In the video, you here a slightly high-pitched sound thru-out. From what we understand, it is a white-noise machine that the camera mic picked up. We did NOT hear it at all during our stay there; in fact, it fulfilled it's purpose and masked other, unwanted sounds. So don't worry that you'll hear that all day.
If I had an inside cabin I would probably book some sanctuary time. But I personally prefer to have a balcony cabin. I order room service and have my own "private sanctuary "... But that's just me...
Love The Sanctuary! My wife and I book it for all sea days! So relaxing and peaceful! The first thing we do when we board is head to The sanctuary and reserve our spots!
Great to know! I'll definitely want one of those when they are fuller with more children! In December it was just nice to see other humans around the pool, and a couple kids!
We went on the Majestic July 2022 to Alaska. The Hollywood Observatory was lovely and NOT open to the weather, as you mention. There are windows all the way around, which create a light blue tint to your pictures. The tint may bother professionals, but didn’t bother us. There are lounge chairs and cabanas as well as regular seating with tables. Drinks are served; we didn’t eat. We did not reserve a seat, but you may. It was a very nice, quiet area to listen to the naturalist speaking about the glaciers and to watch the calving. Highly recommend!
We did the Sanctuary on Glacier Bay day, the windows did obscure the view some, and it was very cool, but they did give us blankets. We did it because we had an inside room. In the future I wouldn’t do the Sanctuary for a Glacier Bay day.
We were on the Majestic last summer. The naturalists & park rangers were set up with their displays there. I believe it was the only time everyone could wander around there.
Will be booking The Sanctuary for 2-3 days on our Panama Canal cruise, hoping to get it on canal day so will definitely head up there first thing. Will be first time for us using it and looking forward to it. Thanks for this informative video Allison.
@@rondonnabrown944 was supposed to on the Caribbean Princess Ocean to Ocean one March19th but unfortunately tested positive 2 days before on antigen test so had to cancel. Vaccinated and boosted do very mild cold symptoms for a week and then negative - all good now. That cruise actually ended 4 days early in San Francisco, Princess says due to more dry dock days needed. So now waiting for our December 22nd cruise to Hawaii out if LA. Fingers crossed 🤞 everything settled down by then.
I have heard that they do a really special champagne brunch or something like that for glacier bay in the sanctuary. I haven’t done it myself but we heard about it on one of our Alaskan cruises.
We did the sanctuary for glacier bay on a different boat, can’t remember which now, but the sanctuary was located at the front of the boat. It was totally worth it as they bundled you up and kept the hot chocolate flowing. As the boat did it’s turn to let both sides of the ship see the glaciers, we got to see them the entire day. There was also glass just in certain spots and it wasn’t covered. It was a cold day very early in the season but it was the highlight of the trip. It was nice not having to fight people for a view at the railing. I want to say we were in the island princess, but not 100% sure.
FYI - We've been using the Sanctuary for years. However, the pricing is VERY different on the newer ships, for the cabanas. On the Sky and the Enchanted, for example, a cabana is $220/day! MUCH higher than a cabana on Caribbean, although I have to say those cabanas are much nicer. Still, it wouldn't be something I'd book for a whole cruise.
Thanks Allison for posting this video. I felt like I was right there with you. My medallion says I have 62 days until I set sail and I am beyond exited.
@Judy Metoyer Hi Judy, I am so glad you felt like you were right there with us! I am beyond excited for you! I’m pretty sure you are going to love it! Thank you so much!
I was just on the Majestic for the Mexican Riviera cruise (about 2 weeks ago from this comment), and the Hollywood Conservatory was free, but only Platinum and Elite passengers were allowed. The Hollywood Pool Deck (you must go through here to get to the conservatory) is also free. My wife and I didn't have to sign up for anything. I'm not sure how it was on other ships like the Discovery, Sapphire, etc though. It was really nice watching the sailaway from the Hollywood Conservatory.
Really great information Allison will definitely book on our second week of cruise and maybe a day or two on the first week. Thanks so much for the information. I’m wondering is there any other things we need to book or do when we get onboard? I don’t want to miss anything, lol.
We had a terrible experience on our last cruise. No one came by. I had to hunt someone down to order a drink and when we finally got it, it was warm. The food was awful. I didn’t even spend the rest of my time there that day and canceled our other days we had reserved. Only one worth it was on the Alaska cruise
Do you know if the Sanctuary is open on days when at Ports of Call? We are going to be on the Ruby Princess in January & are trying to determine if we should do an excersion.
I was going to book an afternoon in the Sanctuary on a port day when I was not getting off or a sea day. The problem for me is, what the heck do you do once you get there? I'm not very good at sitting in the sun and doing nothing. I get antsy. Ah well, I can try it and see how it goes.
We always got a lounger under the shaded canopy. They have a menu they bring around with slightly different offerings: shrimp, glazed almonds, and such, and then at 3:30-4 in the afternoon, they have sandwiches and scones (English-style). We bring a book, or just an smartphone to play some games and watch the ocean. It's just relaxing to sit there for a bit. You can go swim in the pool and then come back to your spot and dry off/relax. Check the ship's library and there may be some good books. Enjoy!
Thank you for sharing! I need your help; I’m on the island princess Panama Canal cruise very soon and have a few questions. Are there elite benefits for the sanctuary? Are there special rates for the sanctuary on the canal day? Are there rates for sanctuary for entire cruise or all sea days? I have an obstructed view cabin and love the back of the ship. I’m looking for a place to relax in the afternoon on sea days and the canal day. Thank you
Do you have information on the aft facing balconies on Caribbean Princess? Looking at deck 11. Do they have chairs and ottomans? Why do they seem to be the last afts booked? Thank you
Absolutely, yes you can. There is no sign-up/reservation necessary to get in the pool or jacuzzi there. They say adult only, just so that children aren't to swim there. There are other pools where children are allowed and even encouraged to swim. Happy Sailing!
Allison I have a question for you? Is the food u get while u are at the sanctuary include or do u pay more?? I don’t get the pkgs because I don’t drink, but would food or afternoon tea be included in the 20.00 charge for an afternoon? Thank you !
Yes, the food is included. It is a slightly different, more interesting menu. And the tea is different from that menu and also included. Drinks may not be, though. Thanks for watching.
Does the sanctuary have its own pool and jacuzzi? And is there any pools or jacuzzis onboard that have steps to get in and out, I have issues using the ladders
Yes. It is sometimes referred to as the retreat pool. It is not necessary to have a reservation at The Sanctuary to use the pool or jacuzzi. As to getting in and out, there are easy steps into the retreat pool and jacuzzi, with handrails. And for those that have difficulty even with stairs, there is a lift system on some ships; just ask the crew and they are more than willing to help.
We were told that when we were on the Caribbean Princess in mid-January, that they were sailing at 25% capacity, about 800 passengers. It felt like we had the ship to ourselves in many respects. Such a relaxing and enjoyable cruise!
Hi Allison, Do they charge you for each visit you reserve ahead of time at the day of booking? What if you skip a day that you had reserved? Do you still get charged. Would there be a cancellation policy?
@Karen Nelson Hi Karen, If you make a reservation and skip you will be charged anyway. I have never canceled so I don’t know their cancellation policy but I would expect you to have to at least 24 hours notice. I’ll try to find out next time we are onboard!

