As always, it's not about being for or against recasts, it's about why is there one company which seems to draw all the recasts, and just so happens to be the company who has the most 'interesting' business practices? The thing is, the recast beast is a consequence of their actions, not just some entity that appeared magically from the air one day.
Hey macca, apparently the next last chance to buy is going to be knight heads, and ad mech units, they had a banner up but they quickly took it down, Just a heads up for anyone.
Remember when they had an accident in the US warehouse where they knocked over the bits shelves and instead of trying to separate it all, they just sold it by the pound?
I have a circa 2006 gamesworkshop catalogue aka bitz book from the now closed store I used to go to. Pretty cool piece of gw history imo. Employee gave it to me when they got a new updated bitz book in.
I member the old mail order catalouge here in the UK, which they kept under the till in GW stores. where you could get individual metal models from metal sets for around £2 and get a single cadian sprue (5 guys) for a fiver. Awesome times ordering stuff from that catalouge. I also remember a day at GW Newcastle (Newcastle in the UK) where they sold off all the metal models in blister packs before finecast came out (what a disaster that was, so many exchanges, my friend bought a inquisitor, exchanged it because it was shite, exchanged the second one because it was shite, had to exchange the 3rd and then the shop didn't have anymore so they just refunded him) so they just sold all the blister packs off for 50p for ones with a single mini and £1 for ones with multiple or a big mini (like a tomb spyder). That was a awesome day, i was probably around 14, and borrowed £30 off my mam and came home with a whole carrier bag, busting at the seams with minis.
My stepdad used to be a manager of a one man store, so everything i got as a teenager from GW was half price (and this is in the UK too, and over 10 years ago, was pretty cool getting cadian command squads for £6, i would have to pay £22.50 now) and damn that discount was nice. But i totally agree, even over here the models are way too expensive, i only ever buy limited edition charachters now (and got a squad of plastic sisters of battle when they came out) and me and my stepdad now both play bolt-action, which is similar quality to GW (obvioulsy things aren't as ornate, but the details are just as good, especially on the newer stuff) but when you pay around £20 (sometimes less) for 28 multi-part plastic models, and less than £10 for army books, (i'm not 100% sure of these next prices as i haven't got them in years) £25 for 10 cadians designed in the early 2000's which used to be £18 for a box of 20 and £25 for army books which used to be £8 for the thinner ones and £12 for the thicker ones and foreigners have to pay even more, ridiculous amounts in austrilasia, you really realise how much GW is ripping you off. I can't afford to get baneblades & imperial knights at the prices they are, £60 for a baneblade (which is what they were) as a centrepiece model is one thing, £85 may not seem like much of a hike, but that £25 is how much i spend on food in 2 weeks, and £85 is nearly my full pay for a week. When i see recast plastic knights for £25, you bet i'm gonna get one.
The recasters are even willing to do deals. I knew a guy who wanted to do a massive Imperial guard army. He approached a couple recasters, bought a few samples then said I how much can I get for $500. He ended up getting something like a 4000point force. Shit ton of infantry, lots of armor, artillery, and the kicker was the company that made the bid threw in a shoe box of bitz.
That's a great idea I should have thought about about it before dropping a fuckton of money in several armies at once. Maybe I now can collect DKOK on the cheap, lol.
The ironic thing with games workshop/ forge world resin is it has no consistency, it can be horrendous quality or really good. And you pay an insane amount.
I have no guilt about buying recasts. I have a DKoK army that is 90% recast. It cost my about a third the price and once it was painted you could not tell which models where FW or recast. Why did I do it? 1. Price gouging. 2. Availability. 3. GW's crooked export price scam. Oh BTW. If people have a problem with it. They can suck it.
joel davison I was using eBay mostly. I have gotten Russian and Chinese recasts. Quality was about the same. Shipping takes about a month mainly because of US customs and where they are coming from.
I’ve had one recast that was actual trash you almost couldn’t put it together but I didn’t say anything then the guy who had the connections with the recast said they’re usually not that bad and gave me a free replacement Wich was in perfect condition
I've followed your comments about the price gouging for Aussies for a while now (always thought it was duties etc but have had my eyes opened). Have you ever discussed whether a lowering of prices might encourage more purchases so they would make less profit per item but have many more sales bringing in more profit overall (or would it?)
In overall rather good video. GW and even FW has made their problem with Recast even worse with their choice. One being that certain models are only sold certain amount of time somewhere. This is something they can do i dont care, but im not gonna travel to UK just to buy that model since they can if they are willing to sell it normally. Second thing is bitz that FW could but are not willing to provide separately. I would buy mk4 jump pacss but since they dont sell them separately i m not paying 100e for ten models when i can just buy the pack separately from recasters. Again GW used to sell jump packs individually (they still might) so we all know they can do it. Prices are just a one thing why people use recasters. With right recasters (like the one im now using) quality is absolutely great.
@@mr_balls390 there are a few, all4wargames, cheap n fast, but miranda is the best one. Best prices and decent casts. All the others are about the same prices and I'm not so sure about their casts.
Next week. I was awake this morning looking for them, and they accidentally put up the picture for next week's Last Chance items for about 5 minutes. All of the imperial knight extra heads and more transfers and even Thallax are going away
The first, and most important question you have to ask yourself is this. Do I own my game or does GW own it ? Re-casting has been a staple of miniature gaming for years among historical players. Simply put people need to remove themselves from the collective mind and own their hobby, then this wouldn't even be an issue. Are you a human or a consumer ?
Bit late, but I actually think you have a point. Recasting GW's IP's is totally illegal in most countries, even for oop bits or for your own enjoyment (dioramas, experimental conversions, etc) just to protect the profit margin of a multi million dollar company. But for myself I really want to make cool action sets and unique conversions/kitbashes, but I can't afford to shill out $60-$120 just to test one model because I'd have to either pay for multiple kits or the insane price gouging of bits retailers. I can't enjoy my hobby because their IP is apparently worth more than my potential business.
@@calastyphon2510 to add more, no one will know its a recast if you don't say it is, are people going to demand to see the receipt assuming it was bought every single time it gets brought out for play/display?
