He could have said no to Mabel whenever he wanted, but the fact he didn't doesn't show a toxic relationship, but just how good of a relationship the twins have. It sucks that so many in the fandom don't get this. And this is coming from the fandom that literally forced Alex to make a fake leak so that no one caught on to the reveal of Ford, because of how well they all worked together to solve it.
My brother tends to watch what I watch. So one day he sat down and started watching the show with me. He noticed how close Mabel and Dipper were and asked if they were siblings. I said yes. I told him what drew me to this show was that they actually get along and love each other. And he said he noticed that too. I was so happy to finally have a show out there where the sibling don’t hate each other or are awkward. Or get embarrassed and apologize because they feel they need to. Or hang out because their parents pushed them to. This is such a great show for that and more. Thank you Alex!
+Kathykangaroo-What's really weird with a lot of Disney and Nickelodeon shows is that the siblings are really nasty towards each other. Petty bickering, sniping, swiping at each other, it's often really unpleasant. So Dipper and Mabel's relationship is a breath of fresh air in so many ways. They don't get along all the time, they do still tease and pick on each other, but you ALWAYS know how much they truly love each other and care about each other. They are always each other's first best friends and have been since they were born. Dipper is not embarrassed to be an "older" brother and nor does he ever get embarrassed that he knows Mabel. He is more stressed out on trying to be what he believes to be cooler and I think deep down, he's a little jealous but so happy that Mabel is so comfortable with herself. That she always is comfortable in being who she is rather than who she is not. And that's something Dipper really looks up to her for. It's rare to see not only siblings with such a loving relationship with each other, but siblings that have such an equal relationship with each other even. Dipper sees Mabel as his equal and vice versa. Dipper may see himself as the "older" brother but there is no "big brother/big sister" or "little brother/little sister" in their relationship. And they actually want to be a part of each other's lives. A lot of that is personal because Alex and Ariel are so close, they grew up going on adventures in the Northeastern wilderness together. Where they wanted to spend time with each other. And even now, you can tell how the two of them remain close and still love each other that deeply. It's really touching.
My brother and I constantly fight, but we have movie nights where we just sit down and watch a movie together. We sometimes watch cartoons, like Gravity Falls, though he complains, or Scooby Doo, Spongebob. All siblings fight and I don't think its fair for adults to blame the children for fighting, when siblings, hell even significant others, fight
As an older twin with a younger twin sister, this show shows a SUPER accurate relationship between twins. This show covered so many things that we both experienced. It’s a love letter to having a twin sibling because it’s so relatable. My sister used to be taller and used to always tease me. The size episode is an amazing representation of part of our childhood.
I think the fandoms frustration with Mabel may have been an unintentional consequence of Alex’s desire to have Dipper learn more lessons and his own struggle to relate to Mabel’s story.
@@ma.2089 Such as they got irritated immediately after Dipper entered their room being attacked by a wolf and an owl after her Sleepover with her friends, when she saw him in that state she decided to have fun with him compensating leaving him behind by poking with a stick and joke
It's used to unlock a hidden easter egg video in the box set. I still remember back in 2018 when we were all decoding this stuff on the Subreddit. How's it been nearly 2 years since that already :'(
And THIS is what Gravity Falls is all about. The willingness of Dipper and Mabel to do anything for each other is something truly special. It's funny because I bought the box set after already having owned the whole series for years, because the bonus content was worth the price on its own
@@expiredmonke6429 well I felt like dipper was way more mentally mature than mabel in most cases. She's pretty much proven over and over again how selfish she is. You may admit it, or you want, but mabel is pretty selfish. -He destroys the chances that dipper has with Wendy, just so that dipper would help her with her crushes -Bill literally calls her out, saying all the times that dipper has sacrificed things for mabel, but she never has. (In that episode Mabel does sacrifice a thing for dipper though, so at least she did that) -She forces dipper into confessing with Wendy, despite him not being comfortable with it. - She thinks that she's a "match maker". Hell, she literally forces tambry and robbie into a relationship. - And remember, the whole reason weirdmaggedon happens is because she was too selfish. When her brother got an amazing opportunity to actually achieve his goals and pursue his dreams, mabel throws a fit and runs away into the forest. In this vulnerable state, Bill takes advantage of her. Mabel is simply too childish. She probably doesn't know what she's doing half of the time. She doesn't realize the consequences that her actions have. It's probably not her fault. She's just not mentally mature enough. She has the mind of an 8 year old.
Back when i was a kid, i used to hate their sibling relationship. I later realized i was just jealous. My twin and me never really got along. I feared her, and she liked that. She liked being older and i let her in hopes she’d love me. We’re both working on it and we are both making progress. Im glad that this is where we will end up soon. Yy
I’m a twin and when this show first came out I was so pleased that the relationship between the siblings reflected my relationship with my twin. I can relate so much to both characters. I think this was one of the first shows I watched with good sibling relationship. It also doesn’t showcase twins as a creepy gimmick that a majority of shows and horror movies do. The twins are very different and are presented as not one entity!
My siblings and I are all very close and consider each other best friends. Mabel and Dipper's relationship was one of my favorite things about the show, I wish there were more positive sibling relationship shows out there.
I have a twin sister and we really love that the Pines twins’ relationship is shown so pure, open and kind. Of course siblings don’t always get along, neither do my Sister and I, but, we also have that connection, like: I can annoy her sometimes and the other way ‘round, but we’ll still love each other just the same. And I think that’s very important to be shown in a kids show!! Ps: We both grew up with Gravity Falls and we’re really thankful for all the wonderful memories. (We also cosplayed the twins a lot, since she is so much like Mabel and I’m so much like Dipper ^^)
"Do you believe in ghosts?" "I believe you're a dork" Yeah, that's my twin and I. But it'll either turn into an open discussion of ghosts, or my brother will list off the reasons they can't exist. Depends on the day. Very realistic sibling writing, and a SUPER good representation of fraternal twins. We can be at each other's throats in the morning, and by nightfall my brother would be sneaking into my room to sleep because the spider dream kept him up.

