.
Oh I love Basil Brush. I was so excited the year I got a big Basil Brush to sit on my bed. I had him for years and years. Not quite sure what happened to him though. All I know is Basil went everywhere with me for a long time. This brought back some great memories. TFS.
Absolutely! This was the era of childrens tv and great entertainment on Saturday night. With incredibly high viewing figures. I utterly loved Basil Brush...so, so funny in a gentle and very English way. You 100% bought into it, that he was more or less real. This is the show I remember, prime time BBC1. And Doctor Who next, that would be Tom Baker in his Key to Time season as its 1978. I wonder which episode it was that followed this? And after Doctor Who it would be The Generation Game...1978 again so it would be Larry Grayson. Then it would be the Two Ronnies or something similar, followed by either Kojak or Starsky and Hutch from the USA. Late night Parky and Match of the Day. I would have been seven or eight when this went out. Basil ran for many years like this. When he was not on it was Jim'l Fix It...yikes! Still at the time we thought it was all wonderful...
I saw Basil Brush live in Wellington NZ in the 1970s with my sister. We liked it but there were too many song and dance acts in between appearances of Basil Brush, which were too few.
you just made this 70's American edition gen X kid VERY happy! I woulda watched the crap out of this if it was on PBS. has it always been in the variety show/skit format?
Hey daryl Somers this dedicated to you my favourite hey hey hey host always keep drumming away here in the land of the living lots of love from Melinda
Who else had a plasticene Basil Brush shape that you stick clothes on and stick eyes, nose and tail into? One way to stick it to Basil, haha-haa-haaa-haaaa-haaaaa🦊😈
Thank-you so much for this childhood gem when Baz was Baz. I have always adored Basil Brush & very much still do. It's just so sad that TV has become unwatchable woke drivel these days. Mind you, I guess the downward spiral began with reality TV & then the awful feminazis took over & well; here we are.

Indeed! The same for me. I am in my 60s loved this program with Mr Derek I believe that was in late 60s early 70s
I love that expression, "acres of time!" I haven't heard it "in Ages," or should I say, "Donkey's Years?" 😀
@@colindoherty1891 Yes, the great Derek Fowlds of Yes Minister fame 😁

Used to love Basil Brush and I remembered that some jokes were 'near the knuckle' as they used to say.
Don't know how I got here, but we are both so glad I did.
Rewatching (I was 12) this favourite explains so much of my humour😂😂😂❤

Ivan Owen - an absolute gentleman. Thank you, Ivan.
Yes. Trying to find a photo of him online.
I remember Basil brush..... when this episode was was shown in 1978 I would have been six years old....
Actually, Basil is very impressive. His movements coordinate perfectly and naturally with what he says.
Er... You do know he was the hand and voice, don't you?
How dare you@@ianoliver3879
No he wasn't!
There's elements of Basil Brush's character that the American ventriloquist Jeff Dunham uses with his puppets. Especially Peanut.
Between Basil Brush and Agro my childhood humour was hilarious I'm so grateful for it😂😂 boom boom ❤🙏🇦🇺
Loved Basil Brush
I was 6 then, loved Basil Brush 😂❤
Aww OG Basil brush is cute

I’m an American and this is my first time seeing the show and I must say; more comedy variety shows need puppets
Still entertaining all generations. Basil has just done a Panto run at the Theatre Royal in Windsor.
Great as he is, there's still a little bit of me wishing Basil would hurry it up a bit as Doctor Who's on next. 🙂
That's so true!

They said never get surprises in Devizes which is Wiltshire but then they say they love Somerset.
The Wurzels were also great.
ha ha ha HA HA HA HA HA! BOOM! BOOM!
What were the creatives smoking when they pitched this show to the BBC executives?
Modern shows look like the work of the 'Goons' from the film 'The Gamma People'.
How very dare you!! The Fox rules!!