I have a question: As we all know, Forge World has been pulling stuff seemingly at random in addition to last chance to buy (case in point: Iron Hands Contemptor, Magos Dominus w/Rad Cleanser and the Sons of Horus Reaver - the last whih has been brought back with equal lack of fanfare). However, another odd thing has surfaced. The Sicaran Venator remains available but no longer seems to show up when browsing a particular Legion or when filtering by Tanks in the "vehicle section". The Sicaran Arcus doesn't show up in the first case, but DOES in the latter. And of course both show up if you search for them by name. This has got me wondering: What else is not showing up that I am unaware of? Is there anything else left in this weird "being sold but not shown" category? I bet there is.
Just an update to recast. Here is an update on a court order in the US on recasters. GW sued a ton of them to have their website and listing taken down from websites. It must had been planned for a long time to do it all in one go. Here is a link for a good read: gbcinternetenforcement.net/files/caseNo-19-cv-3821/TRO-ORDER.PDF It would be a great material if you can do a video on this!
This is the reason i 3dprint all my vehicles in 40k. Honestly at This point they look just a little bit worse then the real thing. When i lower my layer hight and slow down the print it looks pretty good.
I just want to point out that I was looking at the start collecting fyreslayers box. 100 Canadian dollars VS 140 Australian dollars. And 1 aud buys .97 CAN and has been around parody for years.
Wheels... got an work truck, got one, wanted to convert.... plasticicard and for wheel moulds, hot glue and 50/50 putty.... not perfect but wow some times really good details
I buy about 50% of my stuff from recasters, when you're spending this much on a hobby I feel like i'm shafting them less than they are me.. but a good site I use is Dhgate, try and buy your stuff from the seller Peterwork. That site has a protection layer inbuilt, so it doesn't release your payment to the seller until you confirm it's been received and you're happy with it! He's truly running an amazing service, the recasts are rediculously good in quality. All my contemptors, leviathans were superb, but even my deathkorp krieg infantry were very good and those parts are tiny and very hard to recast i'd imagine. Anyway hope this helps. Oh and his really cheap Epacket shipping method is lightning fast.
+Tom Cornell no problem at all! oh also sometimes he isn't active in the daytime but if look again in the evening and you'll find him. I suspect that's his way of hiding his enterprise from gw haha
thanks :) honestly cant thank ya enough when i get off work will look about as i am eager to get some more Scorpions, Pads etc but that damn last chance to buy got rid of all of that :(
+Tom Cornell no worries at all mate glad I could help. Yah it's a complete nightmare, I have a project in the works where i'm getting the primarch, 10 marines and a contemptor for each legion painted up and then they went and did that -_- ..was so unimpressed. I'm not sure how best to find him on there don't think there's a feature to look for sellers, I'd just search for some kits you're after and when you find one from him just click on his name and it'll take you to his shop. All the best mate :)
Random Questions/Suggestions: When do you think Scoria is going to come out? And you guys should do a list featuring your favorite units in 30k. Doesn't have to be cheese-filled; just units or models that you like because they have interesting rules, play surprisingly well or just look cool. Whatever criteria you prefer.
Awesome! Thanks a ton man. I'll check em out asap. And if Scoria is released in August I'll be in heaven. (Also really excited to see that new "Acastus" Knight with the C-Beams).
it really is a piss take, the plastic contemptor is disgusting and a completely lazily designed kit, intended to force us to buy the expensive fw ones which are in a different league
GW indicates their prices on the populatity of the models and the point costs in their games. If you want to have a compedetive gamelist you need to by certain models. These models are the expensive ones without being expensive to make. A re-cast company doesn't care about this game issue. They infest in a mini, calculate the expence to cast it and take a percentage / marge profit. That makes up the huge price difference.
no idea but a chap called peterwork on tge site dhgate is a fantastic recaster, I'm spreading the word because his products and services are a diamond in the rough in this trade. Give him a go.
Recasters offer a better product for a better price with better quality control and same/better customer service. On top of this you don't feel scammed/ripped off when buying from recasters. There is literally no point in buying from FW anymore, models have no aftermarket value due to recasts and you can't trust FW to provide rules/support for them. If it's cheaper to buy 1 model, silicone and enough resin to make 5-10 copies than it is to buy 2 models from FW then why the fuck would I buy from FW? That website is that russian recasting site, their prices are very expensive. The best recaster in the world sells Ghouliman for €7.78 and all other characters for €3.89 - €5. All 7 Juan Diaz Daemonettes for €9.08, Juan Diaz Seekers for €11.68 and all Horus Heresy characters for around €15. GW could eliminate 90% of recasters by lowering their prices by 50%, you can't sell a product for 10-20 times it's production cost in resin anymore. This is why FW is an outdated model that no longer works, they need to fire whomever is in charge of FW and replace them with someone who actually knows the market. GWs prices are so expensive one recaster made an injection mold and is selling Imperial Knights in plastic for $60 each, in fucking plastic!!! Once you can 3D print the injection molds GW will be pretty fucked as they are always 10 years to late to react to market changes and only do so when close to critical failure.
You can get a squad for 2/3 of the price, but many times it will not come with extra bits, so it isn't that much of a save. Also, buying just the bits is not cheap. Furthermore, no recaster comes even close to the prices GW offers in it's packs. I would say the things that are overpriced at GW / worth buying at a recaster are the big things (dreadnought and up, unless they are offered in a GW's pack) and heroes (especially primarchs). So, personally, the only thing I bought was a couple of thanatars.
cant comment on the available assortments, that's just silly. but as to the high prices, i can explain that. the molds. those steel molds are stupid expensive to produce. im more into 40k fluff than the minis, but i'm big on transformers. hasbro and takara have to do numerous recolors and retoolings to make the most of a mold.