coming back to this and thinking about how when dip finds the journal and then immediately shows it to mabel even if he wasn't supposed to trust anyone :)
This show was my childhood! And i recently rewatched it and I love it! And im dissapointed reading the comments that some people didn't like mabel or found her "toxic"! I dont know why everyone loves to throw that word around without knowing the actual meaning and signs of a toxic relationship and this isnt it. I have never watched a animated series and loved every single character, i could watch 10 more seasons, however the ending was good and satisfying. Fantastic show!
My twin sister and I really love the show because in most other shows, the twins are mean and/ or stupid. The cliche even made our relatives feel sorry for our mom. Dipper and Mabel act a lot more like us. :)
@@vadimyakovlev8753 No it is not. On average, all twins are slower on speech and language skills because they make up their own. They also fall behind on other techniques because they don't pay attention to anything/one around them. Good news, it made my sister and I NOT pain in the ears whenever we wanted attention.
@@cottontail1039 Thank you for your responses. If I'm not annoying, can you answer the last question, please? If you had the choice of being one child in the family or having a twin, what would you choose?
I am a twin, this show is among my sister and I's top 5 of all time, we loved how accurate it is to the twin relationship and also the story and general plot of the show. It also made us crack up and emotional too. I just have so many good memories watching it with my sister, especially for the finale.
1:17 Ariel Hirsch makes the signature "Mabel" sound. Its real. Its just another real life great hilarious thing that is real because these two are the Pines twins. Adorable.
I know they have their quarrels from time to time, but the love Dipper and Mabel have for each other is so precious. They really do care for one another and would do anything for each other.
I just love that it is finally a show showing dizygotic twins, who probably got an even stronger bond than enzygotic ones. And in general the relationship between dizygotic twins is so special and unique
I absolutely love this show, and one of my favorite reasons being that it shows a healthy accurate relationship of siblings. You fight for an entire day, but in the end you're like "Wanna go get some WhatABurger?" Because you still love each other and one dumb fight over how you ate all their tuna packs and they drew on your CAT ain't going to change your whole relationship
I swear my sister and I were meant to be twins cus we were always joined at the hip growing up and we still have each other's backs and literally do not give a shit abt what the other sibling does
This is almost exactly how me and my younger sister are. We’re really chaotic together and when we get mad at each other it never lasts more then a couple days. We always punch and trip each other jokingly and stuff like that too
Me and my brother aren’t twins but we’re close in age and very close anyway, we grew up watching gravity falls and it made us even closer in our bond. This show means so much to me because of it and it makes me happy to know how much Dipper and Mabel were based off Alex and Ariel, and how well it portrays the best of having siblings! 🤍
I have a twin sister myself, including a handful of younger siblings as well. There truly isn’t any bond like having a twin. Me and my twin are so alike, but so different. It’s like we’re a weird mix of Dipper and Mabel - she is book smart yet outgoing, I’m more introverted but love animals and anything nerdy (also super funny, but I also loved pigs as a kid and had a bunch of stuffed animal pigs. All named “Babe” After the movie lol). I always identified so much with Dipper as well. We’ve also cosplayed as Dipper and Mabel multiple times, and gotten many compliments. We were born 2 months premature, and we almost lost my sister several times. She wasn’t breathing when we were taken out with an emergency c-section. My therapist is certain that I have separation anxiety and other trauma, because my twin was “ripped away” from me too early, and because I was in the womb with her while she was clinically dead. Scary stuff.. I can’f imagine not having my sister. I don’t even wanna think about it. I have recurring nightmares about losing her, or her getting hurt.
As a twin myself, I couldn't agree more on the sibling relationship aspect shared. I have 5 other siblings and it's just not the same. I can't imagine how my life would've been without my twin there.
Dipper and Mabel are very important to me in a way. I am a triplet, which has its differences from twins. We are fraternal just like Dipper and Mabel. These two characters remind me a lot of the relationship with my siblings and it makes me so happy.
2:35 when I watched this show as a kid I never thought about it the way Alex explained it. I was always mad Mabel got her way. But watching the way he explains the point of view of each sibling changed my view of Mabel and reminded me that the twins are just kids and each of them have their own flaws
I don’t have siblings, I’m the only child but my mom has two younger sisters, so i grew up with them when they were in their teens so I think of them as my big sisters and they think of me as their annoying little sister. So I related a lot on how Dipper and Mabels sibling relationship where there’s times when they drive you nuts and you love them, or get upset and fight, dealing with boyfriends and there, problems, or even sacrificing things for each other. They’re older in there early 30s now with kids and I’m in my early 20s so we always like reminiscing our adventures and our secrets, all the good bad or crazy times we had. But its true that’s although it seems like Dipper and Mabel don’t have a good relationship, they actually do and its just how genuinely siblings act and I’m glad they show how much they love each other and truly care for one another 😊 ❤️ ✨
I'm a triplet, and I love my sisters to death. We call each other swear words, but it just means we love each other. Our anger towards the others lasts an hour or two at most.

