All this time I thought they were going to pull the "love triangle" trope between Spider-Punk, Gwen, and Miles, but then I noticed how they didn't go for that direction and made Spider-Punk a real homie to Miles instead.
I’m SO very thankful that they didn’t do that
He actually helped Miles more than anything
I was very glad to see it
And Miles actually likes him: "How are you even cooler under your mask?"
you could say he's a real Hobie
“Wow you guys make a great team”
“I hate teams”
“I thought you were in a band”
“I hate consistency”
Bro Hobie is my favorite Spider-Man now😭😭
"The babys an anarchist"
And
"It's a metaphor for capitalism"
I absolutely cackle at all his interactions
@@rattian1976 “you poop on this establishment, respect”
Hobie is such a good example of the great writing in this movie. At his first appearance, you directly sympathize with Miles in that feeling of not wanting to be shown up. Add to that his initial snarky and sarcastic quips and you definitely get the feeling of skepticism towards his character. The rest of the movie subtly breaks down that preconception. His questioning of Miles as they are walking to meet Miguel provides the first clue that while he is rather aloof, he isn’t arrogant. He has the humility to admit that there are things he doesn’t know, but he still retains a very cheeky nature. His admiration of Peter B.’s daughter provides a further insight that his ideology isn’t for show and that he genuinely admires and cares about the merits of rebellious behavior, a fact solidified by his impromptu resignation. And it all comes full circle when he foresightedly provides Gwen with the home-made dimension-hopping armband: his anarchic ways weren’t just window-dressing or comic relief, they were a serious conviction that provided integral support to the two leads. I don’t even know how much screen-time Hobie got but my Lord (and Miller) did they use it well.
"A metaphor for capitalism" nearly killed me 😂
LOL
The "To be continued" card took the wind out of me on this one. My GF and I were like "That's a gag, right? The movie just started." Then we looked at the clock and realized we were over 2 hours in.
Truly amazing. My only criticism is that the third entry is taking a whole year to come out.
better than the 5 year wait between itsv and this one
its coming out in march! so only a couple months away😢
I heard they made atsv and btsv back to back but they couldn’t just release a four hour movie + the rest is still getting worked on. At least we don’t gotta wait too long compared to 5 yrs.
@@AzzyRiah you say that like we wouldn’t all sit through a five hour spiderverse marathon

I'd pay for a detailed documentary series going into the production of this movie
Same!!!
ive watched a version of this for the first movie so theres a chance they will release another n maybe include it in the dvd release? hopefully !!
Oh I couldn’t agree more. There seem to be one or two clips on Twitter of them doing the 3-D animation work behind-the-scenes without giving anything away during the production phase, but that is about it right now. I would absolutely love to see a full length documentary going into detail of how they were truly able to create this piece of animation and visuals from start to finish.
Me too. I'd watch the shit outta that
I'm a big movie buff and I'd pay good money to see this at home. After I watch the film a few more times of course!
You know it's a good movie when its only flaw is that it ends
Same, everyone was ready for that action sequence. But we have to wait til March 29th 2024
So true. I didn’t know it was part 1 of 2 so I was very disappointed lmao
I had this hilarious moment with myself like 10 minutes before the ending where I was looking at all of what was happening and went "no wonder this is 2 and a half hours long, they have a whole other movie to still tell." Then the credits started and I realized that I was more right than I knew. The pacing was so good that I didnt even realize that 3 hours had flown by.
The reaction people had to the ending made me hate humanity. Be grateful you just watched a masterpiece, and you are not owed an epic ending. I thought the ending was amazing personally, never been more shocked at a films ending other than Spiderman Far From Home

