let's not overhype. I use and love my 10 standard, excellent bit of kit. I was one of the early adopters myself and a long time yamaha fan too but best modelling amp you've ever heard? Come on now.
Just bought the THR10, so nice, so small, so portable....hope to enjoy it for YEARS, Yamaha is super...I have the amp, a 5 string base, Motor scooter Vino125, Keyboard,.... AND I LOVE ALL OF THEM!!!!!
That Mitch was a great review I myself love solid state, you can really tell the different tube type tones now if it quiet enough, and don't pickup transmission
Have a THR100H and the 2x12 cab THRC212 and it sounds very very good. I use a pedalboard and FX Loop, dist pedals... The unique problem is the FX Loop only can be activated by the Yamaha footswitch, big problem for me because no space left on my pedalboard. Now waiting Yamaha solution. 100% recommended!!
Why don't you just leave the fx loop active all the time? Why do you need to shut down your pedal chain? Just curious because I run a 10 count pedal chain but its always activated.
best system ever.....you got a marshsll...a vox ac 30 and a fender tube amp in one perfect modelling amp. it sounds great. best japanese craftsmanship at it's best 😎
Can you feed the Line Outs to the returns of the effects loop (then to two full range cabs) to use the THR as a power amp and take advantage of the IRs?
How do you think this would interface with say a line 6 pod hd pro rack unit? I am thinking this could be a good way to go as a power amplifier. It is well known that the line 6 cabinet emulations leave a lot to be desired and it seems that this amp could do both with a two notes torpedo can do in loading my own IR's into it but also while having the option to use as a power amp and also model various power sections at the same time. Would this amp allow for IR's applied only to XLR outs while the speaker cab simply gets the unaltered pre and power amp signal? Does it fit in a rack??
I'm really really interested in this amp, but it looks like silent recording (onstage monitoring as well) is only possible if you detach the speaker. I checked the manual, and the balanced lineouts come after the volume control, major bummer for me....
Emulation. But Yamaha has done a good job with capturing the sound of the tubes. Using their VCM technology. VCM stands for Virtual Circuitry Modeling. Whenever a tube type is selected, it really sounds like a real tube amp.
+slimex33 Dang! But you could out put direct? The other thing that I am not getting is how you switch between tones & how many you can switch between. I mean no presets at all. To me it would be great for studio stuff where I can take the time to crank the knobs to where I want. But live well, not sure how it would work.
+slimex33 that is unfortunate. would have added some easy value, especially given the asking price which rather high for a modelling amp. I suggested way back with the original thr to add a spdif out to bypass the conversion stage altogether.
Great question! The line out and the headphone out both have cab simulation. You can even use third party IR's if you want to get a particular sound. If you have any other questions, or if I can help further, feel free to reach out! Connor Smith, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1793, connor_smith@sweetwater.com
+wiziek Marshall has the Code series which are digital / emulations. 2 Code 100H's would be the same price as a THR100HD. The price on the THR is fine for the features they offer. It's not marketed as a "secondary" or practice amp like the THR10 was.
+Bogdanoff von Flockenstoffen (Kitchie) That's good to hear. I had the Blues Cube but didn't like it at all. It was very bassy, and had some hiss with a brighter speaker. I think it was really meant for solidbody players who always want to use a little grit.
Is this THR 100 HD good enough to use as a recording amp or are tube amps better? I'm not too crazy about the DSL that everyone else loves. It just sounds a bit muddy imho. Maybes there's an Eq pedal or something that can help, clear it up a bit?
I can say for me that since I got the THR100 I've not been using the Carr Sportsman. The tone is about 98% there but it offers a few key advantages over the Carr: stereo, gain settings, and direct recording with cabinet emulation. The stereo alone is what keeps me using it, and with the gain settings I can get two totally different sounding amps through 2 different speakers from the same box. So I think it's a great recording tool and love the sound even though I have a nice tube amp sitting next to it which I don't turn on any more.
Why? It's 100 watts of power. That, to me, is more than enough for band work. Specifically, 100 watts of output power for the head itself, and once plugged into a cabinet, you get even more power.
@@michaeldbalance been trying to find out if a Power Amp can be connected inline for a boosted output into say a 4x12 stereo Boogie cab loaded with V30 Celestions, same concept I guess as going direct into a Powered PA. But at least there'd be more volume on stage to cut thru drums. 100w solid state isn't gonna be anywhere near a 100w Friedman Cantrell head.....this amp with an external 250w solid state power amp could be a game changer.
small gigs only i use it in a pub and the sound is great but only just loud enough it would have to be mic'd up in a club but to be fair i use a clean country sound if you use the boost/ distortion you will be ok
It's a totally different amp. I owned the Blackstar and it's cheaper for a reason. It's noisy and sounds very flat with any kind of clean tone. It's really aimed at bedroom shredders who like overdrive. The THR gets much closer to real tube tone both in the sound and the way it reacts from clean to dirty.
Mitch needs to work on his rhythm. Don's struggling to maintain the meter and Mitch's time just seems all over the place. Not trying to troll. it's just really hard to listen to. Cool sounding amp though. Some pretty convincing tones.
"plenty of sustain there, plenty of gain for any type of lead you could want" after playing something that could be callled an AC/DC tone. "Any lead i want" is apparently limited to old farty "bluesy" stuff
I have the THR10, and that's definitely the best modelling amp I've ever heard. This new model is really really damn cool. I'm impressed by Yamaha.

