  • I spent a couple of weeks in Costa Rica testing the Canon R5C in some extreme locations and situations. This vide tells my thoughts on my camera and whether or not I think you should buy this camera over a Canon R5 II. This is not meant to be a real technical review...just sharing what I thought. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Harry, very informative and lovely visuals. Would love to know more about the rig you use for bats. If you ever make a video on that, you will have at least one avid watcher (likely many more, of course)!

Thanks! It’s just a few flashes on a trigger but next time I’m down there I’ll try to do one on that.

R5C was always tricky. Sometimes I loved it, sometimes I did not even like it. 😆Having to rig it takes away the beauty of what this camera is - a small hybrid camera. It has no internal NDs or XL - OK, fine, fair trade-off for the small form factor. But the fact you 100% need to add some sort of additional power supply for video use, is completely why I sold it. It was a great introduction into the cinema OS and I'm glad i used it. In fact I do hope they make a mark II based on the R52. Canon can start with: 1. New battery for more power (BP-A30 style?) 2. Full HDMI 3. Better AF, like on the C80. Not asking much! I definitely think there's a market and even just those small updates will be a smash hit. 100%.

What I really loved about this is it gives you the option to rig it but if you’re traveling you can go light and still get more of the “high end” features. The reality is even having a RED I never bring it on big trips because it’s a nightmare to fly with. So there’s a lot to love here. It’s not without its issues however a few upgrades like you said would make it a homerun. Probably why we’ll never see them because it’ll kill sales of other cameras. I’m over big rigs and I want to take pictures too. I can’t let that go and I’m certainly not carrying a cinema rig and photo rig anymore. This past trip I did that and it absolutely sucked.
I did use the new canon R5 battery on an R5C and it seemed like a big improvement already

I think it would solve a lot of problems if canon released a battery grip for the R5C that used the BP-A30 batteries. I just ordered some of the new Lpe6p batteries for my R5C because I heard that they last a lot longer than the lpe6nh batteries.

@@justinhofstadler6398I agree. I’ve said this for years even with the R5 that I wish the grip would support R3 batteries.
With the new lp batteries I saw easily 30-40% more run time. Sometimes more depending on conditions and frame rates