the art style battle between gwen and her dad in her universe is so subtle but so impactful to the story and their emotions. The dad being caring and comforting (red) and gwen battling lonliness and depression (blue)
The best part was the colors switching up when Gwen confessed.
the way the paint was melting like the walls were crying made my jaw DROP during her emotional scene
During their big convo toward the end, you could see the colors like dripping sadly down the walls in blues and purples and that was so striking to me
It also represents the political differences between people. He is clearly in the thin blue line and she’s very much liberal
the entire movie up till he quits the police force she is cool colors and he is warm tones, but the second they hug their entire palettes switch to be a full spectrum, so beautiful, it’s like they both needed each other to be whole.
Fun fact: Across The Spider-Verse is now the 3rd best film of all time on IMDB with a rating of 9.1, sitting below Shawshank at number 1 with a 9.3, and The Godfather Part 1 at number 2 with a 9.2. This means that The Dark Knight which was previously 3rd with a score of 9.0 is now 4th on the list, making Across The Spider-Verse the best animated film of all time, and also the best superhero movie of all time. That is a very big achievement, and very much deserved.

Spider-Punk is the epitome of chaotic good.
Also extremely funny and one of the best parts of the movie
As a lawful good paladin, I need a Spider-Punk in my life to keep me humble.
Not really he’s neutral he helps miles because he doesn’t like the authority that miguel represents
@@chapman2001 I would argue that he would fall into chaotic good because chaotic good characters do what their conscience tells them to do. They do not care about following society’s rules either. Those types of characters will break the rules to do what’s right and may rebel against authority to try to bring about societal change, but that's just my opinion.
Get you a friend like Hobbie fr
The moment when they realize he’s in the wrong dimension is so terrifying and so tense that I had my hands over my mouth the whole time. I went to watch this movie with my father, and I noticed that anytime I glanced at him, we had a very similar or even identical physical stance, like our reactions were in sync. Really awesome that I noticed that in this movie, that has an incredible family theme
The dialogue with his mother, seemingly in denial was creepy af.
@@DennisSchmitzyeah, super creepy. my father said afterwards that what tipped him off was that the mom said she had to look after “you and I,” and that if the father was still alive she would’ve included him in that statement. What tipped me off was Gwen in his room

Saw the movie with my family, I didn’t even realise that my hand was covering my mouth I was blown away-
And then marvel had the nerve to drop that massive cliffhanger and say wait for a year 😭

I really, really liked The Spot in this movie. Such an obscure, random villain, yet, he’s so fun. I love how he’s going into the multiverse for the sake of proving that he isn’t a “Villain of the Week” and an arch nemesis for Miles. So goofy yet, he’s so terrifying. I wish he had more of a presence in the second act but, I’m really excited to see him in Beyond the Spider-Verse.
He went from being non-menacing to menacing as hell really quickly.
Like I already knew he was gonna be an issue because dude is basically a dimensional traveler that basically can't be stopped
But fucking seeing him become like that in the film was amazing
when the next movie comes out i am gonna explode aaaaaahjskejwj
The reason the Spot works so freaking well is because he represents Mile's relationship to the multiverse. The average writer would have had the multiversal collapse occur when the plot needed it to happen, but what's infinitely more satisfying is a character to simplify the complexities of the multiverse, and to give a motive to the unimaginable. At first, Miles is very playful and naive to the concept of the multiverse, which fits Spot's banter at the beginning of the movie. However, as Miles confronts the greater dangers of the multiverse, the Spot becomes exponentially more powerful, threatening, and terrifying as a result. He might just be my favorite cinematic spiderman villain.

Spiderpunk was actually insanely wholesome and real with everyone.

Spider-Punk alone took the animators 3 years to animate. This movie is truly revolutionary. As Nick said, the first movie was a demo for what the animation team could do. This movie is what happens when you let that same animation team actually go off. And not just that. Everything in this movie is cranked up to 12. So much effort has been put into this movie, there’s so many Easter eggs in the background. The onomatopoeia in the Mumbattan dimension IS IN HINDI. HOW MUCH MORE COULD YOU WISH FOR IN A MOVIE.