True, steel molds are really expensive to make, and they have to pay the designers, marketing, and display teams somehow, but it becomes an economy of scale problem. If they reduced the prices of their minis by something like 25% (from $60 to $45) for a box of 5 terminators then I would probably buy straight from GW. As it stands though, I end up buying totally second hand stuff just to save $10 (no extra weapons or bits most of the time) because $12/single model is REALLY expensive, but I could live with $9/model if it is going to support a company I like. That means GW is making $0 off me because the new stuff is just too expensive. I'm sure there are many like me who would jump on that deal, and maybe even start up a second or third army, encouraging more sales. The actual materials for their plastic sets cost so little it's not even worth considering. Companies like Hasbro sell totally finished toys for relatively inexpensive amounts where as GW is literally selling stuff straight off the injector for exorbitant prices. Plus they do not spend nearly as much on marketing as companies like Hasbro, even comparitavely speaking because so much of their sales initiate by word of mouth (friends, youtube channels, etc).
From my recast experience its when you get the mixed plastic-resin parts that can be an issue because of warping. Its great for hordes however, if you wanna get a good chunk of marines and weapon/vehicle upgrades etc.
bootleggers don't need to recast bolt action because you can't copyright ww2 stuff, theres a plethora of companies making ww2 minis which is why you dont see it
i hate to say it but it's a thing that's unique to australia. from a gw perspective, if australia's censorship laws get in the way of things then shit gets very expensive
They got rid of the vraksian militia (chaos renegades) on forgeworld. Now I have to go to black market miniatures and even then, there missing the ogryns and etched brass.
Check wartablegames - they have the renegade ogryns and plague ogryns, as well as a lot of the rest of the range. I don’t think they have the etched brass though.
You didn't even show the cheapest recasters, half the cost again from the website shown. They replace bad parts if you take a photo of it, sends bonus items and runs sales on items for lower cost again. I don't like theft of IP and will admit that I have used blue stuff to mold my own shoulderpads for personal use but god damn I play against armies that cost a tenth of mine and unless I'm told I have never known what is legit or not, they even win painting comps. My regular opponent buys two of everything, his guilleman was 11 USD btw and he chops up the worst one for conversions or scenery if its bad or gets two good items. 2 guillemans for 25 dollars......104 from GW.
pls, can you tell me some sites? i love to create battlegrounds, but its to expensiv to built the wrecks with original bits. To transform some cheap recasts would be perfect, thanks alot!
All I know is that no one gave a F**k about recasters back when you could order nearly any bit or mini individually from GW in a bitz order (even had free delivery to your local GW store). The day they stopped that, they became a whole different company IMO. I'll give you another instance that makes recasters attractive: I'm ONLY a painter, not a player any more. We all know that GW prices the models based on their points value and effectiveness in the game, its not even REMOTELY tied to production costs for a particular kit/mini. Some of these products literally have a 5,000% markup on them. But he tabletop/in-game value means f**k all to me, I just want to paint them. So when they have huge kits the size of the galvanic magnavent that cost the same price as a single 28mm figure, it makes me lose my loyalty about not buying recasts. GW's always been overpriced, but as the problem has scaled up over the 30 years I've been buying from them, it has grown out of control and painfully obvious. Still love the stuff they make, but calling it like I see it.
@@MrX-ok3jq with anycubic or equavalent liquid resin printers you can get equavalent level of detail as GW sculpts... it just takes a long time to print and some skill to tweak exposure settings right
Or you can get them 3d printed. GW is criminal for charging 15 bucks plus shipping for 2 drones for Tau Empire; Forgeworld is also criminal for 65 bucks plus shipping for a single xv9 battlesuit. I played 6th ed, got out in 7th, now I'm back for 8th with a new army, all bought from ebay, used, or recasts... GW shot themselves in the dick. Cause and effect. They have no one to blame but themselves.
If companies are willing to do knock-offs at reasonable prices and Modellers buy them to use on battlefields - Are GW going to try and stop every modeller playing their outlandish priced games?
Just did a currency conversion, $105 AUD = around £57 GBP £57 for a single platic model. Just think about that, it's ridiculous Plus he's £35 in the UK, so £22 more, thats roughly 70% price increase, you aussies are getting fucked more than even i thought. But how GW can justify even £35 for a single plastic model is beyond me. I know he's a big model, so for people who may justify it because of his size, a plastic commissar is £18 in the UK, while 10 Cadians are £20 possibly even £25 now (I remember when 20 cadians were £18, and when they put them in boxes of 10 at first they were £10 or £12, oh and around that time Commissars were metal and £5 or £6, and there was more than 1 model available) You can't justify a mono-pose single platic miniature costing the same as 10 multi-part models. GW seriously needs to sort out their pricing, it's ludicrous, i remember when i got back into 40k (played it from 11-16, then had a break until i was 20) and was told the commissar was £18. i laughed. I said 'are you serious' the staff member looked shocked that i was shocked at me thinking £18 for a single plastic mini was ridiculous, i even said (and at no point of this conversation was i rude, obnoxious or trying to be a dick, i was genuinley shocked) that the lord commissar was a nicer model and on the website for £8 or £10 (oho not £10 anymore laddie) and if the plastic commissar was £10 i would of still probably bought it, as £10 for a single model is expensive, but it's still only a tenner (i remember thinking £8 for a space marine commander was super expensive when i was making my first army, £20 now) but £18 for a mono pose model is way too much, and i wouldn't buy it, even if i thought the model looked really nice and had £100 in my wallet. Staff guy seemed really confused why i didn't want to get it because i thought it was overpriced (he was a pretty young staff member, probably 5+ years younger than me and i'm 25. i have been in this hobby for 15 years though, so i know what i'm talking about when it comes to 40k, and know a decent bit about business as a studied it in college) and that he didn't think it was overpriced at all because he was the same price as most the other charachters. (oh naivety) He didn't even know commissars used to be £5 blister pack models, and the metal commissars weren't even out of date models. I told him i had all 3 of them, and was planning on re-expanding my guard army (which i had sold most of, i kept 3000pts, wanted to get it back to 5k) and wanted a commissar in every unit, and thought the plastic one would be easier for me to convert. I couldn't afford to buy 5 plastic commissars (which would be £90) and ended up getting some non-GW commissar models and 2 of the older 3rd ed commissars. i think my 5 commissars came to around £17, £4 each for the non-GW and the 3rd ed ones were £5 for the pair and a mordian iron guard senior officer, which i used as a extra commissar. So i got 5 commissars for less than 1 plastic one, which speaks volumes. The £4 non-GW commissars were resin and had better and more intracate detail than the plastic one too. Oh i also asked the young staff member how long he'd played 40k and he said 2 years (he definitly wasn't around during the good ol' days of 4th ed, mail order catalouges, blister packs, metal minis, clear paint pots and a actual community of friends in the stores, feel bad for any wargamer who never experienced those times) so he never thought it was unusual that the charachter models were £18, he kinda saw a charachter model as a HQ 'unit' and that most other 'units' like a troops 'unit' or a elites 'unit' all cost around £20, which sounds like speak that is in some GW corporate bible on how to justify the extreme price of a single charachter model which is the price of 5 or 10 other models, but he has a sword and a pistol instead of a rifle so he should cost 10 times as much. Logic. Or that because he takes up a slot on the force organization chart, and so does 10 guardsmen, they should cost the same. Oh and if you think about it a recast of a imperial knight is £20-£25 and that commissar is £18.no wonder people are turning to recasts.
