Eren asking Ymir to choose for herself was the first time in Ymir’s whole life someone lets her choose and helps her instead of commanding her.
In a sense, that was ymir helping herself.
When the founding titan split through her children and grand children, Ymir was split. And the attack titan is Ymir’s rebellious counterpart who never obeys the fritz bloodline. That is the reason nobody can control it.
Eren is, in a sense, the incarnation of Ymir’s little splint of wanting freedom.

I love the parallels between old Ymir and our Ymir as well. Like how both of them were blamed by the group of zealots who raised them and then they both sacrificed themselves to help the others, only for them both to get fucked over anyways. At least our Ymir got to reclaim her life and go out completely on her own terms. Those three characters have so many cool comparisons.

When Ymir sacrificed herself for King Fritz, i think she expected something out of him (love?), but that bastard still considered her his slave, so she chose death (instead of regenerating) to be free. But the power of that parasite made her stuck in the path world, she is enslaved even after death, she couldn't even properly die.
Considering an instant in real life may equal years in the path world, i can't imagine a little girl spent 2000 real life years (probably equals eternity in the path world) just sculpting titans everytime someone transforms, healing every Eldian who got hurt.
Now we know why some titans look disproportionate and ridiculous, may be this poor girl was just tired.

Ep. 01 "To You, in 2000 Years."'
Ep. 80 "From You, 2,000 Years Ago."
This episode, as well as the manga, is peak fiction and peak Eren. His resolve to reach Ymir and break the cycle of 2,000 years, is absolutely mind-blowing. Yuki Kaji - Eren's VA - did such an incredible job, to the point he almost lost his voice while recording this episode. Eren's search for freedom since he was born, in contrast to Ymir being slaved her whole life, and even after that. The fact that Eren finally got the power that he was seeking after everything he sacrificed to get there. Meanwhile, we can think back to the scene when they first see the ocean and Eren says "Those enemies on the other side of here...if we kill them all, does that mean we'll be free?" A reminder that moment was right after Eren saw the future after kissing Historia's hand. And of course, the iconic moment when he says to Reiner "I just keep moving forward...until my enemies are destroyed." Remembering all this together during this episode makes it even more satisfying and epic. Finally, the soundtrack was perfect for this moment. Here's the link btw: ua-cam.com/video/GJl_fn_skOM/v-deo.html

That centipede looking creature actually have a resemblance with 2 things:
    1. In scientific manner it resemble to a Cambrian lifeform called Hallucigenia, which lived 500 million years ago (during Cambrian Period). It was discovered in Burgese Shale, British Columbia. The thing is, it is known as "Origin of Life" mainly because of its vast biodiversity fossilized in it or almost all lifeforms on Earth is come from it. So to be clear, Ymir came into contact with 'something 'which they refer as God which also means 'Origin of life' represented by the Hallucigenia.
    2. It is also a reference to Norse Mythology, mainly "Nidhogg" who dwell beneath the world-tree Yggdrasil and eat its roots. This is highly injurious to the tree, which holds the Nine Worlds of the cosmos.

    • @thirdlopena1041

So basically Attack Titan is probably the little will of Ymir to go against King Fritz. Since the goal of Attack Titan is to seek freedom, maybe it has something to do with her (Ymir) gives Eren a will to free her from the King's self-righteousness. "You've been waiting for someone, for 2000 years."

He made his children eat their mother even though he didnt know how titan powers work. That's how desperate he was.

I think people forget that the Fritz bloodline that ymir serves for 2000 years is also her direct bloodline, making all people of royal blood her direct relatives. She wasn’t just serving the first king, she was serving her own family as a slave. May explain her willingness to serve, especially with what fredia says in the beginning about her being a kind person and wanting to be loved and liked above all. Also the parallels between ymir and historia about wanted to be liked and dying a meaningful death, since they believed it would have been better if they werent born, are staggering. Not to mention how that type of thinking is the antithesis of erens world view and he’s the one to break ymir out of it and make her realize she has a choice. Ahhhhhh this show man!

Exactly, and Eren words and him HUGGING her are the first act of kindness she felt in 2000 years of slavery. That's all she wished for, to be considered as a normal person, and that gave her the strenght to finally rebel against the royal blood (Zeke trying to let her obey again).

    • @suetavakoli
      @suetavakoli 2 роки тому +2

I had the same thought about her bloodline, not necessarily the royal blood especially if the king had other women too. Like she forgot that they're her children as well and they're inheriting the power from her not their royal father!
Notice the tree when it first appeared with only 3 branches when her daughters ate her, and over the years it became what now they call the path.

Well he could just be speaking from technicality, since even though in the current time all Subjects of Ymir are considered Eldians, originally "Eldians" were a tribe without anything to do with Ymir. So if there were Eldians who never copulated with Ymir's bloodline then there could technically be "Eldians" out there who aren't subjects, and can't hear Eren. But that depends on the extent of the eugenics.

I keep coming back every week and saying the same thing over and over but god damn this episode did not dissapoint. The scene all of us manga readers had been waiting on, finally! Who would of thought there would be another character with the most tragic backstory ever again :D Nah but seriously tho if you think about it it's so fcked up that when the titans turn into titan shifters they need to eat the titan shifter in human form, after this episode it makes a lot of sense considering Ymir's children literally ate their own mother in human form. Seing Ymir actually being able to make a choice of her own and not being told she is a slave in over 2000 years by none other than Eren was so beautiful to see. She made the exact same face Eren did when she realized she was "free." You could think about it like Eren being Ymir's "freedom" that she had been searching for and waited for 2000 years to finally hear.
Hearing the OST from "Hero" come back during Ymir's backstory was so perfect. Such an amazing OST, i had chills throughout the entire episode.
Remember what Kenny said in season 3? "Everyone is a slave to something". We clearly see here even Eren is a slave to something, freedom. He is so obsessed with achieving freedom he is literally willing to kill the entire world to just achieve it for him and his friends. I also noticed in this episode they skipped almost all of chapter 123 if im not mistaken. Seems it will be coming back in a later episode. And Iseyama naming the first episode of the show "To you 2000 years in the future" then this episode "From you, 2000 years ago". I say this every week again but Iseyama has really written one of the most well done stories of all of our time. It's hard to believe one man created this entire show. There are no plotholes in aot and everything comes full circle. A modern masterpiece which will go down in history.

The parallels between the original Ymir and "our" Ymir + Historia are insane. Ymir, in a sense, just wanted to be free after a life and afterlife as a slave--and Eren was the key to help her exert our own free will for the first time. What a tragic backstory. This episode was so short yet crazy intense.
I'm still curious as to the nature of that entity that came in contact with Ymir. I have so many questions.

For Ss4 part 1 you guys usually gave about 40 mins discussion for big episodes like Declaration of War, Warhammer Titan... even other smaller episodes too. These last two episodes were top-notch content and they definitely deserve a longer discussion than just 15 mins talking, and I'm sure most of the viewers will love to see your thoughts on different aspects of the show too. Isayama-sensei initially brought his work on "The Attack on Titan" to Shueisha. (This is the publisher of Dragon Ball and Naruto.)
Shueisha refused because the content of the work was not suitable for boys and the drawings were not good.
After that, Isayama brought his work to Kodansha, and as a result, Shingeki no Kyojin became a big hit.
Shueisha reflected on the situation and switched to a policy of serializing works if the content was good even if the drawings were poor.
As a result, Demon slayer was serialized.
What I'm trying to say is, everyone, please buy and watch manga and anime through legitimate means😙
If the publisher goes out of business, there will never be a second or third Shingeki no Kyojin.
