your path was exactly what i had been struggling with . open after effect mess it up give up. go on youtube bump up to video copilot too many advanced video give up second time. then come back try some travel transition. i'm now not at level can execute what is in my mind but i can work quite comfortably with after effect. still alot of thing to learn. sorry for broken english.

I feel like it's the same for a lot of people! AE's interface can be really confusing for people that are starting out.

which tool or which effect does u use alot? like what are the cores of the program?

Oh there are so many... Turbulent noise / displacement, displacement map, saber, optical glow [paid, by red giant], Mocha tracker and A LOT of other effects :)
