I traded my manual 997.1 Carrera S in 2011 for a brand new 997.2 GTS PDK - well optioned. I added the SharkWerks centre by-pass exhaust and Zunsport grills. This car is a keeper! It is a dream to use as a daily driver and occassional visit to a track. I would absolutely recommend it as the best of the last pure Porsche 911 range for general use...
I love my 2012 Turbo!. I think it will hold its value, and I like the 3.8 vs the new smaller motor. Mine is white with red interior, and I am adding some Carbon Fiber pieces now. Center lock wheels of course.
I am a big fan of the last air cooled 911, the 993 but it's literally quite impossible to purchase at a reasonable price. Thus, I came upon the 997 Carrera S (the 1st ones shown with the 'Lobster Fork' wheels) and fell in love a second time. Now I don't own any car and won't be owning one in the foreseeable future, I think. But if money wasn't that big of an issue and I had to have a 911, it'd be that Carrera S
Nice evolution review! IMO, the 997 is the best looking 911. Ok, I could be biased lol. The 930 is beautiful but can look dated with the black rubber. The 964 is just an updated modernized 930. The 993 is straight from the 959 look which is awesome. The 996 was a new look but the fried egg headlights and dated interior killed it (I still like the 996). So that leaves us with the 997. It's like Porsche took what they learned from all the predecessor and refined the 997 and of course you have the 991, 992 which are bigger and more luxurious cars. Design wise, the 997 to me, is the most balanced, most refined, traditional 911 lines, true to the original form in designs.
I’ve had an O9 997.2s pdk. Meteor grey and black interior. Sold last year in feb. now I have an 06 997 base manual and love it. Lacking the power. But it’s awesome in the canyon
997 back to true form for sure.. I'm still a fan of the 996.2 myself especially the low production 2004 Targa model. Yes it's heavier but has the sliding glass roof and my favorite part the rear glass opens up..
my 997 is an 09 .2 6 speed in jet black with the full tech art kit on it, with twin sports exhausts either side instead of the ugly shaped single ones. black 20" rims with pilot sport cup2 tyres. it began life in the uk, & imported here to nz at around 8,000ks..now 77ks.
Currently have a .1 c4S 3.8 cabriolet. Love it. Ideal car would be the RS4.0 but they will be priced out of the market. Might do an engine rebuild and drop some nickes in to make it a 4.0
Factory optioned x51 they say was the way to go yet it doesn't seem like there are many out there, with the brakes that must be fairly rare I would think (No expert) very very nice car bro 👍
Wow! Just an Outstanding review, Thank You. 👍 For me the Ideal 911 isn't exactly produced. It would be the 2011 997.2/911 Carrera GTS as you like but with the true Targa like the 991. You see I was blessed enough to have owned an 85 Carrera Targa but life, children, college funds choices moved her on to another owner in 1998. So while I love the new 991/911 Targa I would prefer it as a 997 GTS body. So Given reality of choices... the GTS has to be my choice. Ha-ha, in my dreams. Thanks again for the outstanding overview... it has me dreaming again. Cheers!
Well if your gping to force me to pick one. Its going to Be the GT3 rd 4.0 might as well choose the best. Or build a bigger garage and pick up a few of them.
it would be a 997 gt3.... i was saving up for a 997 turbo manual but i saw 997 gt3 are selling for almost the same and i need it as a dedicated track car and would rarely use it on the road (may be driving it to the track day)
i love my 997.1 4s and i will never sell it maybe i will buy 991 a gt3 or a 997 turbo but i will never sell my 4s 997 it is the best car ever . most reliable sports car in the world
Are all of the 997s rear engine? I saw a 997 Targa video that said (did not show) it was a mid-engine. Maintenance costs on mid-engines are way more, no?
No mention of 997.2 turbo dropping the mezger engine? I think the perfect 997 would have been a mezger + PDK combo. The .2 looks so much better but the .1 has the better engine.
I was the 600th subscriber ... does that mean I win a Porsche 600? Oh, they don't make a Porsche 600! I'll just have to subscribe so I remember to remind you... if they do... 🏁🌫️😎
991 is not a pure Porsche??? Ferdinand Porsche was the first chairman of VW... They've always been family. Where do you think they got their turbo tech from?
Love 911's?! Check out this Limited Edition 911 HEART BEAT Tee Shirt! bit.ly/911HeartBeat
Just saying VW Jetta manual transmission.

Thanks to you I just bought a 2009 4S with 136k miles on it. One owner and full dealer maintenance till today! Cheapest on the market haha.
What something like that run pricewise?
I love my 2012 Turbo!. I think it will hold its value, and I like the 3.8 vs the new smaller motor. Mine is white with red interior, and I am adding
some Carbon Fiber pieces now. Center lock wheels of course.
Absolutely agree with you, 997 the last real Porsche 👍🏻
My fav 3.6/3.8 RS
Love my 2011 911 Carrera S Mk II this love story keeps on growing every single time I am behind the wheel ! 😃

