- Heart-stopping video released Thursday shows a multivehicle crash involving a semi truck on the Dallas North Tollway.
The incident happened on Wednesday morning in the southbound lanes , near Beltline Road in Addison.
The footage shows what appears to be a small tan Nissan veering into the 18-wheeler, striking it near the passenger's side of the cab. The semi then veers into the median, fli More..ps over it and lands on its side in the southbound lanes.
The truck also tore down a metal utility pole as it hurdled over the concrete barrier.
Six vehicles were involved in the crash but no one was seriously injured.
The crash closed both lanes of the roadway for some time, backing up traffic for miles
Miraculously no one was seriously injured in this accident, I drive by this scene every day from work
That truck most likely has a 12000 LB front end. An 11R22.5 tire has a diameter of 42.5 inches....and with a single steering box trying to hold back a 3000 pound car with 21 inches of leverage on the drag link, the driver has NO chance in HELL of correcting his course.
Ask me how I know. 4 years as a truck mechanic and 10 years behind the wheel of one.
This video is another example of why every driver should have a PomCam car video recorder system. If there was no video of this accident, all sorts of statements would have been made, everything from some driver cut off the trucker, to saying the 4 wheeler was at fault. Thank heavens this driver has video proof. We purchased the PomCam for our vehicles. Peopel, protect yourself from false claims before it's too late.
This looks awful. I'm so glad that these drivers knew what to do because no vehicle looked badly damaged on either side. I wonder the person why that first car rammed the 18-wheeler...
What's even scarier is the thought of a Semi coming at you.
You guys aren't very bright! For whatever reason, either driver error or mechanical failure, the car hits the truck. THe funny thing is you're all saying "truck driver should have stayed his course. How many of you have actually driven a truck? I drive an 18-wheeler every day. When the car hits the truck it's pinned between the front bumper and the front right steer tire forcing the truck to the left, the driver CANNOT hold his course because the car is preventing him from counter-steering.
Exactly HOW is this not the CAR's FAULT?? The Car swerved directly into that trucks wheel... could YOU have "kept cool under pressure" and simply slowed down an 80000 lb vehicle? Did you notice that not even a cement barrier could slow down that vehicle?? It is TOTALLY that car's fault. By the time truck had time to even realize what was happening it was too late for him to do anything but hang on.
Nice save by the Porsche Cayenne on the opposite side.
That was NO accident! That car appears to have purposefully rammed the truck. watch the video again, and then one more time.
Wow people coming in the opposite direction got some skills in driving
This video not only shows how one dumbass can ruin your day, but also the superior handling of the Porsche Cayenne!!! Gotta send this to porsche as a commercial idea..
Did Nissan have a mechanical problem?
Semi driver should have maintained a straight course in his lane or into lane number one. But do not avoid/evade to such an extreme that you crash through the median into opposing traffic where you could kill many in a head-on collision. Not the trucker's fault, but he made it far worse by overreacting.
IF A COLLISION, STAY YOUR COURSE!
Furthermore by the time the truck is in the left lane it's too late. See the sign on the side of the truck, it says Pepsi. If that truck is fully loaded it's carrying nearly 47,000 lbs of soda add that to the 33,000lbs of the truck and you have 80,000 lbs at highway speed, that a lot of inertia. By the time that truck is in the left lane the trailer is pushing it into the rail and that driver is merely a passenger.
@HawkF350...If you are a truck driver im guessing you are not that experienced, If you watch the video, the car was in the drivers blind spot, and from the time the car started moving to the left it was approx .02 sec b4 it hit the truck, and then approx .04 sec until the truck hit the wall, less than 1 sec of reaction time. and if you really knew wtf you were talking about, it dont matter what size vehicle your in, when a 4000lb object hits your steer tire your going to lose control!
Somehow, I don't believe this stupid driver of the Nissan has enough insurance for these damages! People, STOP TEXTING WHILE DRIVING!!!
Nissan driver's fault or mechanical problem steering his vehicle into the semi?
Why did the semi driver not continue straight?
Appears thathe semi driver made this into a far worse situation by not keeping his rig out of the wall.
Good reaction by opposing drivers.
Props to the reflexes for whoever is driving that white SUV at around 0:03 - 0:04 as the semi hops the median and comes into their lane. Semi still grazed their car I'm sure.
Just shows the randomness of danger in driving; if that driver had blinked at the wrong time, they won't have had time to react.
I have seen hundred of truck crashes and that barrier is WAY too low. They need a Jersey-wall or Ontario-tall-wall there because that central barrier just doesn't cut it and I'm sure that truck driver crapped himself when he realized he had hopped it!
Whatever the case, that car which created the whole mess (good driving on the truckers behalf) is in a LOT of trouble!