And this is coming from the fandom that literally forced Alex to make a fake leak so that no one caught on to the reveal of Ford, because of how well they all worked together to solve it.
She's also literally 12 years old 😁 I'm 14 and some of the things I highly value seem stupid to older people.
I think you mean quirky, haha.
Preach it brother
Totally agree!!!! 🙏🙏🙏
I’ll never get how you can hate Mabel, she’s such a fun character.
Because of how she treats Dipper. She's a manipulative bully to him, who allways gets away with it cause she's a cute kid.
@@agsilverradio2225 no shes not 🤨
@@ijionclifton9148 sounds like something a manipulative bully would say 🤔
She's really self-centered.
@@Volcanic_Activity She's a CHILD
Between the sweater Ariel is wearing amd that noise she made at 1:16 she is literally Mabel
I thought i was the only one that caught that
YESSSSSSS
I was about to comment this but then I found this!! 😂 I liked that sound hahah, it was so Mabel
Yes the Mabel augugaguguuuuh
I like how Alex spits facts at 2:30
That scene needs to be seen by a lot of people in this fandom tbh.
YES!
I love alex hirsh
As an older twin with a younger twin sister, this show shows a SUPER accurate relationship between twins. This show covered so many things that we both experienced. It’s a love letter to having a twin sibling because it’s so relatable. My sister used to be taller and used to always tease me. The size episode is an amazing representation of part of our childhood.
I think the fandoms frustration with Mabel may have been an unintentional consequence of Alex’s desire to have Dipper learn more lessons and his own struggle to relate to Mabel’s story.
Yeah. She does less bad things that she needs to learn from. So they demonize her every action
@@ma.2089 Such as they got irritated immediately after Dipper entered their room being attacked by a wolf and an owl
after her Sleepover with her friends, when she saw him in that state she decided to have fun with him compensating leaving him behind by poking with a stick and joke

@dudumarosh hmmm not sure about that first one buuuut as for the second one uhhhhhhh bruh it ia not that deep that's just how siblings do to each
3:07 the code translates to: left at triangles (using the Bill substitution cipher)

@@ThatGFFAN oh man...