besides the OG 930 turbo, the 996.1 & 997 will always be the ones that stick with me the most. Now the 718 is doing it more than the 911s for me.
my 997 is an 09 .2 6 speed in jet black with the full tech art kit on it, with twin sports exhausts either side instead of the ugly shaped single ones. black 20" rims with pilot sport cup2 tyres. it began life in the uk, & imported here to nz at around 8,000ks..now 77ks.
Good video for the 911 newcomer. Expressive eyebrows drove home some key points.
Gotta get the points across... haha
i enjoy my 997.2 turbo s every day. love this car
Currently have a .1 c4S 3.8 cabriolet. Love it. Ideal car would be the RS4.0 but they will be priced out of the market. Might do an engine rebuild and drop some nickes in to make it a 4.0
997.2 turbo S is my favorite needs a few mods in my opinion but not much.
I have 997.2 4s pdk drove it 60k miles and love it daily driver did a bunch of mods everything short of header maybe next
Dreaming and saving for a 2012 turbo S. Great vid!
What’s a good price for this model and year?
'10 997.2 S 6-speed manual Cab here. Black on black. There is no substitute!
Awesome video! I have a 2012 911 997.2 base carrera and never knew that year could be either my model or a 991! Very informative
Cool I actually learnt something here. Wasn’t aware of the sports classic
Love my 997.1 C2S w/ ceramic breaks and x51 powerkit. :)
Factory optioned x51 they say was the way to go yet it doesn't seem like there are many out there, with the brakes that must be fairly rare I would think (No expert) very very nice car bro 👍
2009 997.1 TT CAB 6spd with Tubi Style Race Exhaust System
Great informative video Maybe you could do a similar theme on the 991 (2013-2019) in the near future
Hopefully soon!
Ideal Media can’t wait...
Got a ‘12 c4gts convertible, love that car
I like the one with faulty IMS, to me that’s the best one especially if its a manual...
GT3 RS 4.0. Maybe the best sports car ever built. Pure driving/racing machine.
I would love to drive one. The idea of the 4.0 naturally aspirated motor, is very appealing. Does the RS spoiler come off easily for street driving?
I just got my first 911! It is a 2011 C4S cab six speed. 17K miles. I am thinking its a keeper!
That’s what u said about your first wife
Don't forget that the 997 GT3 RS gen 1 had the carrera 4 shell that was something like 35 mm wider at the rear.
If you had to choose between a 2008 997 turbo and a 2009 997 turbo which would you go with?
2012 911.2 Targa 4S cuz it's my first 911. Great vid very useful👍
Great video much more informed now I just have to watch it again still a little confused.
Nice to know happy New year
I like the GTS and the Black Edition
3:10 Honda Civic type R. I think so because I've driven one myself.
Love my black edition
good vid, but you forgot about the 911 Turbo S "918 spyder edition"
Wow! Just an Outstanding review, Thank You. 👍

RS
2007 GT3 beast mode.
I LOVE 911's, but I'll admit that the *Honda S2000* has the best Manual Gear box out there! Who agrees? 🚗
That's exactly the car I was thinking about when he started the "bet" thing. S2000 and the new Type R have a perfect gearbox, better than the 997
it would be a 997 gt3.... i was saving up for a 997 turbo manual but i saw 997 gt3 are selling for almost the same and i need it as a dedicated track car and would rarely use it on the road (may be driving it to the track day)
Porsche and Corvette are the greatest supercars for the fact that they are unpretentious and obtainable.
991.1 c2s FTW!
thanks for infor....now i know 996 vs 997 vs 991
i love my 997.1 4s and i will never sell it maybe i will buy 991 a gt3 or a 997 turbo but i will never sell my 4s 997 it is the best car ever . most reliable sports car in the world
997.2 base carrera 3.6…….purest🥰
excellent explanation...
Are all of the 997s rear engine? I saw a 997 Targa video that said (did not show) it was a mid-engine. Maintenance costs on mid-engines are way more, no?
S2000 easily has a better stock feel than the 997 6MT. EASILY better.
Yeah it is fantastic!
Thank you for sharing with and illuminating us all, MrFunk. And oh, yeah right.
On the 997 you need to replace the shifter console with a NUMERIC one. That’s a BIG improvement.
No mention of 997.2 turbo dropping the mezger engine? I think the perfect 997 would have been a mezger + PDK combo. The .2 looks so much better but the .1 has the better engine.

So did they offer a 2009 997.2 Turbo with both the Tiptronic and the PDK depending on build date?
Integra Type-R DC2 manual is easily as good, if not better :)
Question! When and why did they change the sunroof so it retracted out. Side the roof.
997.2 GT3 🔥🔥💯💯🔥🔥
Thinking about upgrading from 05 987S to 09 911 turbo. Feedback ?
great video
Dream car
Definitely the 997 GT2RS but can’t afford it just yet.
997.1 Gt3 in 3-5 years for me or Gt3RS if I wait quite a bit longer
I own the 997.1 Turbo. I am looking for a upgraded exhaust, so far I like the speedtech. Anyone want to recommend one please do.
good video. mine's a 997.1
997.2 gt3 in black with silver rims, one day
Go Hawks!!
e46 M3 Getrag transmission is equally as good
2012 997.2 turbo s pdk
I think the s2000s transmission feels better stock.
What does the 4S 2011 have of special? Thanks
Sold 991 bought 997.2 nuff said
Okay now I am more confused. Is my 2012 911 4S a 997 or 991???
2006 997 "S", 6 speed
Didnt knew jacksepticeye does car videos.
991 is not a pure Porsche??? Ferdinand Porsche was the first chairman of VW... They've always been family. Where do you think they got their turbo tech from?
911 C2 for me
i still dont know which one will i buy.
I'll take the 997 gts all day
getting 997.2 turbo!!!! lucky me!!!!
9:37 Thats not a 2012 (997) Turbo S that is a 991 Turbo S
1 thing I hate about Porsche's is how god damn confusing their names are

Ah to dream.
Let's see....are you supposed to look like a Samurai or a soccer mom. Loose the bun.
Jess Chris that’s annoying how manmodels and they all look the same. Ie got better stuff to do in life than track Porsche’s moels