what also doesn't help is GWs lack of QC,, I would love to get eisenhorn for my guard regiment,, because hes a awesome psyker , and i loved the books.. 25 bucks for 1 single 28mm model ., okay okay ,, maybe ,, then a buddy in the club got one "horrible that fine cast shite ,, nothing fits " ... so Im out becuase I dont want recasts but it does make you think because ofcourse with recasts you have to work on them because it's lower quality,,, but appearently so is GWs "premium" model.
GW's move towards mono pose models is a huge turn off on-top of everything else. $77 AUD for 10 monopose cultists that you can't kitbash is simply not competitive. I can get better quality and greater variety from dozens of alternative providers, for a far cheaper price. The fact that I can get miniatures sent to me from a warzone(Ukraine) cheeper than walking into my local GW, is outrageous
Seriously, what is going on with Last Chance to Buy? I caught this on the front page a while ago: i.imgur.com/Lb7tr9z.png But they took it down, and they haven't updated the LCTB section with anything Mechanicus or Knight related. So maybe they decided to leave it and wait a while due to the release of brand new Knights? So like another week or two...? I really don't know. Lucky thing I'm just a Marine guy, so it doesn't affect me this time. I was ready to spend money only on every second friday night just in case they decided to get rid of Contemptors or Deimos tanks or more armour marks or something important. But so far nothing's happened. I know I should be relieved, but I'm just feeling paranoid instead. It seems to be taking longer than usual.
GW should stop making fine cast resin garbage and just do away with overpriced FW garbage. Not paying 300 dollars for deathkorps that could be priced at like 120 dollars if made plastic.
I buy legion specific models on Forgeworld because I want to support my legion. But generic Forgeworld models I get off of 'alternative sources.' Why should I be charged more and punished for not living in the UK?
Hmm. I've visited that subreddit in the past and everyone seems to hush up and becomes an Alpha Legion Legionary. Just a bunch of secrets lol. I understand why they have to, to a degree. They always talk about using the search function to find these emails, but at the same time people talk about the recasters having to change them here and there. So, it becomes a giant chase that might lead no where, which has happened. So, I'm kind of at a loss here. I'll just continue to buy other things then.
+Sephvion use the seller called Peterwork on DHgate, he runs an amazing service. The cheap Epacket shipping is lightning fast, he makes rediculously good casts compared to any others i've tried, and your payment is protected on that site. Dhgate doesn't release your payment to the seller until you confirm you've recieved and are happy with your order. Honestly try him out he's excellent.
+Sephvion Ah no he's always on there just fi d one of the products he's selling and click on his name it'll take you to his shop as it were. I think he tries to operate out of gw's working hours so he might not show up on there in in the day time but check back in the evening. I honestly can't recommend this guy enough he's excellent. Anyway have fun!
Long ranty comment ahead, be warned... :) But i thought this topic deserved my take. (Actually my first of 2 ranty comments, as you may tell i feel strongly about this topic) Only a fool would buy something of lesser quality for 2-3 times the price. The world is full of fools, but i would say adult miniature wargamers for the most part are a pretty intelligent group (it is considered a nerdy hobby, takes skill and pacience to make and paint the models, and it's not something your average dumb radgie does) and a lot of them aren't fools, it's only a matter of time before something like a tactical squad is done as a recast (i mean you can get a plastic imperial knight, which is on sprues and everything for £25) and the recasters charge something like £10 for it. Recasters will probably charge based on cost for them to make it as a starting point, so things like 5 man sternguard squads will probably be cheaper to make than 10 man tac squads, unlike pricing them based on their in-game usefulness (which is ridiculous) I think if GW lowered their prices (especially internationally) less and less people would buy recasts. If recasts cost 75% of a GW product then no-one would buy them, when they are 30% of the OG price, people take interest. Hell i think even at 50% of original cost they would be viable. It's also telling that they are more popular down under than here in the UK, becuase prices are cheapest here (but still sodding ridiculous) but it's a fucking joke what you are charged in Australia, traditional British business standards and practices, to fuck over Australia, and the ozzies not realising they are getting fucked right in their wallets for years. While the British businessmen laugh all the way to the bank. All the while fucking the Englishman less than the rest of the world, but still fucking them nontheless. Based Chinaman has come to save our wallets once again. (And hell, just like everything coming out of China these days, quality controls have definitly sharply increased in the last 10 years or so. Made in China was a mark of quality back in the day (i have my grandad's haversack which he carried his bait to work with him everyday during ww2, he was a draftsman for a shipyard, building light cruisers and frigates during ww2 and ferries and cruise ships after the war, but that's kinda going off topic, that thing is made in China and he bought it in 1937 and i still use it today. It''s a quality, well made bit of kit.) then made in china became synonomous with shit (particularly crap toys) in the same way 'made in india' is associated with low quality clothing, 'made in Germany' is associated with good cars & machinery, 'made in Japan' is associated with good knives and 'made in Sweden' is associated with good tools. But China is slowly shedding it's reputation for producing crap (and as places like ebay have feedback systems, the con-artists get ignored in favour of actual based chinamen, who provide a good service) I order a shit ton of stuff from China, and a lot of people are like 'bah, made in china shit, will fall apart, made of toxic mateirals, chinesium hurrdurr' but they people who actaully belive me that the stuff i'm getting is good (and this is a shit ton of different things) are shocked what i paid for quality things. Yes there is still a lot of crap coming out of china, but if you have half a brain you'll be able to tell when something is shit, or when something is off. Thing is China is making more quality stuff than shit these days, and while some will pass on all of it because of it's bad rep (while still buying stuff from western compaines which outsource their labout to China, hmm... it's like the Chinese made something that is good quality... hmm) some wanting to avoid it because of communism (hell if they were communists like ANTIFA, i wouldn't give them a penny, but China is more like the old soviet communism combined with a free market economy, hell it's more state capitalist than socialist these days, and they are yes authoritarian, but communist only in name) and some passing on it out of brand loyalty (i understand loyalty to small businesses, but a corparation is not loyal to their customers, and only will treat them well if it benefits them, i mean look how much GW has fucked us again and again just to see how much they can fuck us before we just say no and go elsewhere. then try and pretend they cared about us all along. If they cared that much they would bring back the sense of community they had in their stores around 2007-2011 (2007 is when i started gaming in stores, it was probably cool before 2007 too) and lower the prices to what they were like back then, as even then we knew it was expensive for what it was, but it wasn't so ridiculous that we didn't want a alternative to the awesome world of warhammer fantasy (which they killed, fucking great) and 40k because we are priced out of it. Right i got that out of my system, long comment but i think a topic such as this deserves a long explanation (and i didn't go off on a million tangents) I may make a new channel and make some videos of my own perspective on this, need a new name which is more generic, as this channel used to have all my bushcraft videos on it. (hence my username) God bless all you guys.
