@arishouwing the auto focus is my worry. I’m shopping for a hybrid camera right now and I want 4K 60 with 10bit and Sony seems to be the most reliable with the AF specially the eye AF.
@@TruthMusicStudios For hybrid I wouldn’t go for the sony, the s1h is much better at photography. For video, the sony clearly wins at AF, but the latest firmwares of Panasonic gave us a pretty decent AF performance. But AF, I don’t use it at all when things are really important shooting video.
Hi, Cool review, thanks. S1R shooter here, I use a couple of Sigma 1.4 primes and a couple of Panasonic Zooms (kit 24-100 & the 70-200 2.8). The camera definitely performs better AFC with the native glass for video but for stills there’s barely a noticeable difference between the Sigma DG DN’s at least and the Panasonic’s and they all perform impressively in all AF modes. But I’m not a pro videographer and you would know, it’s a shame the native glass is so expensive or I’d be all out native on this mount. Having said that the Sigma’s L mounts are excellent lenses.

Killer cam, but I feel the price is too high now in comparisson. Especially with the S5 out there and limited variable frame rates (120 4K), limited full frame options. For 2800 with lens this would be the absolute go to.
the 4k60p is not about the data, it is about reading the sensor. you could do like the s1r and read full width, but it would lineskip and that is a soft image, like the 4k120p of the r5. they had the choice of a more high quality crop or a wider softer shot. Since the gh4, they have consistently gone crop except s1r 60p (and maybe the s1r 4k 24/30p is also lineskipped? not sure.
Great video, indeed. Also bought the S1H, being aware of the poor AF-C in video. After shooting for a while in V-Log only to get the hightest dynamic range out of the camera, I needed to switch to cine-like D for some low light shots (V-Log is not really the best choice for low light). And the other day, I incedently figured out that the AF-C in video mode works very (!) good if not shooting in V-Log. I believe the reason behind is that the contrast AF of the S1H just does need to work with the low contrast V-Log signal when shooting in this mode, leading the Af to permanenty seek for what to focus on. From the recent announcement re the upcoming firmware update for the S series from Panasonig they explicetly mention "improved AF when shooting V-Log). I expect they bake some little contrast enhancement piece of SW into the signal path from sensor to AF-C SW.
@CJ Jacobs The firmware update for the SH1 is available by today. I will download and install it tonight, and hopefully it will improve the AF-C in V-Log significantly as promised. This would close the only true gap / weakness of this camera. Everything else is so fantastic.

You're gonna need AF for skateboarding I think. In that sense, Panasonic is out unless you are a master at focus pulling. I think if you go Panny, the S1 is a better option, just for the full size HDMI. They both have great dynamic range.

The S1H does 180FPS but at a musch lower quality. I does ProresRAW at 4K60 with a 1.6 crop. I have since bought the Sony A7sIII, the codecs are a problem for some with weaker computers right now. Most UA-camrs complain about the codecs are cutting on laptops. I think we will se a lot more computers coming out with H.265 acceleration like Apples M1 Macs this year.

The S1H CAN be adapted to EF lenses with a simple $150 adapter (L mount to EF). It’s just like adapting EF lenses to a micro 4/3 body. Don’t know why you don’t know this and complain about the expense of buying L mount lenses??
Hi I have the MC21 adapter. I also used the Canon 24-70 2.8 MKII and Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2 on the S1H and now the S5. However it does not work as well as using native L glas. Especially for video. The point is one has a lot more lenses to choose from if you go for Sony, Nikon or Canon. Also there are a lot of third party cameras that use EF and RF mount so for that reason EF Glass is a lot better investment that L-Mount at the moment.

