I've made this potato/carrot/nutritional yeast cheese, and my 5 years old nephew loves it! He didn't realized that it wasn't real cheese and alwas asks me to make more.
I had a sandwich maker YEARS ago and I had forgotten how awesome they were! Now I have to get one for my children to enjoy their sandwiches! Thanks for the reminder you two:). By the way I love the cheese sauce. I make ALOT of it and we add it to many dishes!
This is going in between two tortillas in a quesadilla maker I have similar to your sandwich maker. Plus some pickled jalapeños!!!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!
I've never been so excited for a recipe! The only thing I miss about my non-vegan lifestyle is the grilled cheese with tomato soup. I can't wait to try!!! 😋
What a great recipe! I agree this looks like quite a bit of comfort...Thanks for all the kitchen inspiration-You guys make me smile and want to make all of your recipes! It's so important to have fun in the kitchen and it's wonderful to watch You two do just that. 🌞🙏🌞
Rebeca Velasco If you ever come to Wicklow, Ireland they have an incredible (mostly) vegan cafe! They also sell delcious products all around Ireland. 💖
A massive thumbs up to this!! Might have to buy a sandwich toaster just for this recipe! That sauce recipe would be awesome as a mac & cheese sauce too. Thanks guys!
In the Netherlands we are all addicted to "tosti's" (as we call them). I think it is impossible to find a student without a sandwich maker. Even some universities/schools have sandwich makers available for students (and teachers) to turn a home brought simple cheese sandwich in to a tasty tosti for lunch. When I went vegan, I sold mine. But... I really should try your toasty version! It makes me think back of all good times when I was a kid and a student. I think I'll use a pan with lid instead. And when it is as tasty as it looks, I'll buy a new "tosti ijzer" toasty iron/sandwich maker.
Looks so good! Thank you! I call that thing a sandwich squisher here in my household. It's also tasty to use mayo on the outside of the bread instead of oil to crisp it up.
To get that crimped look all the way around, you could rotate the sandwiches halfway through the grilling time. To crimp them crisscross and makes for easier slicing and a better presentation, you could even slip half a slice of tomato.
No idea why I've been recommended this video 5 years after the fact, but here I am. I've actually come across some pretty great melty vegan cheeses, but they're absurdly expensive. This seems like a great alternative.
Hey Dave and Steve--I make your recipes all the time and they're always great!! I also have both your cookbooks. I have a couple of suggestions for this recipe (to make it a bit healthier) because I make something similar. First, instead of the 1/4 sunflower oil (at 482 calories), you can use 1/4 cup cashews (at 170 calories). It will be just as creamy and (the calorie difference nothwithstanding), the oil from the nuts is healthier than extracted oil. Second, from all the vegan cheese I've researched, you're apparently supposed to cook the cheese mixture if it contains a starch or it will be grainy. I'd suggest cooking the mixture in a saucepan until the cheese turns shiny (an indication the starch has cooked). Cheers! Sile H.
Erika Thomas My chocolate lab wouldn't even touch this shit. My oldest son is a vegan and I spend twice as much money just to feed a him as much as it is to feed my wife, my youngest son and myself.
Dusted off my breville and made these for my lunch today... so awesome! Like being back in the 80's!! Can't wait for the new cookbook lads! Thanks so much for all your amazing recipes. Have a request... vegan parmigiana (using Julie's Parmesan?) can't find a decent recipe yet!
Hiya guys, Tesco own brand smoked vegan cheese (and their other cheeses) melts and is great for a short cut melting cheese. I think yours looks much healthier and I think much cheaper in the long road. I bought one of your books and have made so many of the dishes with great success! Also side note the cauliflower and pea Korma is the best 😊
Making this as soon as the new blender is in. Much as I love my grated violife cheese it's so processed. I'd much rather know what exactly is going onto my sandwich! Cheers lads
Just made and ate this. Had it on a floury soft roll with onion heated under the grill.... delicious! Super melty and full of flavour. Definitely will be my cheese and onion fix in future. Better than the real thing. How long do you think this should last in the fridge?
Thank you for this recipe! I love you guys! Im dying to try this but what can i substitute for the oil? Im doing as low fast as i can and i want this spread to be my staple so id like to do one that has no oil. Thank you lads! more power to you!
Oh my goodness! And I thought you were just two pretty faces. You're talented and pretty faces! That sandwich was actually good I made the recipe. Incredible!!! I am on a salt restricted diet so I replace some of the sodium with vinegar and lemon juice and a little bit of Tabasco sauce so I could go without adding any additional salt. Again that sandwich turned out shockingly good. Thank you very much for the recipe. I need to buy your book and see what else you got going on

And maybe some jelly desserts with it too? Love ye're channell and book - The blue one! Hope to visit yere premises in Wicklow soon. Thanks again. Caroline

The Happy Pear delicious, I used Ezekiel bread and paired it with Amy's vegan tomato bisque. Didn't look as pretty as yours but you two are genius. ❤️
I used to eat these all the time when I was little! My mom used to make ham and cheese ones! I'm gonna have to try this, looks so amazing!
Such a throwback! 😄😉😜

Brilliant! I can now make healthy grilled cheese sandwiches for my finicky teenage son, and he loves onions
Delighted to hear it! 😄👍🙌
I lived in the UK for 10 plus years and two years was spent in Wales. I can now make proper cheese on toast! Yes, God is good. ;-)
violife slices melt quite well in toasties in my experiance. This does look next level though and I will be trying it asap.

Awesome guys, will try this one for sure. Thx!
Definitely, it's a must do! 😄😋🙌
I make a cheese similar to this, but with more spices. I use it like nacho cheese sauce. I’ll have to try it this way. TFS!
No idea why I've been recommended this video 5 years after the fact, but here I am.

I don't think that it's necessary to cook the mixture beforehand, because it gets heated up in the toaster anyway...
Not enough.
It's great to make your own adjustments to suit how you prefer! 😄👍
Thanks for the suggestion. I always try to cook without oil
@@kx2174 Oh I'm copy/pasting this into notes on my phone to give it a go. Thanks x
I just made this and IT WAS AMAZING!!!
Woooooo go Angie!!!! 😄😋🙌
I make a very similar cheese sauce but I add banana peppers to give it a bit of a kick. It's soooo good on macaroni or as a dipping sauce for pizza!
Nice idea! Absolutely add it to EVERYTHING!!!! 😄😋🙌
This cheese is so good!!! Thanks for making and sharing!
Delighted you enjoyed! 😄😋🙌
