Great information & thorough work Dave! Busy man prior with BSB & now you’ll have heaps of time to work on your own bikes in winter 😉 Champion spannerman🤙
There is a bodge method of stopping the clutch spring rattle (recently had to do it to my CB500) which works but is at your own risk. Simply insert one washer of the correct diameter under one end of each spring (thick enough to be a relatively tight fit) and then tack weld the washer in place. It worked for me and I believe some of the CB500 racers do it too so it can’t be all that bad. 🤞
I have a gen 1 zx10r, got it with about 15k miles give or take. I have 70k miles or so of hard riding lol love the gen 1 !!!!!! I had a issue with clutch kits burning up, I read about the muzzy zx12 clutch basket and hub mod to give the clutches more oil, did it to my gen 1. A complete difference and never had a burnt clutch again.
Another very interesting video 👍 love all your work I see you around the BSB paddock and a few times at Scarborough after watching your videos I all most feel I know you it’s a strange thing 😂 keep them coming 👍👍
I had awful trouble with my gen 1 clutch until I fitted a sigma slipper clutch system from a 2008 zx10r. You have to die grind out the clutch cover 1mm. Result is 🤯
Great informative video,,I prefer the older analogue bikes,, plenty of power and a lot less wires and pumps 🙂,, I've an 06 Gsxr 1000 aswell as an SV 1000 which has a rattling clutch 😢 thanks for posting this video ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
Hi Dave, really gets my Sunday started 😂 love all your videos and these technical ones are super pleasing and interesting to watch. But I have one question... when are you making a video about you're Aprilia Tuono v4??😅 grtz from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and keep up the good work!!🎉
The 600 motors tended to be a bit mechanical (some say noisy) and weren't unknown for cam chain tensioner issues. Not know clutches to be an issue though
Good video, but I expected that you will fix "the old" clutch basket (springs) and show us how to. But you replaced for another part. Not all of us has possibility to change clutch basket. We need to repair original part somehow. Can you do another video specially how to repair this rattle basket please?🙏
Hello,i have one problem abd i think i can get answer there. I have kawa zx10r 2006.The problem is when i press the clutch,i hear some noise(clicking) in the clutch. The motorcycle is going well without problems.
Very much depends on how it's been ridden, dumping the clutch on down shifts, especially on track causes more problems. On the road I've seen 40k mile bikes with no issues
Hi can I ask a question I have a 2006 zx6 636 put a new 3 rd gear in putting clutch plates back and noticed the plates slide back and forth quite a bit never noticed before is that normal cheers bob
2006 Z750 95K km, I had similar noises when cold in neutral. I checked /replaced the ball bearing that sits on center of pressure plate. Very easy DIY job. The bearing type is SKF 6001.
@@obsession_engineering when u had the spring loose, what did u experience mechanically ? Did u had a hard time going from neutral to 1st gear on a stop light on the street? My ZX10R 04 does have that problem some times on the street that’s why I stay holding clutch on stop light n never putting it on neutral.
I’m thinking my 05 Zx10r is Needing a Clutch. I pull the clutch in in Neutral and the Rear Continues to spin. It doesn’t physically Slip I can’t feel it that is. Any Recommendations For Clutches?
Common to get clutch drag if the hub or basket are wearing where the plates run on them. Might be worth having a look at that first. The oil will cause a little drag too. I'd stick with oem parts as far as possible, they work well when there's no wear issues
🤔 after the montage AND refilling oil "why raving the engine/rpm?" neither the clutch-leaver at "basic" rpm (1200min^-1) i spot at a repair like here that the owner let the engine run and move the clutch-plate by the leaver ~5min. , clean-up the workspace and again he told me that should be the oil-viskosität ...powertrain was "hand warm" not hot !
Thanks for the upload. I really enjoy your informative style of video and seem to be able to take in so much of the detail, even though I'm unlikely to get my hands this dirty in my advancing years. Ever thought of becoming a lecturer in engineering? Back in my youth we had such dull lecturers. Can't remember a thing they taught me!! 🥱
Very interesting to watch as somebody who is trying to learn and understand more about the mechanical side of motorbikes 👍
I try to keep it simple, or at least understandable!
This is a brilliant video. Thanks Dave !