You're gonna need AF for skateboarding I think. In that sense, Panasonic is out unless you are a master at focus pulling. I think if you go Panny, the S1 is a better option, just for the full size HDMI. They both have great dynamic range.
Thanks for your impression, but with which camera did you shoot your own video? The hue looks very good?
Sigma FP. Super underrated camera☺️
Great video. Thanks
Word! I agree with most of what you say minus enjoying the Sony color science - haha.
How was the monitor lag when used with a Ninja V over HDMI? :)
Not too bad with the latest firmware on both devices. But not spectacular either.
Tried to turn on notifications for your content but it says they’re disabled for childrens content. Not sure what it is with the settings for your channel but just thought I would give you the heads up
what camera are you using here, it's niceeeeeeee is this the S1H?
Sigma FP with Mamiya sekor C 80mm 1.9 and kipon speedbooster.
Hi, I’m looking at your peak design anchor setup. I have an s5 and I have the same setup, but it tends to shake a little bit and make the jingle sound unless I cover it with earbud covers. Are you having this issue at all? Also do you happen to use the anchors with a cage or l bracket? Thanks.
nice!
great video dude, so, the slow motion fishing shot at 11:00.....is that 4k 60? That is the highest frame rate the s1h can go yeah? I'm leaning towards the a7siii since im more video centric but I heard some people complain about the codecs
@@creativenords cool thanks, just checking back on this, how have you liked your A7S3? Better than s1h?
I can’t wait any longer for Panasonic GH6 to come out so I might pull the trigger on the Sony FX3!
@@ryansulak Super happy with my A7SIII, yet I bought an S5 after my A7SIII. As my B-Cam it is an insane value with ProresRAW and BRAW capability. However I love the autofocus on the Sony.
Was this video shot on the s1h! looks great
It was shot on my Sigma Fp with a Mamiya Sekor C 80mm 1.9 and Kipon speedbooster.
Wait so you ended up getting the a7siii back?
Yes! And my second camera is an S5🙈
@@creativenords I have been literally ripping my hair out trying to compare a camera to get. I am tired of the student film look that cameras give trying to make like film films. Do you feel like you lost that cinematic touch for the a7siii? I also have the a7iii so do you think I would just sell that to upgrade? or should I keep my a7iii also?
what company do you do all those work for, like you say? You have your own bussiness, and who are Ur clients ? I cant find even a website on you, is it creative nords ?
Yes I have but I keep my UA-cam life separate. I work for Scandinavia’s version of Home Depot as a Content Creator.
How is the photograpy of this camera if you aren't using native glass. Isn't it very bad with an adapter?
I used mine with a Sigma lens 150-600 mm (Canon adapter on the S1H) and was blown away with the results.
If you pick up and shake your s1h, in various directions, with the power on, but no lens attached, do you hear anything? Do you hear / feel sounds of parts gently shifting or any rattling noises or is it dead quiet? I’m asking, because you have one and I recently dropped my padded camera bag from about three feet and I’m trying to figure out if the noise I’m hearing was present before the fall. In other words, that it’s normal. My camera functions perfectly fine and the fall wasn’t super hard, but still, would like to hear from a real user. Thanks for any and all help!
This is the floating sensor that allows for the IBIS. The sensor has to float to compensate for the shake. Your camera is fine!
so what lens do you us that work the best with the s1h and whats the useable exposure latitude ?
Hi! I used the Canon 24-70 2.8. It’s my favorite all around lens.
Coulnt agree more, same dilemma and same as you I stayed with S1H 😅 With firmware 2.2 video AF works a bit better but still not 100% on lower F. 4k 60fps big regret :( AF for sport stills (kiteboarding actually haha) also not the dream, but fine. Curious what 2021 will bring. Updated R5 (R1?) or someething new from Lumix with finally working AF??
Yes I am as well. Hopefully Panasonic comes out with a replacement for the EVA-1 and Varicam. I think I would do wonders for the L-Mount l. In Scandinavia the S1H now dropped about 1200 Euros since I made the episode. I sold mine and got a A7SIII since I booked a lot more video work. I did one shot with S1H and lowa probe lens where the crop absolutely destroyed the look and that was it for me.
@@creativenords hmm and how is A7Siii working for you? from all the reviews I saw I just dont like the image that much, quite digital and super greeish, especially skin tones.. I would not mind 12MP for photos, I shoot a lot but mostly for socials so would be fine for me (and can get older A7 for backup and stills). Actually for me 1080p would be enough, but 1080p from S1H just looks mushy and not so nice :/ I decided to stick around since I invested quite a lot into the L mount until there is something out that would work 100% for me :/
@@AmuniMedia I would say that like with all Sony cameras I get it to where I want but sure the green is there, all tough not as pronounced as previous generations. As you stated I can always buy a cheap A7R MK I or II if I need more megapixels but I also have the Sigma FP. But over all I like the A7SIII quite a lot. The lack of crop factor being a big part of that. And the autofocus is SUPER useful in some of my use cases. Do I prefer the ergonomics and build of the S1H YES! But all I all I am happy with the switch for my current use.
@@creativenords hm hm yea will keep that in mind.. I will wait for 2021 and see :) Wish you good shots!
Canon R5 - full shit with overheating, A7SIII full shit with a price, S1H full shit with a focus performance.
Did you shoot this video on the camera?
No this is shot on the Sigma FP
S1h very empressv job
I did the same!
Bothers me that he misspelled panasonic
hahaha
Fixed
Oh so you need the R5C
Yes the R5C is now my current main camera. Very happy with it so far. However I have an S5 as backup just because I just love the image from Panasonics S series.
have 2 R5 bodies - problem solved
get a mike, great content
just because you dont need AF
Af sucks
