Hi Wayne - I’m a big fan of the Gretsches. I’ve had the New Yorker and I still have the Park Avenue. I thought the New Yorker was pretty sweet for it’s price coming in at a little over $200. It was way better than the cheap Hohner I’d started with and seemed to me to be much nicer than a low level Stagg or Rogue. I had the A shaped model with a pickup - I want to say G-9130, but it’s been a while since I had it. I wish I’d have kept it. It’s the only mando I don’t still have because I used it as a trade in when I upgraded to a Loar. But, yeah, I think they’re nice for the $ and wonder why they don’t get a little more love from the mando community.
Thanks. I ran across one with a nice case for 180$ and I grabbed it for my collection. I'm happy with it, it definitely has a better sound and feel then some of my other cheaper mandolins

Hey Neil, I remember a while back you were talking about a Gretsch new Yorker. Are they a descent brand?

Alfred Music Instruction what?! You got something against Mel Bay? Nice work starting with the basics. Rock on Neil.
Thanks much - always fun to hear from you :)

It sure is - good ear! I have a tutorial for it somewhere on my page called “Fun, Easy Irish Mandolin” if you’re interested in learning it :)
