For the love of god blizz don't make another Elemental Lariat, where only the few souls lucky enough to get the pattern to drop made millions and millions of gold while everyone else got the shaft.

I really like your idea of reducing the differentiation between Q4 and Q5 and not having Q5 guaranteed outside of concentration.

I really hope professions are better in the next expansion. I was really looking forward to the DF revamp, but I soon discovered it was incredible hard to level, and nothing I knew was worth making and selling, and there was never a work order for a pattern I knew. I heard that NPCs will be putting up work orders in the next expansion, so hopefully it will be better.

Gotta say, I REALLY REALLY like that Q4 and Q5 same main stats and ilvl, but Q5 gives additional tertiary stats idea. That sounds like a great idea!

    So...where to start.
    1. Concentration is basically Artisan Mettle not bound to a weekly quest - which you are sort of reintroducing in your proposal. Using "less or more" is basically just illustrious insight vs. lesser illustrious insight, maybe with a few more options - but applicable to all crafts.
    2. New inspiration is essentially just resourcefulness exclusively for artisan's mettle.
Not sure that "new system" will fundamentally change anything.
    Quality:
Potions/Flasks - just have quality dictate their duration rather than effectiveness like for phial of quick hands does today. Maybe a 20 minute flask can work in an M+, but in a raid you want the extra 10 minutes from max rank, so that you use less of them overall. Will that ultimately just make it so that cost that R3 flasks costs 30% more if it lasts 30% longer? Probably. It will mean that R1 and R2 aren't almost immediately "Dead on Arrival" though. There might still be a use-case for them even well after folks can almost guarantee R3.
Gear - there is no real winning here. Even a tertiary stat is character power folks will want. You would have to go something like durability/indestructible, or tertiaries that don't work in instanced content (m+, pvp, raids), or things only useful in open-world (e.g. mount speed, herb speed, mine speed, indestructible, swim speed).
Materials - not sure here. Maybe quality of materials influences how many you need instead of item difficulty/rank. R1 materials very quickly became completely worthless. R2 was only useful because of low skill threshholds and/or gaming inspiration. Maybe just add in vendorable items. I know they don't like shuffles, but right now
    Work Orders:
Public work orders should have quality. Just cap it at max-1. They could do this now.
Otherwise your proposal is what we have today. I can guarantee R5 with an insight or in the future with enough concentration. Either way the consumer won't know what I have available on hand, so the short coming is in the interface (you cannot accept orders unless you can guarantee it without mettle and/or concentration).
    KP:
They need to get rid of dragon shard of knowledge. Normalize the rate at which players gain KP. Differentiation will be in which paths you take first and level out at the end where everyone is max on everything. This was abused fairly early by those in the "know".
Get rid of rep based KP sources. The profession shuffle for Consortiuum rep was heavily abused giving folks almost an entire node's head start.
Reduce the weekly chores. They took all the character power chores and dumped all of them on professions. The quests weren't too bad but the rng drops and rng treasures/dirt were particularly egregious. Especially at launch when everyone is doing them. It took 30-60 miuntes depending on luck per pair of professions and then multiplied by the number of toons necessary to max out every profession at least once (which every goblin worth their salt will do). You could argue this is a player created problem, sure, but I don't want an hour worth of chores period grinding out some stupid treasure or class of mob - at the very least make that 100% drop once per week.
    General:
Lastly - one major fix you could do is just stop making everything soulbound!!! You could just let the market help dictate some of this stuff. Maybe I don't want R5 (unlikely), maybe it's worth buying R4 and finding a crafter to upgrade to R5 later (because it's cheaper or I don't need immediately), stuff like this.
Make the AH cross-realm for everything.
Give us a way to upgrade old PvP gear or old gear of AH. How many helms did it take to hit 75? How many were throw away items either because they couldn't be upgraded, or required a souldbound reagent, or just wasn't worth the effort of grinding out the soulbound reagent and then placing an order an then waiting for it to be fulfilled, when a WQ could solve it almost from day 1.

I would guess the example of using a ton of concentration to go from Q3 to Q4 is just there to reinforce the idea that you can only go up to the next tier; it doesn't seem like you would ever be able to go from a Q3 craft to a Q5 with just concentration, it'll just toggle whether or not you want to bump it up a single tier by concentrating.

