I stopped using FB about 5 years ago, because I found that it was actually making me sad.
Once I put away FB, my mood got a lot better, and I'm rarely sad. 😉

I deactivated my Facebook and am deleting it for good soon and it’s life changing. I found it sad but funny that when I made my post announcing it and offering my phone number to anyone who wants it, people chose to say “thanks for the memories, I’ll miss you” acting like I was dying!!! It was such a waste of time and energy and my mental health is better

@@chuckhines459 that is so true! Most of the people on Facebook including old high school and college classmates and friends on it, are incredibly selfish attention-whores. That's not including social climbers.
Since the time I joined Facebook going on 10 years ago, I automatically felt ostracized by so-called friends from high school. Originally, I joined Facebook mostly to get in contact with my old high school crush/secret admirer and a few friends to let them know I wasn't going to our 10-year reunion.
I deactivated my Facebook account at least 3 or 4 t times. If I didn't have important social media contacts, I would leave Facebook again. I'm trapped with that site because it's the only way to get in contact with my book publisher and certain friends.
Otherwise, there are too many rude, selfish, divisive, immature, and disrespectful people and pretentious showoffs on Facebook from all walks of life.

Yep !! Everything you’re saying is right on point. The final Facebook straw for me was when my niece posted a happy birthday to her 80 yr old grandma( My mom ) on Facebook last May and almost a year later my niece still hasn’t called or visited her ( My niece lives about 10 minutes down the road from her grandma )to see how’s she’s doing . The kicker is my mom does NOT have a Facebook account and never has . It was all for likes and nothing more . I tried the whole Facebook thing for a year and that was my limit .Never again!

I deleted my Facebook last week. a week ago right now actually. I think it is great, I love how I don't have to live life this way anymore. I agree with everything in this video, very nicely said. People always have to "shoutout" people publicly, they have to post pics of everytime to they go out to eat, whenever they go to church, and it seems to be all for likes and attention. Striving for that type of attention is toxic to our mental health because it is addicting and it was meant to be addicting.

So far I've gone 11 days without logging into Facebook or any other of the social media I use (UA-cam is the exception because I use it to watch educational/documentary videos and I don't use it like I do other social media), and it has been such a blessing to disconnect! I was using social media on average between 2-4 hours a day before I began my detox and it was so eye-opening to realize just how much time I was wasting on these platforms. Not only that, but I was really starting to lose my sense of self trying to keep up with updating people on my life and making an effort to maintain mostly superficial relationships with the vast majority of my friends/followers. It really is true that most of your followers on social media really will not be concerned about what is going on in your life. During my detox I've only communicated with my immediate family and close friends - while there aren't many of them, these are the people I know who genuinely take interest in keeping up with me and that I absolutely don't need social media to communicate with them. With that being said, I've made it a goal to go at least 30 days without it, but knowing how amazing I feel not using it, I'm going to stay off for as long as I possibly can!

This video was very helpful to me. Your reasons are almost the exact reasons I decided to quit recently. Nobody wants to talk, all they want to do is post stuff, and they don't care anything about the stuff you post, only what they post. I signed up for FB right after I retired 6 years ago, I thought it would be a good way to continue with some human contact since I was no longer working, but it has been a bust. Hardly anyone on my friends list (mostly people I know) would ever like what I post, seldom did they ever share any of my post, and seldom did they ever talk. So I finally got tired of being ignored and I'm just not doing anything on it. I'm keeping it because it's a good way for my sister to contact if anything is wrong or she needs something but I unfriended half the people I have on there who never ever talk to me, the rest are family and one or two friends who do talk to me. Kind of hurtful when people ignore you. So I will consider FB a failure for me, it did not live up to my expectations.

Love this video. You absolutely hit the nail on the head with it. I quit social media last year after 9 years of being on it and having a decline in mental health. I noticed a massive change after a month of being off it and now for the first time in probably about 6 or 7 years I am free of depression and anxiety. I don't even miss it and never once have I regretted my decision to quit it all completely.

I'm glad my parents aren't like that. I'm in a verge of deleting it for good but since I live in a different country it's the only way I connect with family. Deactivating from time to time, it feels So good

Great video. I agree with you whole heartedly. I’m 26 and just deleted my Facebook today, for good. Been slowly weaning off social media over the past few years when I had the realization that this isn’t how life should be lived. It’s really been amazing to observe how over time, as you gradually decrease usage, you start to view social media with a different perspective. I want to spend my time adding more good to the world, which I think it needs most of right now. Take care