Very useful to know, thanks
Great video, very informative, I like that you can change the slipper action by the plate gap & springs.
The 1st steel, anti-judder plate, also fits the GSXR 1000 K1, K2's which helps the GSXR get off the line, by solving the snatchy clutch issue.
Had same problem with my k4 works like a dream with the zx10 steel in
Very interesting
I throw the jutter spring in the trash. APE track king clutch. APE basket. Works like a champ.
i’m having this snatchy clutch issue on my k7… any idea?
That was a good watch, and very interesting. Especially the bit about the ‘kit’ clutch, and tuning the slipper clutch.
On the 04... it is a problem. It was resolved on the 05. The generator issue.
Thanks Dave, enjoyable start to a Sunday. Off out for a ride in a while, think I might head to Dartmoor 🤔
Excellent technical video! Cheers
Great video as always . I just put ear plugs in when I had mine as after 3 years I still hadn't found a new basket.
Excellent! interesting to watch with handy tips.

I spy with my little eye, something beginning with ZXR. My all time favourite bike, well apart from an old school CB 9.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Very informative, thank you.
Love this video's. Thank you.

Eventually, once I get time... I may go riding this afternoon, to remind myself how ace it us 😁

when bike is running is that rattle noise gone when u pull the clutch in and than when u let the clutch it starts rattling again?
When the back of the basket wears, they rattle all the time
@@obsession_engineering in my question i explained the rattling on my triumph.. its not that bad.. its more noticeable on a cold engine.. 😁
man i wish there was a sound sample in this video. i have a zx600p and i have a suspicion that it maybe has the same problem.
The 600 motors tended to be a bit mechanical (some say noisy) and weren't unknown for cam chain tensioner issues. Not know clutches to be an issue though
Nice informative video Dave i guess you had already taken it apart to get the number from the basket..🤣
Yes, although it was 18 months ago!
Nice job!! Do certain clutch baskets just not rattle, or will the one you sourced also start rattling eventually?
Eventually they all wear, guessing the previous owner didn't blip much on down changes which wears them faster

Could be numerous things, without taking it apart to have a look I wouldn't want to say one specific thing
What sort of mileage would you expect from the springs if only used on the road on the 04 and 05 bikes
Very much depends on how it's been ridden, dumping the clutch on down shifts, especially on track causes more problems. On the road I've seen 40k mile bikes with no issues
Can the springs in the basket be replaced
Not easily, and the basket would need material replacing too
How do you know all the little tips and tricks to get everything done on this specific bike? I thought racers just ... raced?
Went I raced one of these I found most of the issues, it was a while ago but some things you never forget 😂

wish you played the rattle before changing
I am about to pull my clutch out of my 05 zx10r for the same reason.
so were do we get 95 zx6r ignition box
I have a 2006 z750 and when it's cold or warming up I often get clutch honk,,any idea what the problem might be?
I've never looked at z750's so not sure if there's any regular issues.

Where did u get the clutch cage washer ? I can’t find it anywhere
Lucky ebay find after lots of searching!
@@obsession_engineering I think ima start making parts my self

I don't think the springs actually wear down on the ends. I think they just collapse from age and use.
Why is the replacement basket better than yours spring wise but the other parts were worse than yours
It's a mystery!
love the videos but on this one i noticed the footrest hero blob is missing 😂

Does the 636 also have this problem? I have a B1H 636 2003
You’ll b in the same position in no time if that’s a standard basket maybe an APE clutch woulda been better ?

Does a 07 ZX10R have a slipper clutch?
Yes, all zx10r have a slipper clutch
I would not give my 04 zx10 up for any other boke on the plannet 🤙
It's a shame those springs can't be replaced.
It's more about the backing plate which also wears
@@obsession_engineering ah, yes, that makes sense

They'd soon realise I was winging it 😂
Alternatively, convince yourself it's just a weird Ducati and the clutch clatter is normal... 😁