So awesome how they introduced a C-teir villain like the Spot and made him a compelling character. Especially with how his origin started out from the first film which is very funny to me. I honestly thought he was just gonna be a one off villain at the start and that was it but he progressively became more of a threat and more interesting as the movie went along with his ability to destroy other dimensions. I’m really excited to see where they take him in the next film.
This movie made me excited to go to the movies again. I felt so alive and electrified from the second it started to the moment it ended. I knew Spiderverse was objectively good after the first one, but I *felt* it after AtSV

Saw it in theaters opening night, and while I could write a 20 page essay on all of the fantastic things I absolutely adore about this movie, since everyone's already gotten those points down I wanna mention something I haven't seen that many people mention yet. After going back to the first movie, SO MANY THINGS MAKE SO MUCH MORE SENSE. There are loads of small details or one-off comments that connect DIRECTLY to what we learned in the 2nd movie, and DAMN is it cool. The sequel has been out for two days and it's already got me theorizing and trying to connect all these different story pieces together trying to predict where the third installment will go lol
Something I really loved about this movie was the small things. I loved how in the beginning of the movie when the family is at the meeting, the lady says Miles has a B in Spanish and Rio snaps at him and there’s a little Puerto Rican flag in the animation, explaining why she’s so ashamed. I love how they have little editors notes like a real comic would. I love how even the most minuscule details of a character’s design are important to pay attention to. For example, Rio’s eyes are brown normally but when Miles goes to Earth-42 by accident, her eyes are green and before they reveal that he’s in the wrong universe, only those who paid specific attention would realize that something was wrong. And even if you didn’t pay attention you still have a sneaking suspicion that something is wrong, because something about Rio doesn’t look quite right
It's the best animated movie I have ever seen!!! The story the visuals and the characters were all perfect
Its the best movie you have ever seen .
Hobbie is the definition of true bro
Who is Hobbie?
@@bighand1530 spider punk
And to believe all this started with a fly
For those who don’t know Stanley saw a fly on the wall and thought “it be cool to see a guy who could climb walls” and decided to make spider-man a teen to relate to modern times and a mask to show anyone can be a spider-man he was so right(Shoutout to the co creator who aided in spider man creation)
the butterfly effect goes crazy
butterfly effect at its finest
My jaw dropped in every single scene, it had me hooked with the color theory and cinematography in the first 10 minutes
I wrote an essay in art school about games and animation not embracing the full potential of their medium. Only for this film to fucking blast a fucking 10/10 perfect example of what animation can achieve. Its honestly perfect. The music, the storytelling, the fact it takes itself serously for a change and the fucking amazing animation which for the last few days im still wrapping my head around how densely packed this shit was with fucking visual pop rocks which were an absolute treat to watch.
The fact 1000 Artists and Animators worked on this from all different departments of animation like 3D,2D,stopmotion Hell even Lego this movie was a Masterpiece
Nothing in this movie quite hits the heights of miles' leap or faith from the first one for me but MY GOD ITS SO GOOD I was foaming at the mouth wanting to watch it again. I was tearing up half the time at just how BEAUTIFUL it is
They should run all 3 movies back to back to back in theatres when beyond comes out.
I can see that happening
that would be like 6 hours 😭
@@beanbagburritoWho says I’m not watching allat‼️‼️⁉️
I was tearing up at the ending like I felt like it stabbed me in the back. I was fan girl-ing during the movie. Even when the screen said “to be continued” I was like “just watch it’s gonna come back” then when the music before the credits started playing I was like “it’s gonna come back after this” and it didn’t. My feelings of not wanting a movie to end has never felt so strong. It is now my favorite movie and I am definitely going to watch the next movie when it comes back.
I dont know what else can define "love letter" more than spiderverse
Not because it was a sad ending or anything, but because it meant alot to a person whos life began with loving this character/characters, i went to the bathroom after the movie and cried in the stall. Every frame was beautifully artistic with a soundtrack to match, not to mention the story being the most human and beautiful and trafic that i have seen in cinema. Its the best time i have ever had in a movie theater.
Is it me or was this movie also super emotional. Like I remember tearing up twice during the movie and one of them was when Gwen was apologizing to her dad. Idk man this movie also got the sad moments as well
Every time I rewatch this movie it gets even better. Did more with the multiverse concept in 2 hours (which flew by to feel like 10 mins btw) than the MCU has done in years
“Babe it’s time for your Spider-Verse worship hour”
“Yes, dear”
Saw this in theaters yesterday, and i can say it was the best animated movei even seen
Same
sameee haha
This movie was over 2 hours long and by the time it reached the end I was basically praying for it to keep going. I never wanted this to end. I didn’t even know it was setting up a third movie. Absolutely the best superhero movie I have ever seen, for sheer spectacle and heart and vision.
anyone else think this is movie of the year so far?