  • @Cam-vc8ns

I'm slightly worried at the prospect of setting a fixed price to guarantee Q5 with Concentration, but the requester submits low quality mats requiring a much larger Concentration usage than expected. Even if I charged more for using lower quality mats due to needing more Concentration, I will overall be losing more Concentration that limits further work and profits. This might lead to cases of crafters never doing crafts without max quality mats provided to minimise Concentration loss.
Also risks of recrafts that even with max quality mats in the recraft, if they initially crafted with lower quality mats then the overall skill level needed will be higher and need more Concentration; which the crafter won't know about until receiving the work order; making the exact Concentration needed for recrafts unknown and price setting difficult.
I just dread trying to explain this to requesters that I need to charge more (or even refuse to craft) due to excessive Concentration needed than expected; explaining Inspiration was worse enough.

As a crafter that feels like I've cornered the overall market on my realm, I really hope that concentration is NOT by warband but by character so that my hard work scraping up every last knowledge point and finding/purchasing all needed recipes first pays off again in the next expansion.

Would love to see a way to use the excessive amount of mettle on gatherers. And possibly add crafting for guild with lower costs, and have customers add a portion of their own mettles on crafting goods. Btw, thx for all the great info on profs :)

On the work orders I'd also like it if they inverted the cost to time relationship. I feel like it should cost more for a short term work order request, to incentivize patience with lower posting costs.

It seems like concentration use should be something that really requires thought and planning, rather than a regular occurrence. Capping the amount of benefit seems prudent; someone who can just barely make q4 being able to choose to make q5 seems wrong. Also agree that making q5 more of a prestige (or vanity?) item is a good idea. They should be pretty rare, especially at first, and it should take a lot of investment on the crafter's part to be able to make them.

Blizz needs to always sit down and have serious thought of "how is the player base going to abuse this?" .. because they do and will.
Your ratio of one player dominating seems true. DF felt like a heavy time and gold sink but not really fun. A slog mostly. I've crafted a few pieces for few thousand gold but no where near what it took to get leveled.
The tier 5 stuff could be unique equipped. Maybe 2 or 3 pieces. Just an ilvl and stat buff. Nothing crazy but still worth using concentration for it.

With the WoW crest gear upgrade system now being well intrenched in all means of gear acquisition, perhaps Blizzard should now align crafted gear with the crest upgrade system as well. Why not have crafted gear have the same five ranks as the other sources of gear ( i.e.. Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero). Players could supplement the crafted gear upgrades with crests like they do with every other piece of gear in the game.

  • @Rylos277

Hot take, Q4 is already perfectly acceptable. Especially at the start of a season. Admittedly I will try to upgrade it sometime later to Q5 but the few ilvl dif really isn't worth crying over

the thing i really dislike about the crafting system still is that there are things that you can be fully speced into have all 3 star mats and still not be able to lock in a max rank craft. The main issue is that nobody who is getting stuff crafted wants a 1 2 3 or 4 star craft they all want max craft whether its potions, phials, or gear. If I have fully invested into something as a crafter I should be able to lock in my customer in for a max rank craft no matter the item.

No matter what it is raid, arena or m+ it's a race. Even 1 stat may define whether you win or lose. Why should somebody accept anything less then max quality?

  • @averykristian
    @averykristian 2 місяці тому

Hey Manthieus. I came across an concern recetly and wanted to ask you directly about this. Wow has a big problem with most all crafting items it's cheaper just to buy from the AH than to craft it yourself. I assume this is because the AH is ALWAYS flooded with the item because people have used it to level their crafting. Why can't wow fix this and how would they fix it?

    • @Manthieus
      @Manthieus  Місяць тому +1

It can be because of many reasons, but honestly I do not believe that Blizzard sees it as a problem. Wider and easier access to items is only a net possitive for nearly all players. It is tougher to make gold via professions, but still not impossible.

    • @averykristian

@@Manthieus That actually makes sense. As a crafter though, in wow and ffxiv etc, i love to be able to save money crafting things myself, but it has never worked in WOW. Frustrating.
