DSO has 5 records out and still active. Im going to see them in Copenhagen in oct. The two songs you have reacted to, are very Swing and metal, but they mix a lot of other genres too. "Guerilla Lament", and "Celebremos lo Inevitable" has latin vibes, "Vodka inferno" is more russian mood, "Jigsaw Hustle" is a disco song, "Lucy fears the morning star" is metal/opera. They mix metal, swing, jazz, opera, pop, disco, tango latin, classic and lot of other genres. Always doing the unespected.
I think what you're hearing that sounds familiar is all the classic swing hooks they utilize. Music has been inspired by these classic grooves for like 100 years now, so whether you listen to pop, rock, hip hop, jazz, etc. a lot of the hooks are rooted in these original swing melodies which DSO utilizes almost exactly at they were written 100 years ago, but then they layer on all these additional metal, orchestral, etc. elements. But the main melodies and hooks are like basically swing standards almost note for note.
I don't know whether you have heard of the old prog rock group Magna Carta. Glen Stuart was said to have had a 5 octave range, but I believe he mostly sang harmony behind Chris Simpson and not all that much in front. The only 2 times I recall his showing his range were in April Song on the Seasons album, which I can only find online in the full album, and in a showoff section in the long narrative/song "Lord of the Ages" ua-cam.com/video/5VmZj_8qvGM/v-deo.html I think the April Song m.ua-cam.com/video/N1QoyCjHn5c/v-deo.html 9:30 , That Was Yesterday ua-cam.com/video/rBEmsmaDSzE/v-deo.html , and Scarecrow m.ua-cam.com/video/7x2azriuNlA/v-deo.html are my favourites. Seasons and Lord of the Ages are their best known albums, and two of the few albums where I found all tracks were worth hearing more than once - and some tracks still worth hearing 40 years on.
The name of the genre is Avantgarde Metal. It's not just swing, as you will see when you react to other songs of theirs. Talking about that... recommendations: Poetic Pitbull Revolution Bedlam Sticks Vodka Inferno Black Box Messiah (Video) Superhero Jagganath (Video) Jigsaw Hustle War Painted Valentine (Video) Celebremos lo Inevitable (Video) Malign Monologues Out Came the Hummingbirds I won't tell you which, if any, are similar to what you've heard, but you'll notice that you can expect one thing from DSO and that's being unexpected. I know it is a longish list, but I severely cut down and this means there are sides to DSO you won't hear in the songs on this list. Also you would sure miss out if you just went for those with videos, as some of my favourites don't have any (not saying the ones with vids are bad, they're awesome). The list is chronological from earliest album to most recent, but the order doesn't really matter at all, as even songs from the same album can sound vastly different. Maybe start with Poetic Pitbull Revolution as it also is from Butcher's Ballroom like the first one you reacted to, just to make that point and then maybe jump around a bit and mix those with and without vids? So... Superhero Jagganath after that, maybe?
Amazing reaction my friend Jmax!!....You are the right person to make a reaction video and give us your opinion about this incredible singer...In 2017, the music world was shocked by the bursting onto the scene of a 22-year-old singer named Dimash Kudaibergen, who performed on the famous Chinese competition show for professional singers called “The Singer”... It was just it was necessary for this young man to make his first appearance, making a cover of one of the most difficult songs in the world, a famous French composition called "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Détresse", to be considered from that moment on as the best singer in the entire planet....No one in the musical field had ever seen a human being, being able to reach vocal ranges above 7 octaves and several semitones, that is, all 88 keys of a digital piano, which reaches a little more than 7 octaves and as if that weren't enough, sing the more than 12 languages...Since then all kinds of experts (Vocal coachs, singers, musicians, analysts, singing teachers, youtubers, reactors, etc.) have dedicated themselves to reviewing their presentations to try to understand how someone can sing this way...The incredible thing is that that presentation in China was in 2017 but what Dimash has done in these 5 years is to further improve his wide vocal range, which is currently practically above of the 8 octaves... The Covid pandemic stopped his concerts worldwide, all with tickets sold in just seconds, via the internet, but at the same time it ended up catapulting him to the top of popularity worldwide...Anyway, since I think you are one of those reactors who have not yet met this impressive singer, here is the link of that presentation in China in 2017, with the song S.O.S. and I would like you to mention my name as the person who recommended him to you...You have to be prepared because your channel will explode with an avalanche of views, comments and new subscribers....I leave you one more recent video than the others, so it does not have the same number of views as the previous ones, which have millions of views, but it is a more complete video, with an intro, subtitles in several languages and with the improved quality of audio and sound....ua-cam.com/video/bDX3FhmyNac/v-deo.html

and Ricera Dell'anima for the best clarinet solo of your life
I only learned about this band because of you, Jmax, and can't thank you and whoever recommended it to you enough. Love this band's music!
They are awesome live. People dance a lot. It's weird for a metal concert but I love it.
Agreed. They put on a crazy show!
Dayum this song is too fun to listen to! Nice!

I LOVE Swing, but I love encountering new riffs in Swing even more.
Pun intended...

I'm staying for the Diablo. :)
Diablo Swing Orchestra is a band I would expect to hear in a Danny Elfman movie, just saying. Great stuff.
Pretty good swing