Just to say that today the 6 of August 2018, ForgeWorld, at least, is entering into the 21th century of shipping ! Yes the just mail US and Canadian customer that our order will take less than 6-8 weeks ... If they reduced it to 2 week door to door they will have an edge other recaster. Actually feedback I have goes the other way recaster are way faster.
It's interesting to have a view of how recasters offer products in a more customer convenient manner. However, I feel you are comparing apples with oranges and making logical errors with your comparisons throughout this piece. That's not to say your arguments are incorrect but it does weaken them in my mind. Several comparisons are made between recast Games Workshop models in resin vs. original plastic in $AUD which isn't like for like. A more persuasive view would be the Forge World recasts vs. originals, from the examples you show that gap is far less and when you consider the overheads GW has much less egregious than on the plastic side. Thus if FW can afford to sell at direct current conversion rates why on earth can't GW? One other point to consider is what you say about the safety of resin as a material to work with. There are risks if you do stupid stuff but it isn't that dangerous. For the sake of argument though let's just say you did get a health condition / injury as result of working on resin models. If you've bought from Forge World and you have a route for legal redress against them as a regulated company listed on the UK stock exchange, I very strongly doubt that's the case with any recaster.
I wonder if the entitlement itself is fueled by want EXCEEDING ability to purchase? I mean there's a want for product and eventually to price increases the 'want' is exceeded by the cost. Disgruntled attitude forms from the want being exceeded by the ability to acquire. Resentment, anger all the while still wanting the product. I can only suggest for those changing 'where' they buy rather than their own accommodations, to not let want exceed ability to acquire.
I do NOT give a crap whether it is me that recasts the miniature, or if i delegate someone else to do it for me for a price. When it comes down to it, recasting is assembling matter in a specific position, if games workshop owns that particular matter then it should have the right to sue me (that would be called theft mind you), BUT if I do it or delegate somebody else to do it for me (i.e Chinese recasters), these recasters own the plastic, they own the miniatures(they bought them from a gw store or off the internet), (also note that the chinese recasters are not bound contractually by gw that they will not copy the miniatures, which also falls apart when the chinese recasters decide to sell the miniature to a 3rd party, the 3rd party is not bound by said contract and therefore can freely do whatever he wants with the gw miniature). So gw SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY SAY in how the recasters assemble the piece of plastic, the property (the plastic in this case) is formed by the labour of the chinese recasters, they will put a price on it and sell it on whatever price they see fit. I as a consumer will choose where to spend my money and if the chinese recaster sells it for less and the quality is acceptable i am not oblidged to buy from gw. Intellectual property is BULLSHIT and immoral in my opinion, I fundamentally disagree with the notion and therefore I feel completely justified in purchasing recasts.
U may not support recasting but me MANY others do u hit the nail on the head with all ur points u presented Gw and FW are solely to blame for this situation they have brought upon themselves solar auxila las rifle section 85$ plus 25$ for shipping for 1 150 point squad so 110$ plus tax for 1 squad why would i pay that when I could go to mr slanty eyes pay 35$ per squad and get double for the price of a single squad I get it’s a expensive hobby but I shouldn’t have to sell a kidney just to fill out my infantry and dedicated transport sections like seriously
mark mclarnon for oop stuff. Not currently available. Hypothetical situation: if FW stopped making models, are the Chinese recasts going to give us new rules, minis, and new lore to continue our game with? Highly doubtful.
Use the seller called Peterwork on DHgate, he runs an amazing service. The cheap Epacket shipping is lightning fast, he makes rediculously good casts compared to any others i've tried, and your payment is protected on that site. Dhgate doesn't release your payment to the seller until you confirm you've recieved and are happy with your order. Honestly try him out he's excellent.