I call BULLSHIT!
I have had a commercial license almost 10 years, no at fault accidents, and only 2 minor accidents caused by otuer motorists running into me. Once while I was SITTING STILL IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC!!
Point is, my friend who is 21, thinks she can drive like a pro (but she can't) pays about 1/3 of what I do. She only has 3 years behind the wheel, and I have alost 4 times that.
Insurance companies are just governed mobsters.
I don't believe this video. How could a car possibly do that to a tractor trailer? This is b.s. The tractor trailer is MUCH heavier. He would have run OVER the car! You mean to tell me EVERY OTHER CAR managed to avoid the truck when he drove over the wall? I don't think so! Why would the car steer right into him so deliberately like that??
man bunch of good drivers on the other side of the road
That guy was so stupid! Who in their mind thinks they can cut off / hit a semi and at least come out a live!!
@patlescard66 A steer tire is the tires that "steer" your vehicle. On trucks you have steer tires, drive tires and tandems. Since most car now a days are front wheel drive the steer and drive tires are the same. On trucks, drive tires are the 2 axles in the middle. Tandems are trailer tires.
Anyone see that silver car swerve out of the way of the truck coming towards it? Thats what you call defensive driving.
Dont you think it would be fair if the driver that merged over to the truck's lane pay all of the road/vehicle damages.
Let me put it to you like this...try to make you understand this a little more.
If that had been a dump truck, this wouldn't have happened. they have 20 000 pound plus front end ratings. Double steering boxes, larger drag links, larger bearings, hubs, spindles, tie rods, etc.
The front end of a dump truck takes some of the weight of the load. It needs heavier components.
The sad part of all this is it was not the truck driver's fault, but they still get points against their license because some brain-donor ran into them. Not to mention all the work they lost waiting for the truck to be replaced, and that's if they even make it through a bad accident like that.
isn't the central lane, the passing lane for Semis?
that little car was all like "BYYYYAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!"
This was a tractor. a 12 000 pound front end. Single steering box, MUCH smaller and LIGHTER components. The front end of a tractor supports ONLY the weight of the truck and that's it. It needs to be lighter to save un needed weight.
A Honda Civic could put a bihighway tractor off the road like this no questions asked.
A dump truck, cement truck, etc....not so much. it would just bounce off a vocational truck.
Been driving comercial for 20 years no accidents 4 wheelers dont pay any attention to big trucks seen cars cut off trucks many time. The truck driver didnt have a chance here.
wow a little car like that is able to direct a big truck like that?
SHEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTT!
@rtbblin I agree with rtbblin, I've been a truck driver for 12 years, during which I have not had any accidents but I have had a steer tire blow out doing 65. If you have a steer tire wretched in a direction or in my case, gone, then you pretty much are mercy of the vehicle. It takes a heavy amount of force on the steering wheel to hold a loaded truck in line while slowing. That driver did not have a chance with that impact.
To this day, I still open new bottles of flat Pepsi.
how the fuck does an 1800 pound toyota echo push an 18,000 pound tractor trailer right the fuck off the fuckin road???
It looks to me as if the Nissan had a steering linkage issue. It looks like the right front tire is staying straight, while the left front tire is flopping all over the place. My original thought was that the left CV joint locked, which I've seen happen before. And at highway speeds, can also cause the steering linkage to break, thus the same thing I noticed of one wheel staying straight, while the other flops around.
I never had a ticket in my life, drive with some sense and hold a commercial license. I drive for a living, have a squeaky clean record and I still pay 3 times as much as some younger girls I know with 1/4 my expirence.
Incurance should be based on expirence, record and license class.....instead of what is or isn't between your thighs.
You wouldn't cut off a train, why would you try it to a truck?
That pepsi is gonna give a few people some surprises.
IGNORANT people like that is why truckers have a bad name, this makes me sick
The driver of that car must really hate Pepsi.
Thanks, goof.
Had a guy hit my Country Sedan station wagon right front wheel. I steered right just enough to keep it on the roadway out of the median.
Wondered if the same could have been possible here.
Those central barriers work really well don't they!
When the road rage started the truck driver was laughing at the guy and his puny car. Well guess who's laughing now.
what the hell was that... the truck was not in the sedan's blindspot or anything???
@njot33 Ummm, that car still weighs about 2,000 ish pounds. I don't know why this is so unbelievable to you but whatever. It is as real as they come. At 0:20 you can see the force that the car impacts the tractor causing the whole cab to shake.
Looks like the ball joint snapped in the silver car which then forced it onto the truck.
I'm surprised the truck actually went over the shoulder.....they should really make shoulders about a foot higher than they are now.
Glad they were not any fatalities.
