Is the new McLaren GT a proper GT supercar? 2000km Euro tour review

  • The McLaren GT is the first of McLaren's new GT model line, designed to compete head on with the likes of the Aston Martin DB11 and Bentley Continental GT. To find out if a mid-engined car can really be a true GT, I took one first to the chilly North of England, then across to Le Mans in France and finally on to Saint Tropez.

      Some of the things I like about Harry & his reviews are that he seems to be a bottomless pool of knowledge with a common sense, no "rah-rah!!" sort of commenting on his latest topic. He just tells you how he sees it and makes you want to relax in front of your computer and enjoy his presentation. Henry Catchpole is working his way into a future as maybe Harry's protégé. His style is already much the same as Harry, in that he's usually quite calm, well spoken, and very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed his work with the Aston Martin Vantage AMR and the Porsche 911 Singer. These two gentlemen have "settled to the top" of the business in the last few years and I've become one of the many subscribers. I believe we'll have many more excellent videos to look forward to...

    Everybody knows there is an issue with the reliability of the Maclarens and the best way to shut up the mouth of your competitors is giving one to Harry for one or two weeks. He is a real profesional (not these child youtubers) that has done, again, a great video that is also beautiful.
    Excellent.

    • @rickmiles85
      @rickmiles85 4 роки тому +36

      @@allensaunders449 The important thing to remember: Harry doesn't stay within a 10 mile radius of his house to require the few month test period. He takes it into europe where it gets shaken down. If it is going to break or have manufacturing gremlins, then it will show on these trips. IMO, two weeks is plenty of time to get a good feel for these cars.

But also, I think that Harry, being English and somewhat accustomed to supercars, is willing to put up with English and European manufacturing flaws. The way he palmed off issues of Range Rover reliability in a previous video was quite telling.

    Harry, I don't even understand cars as much as the ordinary person here but you make me feel something for each one of them. Your 'reviews' are more like tag-along experiences with an automobile savant that doesn't feel the need to follow anyone's agenda ("I wouldn't get THAT" when describing the carbon-fibre details haha!). Thanks for the vids and keep doing your thing!

    seems like McLaren will sell you a car... and then charge you 30k+ to actually finish it... I sort of would expect things like electrically operated steering wheel and seat adjustment in a £200,000 car without having to pay extra...

    We always used to go to Le Mans via Le Havre on the overnight ferry. So much more civilised than Calais, decent meal and a couple of beers, good night’s kip with a cabin on the ferry. Off the ferry for breakfast, then a leisurely drive to Le Mans with coffee and croissants along the way and still arrive at a sensible time to get the tents set up. Used the same route on the way back. Got the overnight ferry on the Sunday and was back in time to go to work on the Monday having had a proper night’s sleep again.

    Great video Harry. Most people won't have the chance to experience such high-end machinery, so it's great to see and hear how it actually feels to live with a McLaren in the real world. I'm an admirer of Norman Foster's work too, ever since my visit to the McLaren Tech Center back in 2006. That's an experience I'll never forget: that building really is something else. The attention to detail throughout the project blew my mind.