+Giglepie Zon0 its just a site for independant manufacturers. I've ordered a lot from there never had an issue. Though that one particular seller is the tits.
there are a few ways of finding recasters easily but for the most part finding a recaster is like finding a drug dealer. The majority don't have a website or anything and even those that do have disadvantages over emailing them directly, which may i mention they generally don't share their email address. Go to r/yoyhammer if you wanna know more, you can always try searching on ebay or aliexpress for temporary stores
Some interesting comments - RG is $105.00 AU which is $77.64 US - belt postage on that and you are there or thereabouts for the price. Now, I agree - recasts are cheaper - but does the recaster pay for the concept artists, sculpter, Sprue maker, box art, rules developers, wholesale space, retail outlets and retail staff ??, Nope. The re-caster pays for the orginal model, making of the cast and finally the materials (resin) - Might be a 1 or 2 person show to support. I am not a GW fan boy but I work in corporate industry and I can tell you I just scratched the surface of costs for a big organisation - we could add in HR, Payroll, WHS, IT, Learning & Development, electricity etc ect ect. So are the models expensive ? Yes. Think of it like a car - Do you drive a Porche, rolls Royce, Maybe a BMW? - Well guess what, it's a car and it costs 50-100k, do you have to spend that on a car ? Nope, you can buy a Hyundai i30, is it a Porche or BMW, Nope. Will it get you around and be functional ? Yup !! These companies that make "arguably" the top shelf products charge you for them. They don't make you buy them, or make them out of your reach... they just don't make them for everyone. So play Mantic, or other cheaper brands of games that you can afford - OR - go out and earn more money to buy the things you want .. OR .. use pirate products (I don't judge) it's up to you how you want to manage your hobby. Some people go on steam and buy games other go to pirate bay, yet others wait for the games to get "old" and get them cheaper :) ... I don't think you can blame GW for their pricing because you can't afford it. If it really upsets you, vote with your feet and find another game or model collection you can use with the GW rules.. (there are plenty out there)
Except I already covered all of those costs like wags, development etc. in an earlier video, shipping on a cargo container of GW products comes in around the 5-10c per box. The actual cost to get a product onto the shelf never generally seems to exceed in the vicinity of $15!
And the average corporate manager (HR, Payroll, WHS, IT etc is on 100k AU a year, (Up to 400 000 a year with just those departments) plus the teams which average out at 60K AU a year. I looked up some wages for GW on a UK employment site and they pay around average wages - Graphic designers (how many would they have I wonder) are about 50K AU a year, Illustrators around 45k AU a year, Production Manager is 73k AU a year and that's probably the tip of the iceberg, then lets add in store rent, electricity (which we all know is insanely high these days), and all the other day to day running costs of all those stores. Now back to the resin cast guy - 1 or 2 people - the cost of the product (to make a mould) the cost of the materials and wallah - a miniature - if anything I would say that the pirate makers are gouging more from the production cost that GW !! I understand the high pricing is Frustrating .. it is to me too, but a business exists to make money, if it doesn't it folds. To cut corners and not use graphic artists etc means an inferior product or less product being produced. Having worked for national and international companies I can tell you they are beasts of things that take strict budgeting and pricing to remain in the black. GW simply could not continue to produce models and games at the rate and quality it does without charging higher prices.
Just a little history on me - I started out in the world of Battletech, then discovered Rogue Trader and Warhammer FB. I played for many years and then grew tired of the "retired miniature syndrome" that came with GW - I saw things go from bad to worse which saddened me because I love the worlds they had created. Then came the end times - I had been out of the games for years (playing Warmachine, Stargrunt and any other game I could try out - then I finally just lost interest) - So what bought me back to the hobby - Mantic. Well priced figures .. cool games and support - eerrr not so much - I got boxes of figures and they were not of the quality I was seeing in other games - but I persevered. Meanwhile I was seeing this "age of sigmar" and thinking .. rank and flank is a bit stale. BUT .. GW hadn't convinced me - They were still the evil model destroying new shinny all killing model syndrome creating organisation who I parted ways with many years ago. Then... something changed ... side games ... (blood bowl and the like) - cross purpose miniatures and some pretty cool new fluff... I looked a little deeper and saw that they had changed many of their operating principals. With the release of the new AoS and the fact they havent made old figures redundant etc. I warmed to the idea and when I looked at the prices I cringed .. then .. I bought a small (50 dollar starter set) and put it next the other models I had from other companies (and some old GW) ... Sorry to disagree but these models left the old stuff and their competitors for dead ... They are bigger, finer detailed and have clever things I have not seen from other brands (like necklaces that float out from the model etc.) I think you will find what drives Last chance to buy etc. Is sales... I am just guessing, but I am willing to bet .. as the sales drop to a slow drip and warehouse space becomes an issue .. they discontinue production to the point they reach a certain limited number of stock and then hit it with last chance to buy. What they are doing is what all successful businesses do ... cater to the masses. because that's where the money is. I think it's got to be a case that you either buy accepting their prices and business structure, go for pirate sculpts (or a cheaper alternative brand - after all the rules are free) or step away from the GW universe and look elsewhere, after all this is voluntary and it's just a tabletop game for fun - not t life changing stuff :)
13:20 I agree that gw has itself to blame for recasts but this is a fucking weak ass shit example. Why recast a historical model that can't be copyrighted?
Oh, I wonder why gw gets the most recasts....... I mean, they are the biggest, and I mean in every terms, company out there for miniatures gaming. The rest don't come close to it. So, obviously people are going to recast it. Naaaaah, it must be their business practices.
KuK137 but it’s not highway robbery how Gw jacks up the prices or how Fw removes shit with no reason given yea keep sucking Gw maybe they will care at some point
Meh, I just 3d printed entire Proteus Land Raider and planning a Spartan soon. Folks already are making Warhounds and even Warlord titans in 28mm scale.
lol, it's you two who don't understand logic. Why is FW and GW so expensive? It's to create desire. If they sold them cheap then the value of the product would drop, people would spend less time painting, quality would drop and GW would go from high end to kinder surprise collapsing there stock. I'll explaine with an example, if you brought a knock off for $2 and you messed it up... Who cares but if you messed up a $20 kit "oh no"! Just because you two don't understand GWs business practices doesn't make them shady and a UA-cam content creator creating content is to be expected hence why I accused him of promoting recasts for self gaining means. It's you two who don't understand logic but rather just look at the surface not understanding the details.
T B Prices being lower would make a ton more sense, they do most of there kits in plastic for GW and a lot more people would get into the hobby if prices were lower If I could spend way 10$ or 12.50$ on a tactical squad there would be no need for recasting And I personally would own a lot more stuff that I currently do now I would build tons of extra armies because I could justify spending more because I would get more for the same amount of cash
Why are you always talking about recasts? You are hurting GW to create content. You know as well as I do GW won't change so your just hurting them to create content!
