Great video, I'm glad you mentioned the ridiculous levels of traffic along West Carriage Drive because I've complained numerous times to the Royal Parks about it and they seem incredibly reluctant to do anything about it. With the success of the closure of South Carriage Drive, surely it's obvious that that many cars do not belong in a park. It really annoys me that the motorists through here all believe that they have a right to drive through the park, and then get annoyed by the levels of traffic. The Royal Parks need to do more to emphasise that they do not. I also think that there shouldn't be surface car parks in the middle of a park like Hyde Park, it shows how the Royal Parks don't really care about the environment or nature
I don’t live in London or the UK for that matter, but I’m commenting anyway because I love the concept of this channel! Google bike directions are more than useless, and infrastructure in most cities is too patchy to navigate without local knowledge.
I generally cycle Cadogan Sq on to Pont St & over at the lights then just an easier left. Ir i cycle up lower Sloane Street, swing around Sloane Square down towards Buckingham palace but left on Eaton sq and directly up to Harvey Nicks (toilets), the 🚲 entrance to Hyde park & the hilariously posh Waitrose on motcomb st where you can attach your bike to the railings out the front and im not worried about it being stolen! x
@@LondoncycleroutesI don't especially mind busy, swinging around Sloane Square isn't as daunting as it could be. Coming back from Buckingham palace that side bit directly outside Sloane Square tube is as there is tons of changing lanes so no recommended. But from the south & around I find fine. I try avoid the 2 lanes as I still get some anxiety if I'm not fast enough. Straight up & down to the Hyde park gate is fine too. The only bit that gives me anxiety is the kerbs in & out of Hyde park, I can't tell if they are flat 😬 is that just me? Do they need a different design so you know you aren't going to fall x
7:10 the lights are timed for north/south traffic, so you get a 'green wave' there, but the long wait is when you are using east/west C27, which isn't timed as well
Yes, occasionally, the timings don't line up but most of the time it's good for north/south traffic. Personally, I would have gone along Sussex Gardens and up Spring Street to get to Paddington. It's not quite as traffic free as the rest of the route, but it's usually OK
Great video, nice route!👍 "Is it cheeky to call Sloane Square Chelsea?"....the very fact that you asked the question...!! 🤣😉 I was expecting somewhere nearer Chelsea Harbour/World's End Estate , but I'm a northerner living in Dorset...what do i know 🤷♂️😁
Haha I’ve done Chelsea harbour for a couple of vids I think but I’m not sure it’s quite Chelsea either! Maybe it’s nowhere! (Real Chelsea is probably the kings road tbf)
Love your videos. I honestly think you should do bike tours for tourists as you tend to have interesting facts and history of the area as well as finding less intomidating routes.
Of course, if you go just a bit west, onto Palace Green, there is no traffic at all right next to the park. Very pleasant. Also, sometimes you get lucky with lights: I went from Greenwich to Tower Bridge with nary a stop once.
@@Londoncycleroutes Yes but it is a very short hop over to Paddington from the north west corner of the park. Extremely quiet streets if you don't like Bayswater Road - even that is easy to cycle at any time, regardless of the traffic (wide). Hard to believe, but London is a very quiet city beyond the big roads, if you care to look, which you show regularly!
Can you do a route going from archway station in north London down to Tottenham Court Road station pleasee. I’d love to see it, it would be my new route to work 😄😄
Apologies, not on topic for this specific video, but I wanted to draw this to your attention as the Greenway has featured in some of your previous routes: ua-cam.com/video/e-gL1f88Q7o/v-deo.html

Yes agree about the surface car parks - there’s a huge underground one there anyway! And it’s a terrible use of space

Thanks v much! Agree about app directions, they don’t take into account the state of infrastructure on the ground enough or the levels of traffic
12K subscribers! Another great video and I have never heard of a 'horses only' lane before!
yes!! a mini milestone. I've told myself not to make a big thing of anything until 20k but I may be tempted to mention it at 15k

interesting I don't think I've used that way, will check it out! good local knowledge

Yeah I’ve used that route before and it cuts the corner nicely, I probably should route that way

loved it. was literally my first ever cycle route when i moved to london
A good one to be able to do!
Thank you for another great video. Did the SUV make an illegal u-turn on the West Carriage Drive at 6:31?
it looks like it to me

it would be fun honestly! I wish I had the time

Thanks as always Stephen!

Yep that can get you to Notting Hill Gate

That's a jolly nice route considering its the middle of London.
Yeah it’s not bad at all
Ah I did wonder how you were going to make that final right turn. Just dismounting is often quicker and easier
yeah it's a bit of an issue with the design tbh!
Oh hey sun 🌞👋🏽
(Please come back 😅)
I’ve got plenty of footage from this summer still to come so tune in to see more sun through the winter haha

Wow, guess I should've known better - but I'll admit to being genuinely shocked that Hyde Park isn't closed to cars 😳😬🫣
Yeah it’s a pretty busy road through there
Same with Holyrood Park in Edinburgh - madness……