WTF, yea can't tell me that 4 wheeler ran that big truck off the road only if he kept his ground that would have NEVER happened...
Great driving by that white SUV! He nearly got smashed!!!!
It also appears as though the car got wedged between the tire and front bumper of the truck. Look at the way it pops out as the truck goes over. I would like to see these morons try to keep a truck straight with a 3,000 pound wedge holding the steering left.
What was thinking the driver of the silver car? I hope the truck driver is ok now.
Did you see that one car avoid the head-on collision.
U can clearly see that the trailer is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of him, in another words... VISIBLE!
the car driver was obviously
A: A woman
B: Asian
C: using the cellphone (txting, calling someone) eating a hamburger, a taco or he was just blind not to see a fuckin truck next to him.
amazing how a small car can win over a trailer truck! If this truck driver thought he was invincible, now he is pwned like they say ;-)
how the fuck does a huge truck get pushed by a tiny ass altima?
@HawkF350 You're wrong. He's right. Try it, have someone in a car smash your steer tire, you will not be able to control that wheel its forced to the left. Watch the vid. What do you think happened super trucker?
agree with points 1,2, and 4, but I think the driver of the little car should be hung, its not the semis fault, none of us could know or feel the reason his truck reacted the way it did, a lot of people could have died there. imagine rush hour gridlock, his truck would have squashed like 8 cars...
How come a small car can do to a big truck like that ?
A common sence resolve for imminent Trailer rollovers that will force a Tractor to participate can be viewed by searching Deformable Kingpin--to save Destruction, Harm & Deaths.
And that's just a tractor trailer.....my tandem dump truck witha tandem pup trailer is 44000 kilograms....a.most 97000 pounds legal.
people have no repsect for the size, weight and momentum of these rigs.
@eastvideolab No, it's a testament to someone who knows how to drive...
Oh my gosh! unbelievable.
I wonder if it was an illegal alien behind the wheel of the car that caused the crash. They're everywhere you know, causing all kinds of trouble.
obviosly the truck wasn't big enough for him to see, maybe he would have seen the goodyear blimp or a 747
I guess that guy really wasn't a fan of Pepsi.
I second that... But not "maybe." I think "without a doubt" would suit that better.
@wolf9walker trucks suppose to use right lanes...slower traffic use right lanes.
You, unfortunately, are a victim of statistics. I worked in the auto insurance industry and it's all about statistics. Young men are much more likely to have an accident than women. Sorry for your experience, but blame it on most young men who think they know how to drive and DON'T.
it was totally the car's fault but that truck shoulda been in the right lane. so they both fucked up but its mainly the car fault all the way
My guess is something broke on the car. If she veered into it on purpose the rear of the car wouldnt have jumped out the way it did. I could be completely off given that it is memorial day and the driver could have been drunk or something.
@njot33 This is definitely a real clip, I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area and remember when this happened, it was all over the media, plus if you it something in the right spot, no matter how big, damage can be done, everything has a weakness.
@starfire35 he needed 1,mil crash points to get to the next lvl
Hope everyone sued the car that cuased this wreck...
But they do!! Have you seen some of the train videos on here lol. If they thnk there's a remote chance they can beat whatever it is that is slowing them down, they will risk life and limb to pass it!!
God damn 4 wheelers!!!
what kinda car was that, I want one?
DamnnnNNNNnn , that poor driver !
Why do people always have debates in the comments section of UA-cam videos?
@0535281. Try jamming a 2800lb vehicle into the front of a steer tire... All this cuz that owner of that car had cheap soft tires. That driver made a mistake by traveling next to that rig & not paying attention. Don't buy cheap tires people.
don't know much about accidents but nice camera's huh?
DD: OMG!!!!! PLEASE TELL ME THE PEPSI IS ALRIGHT!
Driver of the Car drank Coke and he seemed to hate Pepsi.
It's the Trollway
Good eye man!! Ya they driver in older suv would have been seen turning over rolling
Bet the driver must have been high on Coke when this happened LOL.
okay, I turn now.. good luck everybody else!!
that divider total side swiped that truck
shame it wasn't red bull......gives you wings.
Pepsi driver caught by the boss drinking a Coke
Whoa, thats crazy!
@0:40 that Porsche was luckkkkky
What the hell does that driver have against pepsi?
Was that cars fault...no question!!!
@HawkF350 Why do you say that? He seems to have a good point..? Unless I missed somthing....
small sedan pushing a semi
AMAZING EVASION OF DEATH BY THE CAYENNE!!!!!
I wish i could have heard the reactions from the on coming drivers. XD
@joelaform666 what the hell is a steer tire theres no such thing!
I want that same car!
??? WTF ??? Can I have a translation?