White knight spotted! I buy GW and the occasional FW products(Primarchs etc.) but upgrade sprues/weapons and DKoK all recasts. Especially for 30K, need like 20 to 35 marines in my list and want to customise them. Not paying 15£ for 5x shoulders, helmets or chests
As always, it's not about being for or against recasts, it's about why is there one company which seems to draw all the recasts, and just so happens to be the company who has the most 'interesting' business practices? The thing is, the recast beast is a consequence of their actions, not just some entity that appeared magically from the air one day.
so which recaster was the example from? asking for a friend.........
Brayden Aitkenhead My friend also needs this information
Yeah I have a friend that needs it too
I also have a friend...
Hey macca, apparently the next last chance to buy is going to be knight heads, and ad mech units, they had a banner up but they quickly took it down, Just a heads up for anyone.
Without recast, I would never have been able to afford 30k.
Kharmazov My friends got a 3D printer, you just saved me a lot. Thanks
What is a good recast?
Member when you were able to buy individual bitz on GW online store? Yeah, I member
Me too
Really miss my chaos vehicle upgrades.
I used to work for GW.. that discount was great. But leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when you realise just how much you're being ripped off.

@Vlad Petr. found one yet?
They can suck it.
completely agree, my deathkorps units are all recasts because they're disgustingly overpriced on fw
What website do you use?
joel davison I was using eBay mostly. I have gotten Russian and Chinese recasts. Quality was about the same. Shipping takes about a month mainly because of US customs and where they are coming from.
Considering how often they've done that with other factions even prior to the rise of China, should be concerning.
damageinc04 Right on, dude!
I’ve had one recast that was actual trash you almost couldn’t put it together but I didn’t say anything then the guy who had the connections with the recast said they’re usually not that bad and gave me a free replacement Wich was in perfect condition
So the forgeworld experience then
Imperial knight lancer on FW=€240
Imperial knight lancer recast from somewhere=€65
Well.... i'd take the chance
My recast experience has been that small detail comes really well but large smooth spaces need a lot of work.
I've followed your comments about the price gouging for Aussies for a while now (always thought it was duties etc but have had my eyes opened). Have you ever discussed whether a lowering of prices might encourage more purchases so they would make less profit per item but have many more sales bringing in more profit overall (or would it?)
I never understood why you guys in Australia get hammered by GW prices. I bet some GW executive got beaten up by an Aussie long ago.
@@ironbomb6753 well whoever made the decision, they are a bloody c**t for it.
Is that website still around? Canada's markups are almost as bad as Australia

@Oren BTWave erm, any other site i should avoid? tks
What's wrong with Fw? No last chance to buy this week...
a sentence nobody should ever say.
I know, I'm very salty about the last chance to buy situation, too.
So I'm wondering why now they stopped. They have had them now for every 2 weeks.
Next week. I was awake this morning looking for them, and they accidentally put up the picture for next week's Last Chance items for about 5 minutes. All of the imperial knight extra heads and more transfers and even Thallax are going away
It's also the last week of fiscal Q2 for GW/FW (and most corporations). Some companies keep things quieter around then for any number of reasons.
KCDarkRanger its not illegal to recast for yourself.
Very Intelligent statement
@@calastyphon2510 to add more, no one will know its a recast if you don't say it is, are people going to demand to see the receipt assuming it was bought every single time it gets brought out for play/display?
6:43 $100USD dollars for a start collecting set! WOAH I didn’t know it was this bad
Best price for a starter box to catch newcomers I guess.
I was turned off by it, when I saw the price in a store and never bothered it again ^^
Here is a link for a good read: gbcinternetenforcement.net/files/caseNo-19-cv-3821/TRO-ORDER.PDF
It would be a great material if you can do a video on this!
This is the reason i 3dprint all my vehicles in 40k.

Scoria will be August at a guess. I have looked at some 30k sculpts I love in the past, a bunch of them actually.
Awesome! Thanks a ton man. I'll check em out asap. And if Scoria is released in August I'll be in heaven. (Also really excited to see that new "Acastus" Knight with the C-Beams).

Not going to buy anything, but what is the name of the recast website?
GW indicates their prices on the populatity of the models and the point costs in their games. If you want to have a compedetive gamelist you need to by certain models. These models are the expensive ones without being expensive to make. A re-cast company doesn't care about this game issue. They infest in a mini, calculate the expence to cast it and take a percentage / marge profit. That makes up the huge price difference.
What is the website?
no idea but a chap called peterwork on tge site dhgate is a fantastic recaster, I'm spreading the word because his products and services are a diamond in the rough in this trade. Give him a go.
What recasters do y'all recommend?
What’s this website?
Not sure about this site but i've bought a lot of different rexasts and the seller called Peterwork on DHgate is simply fantastic. Give him a try.
Is that 16... or 60% price increase for Oz?
matt black 60%
So who's the best for recasts?
Nice try GW.
7 is the sacred number of nurgel
Outercircle analogy : "games workshop is like a giraffe that's eating ice cream. It doesn't go fast as blu ray."
cant comment on the available assortments, that's just silly. but as to the high prices, i can explain that. the molds. those steel molds are stupid expensive to produce.
im more into 40k fluff than the minis, but i'm big on transformers. hasbro and takara have to do numerous recolors and retoolings to make the most of a mold.
Plus they do not spend nearly as much on marketing as companies like Hasbro, even comparitavely speaking because so much of their sales initiate by word of mouth (friends, youtube channels, etc).
pls tell me website
From my recast experience its when you get the mixed plastic-resin parts that can be an issue because of warping. Its great for hordes however, if you wanna get a good chunk of marines and weapon/vehicle upgrades etc.
that calth contemptor is actually really easy (even for a noob like me) to chop up the weapons.
Hey macca, I agree. They've done it to themselves. What recaster is that? Pm me if you can pretty please. Merry Christmas.
bootleggers don't need to recast bolt action because you can't copyright ww2 stuff, theres a plethora of companies making ww2 minis which is why you dont see it
You also don't see Konflikt 47 recasts, because they are fairly priced and good quality.
i hate to say it but it's a thing that's unique to australia. from a gw perspective, if australia's censorship laws get in the way of things then shit gets very expensive
Calas Typhon thanks for the info, I’ll check them out.