Damn right!
Thr10 for lead guitar only and not for acoustic guitar?...... i tried using cpx yamaha and its so bad....
Once again Mitch... A Great Demo....This stuff just keeps getting better and better....

The on-screen chemistry between Mitch and Don is always electric. (And once again, Don plays Harpo.) LOL.
Damn Mitch..... your lookin good!!!!!

He's wearing a short-sleeve shirt to show off his metamorphosis into John Petrucci.
+Skippy McStringStrum Bwahahaha!
now that is FUNNY,nice one.....
Mitch how many speed talking contests have you won! I had to run you through a phrze trainer to keep up!!
Well Adertons Capt said The Blues Cube was the Best Solid state amp he's heard so far. and they Tested the THR100 HD in a vid
dude, Mitch is getting ripped!

Six month waiting list for delivery.
Come on Yamaha
Would love to know how this compares to the Roland Blues Cube, sound quality wise. I'm considering getting either this or one of those.

Why is there no more YAMAHA HI GAIN amps for metal?

hi jordan did you end up getting the thr and if so how did it work out cheers

Who's got two thumbs and knows what his next amp will be?
This guy, Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
So how did it go? did you get it? and did/do you like it?
do you think this head is loud enough for a loud band? not really metal but more of a sludge rock band?
Which is better the THR100HD or the Blackstar Fly 3? Thanks
@sweetwatersound does this have actual tubes or is it solid state with emulations only?
Emulation. But Yamaha has done a good job with capturing the sound of the tubes. Using their VCM technology. VCM stands for Virtual Circuitry Modeling. Whenever a tube type is selected, it really sounds like a real tube amp.
Can both amps feed into ONE of the speaker outs - for those of us that don't have a 2x12 cab with separate inputs??
Yes they can, richab88. Use Input 1, Speaker Out 1, and the Amp Select switch to decide if you want Amp 1, 2, or both simultaneously. Thanks!
Can loaded presets & patches be selected with a foot switch?
You cannot.
You actually CANNOT record direct via USB with this. USB is only used for changing the reverb and/or boost and also importing IR files.
+slimex33 Dang! But you could out put direct? The other thing that I am not getting is how you switch between tones & how many you can switch between. I mean no presets at all. +greatvanzinni Yes, each amp (channel) has an XLR direct out with speaker emulation.
+slimex33 that is unfortunate. would have added some easy value, especially given the asking price which rather high for a modelling amp. I suggested way back with the original thr to add a spdif out to bypass the conversion stage altogether.
So can I have this feed into a normal guitar 4x12 cab with no problem?
+Diego Deras yes you can
Does the 2x12 cabinet come with 2 speaker cables
lol
2 heads are better than 1?
+Brian Cullen Nah, Any head is better than none!! :)
Does the line out have a cab sim?
Great question! The line out and the headphone out both have cab simulation. You can even use third party IR's if you want to get a particular sound. If you have any other questions, or if I can help further, feel free to reach out!

Can I run this through a line 6 150 watt cabinet instead of the line 6 spider 4 head?
Yes. Just make sure the OHMs are the same though.
Very nice but THR5/10 was expensive. This is just too expensive.
***** Marshall doesn't make digital equpiment and this? One, two channel digital amp? Familiar to Blues Cube, good product but too big price.
+wiziek Marshall has the Code series which are digital / emulations. 2 Code 100H's would be the same price as a THR100HD.

Joe Perry boneyard PRS???
PRS Modern Eagle II
great sound but not loud enough for band work

@@michaeldbalance Read the back of the Yamaha....100w for 16ohms, 50w for 8ohm, 25w for 4ohms.
@@hoptard Oh. Well, thanks. I miss that sometimes

Mike my THR10X mike it to my two Princeton true my rip 1000 for hook up to get stereo
does anyone no if it has enough headroom for small gigs
+Jim Longo If you use it as a 1 channel amp with both speaker outputs you'll have 50 watts x 2 ... so that should be enough for a small gig.

Love the amp hate the fu@$ing price!
Nice but this is a copy of the blackstar ID TVP which is half the price of the yamaha

Yeah? Yamaha came out with their THR10 amp and modelling tech in 2011. Just plain stupid to call the TH100H a copy of the Blackstar.
you pathetic liar!

Even blues has a tempo. Rhythm is rhythm you can be behind the beat, on time or ahead of it but you can't be all three.
+hueseph Not trying to troll or anything, but what is your definition of the musical and rhythmic concept called syncopation?
+AudioAtmos Please refer to my post above.
+hueseph Never mind. Your above post is what prompted my question.
This Guy talks to fast. Forgot what he said.

You guys sound like a couple of amateurs that supposed to be blues.?🤪

"plenty of sustain there, plenty of gain for any type of lead you could want" after playing something that could be callled an AC/DC tone. "Any lead i want" is apparently limited to old farty "bluesy" stuff
Can I plug this into a PA system and get the same volume, etc. of a "normal" amplifier?