this is the first movie i ever watched day 1 in my first ever cinema's showing of this film, and it is easily one of my favourite movies ever (even though it's hard to call it *a* movie since it's more like half a movie, if you know how it ends what i said makes sense)
It is *a* movie. It's a part 1 the same way Infinity War is. Nobody is walking around saying Infinity War is not a movie. Personally I thought the ending was brilliant, never seen that before.
@@myweirdsecondchannelwithap9070 the difference is Infinity War is a complete story: Thanos wanted to get the stones, he got them, he won, end of movie. It was also a part 1 of 2, but part 1 had a satisfying conclusion. This movie doesn’t, It just ends. I agree that i’ve never seen an ending like that before, and it was amazing, but there’s not really any conclusion. it’s the most “Part 1 of 2” film i’ve ever seen if that makes sense
@@I_Eated_The_Soap Across The Spider-Verse is a complete story as well. The movie begins with Gwen quitting the band she was in, the movie ends with Gwen making her own band.
One thing I don't see people talking about is that there is this constant sense of dread in this movie, it doesn't start when Spot goes full interdimensional, it doesn't start when Miles learns about his father's destiny, it doesn't start when Miles arrives in 42, no, it starts all the way back when Miles is talking to his dad overlooking the Alchemax reconstruction site, it's a very quiet and wholesome scene but it feels like there's something boiling underneath (same goes for the upside down Gwen scene and *specially* for the water tower scene with Rio), from that point on there is this constant anxiety that you're about to see something horrible, and it just keeps growing and growing all the way to the credits, you think you can release the tension in certain scenes like the 3 ones I mentioned before, but then you realize that no, it can get much higher, that's one of the reasons you leave the movie immediately wanting more... I felt like this in No Way Home as well, but it was a mere fraction of how it feels in Spiderverse 2, and the buildup didn't last the whole movie, it had a major breaking point when Tobey and Andrew showed up, kinda like their presence was calming
Watched it three consecutive times: Once in IMAX, then in 4DX, then VIP, and I don’t regret doing so! As a long-time film enthusiast, this is one of the best films ever made - easily making it into the top 10 imo
I got back from watching it in 4DX a few hrs ago. What an experience!! Its the perfect movie for 4DX. Getting tossed around while watching a masterpiece brought me so much joy.
@@Grey_fox12 definitely the best film to watch in 4DX! Blew my mind how well it worked together (reminded me of watching “The Batman” in 4DX, although with Across the Spider-verse, it took it up a notch)
i had impossibly high expectations for this movie and it somehow beat my expectatipns.
Up there with Klaus, this is the best animation that has ever been made.
The first 25 minutes up until the title card is some of the best shit ever
this movie felt like the most amazing five minutes of my life, it felt so short that when the “to be continued” screen came up, i thought it was a gag
I like how the movie uses similar shots but Ina. Different context. Like the pigeons or walking through that visions academy hallways but under neath it, or swinging near the generic soda brand sign. This extends to the jokes too. It's awesome
THIS MOVIE made me cry 3 times, it’s so beautiful and I can’t wait to see the next one
as an animation student, these movies are changing my future. the possibilities are becoming endless, all of my class owes spider verse the world
I saw a spider on the side of the tv while watching this movie I'm not even kidding..
the only consistent complaint ive seen is that it ended like that, but thats because it was literally originally called part 1, its the first part of the story so obviously it's not gonna resolve everything, that complaint will be fixed next march tho when the sequel comes out. the other complaint ive seen is that the pacing in the first half is too slow, but for me that made it better, i loved the character moments and the writing was amazing. i think once the next movie comes out (once again, in march, not even a very long wait), the two combined will be an 11/10 animated experience
I had no idea it was part 1 so reasonably I hated the ending. Great movie though
@@commanderponds8308 that makes sense! tbh i wish they kept part 1 in the name so people realized going in, it would've stopped some of the disappointment with the ending
@@duckybald Oh definitely. If I had known going in it was going to end on a cliffhanger I wouldn’t have been nearly as disappointed
This movie was simply fantastic from top to bottom, never did I think the Into the Spider-Verse could be topped in terms of story, animation, and overall hype. Yet here I am buying my second IMAX ticket to see this film again! I reviewed the film on my channel with my colleagues, and I feel the same exact way going in for my third watch as I did for my initial one in terms of enjoyment. THE BAR FOR ANIMATED FILMS HAS BEEN RAISED AGAIN!!
The fact that Beyond the Spiderverse is already coming out in less than a year makes this even more hype.
What's crazy is that it happened that way with the comic too. When he first came out, he was very underappreciated as a character. It was only years later when they brought Peter back did they accept miles and then he blew up
You know its good when...
1. Nick is moaning at how good the movie is.
2. Its the longest animated movie ever and at the end you want more of it.
Actually, After beyond the spider verse there’s the spider woman spin-off movie and a possible tv series being considered for Sony and for Phil lord and Chris Miller