To transform some cheap recasts would be perfect, thanks alot!
what are the good recasters tho?
I love recasting my Mordheim architecture lol, the originals are all still on sprue haha
You wouldn't download a Warhammer model.
Well actually ... with 3d printing (ok, not quite the same)
@@MrX-ok3jq with anycubic or equavalent liquid resin printers you can get equavalent level of detail as GW sculpts... it just takes a long time to print and some skill to tweak exposure settings right
Anyone have any experience with Z?
He's great! all products are near flawless, great customer service!
My problem is with Forge World. I have no problem getting recasts of their stuff, if not there’s always the rare bits sites.
Damn my dwarfs are all 80s
Just did a currency conversion, $105 AUD = around £57 GBP
£57 for a single platic model. Just think about that, it's ridiculous
Plus he's £35 in the UK, so £22 more, thats roughly 70% price increase, you aussies are getting fucked more than even i thought.
(oh naivety)
He didn't even know commissars used to be £5 blister pack models, and the metal commissars weren't even out of date models.
Schyzofrenic87 Eisenhorn isn’t finecast. It’s a plastic model.
I caught this on the front page a while ago:
i.imgur.com/Lb7tr9z.png
But they took it down, and they haven't updated the LCTB section with anything Mechanicus or Knight related.
It seems to be taking longer than usual.
heck i see the plastic contemptor dread on ebay for not even 50 aud
They later increased guillimans price
GW should stop making fine cast resin garbage and just do away with overpriced FW garbage. Not paying 300 dollars for deathkorps that could be priced at like 120 dollars if made plastic.
Do recasters operate on the deep web at all?
I buy legion specific models on Forgeworld because I want to support my legion. But generic Forgeworld models I get off of 'alternative sources.' Why should I be charged more and punished for not living in the UK?
Why don't people want to throw their money away?
So uh... Want to tell us what site that is? Lol.
Sephvion It's kind of an unspoken rule that you don't openly link recast sites. Find the yoyhammer Reddit, that should help.
+Guy Watkins
Are they one of those sellers that only put up products in short span timeframes? I'll look into it, thanks.
(Actually my first of 2 ranty comments, as you may tell i feel strongly about this topic)
Only a fool would buy something of lesser quality for 2-3 times the price. Recasters will probably charge based on cost for them to make it as a starting point, so things like 5 man sternguard squads will probably be cheaper to make than 10 man tac squads, unlike pricing them based on their in-game usefulness (which is ridiculous)
I think if GW lowered their prices (especially internationally) less and less people would buy recasts.
Recast all the way!!!
If you've bought from Forge World and you have a route for legal redress against them as a regulated company listed on the UK stock exchange, I very strongly doubt that's the case with any recaster.
leakycheese especially the Chinese
I bought a recast Spartan and it literally made me sick just working on it. Yuck never again! Cheap epoxy resin
Derrick Luderus Absolutely, there is no chance of recourse there at all.
I can only suggest for those changing 'where' they buy rather than their own accommodations, to not let want exceed ability to acquire.
numbSKULLery They are ABSOLUTELY more detailed than the kits from the old days. I don't see how that's even a question.
Recast are a good thing
mark mclarnon for oop stuff. Not currently available. Hypothetical situation: if FW stopped making models, are the Chinese recasts going to give us new rules, minis, and new lore to continue our game with? Highly doubtful.
Jsh Pk what's Stopping people from writing their own rules?
Count the Seven!
What recasted sites do you use. Please tell me I want some. Especially the one on the screen. Maybe send me links personal on my email.
I just tried it. It didn’t work, the site looks like wayfarer.
+Giglepie Zon0 its just a site for independant manufacturers. I've ordered a lot from there never had an issue. Though that one particular seller is the tits.
+Giglepie Zon0 also he usually only operates his store in the evenings just a heads up incase you couldn't find him.
there are a few ways of finding recasters easily but for the most part finding a recaster is like finding a drug dealer. The majority don't have a website or anything and even those that do have disadvantages over emailing them directly, which may i mention they generally don't share their email address.
Go to r/yoyhammer if you wanna know more, you can always try searching on ebay or aliexpress for temporary stores
I love reacasters for all the boxed games that are going to be OOP forever.
Their quality is lower now than it was 5 years ago. Other businesses in the same field can do it far cheaper, but not GW?
I like the saltiness of your videos because I feel the same way. I still can't forgive them for killing WHFB!!!!
People need a hobby and a company wants money and cuts corners. So why cant the hobbyists (cut corners)?
You "WA WA WA, why is forgeworld pulling products.... Hey guys here is a recast site with great prices! "
Oh, I wonder why gw gets the most recasts.......
I mean, they are the biggest, and I mean in every terms, company out there for miniatures gaming. The rest don't come close to it. So, obviously people are going to recast it.
Naaaaah, it must be their business practices.
Because recasters provide better product/service for a fraction of the price, basic capitalism really.
KuK137 wow, I was going to buy recasted miniatures but now your insults opened my eyes...
I'm *definitely* buying recasts!
Why don't you just set up UA-cam ads on your videos showing recasts cause you clearly like to promote it for content.
T B stfu he’s just trying to make a point about the shady buisness that GW/FW run
Austin Rouse 🙄 sadly logic doesn’t work all the time
lol, it's you two who don't understand logic.
T B Prices being lower would make a ton more sense, they do most of there kits in plastic for GW and a lot more people would get into the hobby if prices were lower
If I could spend way 10$ or 12.50$ on a tactical squad there would be no need for recasting
And I personally would own a lot more stuff that I currently do now
I would build tons of extra armies because I could justify spending more because I would get more for the same amount of cash
Connor Jessen how right you are!
Why are you always talking about recasts? You are hurting GW to create content. You know as well as I do GW won't change so your just hurting them to create content!
Its not about hurting GW its about getting people to realize that GW are fucking you
No it's about creating content, we all already know GW screws us.
If gw won't change, they will die - basic business
Meowing Cat and then no more 30k, 40k or anything. Thieves aren't going to keep it going. Have fun!