Hello Allison, I appreciate the Sanctuary footage and have tried to book there before, and it is always booked. I followed you when you booked it on the Embarkation video, and there were only a couple of loungers left, so I was surprised when I actually saw you in the Sanctuary and no one seemed to be in the other reserved spots. So, my question is, do the Sanctuary Cabanas and Loungers automatically get booked by Princess for cruisers who have a certain level of State room?
@Bob Barringer Hi Bob, I don’t know if you can on the Sun Princess, but on the other Princess ships you cannot. It is adults only but can still get crowded. We often either reserve space in the Sanctuary and go swimming some during that time and we often go in the early evening when we are in a nice arm place as it usually isn’t crowded then. I hope this helps.
@Allan Martinez Hi Allan, It just means you take once cruise and then immediately take another cruise and is usually on the same ship. Does that make sense?
It is just below the Sanctuary entrance, so, no, not officially part of the Sanctuary. You do NOT need any reservation to use that pool; it is for adults only, so there should be no children there. We love children, put we also enjoy a relaxing swim. There are towels and you can either walk down from above by the Sanctuary, or enter by going into the Lotus Spa and then turn into the pool.

How much is the sanctuary please
$20 per person for a half day. We felt it was worth it for the quieter location, nicer loungers, special menu, and just a relaxing afternoon. Happy Sailing!
If the Passenger has a Balcony Stateroom couldn't they do the same thing as being on the Sanctuary Room?
@Allan Martinez Hi Allen, You can enjoy your balcony but they don’t have the lovely padded lounge chair and the service of the people who wait on you in the Sanctuary. Having a balcony is absolutely wonderful but it is a different experience. :)

I'm sorry to bother you again Does it cost anything to go to The Sanctuary Room?
It doesn’t sound quiet. ???
From what I can tell, that is a white noise that helps to deaden any other sounds. The camera picks up sound differently from what we heard. We did not hear the sound you hear in the video; it was absolutely delightful, very quiet and peaceful; only the sound of the breeze and the calm ocean.