The only bad thing about this movie is the fact that my local Burger King ran out of the Spider Verse Burger
I'm seriously loving how Spider-Verse is changing the game within the animation industry. Seeing more animated movies willing to be more experimental and more creative with their animation styling and actual taking risks instead of playing it safe or average. Truly showcasing the limitless , boundless, high imaginative potential of animation as a medium as a whole and what its capable of.
spider-punk is so baba 😍😍
Spot really didn't hold back because of that bagel 💀
the moment when miles realises he's in the wrong dimension is ELECTRIFYING. my friend and i first noticed the spots in the window and on the walls as miles was talking to his mom (on earth-42), then we noticed how they multiplied and how when he went onto the rooftop they were everywhere. the fact that a few ink splatters made the hair on the back of my neck stand up is a testament to how incredible this movie is. i fully don't think i'll ever see a movie that good again.
I went to watch this on 10th June, my birthday with 11 of my friends. Then at night on the same day, I went out to party with those same friends. And boy, all the time, we were all obsessing over how good this movie was. Just stuffing food in our mouths and talking about this, and the time flew by. And everyone agreed. This was the best movie we had ever watched. We all even created our versions of BTSV together lmao. A week has passed, but this movie just hasn't gotten off my head. It was THAT good.
Best birthday of my life.
Happy belated Birthday
Who knew perfection could be topped. The last one was like an introduction this one dives deeper into the character’s relationships and feeling with each other as well as them selves. We really get to know all of them a whole lot more. Deep messages are also baked into this movie where are you an advocate that everyone has a fate and things happen for a reason or are you a destiny defier. Fate vs free-will. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Miles is growing up, his parents miss him and want to spend more time with him and act disappointed when he is not with them and I’m sad because our of our hourglasses run out eventually and I wish he spent more time with his family while he still could instead of chasing someone he loves which I get it but would you rather spend time with people who are there for you always or a little white dove? Speaking of which the relationship between the two is expanded and broken down a little with the seeds of mistrust sewing. We know more about Gwen and where she came from, who she is, what she has to deal with and new characters. These movies broken the barrier of what animation could be and was the first to do so with other studios taking note and copying but Spider-Man spider-verse will always and forever feel like Spier-Man spider-verse. The Matrix changed filmmaking and this changed animation. I understand now that there is no limit to perfection and there is no bar, the limit is only our imaginations. ❤🕷
This is sincerely the greatest movie I have ever watched. I cannot stop thinking about it.
nah bro called me dummy... i feel violated
One thing to note about the symbolism in the message of this movie, in the movie poster you see that Miguel and the other Spidermen are wearing their masks, embodying what Spiderman is SUPPOSED to be. But Gwen and Miles are unmasked, representing their transition to becoming their own characters instead of the model they need to be.
