  • 1987’s The Princess Bride is often on top of the list of many movie buff's favorite all-time movies. It has everything you want from a great story. It has great cheesy romance, laugh-out-loud comedic moments, hard-to-watch torture scenes, and great memorable characters.
    The movie was adapted from William Goldman’s 1973 novel of the same name, and even though it was not a commercial success at the time, it has since become a beloved cult classic.
    But if you ever felt nostalgic and wanted to relive Westley and Buttercup's love again, here are things you will notice about the Princess Bride as an adult.

      @Playfulpanthress You're right about Buttercup and the water, but Íñigo's name is Spanish (for "Fiery") and the "tilda" above the "n" makes it an "enya" and gives it a "ny" pronunciation. He's saying it just the way Mandy Patinkin says it in the film, just as "canyon" is spelled "cañon" in Spanish. I always say other movie companies (writers, producers, directors _et al)_ should study this film to see how action comedies should be made. In short, I love it. Stay safe.

    nono the reason the boat "jumped" to her is because the grandfather paused reading, then accidentally reread parts, then skipped ahead slightly. the entire thing is based inside the narrative of a book, after all.

      I had always assumed the same, that not only had Indigo survived, but became the next Dread Pirate Roberts, as Wesley suggested. However, the book ending, is fairly close to the same, except that it does have 2 ending. The author placed, "But here's what really happened..." and during that slightly more comical version, Indigo does survive, "until his wounds open up again..." This is not a direct quote and it has been several years since I have read the book, but even then, he doesn't die in that version, either. The Princess Bride is my all time favorite movie and this list is not really a list at all...it seemed too much for them...

    If you remember, Queen Penelope waited for 20 years for Odysseus to come home and she hadn't remarried until she was forced into it by her suitors.
    So, Westley expecting/hoping for Buttercup to keep waiting for him isn't THAT big of an issue. If you have a strong enough love connection, your partner could wait for you as long as it took

    • @jeremygilbert7989
      @jeremygilbert7989 4 роки тому +8

      Hoping, yes; expecting, no. Much as I love this movie and the book, Westley was absolutely venomous toward Buttercup for not living up to his expectations. Viewed realistically (and not as the genius satire that it is), his attitude doesn't bode well for their future together.

    As an adult, I did wonder what this video had in store. Turns out it was 'mostly' continuity or 'where did that come from?' and a little litterally-ism. There's nothing wrong with a bit of Fantasy to take you away from common old day life. And there's nothing worse than a kid asking you "Why?" "What?" "Where?" Adults accept this movie for what it is. A fantastical romp. Kids question.
    And in answer to the questions of Inigo and Fezzik's past and future/future and past.. you can all read about that in the sequel, "Buttercup's Baby".

    5:17 Considering Humperdinck hired Vizzini to perform a kill on Buttercup, thr prince probably set all that stuff up for Vizzini. That was my assumption when I saw the movie for the first time at age 6. 😉

    They used the rope to enter Gilder because they were sneaking into the country to start a war. If they had gone to a port someone probably would have noticed three men forcing a women they kidnapped off a boat and through the town. When Vizzini says "he'll have to sail around for hours until he finds a harbor" he isn't referring to a specific port that he knows about and is hard to find, he is speaking generally about a place to land without huge cliffs. Presumably this coast must be mostly cliffs and Vizzini knows that it would take hours to sail down the coast until he found a place to safely land; Vizzini likely scouted the coast out in preparation for the job. He probably recruited Fezzik specifically because he was strong enough to climb up the cliffs. Vizzini's plan all along was to go this way to a) sneak into Gilder without being noticed b) shake off any pursuit if there was any and c) take the quickest most direct route to Gilder.

    When Christopher Guest hits Cary Elwes on the head, he hit Cary so hard that Cary ended up in the hospital with a concussion. In previous takes, Guest, afraid that he would hurt Cary , was barely tapping him. Cary told him to go ahead and hit him.

    If you had read the book, you'd know a lot more. Fezzik, Ignigo and Buttercup. I'd recommend you start with the abridged version as the original by S. Morgenstern is almost unreably long winded. If you read the book you get it.

      The director of the movie was a very big fan of the book since he was a child and wanted to honor on of his favorite books by making a good film adaption and sharing it with movie goers. The author of the book even wrote the screen play. These facts are very well documented.

    I’m confident that the folks that made this beautiful film were fully aware of the supposed “plot holes”. The primary motif of the film is of a story being read-moreover, passed down from grandfather to grandson. I wonder if y’all have ever read a story, read one to a child, or indeed, had a story read to you. I wonder if you ever operate within the realm of imagination instead of what must be a constantly frustrated, pedantic, nitpicky, arrogant, sad sort of gray, analytical “realism”. Jesus, maybe y’all need to give the vids a break and pick up a book.