It’s just so wholesome how well they get along, honestly it’s the best part of the show
Agreed
The more i learn about alex Hirsch the more I like and respect him. He is so freaking great.
And THIS is what Gravity Falls is all about. The willingness of Dipper and Mabel to do anything for each other is something truly special.
It's funny because I bought the box set after already having owned the whole series for years, because the bonus content was worth the price on its own
I LOVE THE MORALS SO MUCH-
"we don't care" they spoke at the same time lol 🤣 totally twins ♥️ love them 💞
Alex And Ariel are so adorable and wholesome
They’re literally the real life version of Mabel and Dipper
Dipper and Mabel are based on Alexander and Ariel.
1:03 I still love how that's probably the most accurate representation of close siblings I'll ever see
An some idi0t has the nerve to say that she never respects him or return the favor
they're just adorable siblings.
So the creator made an episode where his sister could finally get her pet pig. Yet another reason to love Waddles.
This go for all ya'll mabel haters who pinpiont this episode as part of her being selfish.
In one summer, Alex Hirsch destroyed all Mabel hater logic with the commentaries in the box set and Lost Legends.
Why would people hate Mabel??!!! 😡😠
@@Comic945 Only idiots hate Mabel. Sadly the fandom is full of a lot of idiots.
IMO, Mabel is selfish because of how innocent she is. But I actually like her character..
@@expiredmonke6429 well I felt like dipper was way more mentally mature than mabel in most cases. She's pretty much proven over and over again how selfish she is. You may admit it, or you want, but mabel is pretty selfish.
-He destroys the chances that dipper has with Wendy, just so that dipper would help her with her crushes
-Bill literally calls her out, saying all the times that dipper has sacrificed things for mabel, but she never has. (In that episode Mabel does sacrifice a thing for dipper though, so at least she did that)
-She forces dipper into confessing with Wendy, despite him not being comfortable with it.
1:17 it's Mabel's typical thing on Gravity Falls
UAAAUHH--
Are you ok...?
@@th30ther12 Yeah, that's just the sound she makes...
A sound. Okay?
Let me say, Ariel Hirsch is now my role model
Back when i was a kid, i used to hate their sibling relationship. I later realized i was just jealous. My twin and me never really got along. I feared her, and she liked that. She liked being older and i let her in hopes she’d love me. We’re both working on it and we are both making progress. Im glad that this is where we will end up soon. Yy
Even though there won't be a third season there is still so much to enjoy
I honestly love Dipper and Mabel’s relationship
And so do I
The sibling bond is one of the jewels of the show. I loved this.
Why was I cursed as an only child?
ah, dude, I feel you-
You're not alone, but I'm perfectly fine with it. :P
I felt you... then I got a brother when I was ten and half. He sucks but is also amazing at the same time.
Having a sibling is both a blessing and a curse
@@julieclark7146 I agree
I’m a twin and when this show first came out I was so pleased that the relationship between the siblings reflected my relationship with my twin. I can relate so much to both characters. I think this was one of the first shows I watched with good sibling relationship. It also doesn’t showcase twins as a creepy gimmick that a majority of shows and horror movies do. The twins are very different and are presented as not one entity!
My siblings and I are all very close and consider each other best friends. Mabel and Dipper's relationship was one of my favorite things about the show, I wish there were more positive sibling relationship shows out there.
Same
Gravity falls was and still is the best TV show ever seen
f a c t s
True!
"Its unnatural for siblings to get along as well as you two do."
- Quote,
Grunkle Stan
"Do you believe in ghosts?"
"I believe you're a dork"
Yeah, that's my twin and I.
Stan isn’t real
Bill isn’t real
But dipper is

Are you sharing the same room ?
We did until we moved out of the house. We tried to sleep in 2 separate bedrooms, but it felt to awkward and lonely.
Well, I guess relationship between Dipper and Mabel are not so weirdly rare.

I know they have their quarrels from time to time, but the love Dipper and Mabel have for each other is so precious. They really do care for one another and would do anything for each other.
I didn't even know Alex had a twin.

1:04 This scene is my favorite example of this from the series.
This show is definitely a love letter to his and his twin's childhood 😌🥺

I swear my sister and I were meant to be twins cus we were always joined at the hip growing up and we still have each other's backs and literally do not give a shit abt what the other sibling does
My older sister and I have been mistaken for twins often enough to where I’ve started thinking we actually are.
Thank you for this! I have not re-watched Gravity Falls in a while, but I really loved dipper and mabels relationship
Anyone who disliked is just jealous of dipper and mabel’s unbreakable bond
Aww thanks 😊
This is almost exactly how me and my younger sister are. We’re really chaotic together and when we get mad at each other it never lasts more then a couple days. We always punch and trip each other jokingly and stuff like that too
This makes me feel happy as a twin myself. My relationship with my brother is almost exactly like this.
This is the cutest thing ever and just adds to one of my favorite shows ever
All named “Babe”
After the movie lol).
I have recurring nightmares about losing her, or her getting hurt.
i can honestly agree as someone who is the youngest of three siblings no matter what i do or they do we always forgive each other.
As a twin myself, I couldn't agree more on the sibling relationship aspect shared. I have 5 other siblings and it's just not the same. I can't imagine how my life would've been without my twin there.
Hearing Alex’s real voice is so confusing, it almost doesn’t sound real..

Dipper and Mabel are very important to me in a way. I am a triplet, which has its differences from twins. We are fraternal just like Dipper and Mabel. These two characters remind me a lot of the relationship with my siblings and it makes me so happy.
Alex hirsch is officially one of my favourite people

2:35 when I watched this show as a kid I never thought about it the way Alex explained it. I was always mad Mabel got her way. But watching the way he explains the point of view of each sibling changed my view of Mabel and reminded me that the twins are just kids and each of them have their own flaws
Awkward sibling hug needed here. Actually no, sincere sibling hug

Man, I didn't realize until years later that their sibling dynamic is one of the best I've seen in TV