  • @bobbmann5

I quit Facebook 10 days ago and i did Weather Forecasts there as a Hobby. I had 1,084 “So called” Friends. Well after leaving, only 4 people out of 1,084 asked if i was Okay. So it shows me that most 99.1% do not give a rats 🐀 behind if i dropped dead etc. I have left before, and stupidly returned about 5 times in the past 3 years, but this one is the REAL deal and I’ll wait another week or so, but as you’ve said. No one cares. I am enjoying my time more away from the stress of fb and i don’t plan on ever returning this time. I’ll keep the messenger just solely for family but that’s it. I also quit twitter after being there sine 2008 and only one out of several hundred asked if i was okay. So, social media is FAKE, full of depressed people and as i suffer from depression and anxiety myself. It’s the best choice I’ve made in quite a while. Have a great day! Thanks for your video. -Bob

I really like this video. I do like youtube for the most part. I connected with a lot of the things you touched on. Facebook is cheap communication. I have been addicted to it so bad to the point it gives me anxiety. I check for likes, hearts, and notifications. If people don't like my post, I feel left out. But then when someone does like my post, it gives me a high. It shouldn't be that way. But Facebook invented it that way.
So I'm trying hard now to not go on facebook very much. And you are right. Why are we posting all these things about someone when we can just give them a call? I think it's to get attention and get likes. Facebook is not a means to an end. It's a never ending platform designed to keep you coming back, checking for likes. It's not real life, but unfortunately it's how a lot of people live. They care about likes and artificial stuff. We have to take a step back and ask ourselves why we invest time into things like this. Your video is very informative!

Just found your video and I totally agree with you on this. Never used facebook though - OK, once about 14 years ago for like 3 days and I just did not like it. I was a twitter user for over 4 and a half years and it was fun at the beginning, but in 2020 I have taken many detox months to recharge from it and it was great. In that time I was able to focus on things that mattered and I was generally happier. After reconnecting to it and facing the same amount of social anxiety I quickly realised that the problem is in the system itself... have deleted it completely just at the beginning of January 2021 and I don't even miss it! And you are right about people not caring... they don't, and I bet they don't even realise that you were gone from the platform. I have left a long message myself if they wanna reach me they can... no one bothered, and that was a reassurance that I have done the right thing and based on your story and experience, so did you! :)

The reason why I'm here is because I also deleted all of my social media 1 month and 2 weeks ago. I even have this feeling of going back but everytime I go back I always get bored and just deactivate it again after 5 Minutes. I kept my messenger only for people I care about. I felt relax and less anxious. It's the hardest at first but once you get through it you wouldn't even think of going back. Facebook for me is also the hardest. Facebook and making UA-cam videos just isn’t for me abd by next fall everyone that knows about my Facebook and or UA-cam videos will see a new me. A me that realizes my limitations and isn’t trying to exspect herself to do it the right way. If it’s bad for those that do it the right way it’s bad for Asperger’s syndrome disorder people and if my family doesn’t exspect me to adapt niether should I. ChrisBliss117 you should try neurofeedback therapy, it’s been helping me greatly with my cognitive short comings- each day it feels a little easier. But I mean if that’s the worst of it for you now, I’d call that a win for real. Are you still teaching?

~I deleted my account 2.3 years ago as I said to myself~what is this proving and why am I here?~there was no answer and I just deleted it~I will never regret it as the downloads they gave me I found out that I was a part of that Cambridge Analytic scheme~and also they never gave me the more current posts I wrote on there as I had so many words of wisdom and poems I wrote while being there~all I can say is that one day real son we will not know what a facebook is as we do not know of a myspace now as well~

I've been on fb since I think 2009-10sh and i actually plan on deleting it soon. for a few reasons 1. out of my 70 something friends or ''friends'' only 2 talk to me. and 2 it's making me idk how to word this but a like wannabe. like when I post something if I don't get any likes I delete it cause it makes me feel like no one cares about me. but I do agree with you like why post happy mothers day on FB? why not just call her and tell her.

Deleted FB from my phone and tablet a couple of years ago. Recently deactivated on my laptop. Concerned about personal privacy. Can't stand Zuckerberg. Hope to delete the app altogether by year's end.

FB blew up in 2006-07....I refused to use it, I finally conformed in late 2008...then I deleted it in 2010.....my only regret was making a facebook for those 2 years......I wish I never even used it so I didn't have any memories of it

I post a lot of deep science stuff about covid, politics and what not. Articles that take time to think about and read, which I know won't get many 'likes' because no one gives a shit 😅

Thanks I needed this, I'm quitting because I just got another 30 ban for making a joke about living in squalor, between all my accounts I've been in Facebook fascist jail over 18 months in the last year.
I will not have my speech infringed on by the Joseph Gerbils at Facebook.

I did not even think of things you thought of! Thank you for sharing! Everything you said is true!
I however needed Facebook because I was depressed out of my mind. It actually helped with the depression.
